There's so many of these gourmet donut places, but wow this one is def the best out of all the ones I've tried. All donuts are freshly baked to order and they add the toppings on in front of you! This place is AWESOME!!! The staff is super friendly and patient and helpful. You'd think they would get restless w guests having no idea what they want and holding up lines and asking a million questions (don't judge me!) haha but they all were amazing. I knew they were smiling under those masks. I've been to a lot of overhyped "premium" donut shops across this country. But none have lived up to their hype...until Duck Donuts. I was quite pumped to hear that a Duck was opening here in Albany but, like certain donut shops in Buffalo that I have found subpar, I had a fear that they wouldn't be as good as advertised. That didn't deter me from standing in line for half an hour on a chilly Tuesday morning to see what Duck Donuts is all about. Duck Donuts is a unique chain in the donut world. Donuts are fried to order and decorated in front of you. You can choose from several dozen preset combinations or make your own from the assortment of toppings. For my first visit, I stuck with presets. Many of these have fun names, like "Bacon in the Sun" and "The Boardwalk". 10 or so minutes after I placed my order. I was walking out of the store with piping-hot donuts. It was hard to resist digging in until I got home, but I knew that would be for the best. Once home, the fun began. At the time of writing, I have only eaten half of my donuts, but all are excellent. The base is light and airy, while the topping combinations work surprisingly well together. Not that I doubted that maple, caramel, and bacon would work well together, of course. Duck Donuts may be a tad pricey to turn into a weekly occurrence. But as an infrequent treat? Sign me up. I will never turn down a chance to eat more of those donuts. read more

This place was insanely delicious - by far the best place we've eaten at while we were traveling in Albany. If you don't make at least one trip here when you're in the area, you are truly missing out. Duck Donuts makes donuts the way they're supposed to be made - hot, fresh, and perfectly fluffy and cakey. I cannot stress how much of a difference it makes when a donut is warm and fresh versus when it's been sitting on a counter for a few hours and has gotten cold. It really says something about an establishment when they're willing to take the extra time and effort to make donuts to order. As for the flavors, there are dozens and dozens to choose from, and you honestly can't go wrong with any of them. We ordered the French Toast, Blueberry Pancake, Fluffernutter, and Blueberry with Oreo Crumbles and Rasperry Drizzle - they were all perfect. I am coming back again tomorrow. read more

I did study the menu and tried to place the order in advance but they said on the recording they couldn't take the order. Anyway, just a tip for DDonuts. I would use wax paper. They actually stuck to the box. At lease if they were hot and on wax paper, it wouldn't stick. I gott say I wasn't impressed at all. More like a donut cake with heavy flavored topping. The oh my god too sweet blueberry reminded me of the blueberry syrup from ihop. The tropical chocolate donut I actually threw out. I just couldn't. The kids said, they thought they were just ok but no one finished them. Been there, tried them, and that's were it will end for me. Just didn't find what they were QUACKED UP TO BE ! read more

Tried out this place out of pressure from others and picked up a half dozen donuts. Staff were pleasant and nice, but the price is the real kicker here. I personally feel the quality of the donut is good, but the customization you can make to them with glazes and toppings doesn't match how much you are paying for it. Enjoyed watching the entire process of making the donuts. Especially the last part - eating the goodness.

I brought a couple dozen of these donuts to a party and they went quick. The donuts are made on site based on what you ask them to do. Generally, there are limits to the customization. They remind me a little of cold stone creamery in that you can go in and there are some pre designed items you can ask for. Unlike Cold Stone though, you aren't able, to my knowledge, to then customize the donut order further. Menus are a little tricky. I recommend looking online ahead of time. What they offer is handouts that show you donut options as well as boxes of dozens with preconfigured thematic arrangements. You can of course order on site but you may have a moment of panic as you try to order everything as you arrive at the register and try to make sense of what the orderings are. You can watch them make your donuts in real time which is fun and they are friendly while doing it. There is a slight but not overly long wait for them to make the donuts and it is worth it because they are warm and fresh. I plan on trying their other offerings like milk shakes and then deciding if I want to buy some merch and bump the star rating. These were definitely a hit at the party though. If you are looking for a fun, slightly different but not too different snack to bring to a gathering, go to Duck Donuts and get a dozen or so. A doze runs approximately $25 as of the time of this review which IS pricey. read more

Wow, we understand the hype now! We were on the fence if we should order 6 or 12 for the two of us. Good thing we ordered 12! We ordered online and saw our box on the shelf once you walk in. Super convenient. We quickly learned that the cinnamon and sugar donuts were the way to go. My favorite was the cinnamon sugar and maple drizzle. Second was the maple icing, rainbow sprinkles and vanilla drizzle. Can't go wrong with a glazed, vanilla icing and vanilla drizzle or a strawberry frosted with rainbow sprinkles. Oreo, powdered sugar and chocolate drizzle didn't disappoint either. Honestly, they're all great the least favorite was glazed with a raspberry drizzle. We will making the trip back. Yum! read more

My wife and I went here as a little treat for ourselves because we have never been here before. We decided to try it because we heard from other people that they were absolutely delicious. Well, they were right. We arrived and we're overwhelmed though by the amount of different choices that you had to choose from and that in itself becomes very complicated when you're going into purchase a donut and you've never been there before and you see all these different combinations and each one of them are pretty expensive for a donut. Now they are expensive but they're delicious overall. We ended up getting a box of six and every one of them were simply Delicious but extremely sweet so if you're not looking for something that's too sweet then you may want to look at something a little bit different than duck donuts because they are sweet all the way around. They do have drinks there as well and there drinks are very expensive as well. I ordered the chocolate explosion donut which is a donut with chocolate icing, hot fudge drizzle, and Oreo crumbles. The donut was delicious and delighted my taste buds. The donut was as fresh as it gets because they make them right on the spot. With this in mind, the donut was incredibly moist and the chocolate icing had great flavor. However we ordered the customer picks variety pack and the only donut we really liked was the raspberry lemon. So I actually found a time that there was next to no line during these first couple weeks of being open. Thursday at around 11:30 am to be exact. I took my time looking over the overwhelming choices of drizzle, toppings and frosting flavors. I was very impressed with the girl waiting on me. She kept telling me to take my time and not stress or rush my order. She patiently answered my questions. I ended up with an order of a dozen to share with my family. I got the basic starter flavors or something like that. I switched out two of the flavors for custom ones. These are cake donuts with a light cake consistency. When warm they are very good and not greasy. Honestly all donuts like any fried food are best straight out of the oven. My favorite was the chocolate with peanuts on top. It reminded me of a nutty buddy. I appreciated the salty peanuts against all that sweet. My second favorite was the simple glazed. The ones with frosting on them were over the top too sweet for me. I found myself pulling frosting off. As they cooled off the frosting got rock hard and the donuts got harder too. I will give them props for not leaving a greasy film on the roof of my mouth even when they cooled off like some other places's donuts do. I may have to go back for that chocolate peanut donut and maybe a bacon one. They are pricey so choose carefully. read more
