"A beggar's book outworths a noble's blood." [Henry VIII, Act I] Younger patrons may not realize that libraries were formerly depositories of books only. How things have altered! Of course, this branch of the Alameda County Library has books, but so much more. You can check out a laptop for free, attend a gardening class, get lessons in mathematics, have your bike fixed at a repair clinic, and even get seeds for your garden. A few weeks ago I picked up some cantaloupe seeds, which I have since planted. Did you know that this Library can request a book for you from any library in the country? And it's all free! That service is called Link Plus. This is a wonderful, even magical place. I am grateful for the resources that have been provided, all at no charge. The staff is always helpful and courteous.

Great book sale. They had a great selection of books at fabulous prices. I found lots of cool books for my grandchildren as well as a novel for myself. The friends of the library have sales in March and September with a special sale in December with books and stuffed animals paired. Members get early admission on Saturday Morning and Sunday afternoon they have a bag sale. I am looking forward to September to update my selections.

This is by far my favorite library in the East Bay. It's convenient that it's close to where I reside. The library has plenty of parking onsite and the solar panels provide great shade. The outside area is charming with seats in the shape of books. There are a variety of seating options in the library, which is really nice. I've come on occasion if I really need to focus on a project or when I needed to focus on work. I like the spacious tables where I can lay out all my stuff. There are also opportunities to study in a quiet area that's in the corner of the library. The quiet area is broken out into cubicles that provide privacy and focus. If you even want a quieter space, there's a room that you can break out in. There's a variety of books offered including cooking, gardening, kids section, movies to rent, and so much more. The staff is friendly and helpful to questions. This is a great community library to visit!

We will not be supporting this library. My kids were given rude "service" and had the worst experience ever.

Great place to study!…read more There are 3 floors but I get my steps in by walking up to the 3rd floor to sit down at one of the tables to get work done. I like this area because it is actually quiet and there are outlets right on the table. The wi fi is easy to access and is not slow. There are available study rooms to reserve. I would not suggest reserving one if you are looking for a quiet space (in case it does get loud in the main area) because the walls are thin and you can hear others speaking in the rooms next to you. I'd say that it is good to reserve for a group study session or if you need a whiteboard with the necessary dry erase markers. The location is really good because it's within walking distance to coffee shops and restaurants in case you need to grab a coffee before starting to study or need to take a break and get something to eat. There is plenty of parking in the parking garage!

After spending some time in downtown, my friend and I wanted to stop by the library to check out the new Zocalo pocket cafe (we're big fans of the San Leandro location). Unfortunately we got there when it was closed, but that gave us a reason to explore the library itself! It's so spacious with 3 levels of books, work rooms, and more. Libraries truly are such a wonderful resources. Along with the books to borrow, Hayward library also has a bookshop, a makers studio, a teen center, a community resource center, a seed library, a library of things, and much much more. There's so many places to sit - whether you're wanting to work with a large group or just need a computer space for yourself. The staff here was super helpful when we asked for directions on where to find things and when we asked about how the makers studio worked. Did you know you can reserve time in their makers studio to use machines like a sewing machine, a cricut, a large document printer, and even a laser cutter? Now you know. Anyways, now I know all the great resources here and I'm excited to come by whenever I want to work from somewhere else for a bit. Big plus that the parking garage is so spacious so you'll never have to struggle with parking while visiting.

DVC-San Ramon is one of several places to make online appointments for the vaccine in Contra Costa County for ages 16+. LOCATION and PARKING The main admin building is on East Campus, right off Watermill Rd. Follow the traffic circle and signs toward parking for COVID19 vaccines. I wound up parking near the Dougherty Station Library and Acorn Learning Center, which is a short walk to the main entrance. APPOINTMENT LINE They'll line you up outside every 6-feet in groups according to your appointment time that you got from the Contra Costa County Health Services "Mychart" app. Very organized and they had two volunteers/staff members there to give instructions and answer questions. REGISTRATION This is in one of the rooms with over half-dozen stations where they'll ask for you ID and insurance card. One scary thing is that they may ask for SSN and Mother's Maiden Name. Yikes. I would recommend declining to answer. Afterwards, my cousin who's a pharmacist said this info is for folks without insurance. The clinic needs to recover costs by billing the government. But still, SSN is a bit too sensitive. They didn't ask me but I did hear folks at other stations get asked. VACCINES This is done in a separate room, and the nurse I had was great - funny and good at putting you to ease. I got the Pfizer vaccine and the process is quick and painless. All those daily Turkish Getups really beefed up my shoulders, LOL. OBSERVATION The last part of the process is to pick one of the "classrooms" and just hang out for 15 mins before leaving. Each room had a nurse who will wipe down the chairs as folks leave. They also have an oxygen tank just in case. Overall a pretty smooth process and well-run operation. Lines moved quickly. The nice thing is your second vaccine appointment is automatically scheduled for you, although you can use the Mychart app to change if needed. 3-6 weeks needed for Pfizer, while 4-6 weeks out for Moderna.

Don't underestimate the faculty at DVC simply because it's a community college. A lot of the professors here are research experts in their discipline, coming from prestigious universities like UC Berkeley. Some of them realize how important it is to fulfill education within CC students as well. I feel that I've made closer, supportive relationships with DVC professors compared to my professors at UCSB. I highly recommend visiting this campus if you want intrapersonal connections with your peers and mentors as it's a tight knit, small campus compared to the one in Pleasant Hill. Additionally, my tuition for the first two years was reimbursed including a lot of school expenses compensated for through the COVID-19 emergency grant which they no longer do. Going to DVC has saved me so much money, regained my confidence in higher education, and gave me the opportunity to meet great people, find my higher potential, and transfer into one of my dream universities. Even though I spent only 1 quick semester in-person due to COVID, I had an awesome experience. I am truly grateful for the time I had at DVC and now that I graduated with a bachelors I reflect on this. If I ever want to take any class for fun or take prerequisites for grad school, med school, law school etc. I could always come back here! High school students, people who would like to switch careers, this is the place to be!
