Im writing this review as I start my last semester here at Las Positas. For the last three years, I have enjoyed so much about this school. I started taking classes while I was in high school, and I am so glad I did. Although the school is lacking a little bit on the social side, I know that most students are commuters and would recommend joining a club if you are looking to make friends. The thought of having to leave Las Positas this year makes me very sad. I have had so many fantastic professors, classes, and met a lot of amazing people in the last three years. Also just a few tips: - Use rate my professor to find the best professors for the classes you need. - Rent your textbooks on Amazon, unless an access code is needed with the textbook. read more

I was looking to add a little spark in my life and haven't had any luck in the dating scene. So why not try learning a new skill like welding! I've always been fascinated with how metal is fused together to make beautiful structures. I found out about a series of night courses being offered at Las Positas College that are funded in partnership with Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and the NNSA to provide deployment of workplace skills. Even though the class goes past my bedtime from 6pm-10pm every Tuesday evening, I jumped on this opportunity to learn a new skill. This welding class is an introduction to TIG and MIG welding. These two processes are widely used in manufacturing industries. The course consists of lecture time and hands on shop time with an instructor for each session located in state of the art building 3500. I'm three sessions in and already gaining more understanding of basic welded joints. I look forward to every Tuesday evening and can't wait to see what what project we'll learn about and working on. I attest that you can still teach old dogs News tricks! read more

It is impossible to connect with a live person for assistance via telephone. Voice Mail Recordings have not been updated and they point to remote work due to COVID. It took 3+ weeks (started this process in late April 2021) to get my HS student enrolled into a Summer 2021 course. I had to contact the LPC office in Dublin several times to get assistance because the LPC Livermore staff is impossible to connect with. My daughter attempted to login to her first day of class today (6/21) only to discover that her class had been cancelled late last week. There were no notifications of this cancellation and she was expecting to take this class because it impacts her Fall math class selections. Given the lack of LPC staff availability to assist with questions, concerns & needs I would NOT recommend LPC. The staff is unresponsive, uncommunicative and course selections are limited, especially if you seek in-person teaching. Try a responsive school like Diablo Valley College or Ohlone College. read more

This review is for the staff member located at the bookstore. My daughter and I got a refund transaction we needed to do today and Lori helped us with it. Lori is professional, informative, and explained everything we need to expect for our refund. The transaction she helped us today is somewhat complicated and yet she was calm and she was done in no time. Thank you Lori (I hope I spelled her name correctly) I also wanted to mention the day we originally purchased books for my daughter. Ashley helped us locating everything my daughter needed for school and I just want to note that she is pleasant & made us aware on how we can save money. She explained rental options and provided us with additional details. Thank you Ashley. Bookstore rating: 5 stars read more

Their staff during the summer season hasn't been resourceful or encouraging to incoming students. For first time registrants they don't assist you in telling you the steps you needs to take, what you can look forward to or anything. It's terrible here. This school has one of the lowest enrollment rates and I can definitely understand why. The counselor told my niece today she couldn't help her with support because she wasn't enrolled. She's enrolled and wants to ensure she's taking the correct classes to transfer. The counselor was so discouraging and should work on not being judge mental. My niece will succeed either way but the staff is terrible. read more

Where does one start when reviewing a campus? Las positas has provided me and many others a very affordable alternative and bridge that we can use to bridge to other schools in California. This location serves a convenient campus option of the local residents of Livermore, and based on the demographic, serves as a great commuter school. I've known peers who commute from Tracy, Modest (not many), San Ramon, Danville, Walnut Creek and so forth, The teachers here are generally really cool, too! I'm not in my 3rd and final year, and I've only had a handful of teachers I didn't like. AND they're expanding and remodeling the campus! The new cafeteria even has it's own starbucks, and has a wider selection of foods. Although it's pretty impacted as far as JCs go, Las Positas probably ranks as one of the better ones. It's in a good area, and offers such a wide variety of courses, and has cool workshops with mentors that will show you the proper steps towards transferring/graduating. This school is something you will look back on in fondness, because it really does serve as a great way to earn work experience or serve as a gateway to 4-year schools. read more

