Dad's Half Dozen
Kristen K.

I was so happy with my visit to Duck Donuts. I was originally going to just create my own half dozen but there are SO many kinds of donuts to choose from, I just got the Dad's half dozen which is a special until 6/16. The donuts are made to order meaning they are topped to order. Also served warm which is a good and bad thing. It makes the toppings gooey which is delicious but also makes it messier.

Duck Donuts provides all around fun and good vibes!! I'll come into a Duck'Do every 4 months or so and snag the one I enjoy with coffee: chocolate with sprinkled peanuts. Did just that 2 weeks ago after I had a gag-acious blown-out experience at 'bella napoli' (thrown in trash) where clueless bimbos apparently and with evidence to prove it smear Walmart can filling on old wet pizza dough, and call it 'cannoli'. Arrivederci. So I came to colorful Duck'Do (which I first tried in VA) where (with all the bakery smells, crunching, folding) I felt right at home. It's simple. The cruller or donut I buy is gone before the box makes it to our kitchen. The boxes are the most whimsical in the business by the way. Don't ever change my duck. Keep it legit - true! Duck'Do in Latham even had a gigantic blown-up yellow duck on a van in front of the franchise that day; wish I could have snapped it, because well - a huge duck floatin' around in Latham will get you sales for sure! All the staff, from youngsters, cashiers to donut dippers and management are the best. Friendly and well trained locals. Nice easy-going, happy vibes inside. Some wood tables to sit at or stand and chat. Come watch the bakers shuttle circle rounds of fresh dough around the shop! Always loved it. Will be back for a few more soon. Review: 5+

I dont often give out 5 stars, but Duck Donuts is up there for me. I discovered Duck Donuts in Tennessee and thought they were a Southern thing, but during a quick vacation to Albany we took a few months ago we were all sitting around the hotel pool (getting slightly buzzed and craving sweets) I mentioned to my SIL about this place I found in Tennessee Duck Donuts and how you can customize everything, so I jumped on Yelp to see and show her the site ONLY TO FIND OUT THERE WAS ONE DOWN THE STREET!!! We legit jumped out the pool, got dressed and headed right out (dont worry It was safe to drive - no one was drunk, LOL) But Omg... Options are endless, and everytime we come to this location, Dave I think his name is - is telling jokes, and cracking everyone up - seems like a truly fun place to work (go check out their TikTok Page - blindfolded Donut making should be a thing everywhere) The Chocolate coconut is my fave, but there are soo many options, they come out hot & fresh and are decorated RIGHT THERE... Im drooling just writing this review. Go, try them, get a dozen!! You wont be sorry!

Professor Java's Coffee Sanctuary - Take Out! My Professor Java's order: 2 bags of sweets

Somehow, I managed to beat the rush. I sat down to drink my latte and people-watch. It's been several years since I visited Professor Java's. It's still on Wolf Rd but it moved into the Shopper's Park. It's still extremely dark despite many overhead hanging lights with low wattage incandescent bulbs. A bit depressing. Suited for people who don't like sunlight. I had been shopping on Wolf Rd. I hadn't had my morning cup of coffee yet. I wanted to get a great latte, then sit and savor it a bit. I did not want to be at a major chain though I generally don't have many objections to them. I would have liked soy milk in my latte but they didn't carry it. So I settled for almond milk. The latte was strong, dark and foamy. The wait was minimal after placing my order. I expected to pay a premium for this experience. My medium latte was 16 oz and cost $6 before adding tip, which put it over $7. It's a bit more than some businesses charge though in LA I've paid $10. I know coffee. I've had better lattes but this one was a good solid medium latte. Not bitter. Plus, no one was rushing me to get out. There was plenty of seating. The staff is very nice and chill. So I enjoyed my alone time of latte and contemplation. There were cheesy Christmas songs playing. The place has an excellent sound system so there was no tuning this stuff out. Breakfast is served all day. Maybe I could do breakfast here someday if I'm in another reflective mood. I wish someone would turn up the lights just a bit but that's part of Professor Java's "MO," so customers have to decide whether to take it or leave it.

