Surprised by the quality of the donut. Cake donuts are usually not my fav, as I do prefer yeast. However, we were all surprised the the taste, being able to customize and coming hot off the conveyor belt! The service was okay, I could only imagine what it's like to work there. This location is just about always busy in the summer. You can only order online if you choose from pre chosen dozen options. If you order a dozen in store, you can only get a dozen price if you choose from their established selection, so in summary there's no discount for a custom dozen. They have a promo to sign up for a free donut with a purchase but it's not valid until the day after you sign up. It is nice the donuts are hot & made to order but overall Duck Donuts isn't my favorite. Although, I will say I prefer yeast donuts so I'm sure if you like cake ones better you'd give it an extra star. We arrived an hour before closing time and they still had a bunch of options, but they were out of peanuts. One of the best parts about this place is that they make their donuts fresh, so you'll leave with a warm box. These are all cake donuts and they seem to all have the same base flavor, just with a bunch of different icing flavors and toppings. Some of the flavors were a bit too sweet, especially the fruity ones, but they were all fun to try. I ordered a random dozen, and they were a hit! The customer service was great. There were 10 people actively working hard, helping each other out, checking guests out, making donuts, and bringing out completed orders. It was top-notch. I arrived at 9:00 AM, and 13 people (5 groups) were in line outside. I walked in at 9:07, and there were another dozen folks in line. At 9:16, I reached the front of the line, and they took my order. At 9:23, they brought out my latte. At 9:52, my order was ready. The wait was long, but it was due to it being exceptionally busy and 'made to order.' All employees were working, and there was no capacity to add more people. They were thorough, efficient, and managed lines as quickly as possible. Any reviews solely based on time are not fair, as they do not consider the nature of the business. It's going to take a long time. My experience was that the staff was great and working hard, so if they had issues with that in the past like other reviews mentioned, they have fixed this issue. My suggestion is that they do a better job managing the communication of wait times. Letting their customers know the average wait time while checking out, maybe having a text system like many restaurants have for seating, or having an outdoor monitor that shows order progress could all help manage that communication and minimize any negative impacts on wait time. read more

Worst experience I have ever had. We are from PA and have loved going to Duck Donuts every year when we visit Corolla, NC. We will never go back after our last visit. We went in to order a dozen donuts, after ordering we were asked to stand outside to wait. My daughter works at the duck donuts in PA, so we know that each batch takes some time. After waiting for 45 minutes we knocked on the door to see if they would be done soon I was told by JP that if I wanted cold, fast donuts I could go down the street to dunkin, and he shut the door and locked it. After 15 more minutes another employee brought out our donuts, but she made sure everyone saw her do the sign of the cross on her chest before she handed me the donuts. It was my first time! I got up early and ran to Duck Donuts (had to earn it). I got there about 10 minutes before opening and the line was down the plaza. I waited for about an hour, but it didn't feel that long. The people around me were nice to chat with and the process they have set up is second to none! Everyone was working very efficiently. The people working here are nice but the donuts contain egg powder which is an allergen for people in our family. We love donuts so this is a disappointment for us.