First off I will apologize in advance for all the grammatical errors... I cannot stress how disappointed I am with Las Positas community college. I knew my "priority registration number" was not going to be the highest, after all I've had my fair share of struggles as most adults do when working over 40+ hours a week, commuting countless hours a day, struggling to make ends meet with rising cost of living, supporting a family, all the while juggling the night classes I didn't need to take but I am almost forced to because of Las Positas College's so called Priority registration System. To clarify, I have a few student loans that I can only have placed on hold if I am at least a part time student, which is 6 credits. Now the problem is that LPC only offers a select few night classes that I actually need in order to continue my course to transfer, however by the time my priority number finally arrives all of these courses I need are already at capacity with those who were able to register before I. So where does this leave me? Now I have to register for anything that is available which is, you guessed it, CLASSES I DO NOT NEED TO TAKE. All this, so I can just postpone my loan payments. Here I am, I can't even remember how many years later from when I first attended LPC, and I am no closer to transferring nor have I even made a dent into my payments. It's just a disgusting cycle made to keep students at the school for as long as possible and all of this is made possible by the joke they call the counselors. If you have been lucky enough to wait hours for an appointment with one of these geniuses, you may have already realized that they are not there to help you but instead rant about the latest gossip within the office or better yet be completely ignored until their non work related conversation is over and you're rudely greeted with a "Yea?" And transcript evaluations? FORGET ABOUT IT! You'll have better luck at a random High school counselor's office. There is always some excuse as to why the counselor's can't or won't help with transcript evaluations. So once again, a student now has to guess which classes they still need to take in order to transfer or graduate and if you end up taking the wrong one and find out after the deadline for dropping, well you're SOL, because you now will not only owe the money for the course but your account is placed on a hold and your priority for registration is pushed even further back because you fall below a certain percentage of whether the school feels you may or may not succeed... So after thousands of dollars, and countless hours dedicated to visiting counselors, dropping off forms I am finding out that my priority registration date is the same as any student who registers today... Is this some cruel joke?! Am I really that insignificant that I couldn't have a one day advantage? Top it off, I have to wait 2 weeks for an appointment to discuss this with a Counselor? I am truly sick to my stomach to think that any place like this can be called a community college. This is no school, this is a business. A business who is scamming hundreds of thousands of hard working commuter students with the hopes of a better tomorrow. But instead they will be faced with headache after roadblock after debt. Now I apologize for this ongoing rant, and I am aware of all the grammatical errors it contains. I am simply too angry and more so disappointed to go back through and edit, however I hope the point is clear: LAS POSITAS COLLEGE IS A TERRIBLE SCHOOL who will suck any hope you ever had of finishing college and if I could I would rate it with negative stars for the trouble it has caused me. -on a side note, my actual meeting with the dean of students about these and other concerns i had may have not seemed that important to her. Why would i think that you say? After having what i would describe as one of the worst weeks of my life i found myself at the deans office hoping to find a listening ear and with any hope, some very much needed guidance. instead i was told i needed to make an appointment but because of the the condition i seemed to be in, she was willing to see me at 3:00pm. So i called out of work, and waited on campus until 3pm to see the dean. it was a little after 3 when i was called into, not her office, but a table in what looked like a waiting area. She jumped right in and asked why i had come to see her. i was hoping that i could control my emotions, however the rollercoaster of a week i had just experienced had taken a toll on me and i began to sob. I conveyed my concerns and told her i had no where else to turn, i literally poured my heart out. Her response i will never forget. Handing me the tissue box, i quote "I cannot get involved in an instructors decision. I have to leave, i'm already late to pick up my daughter." and just like that the meeting was over. I left her office that day feeling not only shocked by her interaction but even more humiliated. read more