For sanitary reasons, I do not recommend this place. The man making my drinks repeatedly put his…read moreungloved hands through his hair (he did have very nice thick hair) and the woman making the food was obviously ill (her voice was hoarse) though she was wearing gloves. The sitting space if I'm being honest is kind of tight with chairs backed up against the display divider for the line/counter ordering area. The benches up against the wall opposite counter are beautiful and force good posture. There were also some window spots I'd definitely aim for next time. The counter person was delightful no complaints. Explained the drinks and didn't rush us. We came later morning on Saturday, most of the bakery items were sold out. But what we got was amazing, a nice mixture of scones, perfection. I appreciated the mixture of small morsels, it included flavors that I would not have tried otherwise. I got a cream brûlée latte as suggested classic with a hint of sweetness, standard with double shot of espresso. My wife got a mocha variety definitely much richer. The art on top was also a nice highlight. As other reviews mentioned prices were not listed but this is definitely a specialty place so expect a higher price than a pump your own coffee express station. But also I rather give my money to a local place than a huge mass marketed place thats serving half the quality.

These days, I'm making a habit of going to Forts Ferry Farms' pop up markets…read more I was introduced to a new-to-me herb, cilantro-like, from Peru. It is even more punchy than cilantro. I don't remember the name of it. Use sparingly. Heirloom tomatoes - I bought a flat of them so I made gazpacho and a fresh tomato sauce (using Marcella Hazan's recipe). I also ate some raw - still warm with a little salt. Tomatoes define the taste of summer. Peaches - this is the first year FFF is offering their own peaches. I don't know what kind of peach it is. It is smaller, the flesh more delicate with a more pronounced flavor. The memoir, Epitaph for a Peach, by David Mas Matsumoto, came to mind when I tasted it. This peach wasn't grown to be hearty and built to withstand the rigors of transport, it was grown to be flavorful; to be eaten and savored. I'm so glad FFF is here to remind us how produce should taste. I'd almost forgotten.

I knew nothing about this place when my wife suggested for a surprise lunch on a Saturday…read moreafternoon, and we had to rush over as they have limited hours. It was cold and raining outside and I was happy to get out of it and relax. Sadly, I quickly found out her surprise involved eating outside under a tent in the cold and rain on a November day. Sigh. At least they had blankets on the benches. We ordered in the far tent and the menu board was both helpful (it listed everything in each entree, including onions) and annoying (it indicated no substitutions were allowed, including onions). Not to be deterred, I picked the pepperoni pizza with hot honey, basil and Calabrian chili peppers. My wife ordered the Margherita pizza. Both were ready in about 15 minutes, but upon delivery to our table it became clear that a couple of things were off. First, my wife's pizza was cold and mine was pipping hot. Second, mine had so much basil- which in places was left in 2-3 leaf bunches- that perhaps they just cleaned out the pantry for the last order of the day. The crust in spots were burned, but I could live with that. However, it was so floppy that it couldn't be picked up under any condition. Everything but the outer inch of crust was like a thin wet tortilla. And their plastic cutlery wasn't up to the challenge, ripping the pizza toppings off and turning my pizza into a casserole. That being said, the flavors were wonderful on my pizza. The hot honey made for a really tasty flavor balance, and the copious amounts of curling pepperoni were a nice change of pace from the cheap stuff. The peppers were good too, and I wish I could source some locally. My wife's pizza was okay, though the whole mozzarella clumps reminded of dollops of Ricotta and they were very cold as if they were added after baking. Odd. I don't mind paying for expensive pizza if it is good. I am also not a pizza snob and will gladly eat subpar pizza. But, to overpay ($26 for mine alone) for pizza that is just a mess in a cardboard box rubs me the wrong way. The same goes for buying ($24) a cold pizza. The dessert we ordered was a Paris-Brest, and being a choux fan I absolutely loved it. Delicious with hints of coffee, almonds, nuts, and some flavorings I couldn't place, I would quickly come back here just for that. As for their pizza, I just don't know. On a nice pleasant day it would be fun, but too many mistakes on our pizzas makes me leery of ordering them again for those prices.
