This one's small compared to other city libraries, but still stately in structure. It's right next to the community center (I guess where weddings & other events can be held) so the grounds are very well maintained. The library is divided in 2 sections when you come in: ADULTS to the right and CHILDREN to the left. I think that's kind of weird, but it gets the message across so whatever. I come with my little in the morning for a few hours to read in the children area. It's never been crowded or loud when I've come. There are 4 small couches and baskets full of toddler board books to go through. She's 2 & loves getting to spend one-on-one time together doing something she loves in a quiet place tailored to her age. Honestly, it's probably one of only two free things to do with your kids in that darn expensive town (the 2nd being visiting a park).

You must remember that my frame of reference is the El Cerrito library, which is long past its prime and is awaiting rebuilding someday.

There are some small shops as well a a bunch of places to eat. Overall the town seems to be a little confused with a vibe that seems to be stuck between trying to be a little bit more modern and at the same time trying to keep the old town charm.

The man on the phone asked what type of event I wanted to hold, he said he recommends the picnic area. I told him we weren't interested in that area. He continued for a good 5 minutes going on and on about there not being enough parking, they usually only like to rent that space out for weddings, or they rent one house at a time, again suggesting the picnic area. First of all, Whether the picnic area or the meadow is rented out the parking situation remains the same. I finally just asked for clarity to end hi rambling, it's either a yes or no and he said "yeah I'm going to go with no". What! We're Danville residents simply looking for (and paying for) a place to hold a birthday party. It's available, I called 5 months in advance and he said no. Incredibly rude and I would love a sincere explanation as to why because apparently the decision is up this gentlemen and his mood for the day.

DVC-San Ramon is one of several places to make online appointments for the vaccine in Contra Costa County for ages 16+. LOCATION and PARKING The main admin building is on East Campus, right off Watermill Rd. Follow the traffic circle and signs toward parking for COVID19 vaccines. I wound up parking near the Dougherty Station Library and Acorn Learning Center, which is a short walk to the main entrance. APPOINTMENT LINE They'll line you up outside every 6-feet in groups according to your appointment time that you got from the Contra Costa County Health Services "Mychart" app. Very organized and they had two volunteers/staff members there to give instructions and answer questions. REGISTRATION This is in one of the rooms with over half-dozen stations where they'll ask for you ID and insurance card. One scary thing is that they may ask for SSN and Mother's Maiden Name. Yikes. I would recommend declining to answer. Afterwards, my cousin who's a pharmacist said this info is for folks without insurance. The clinic needs to recover costs by billing the government. But still, SSN is a bit too sensitive. They didn't ask me but I did hear folks at other stations get asked. VACCINES This is done in a separate room, and the nurse I had was great - funny and good at putting you to ease. I got the Pfizer vaccine and the process is quick and painless. All those daily Turkish Getups really beefed up my shoulders, LOL. OBSERVATION The last part of the process is to pick one of the "classrooms" and just hang out for 15 mins before leaving. Each room had a nurse who will wipe down the chairs as folks leave. They also have an oxygen tank just in case. Overall a pretty smooth process and well-run operation. Lines moved quickly. The nice thing is your second vaccine appointment is automatically scheduled for you, although you can use the Mychart app to change if needed. 3-6 weeks needed for Pfizer, while 4-6 weeks out for Moderna.

Don't underestimate the faculty at DVC simply because it's a community college. A lot of the professors here are research experts in their discipline, coming from prestigious universities like UC Berkeley. Some of them realize how important it is to fulfill education within CC students as well. I feel that I've made closer, supportive relationships with DVC professors compared to my professors at UCSB. I highly recommend visiting this campus if you want intrapersonal connections with your peers and mentors as it's a tight knit, small campus compared to the one in Pleasant Hill. Additionally, my tuition for the first two years was reimbursed including a lot of school expenses compensated for through the COVID-19 emergency grant which they no longer do. Going to DVC has saved me so much money, regained my confidence in higher education, and gave me the opportunity to meet great people, find my higher potential, and transfer into one of my dream universities. Even though I spent only 1 quick semester in-person due to COVID, I had an awesome experience. I am truly grateful for the time I had at DVC and now that I graduated with a bachelors I reflect on this. If I ever want to take any class for fun or take prerequisites for grad school, med school, law school etc. I could always come back here! High school students, people who would like to switch careers, this is the place to be!