Finished a semester here.Fresh out of high school from the Oakland hills. LPC is a nice and good looking college but It does not work for me due to the lack that I don't drive and I live far away from LPC. I had to take public transportation and it took like an hour. Will I go back to LPC? most likely not unless I get a car. I preferred going here than Chabot because i don't fell that chabot is safe. The only thing i don't like is the seize of the cafeteria but that dont really matter also the food is at least good. The professors are somewhat mediocre just look for the right professors and read reviews about them. I recommend ratemyprofessor dot com (i think thats the website) and then just look for the school and then the class or professor. Also I ended up withdrawing classes and dropping some of them due to a job. Never at LPC I took a final and only 1 midterm. I only ended up having one class and never showed up for the class final. I feel that I was not ready for college, or even prepared, but that's just me. it's nice having another building here. read more

The most unprofessional college I've ever attended. Spending a semester at this college was the worst decision I've made thus far. I've had numerous issues with my two degree requests being "lost" and now a year later I've found out that my transcript was never sent to the university I transferred to, which is affecting my ability to enroll in higher division courses and graduate. The people working in the administration and admissions office are very unresponsive and unhelpful. My time and experience at Las Positas has done nothing but hider my education. read more

I waited one hour trying to set up an appointment with a counselor (3pm to 5pm, and I was the second in line since 3pm) after the long wait, they told me that I had to wait until next semester, but before that I sent them an email (never got a response) and I called the number on their webpage, which directed me to send an email or do it online. Waste of time. read more

I have attended three separate community colleges in my adult life but Las Positas will be my last, for all the right reasons. First off the campus is stunning, yes it is small but the buildings are all very new with great classrooms and the parking lots are all conveniently located. The surrounding area is also very scenic as the school is built near Wine vineyards that make for a great view. I have to give a special shout out to counselor Jared Howard as well who has a passion for what he does and is as helpful as any college employee I have ever had to interact with. I can't speak for any negative experiences that others have had as I have only had positive in my time here. I couldn't be more proud to be a student of Las Positas College. read more

$CAM! Parking lots are "permit only" but there is absolutely no signage at the entrance nor at the individual parking lots/parking stalls. This is intentional so they can rip you off with bogus parking tickets. And of course there are no parking payment machines visible-also by design. Contest the ticket by providing photographic evidence of lack of signage, and the administration ignores the evidence/just laughs at you. File an internal administrative review, again they will ignore the evidence. Because, it's all about the revenue. When will local law enforcement investigate these scammers and send people to prison? Don't hold your breath. There's a better chance of Hillary and Obama being locked up at GITMO. read more

If I can give this school negative 5 stars I would! This school has been nothing but an absolute nightmare. The counsellors are of no help. I transferred here 4 years ago with out of state transcripts and the counselor had me take two classes that I had already taken at another college: she clearly had difficulty doing her job to evaluate my credits. That misled information that she provided cost me $1,152 for out of state tuition for only 4 units. This was just the beginning... Year after year I have had nothing but obstacles that I needed to hurdle over because the schools registration system is flawed. The school is over packed and to fix their overpopulated issues, they've created "Priority Registration" which gives better priority to those who are of good standing and not a Non-Resident of California. This system is flawed due to it filtering out those who've made mistakes in the past. If you fail a class, they make your priority lower. Dear Las Positas, why do you continue to kick students down while they are already falling behind? How does this method work? How is it even ethical? To continue my rant on this broken system of a school: their counseling services aren't "full service". They do not offer Transcript Evaluation during the summer session or within the two first weeks of a semester. This does not make sense! For those who are new to the area and transferring towards the beginning of the semester, good luck with finding out what classes you need because Las Positas finds it justifiable to not offer services of road-mapping to help future students navigate their higher education. This is probably the most unfathomable policy they have. It's preposterous! To continue their preposterous service, it seems that their staff cannot keep their information consistent. For instance, I had enrolled in the Board of Governor's Fee Waiver and was not told that it's only valid for one year and that it needs to be renewed annually. I had asked the Financial Aid officer on campus if that was the case, and she reassured me that it was valid as I continued taking courses. I had a rude awakening when I looked at my records to see an astronomical number of fees that should've been waived however, due to the miscommunication of a staff member I am now out of funds that could've been used towards rent, bills, continuing tuition, etc. Their Hold Policies are as extensive and scrutinizing as a creditor. All in all, I feel that Las Positas is only concerned with their efforts of increasing fee generating revenue to increase their end of year profits. They are not concerned with my attempts of a higher education even though I continue to pay my dues and earn above average scores after each term. Dear Las Positas, I strongly urge that your organization restructure their Counseling/Admissions & Records/Financial Aid policies and procedures so that they are tailored to the best interest of the student body, not tailored to the benefit and convenience of your staffing. Sincerely and Regrettably, A Discouraged Student who has given up. read more

I would recommend Las Positas College to anyone. I came here after spending my freshman year at UC Santa Cruz, thinking I would just come for a year to get a better handle on what I wanted to major in (and save my parents some moola), but I ended up staying two years. And that's not because I sucked and tried to get out but couldn't. I really enjoyed it here. There is the occasional bad seed when it comes to teachers, but I'd say almost all of my teachers were both good in the classroom and with being a help after class (whether it was school related or not). I got an associate's degree in psychology here and loved the psych classes. I eventually went on to get my bachelor's in journalism (San Jose State, yo!), and I got a bit of experience under my belt here working on the LPC Express. The journalism/mass communications department was admittedly a bit meager when I was here ... really the only class I could take was to actually work on the paper, but the advisors at the time were very knowledgeable and helpful. I believe the program has been amped up a bit in recent years. They are adding some great new buildings to campus, including an already opened physical education complex. This may be a suburban community college, but it draws talented people for events -- most recently Kim Peek (the inspiration for "Rain Man"), who packed the house. As for any drawbacks, the location is both convenient and not -- central to Livermore/Pleasanton/Dublin, but also not near much else (except Costco). Parking was a problem here sometimes ... you could usually find a space, but it might be a bit of a walk. But the campus is well-maintained, I always felt safe, etc. They've got a new cafeteria now (only a "roach coach" when I was there), so that is kind of fancy too. Oh, and the price is right. read more

This is an amazing community college. The classes are just as good (or better) than 4 year colleges. I went for 3 years and then finished up my bachelors at UC Davis. I would have to say that the science classes were WAY BETTER at Las Positas. There's a lot more personal attention and better resources and equipment. I was totally blown away in retrospect after I had finished at Davis. At only a few dollars a unit - a few hundred dollars a semester beats the crap out of paying ten grand a year! Community college is the way to go if you're looking to save some money while getting a better education! Woo Hoo for CC! read more

I've been going to this school for about three years now. It amazes me how the financial aid department can be so rude! I ask one simple question I couldn't find the answer to, and I get a rude response by email. I would only recommend going here if you don't need financial aid. I asked was if I qualify this semester for financial aid, because I've been working hard to get it back. This is what I get, "If you read your Student Aid Report (available by logging into your fafsa account at www.fafsa.gov) it clearly would indicate that you do not qualify for a pell grant. This should not be a surprise." Really? A simple 'NO, but here's where you can look in the future' would've been just fine!!! I'm not upset I didn't qualify because I make too much money (30,000 I don't see how that's too much at all, I can't even purchase a house with that.) I'm upset with the attitude I continue to receive from this department at the college. I've also been to Delta College and I must say the staff is a LOT nicer/helpful there!!! Looks like it's time to switch schools! read more

Can I just say that I am so happy to finally be out of there. Majority of professors I've had have been terrible. Don't get me wrong, there were some that were great, but on average, mediocre would be an overstatement. I'm a good student and I take pride in my course work, but half of the classes I've taken I've learned nothing from, and teachers have a lot to do with that. As for counselors, ohhhhhh man lol. I've heard absolute HORROR stories about some of the crap they've pulled on students. Giving them false deadlines (and students consequently have been dropped from all their classes and had to take a semester off), false course/major/transfer information (where students ended up having to stay extra to make up the classes they should have taken, or payed and took classes that were totally useless to them), and even more. Luckily, I made sure to meet with either Joel or Michael whenever I went and I got the help I needed. Now let's talk about admissions. Basically, if you're transferring, expect the summer before your transferred semester to suck, because you will be calling admissions daily trying to get ahold of them to get the paperwork you need. So much anxiety. I've been close to missing deadlines because I couldn't get ahold of who I needed, despite my persistent attempts at calling and emailing. The one good thing I will say about LPC is the transfer center. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT. It helped me greatly with transferring. This is the only reason I'm giving the school 2 stars. If the transfer center had its own Yelp page i would give it 5 stars. Best department on campus hands down. I know it's just CC, but damn. How nice it would be if the faculty actually took their jobs seriously... Basically, just go to DVC. read more

The college put least priority for registration of high school students who wants to take AP classes in summer school. This is not a fair way to treat high school students. They don't have guess parking or visit parking. You have to pay parking. It's very bad college. 他們沒有猜測停車或訪問停車場。 你必須支付停車費。 這是非常糟糕的大學。 對於希望在暑期學校上AP課程的高中生來說，該學院的註冊優先級最低。 這不是治療高中生的公平方式。 read more

I love this college. Everyone is so professional and the campus is super clean. I chose this college over delta. The staff is super helpful. I was able to get classes for the summer and for the fall! How great is that? Typically at any school you wouldn't be able to get the classes you need because they've already been taken. Not to mention the campus is beautiful and quiet. I could easily take a nap in my car on campus and feel safe :-) Hope it remains this way forever read more

Well it's a community college like any other community college. It's quite affordable. The staff is somewhat helpful and really try to do that extra step. I stuck with one adviser (or counselor) there called Gilberto Victoria. He has helped me very much. He helped me transfer international transcripts, get an AA and when I move to SJSU he even helped me when they claimed that I was missing units (even though I was out of the college for years already). I met him in the supermarket one time and he recognized me. This felt very nice that he added that personal touch. I think it is a good college, where I have actually learned a lot. Not just in class but by sharing personal experiences with students as well as professors. read more

I went here for 3.years before I transfered. One of the best colleges in my opinion although it is now harder to get the classes you want but they have been adding a couple new buildings. Most professors are knowledgeable and actually know how to teach whereas there are a few that just don't know how to teach and not sure why they still work there. They have a really nice and new recreation center and 2 spanking new football (soccer) fields. Over the 3 years I was here the prices per unit went from $26 to $46 but don't worry you can be eligible for financial aid and or other scholarships. You can get paid for your classes and books and sometimes even rent. Councilors there are good but best one who can always help you out is Gilberto. read more

I took a couple years off at Las Positas but now I am back with a full schedule! Since I've been back, they have totally remodeled the campus and it turned out really, really nice! The worst part of going here is how impacted all of the classes are. Even when you are put on the wait list and go to that class the first day, some teachers don't even give you a chance to wait it out and see what students drop (WHICH THEY ALWAYS DO!) I love the counseling department. Always so helpful and nice. Financial Aid department is frustrating. I've been there 3 times the last 2 weeks and no one ever knows what they're doing. I'm 24 years old and new to this FA, so it's really stressful. I'm a Psych major and I just have to say... Las Positas has the best Psychology teachers! Each teacher I've had in this department have taught me more than I could ever imagine. Ernie Jones is by far the best teacher I have ever had. :) Good community college minus the fact it's so hard to get into the classes you need to transfer! read more

My experience here so far has been pretty terrible. Professors that are unwilling to help you, a staff that is never actually working. For example I've been attending las po for over a year and they obviously have record of it yet they still want to charge me out of state tuition!! If I've been coming here for a year clearly I'm a resident!!! Not to mention they have a decent size gym that is actually fairly nice but students can't even utilize it unless they take a class otherwise the weight rooms and treadmills and any sort of machine are locked in the classroom!! Really? We pay that much to get locked out? Come on now! read more

This Junior college has a few petty teachers, other than that it's pretty much a nice school. Some staff are not helpful and some are. It's not as ghetto as Chabot college which is their sister school. Meaning, the students here are much easier to work and deal with on a daily basis. Class availability is the same as other schools, they fill up quick, but on your second semester you will have priority over the new students. Parking is great! not as bad as some schools. I graduated from here with an AA degree in Business Admin this year, and I'm on my way to SSU next semester. I definitely recommend this school. read more

This place is a joke!!! Good luck in getting into a class because it fills up quick! They have so many students going there yet they lack having enough courses and instructors! The instructors say they are not allowed to end class early but they do anyway. The biggest thing of all is they lack PASSION for a student's education! They currently don't have a Dean...... wow! I've also heard students talking in the LPC hallways that the Chabot campus is extremely ghetto, parking sucks and wear a bullet proof vest! The counseling office is the biggest joke of all, extremely unorganized and lack of communication! A person can't drop in to talk to a counselor, you have to apply and go through these loops in order to talk to a counselor! I've done several drop ins in the counseling office and every time the part-time counselor doesn't give me legit info because they know nothing. You HAVE TO talk to 10 different counselors because 2 out of 10 will actually give you correct info! Making an appointment takes several months in order to have a 30 min to 1 hour meeting with a counselor. I get that there are cut backs in funding for schools so staff is lacking and finding the right information is lacking also. I met with Barbara Morrisey who is a senior counselor to go over my student course outline so I could prepare myself for the next semester in order to get the correct classes for the following semester. The following semester ends and I apply for my degree just to find out I'm missing 2 classes. WTF! Going over my outline Barbara overlooked my courses and checked off the wrong courses. What time I've wasted there! Great job Las Positas for ruining education with hiring horrible staff! I've heard good things about DVC & Ohlone college and should have gone there instead! read more

I've gone to Las Positas for about a year and a half now, going onto 2 years, and frankly, as good of a school it is I've found its not for me. Which I feel has affected my academics, because I lack any strive from this school, personally. The school is expanding, but the new buildings on the way wont bring back all the classes they are cutting back on. I get the whole budget cut thing, but if you don't care about taking many fun classes beyond drama and basic photo (the most expansive art is traditional, like watercolor and sketch) then this would be a good school for you. Here are the good points . The campus is VERY clean, you can only smoke on the parking lots (for those who care) . The campus is also very safe, the campus security are always patrolling the campus- mostly for parking violators but there non the less, and if you don't feel safe you can request them to escort you . The majority of teachers I've come across really care about their subjects. As an example, currently, my English teacher is in her late 20's and has her Ph. D! She could be teaching somewhere high-end but she chose to work with a community college, and she's one of the people who make the school great. . Good selection of computers, between the lab and the library, and the Integrated Learning Center (an area sometimes mandatory to spend time in where you can get work done and help from teachers) . Campus looks modern, bright, and new, even the oldest rooms don't look as bad as some UC or CSU's classrooms do. . Firefighting! If you want to become a firefighter or something to do with firefighting this is the place to go, their curriculum is huge (but tough!) . Wine! They have a large vineyard where you can learn to do everything wine and stuff (which is great and unique :] ) The Bad . PARKING PARKING PARKING, just like everywhere else, if you have an early class (7-8am) then you have a guaranteed chance of getting the lower lots (A-D) but I would suggest going straight to the back lot H , yes its on the complete other end from A lot but your always going to get a spot, and maybe even the solar-power shelter for when its really hot or raining. . Bring a lunch, though the food is good, it is a small cafeteria... eh . Just like many other community colleges, its like an extended high school, there are lots of people who know each other but plenty of others who don't. There are lots of people who are anti-social (the ones you can tell aren't still in their pompass high school stage are nice :] ) . Theres not much around- except the starbucks off the freeway, Wendys, the fancy new church and Costco (only takes cash for food) and the Boomers amusment mini-golf park all the obnoxious ghetto kids go. . DO NOT GET GAS BY THE SCHOOL- its a rip because they know people will stop there, wait until you hit an arco or something . NOT A LARGE SELECTION OF CLUBS- Unless you make one, if your looking to add an extra curricular activity like a club to add to a transfer you aren't going to find it here! . Don't trust just one counselor! They have to handle everyone, and they are going to try to keep you at the school so they can keep getting money. Talk to more than one, and ask them to help you make a plan, and if you want to transfer to a different school talk to that schools representative FIRST, and then the counselor, so you know what you need to do and the counselor can help make a plan. SO! Basically, if you are there strictly for academics, this is a fantastic school for you, but if you are looking for art, or a change of pace of life from the towns surrounding it, then Las Positas is not for you. read more

Bookstore is a ripoff! Rented a book for the semester for $115, then tried to return it a few days after their June 1st deadline (why should there be a deadline if they're going to use the book again next semester?!?!?) and they refused to take the book back and said they were charging me $278 for the book and keeping the $115 rental fee. They said I "signed a contract" but there is no contract, only a receipt that does not stipulate what I would be charged if I didn't bring the book back by Junes 1st. Nice, rip off college students. Moral of the story, buy online instead of the bookstore if you don't want them to rip you off. read more

After graduating high school I knew I wanted to go to college but not sure what direction I wanted to take and being I was completely on my own, did not want to spend huge amounts of money trying to figure it out. It took me 3 years but I got my AA from Las Po and had a wonderful experience! Saved tons of money and spent the first year trying different courses to find my strengths and passions. If you're not sure of your future, I highly recommend trying a few different areas; you will have great self discovery and won't create a huge debt while doing it. Overall I took night courses and online courses since I was working, and really appreciated the variety they offered. This school makes a huge attempt to cater to the working adult. Had good teachers with small classes sizes. The campus is well kept and they make every effort to stay current with technology and course offerings. Only down side for me were some of the less serious students... overall it is what you make it! read more

I agree with Lea completely. I'm about to transfer out of Las Positas, and have enjoyed the majority of my classes and teachers here. All the ones I have had seem to care about student success. At $20/unit, who can complain? Oh, and almost all the teachers I have had have previously taught at other higher-education institutions in both the UC and CSU systems - so they definitely know their stuff, and know what to teach so that students who are transferring to a four-year university will be extremely successful. read more

So I'm sitting at the Pearson Center waiting to take the test that I studied 2 1/2 weeks for. Most of the studying was done at the library at Las Positas. The staff were incredibly nice, the bathroom was OK, covered drinks are ok, the study spaces are well-maintained. The campus is lovely and well tended. Parking was easy and cost two dollars a day without a semester pass. The only complaint I have is something that is endemic to having a bunch of young people in a space, they just don't shut the hell up. There is no need to have full on conversations in the study areas. Get a study room, go outside, go sit up at the front. I couldn't get a study room because I'm not a student, or else I would've reserved one and not had to listen to conversations about boyfriends, girlfriends, which student slept with who, which teacher is a jerk. I get that we all need study breaks, but your study break should be a break somewhere else, not in the middle of the study area. I'm that old lady who is going to yell at you "get off my lawn." I did tell a group to quiet down when I had enough, they were very polite but then started talking again right away. So would I recommend the library for studying? If you can go between 8 AM and noon, when it is quieter, and bring earplugs if you can. read more

Great school, but I don't recommend the cafeteria anymore, last semester it was great. This semester it's been very disappointing . 4/5 because of the cafeteria situation. read more

The staff is extremely unhelpful, and always unavailable. Counselors are hard to meet with, and finding parking is difficult at times. I've also come across a lot of mediocre teachers here. The way registration works is very inconvenient, and it's not easy to get into classes. Other people are given priority depending on how long you've been there and can sign up earlier. I generally find this school filled with lousy staff, and that's its major downfall. It's hard to get into contact with people. The vending machines take your money all of the time, and I've had to get a refund many times. The campus is nice, and maintained. But that's the only good thing I can say about it. read more

I like my teachers and classes, but administration is awful and unhelpful unless you you call over and over, insist on better surface and make a (polite) fuss. Their policies about when you can do things like see a counselor are ridiculous. A motivated student should be able to get the first available appointment, not have to jump through hoops for 6 weeks first, and then be offered an appointment 3 weeks after finishing their inane checklist. Their hours are very, very difficult and inflexible for if you are working and not just a full time student. I do not recommend this school for anyone that is interested in getting things done in a timely matter or if you have any "real world" obligations to balance with your education. Like I said though, my experiences with the teachers have been pleasant. It's also a beautiful, well laid out campus and pretty easy to park at (though not easy to acquire a parking pass, more admin problems!) The cafeteria has yummy food. The bookstore is helpful. I wish I had just reapplied to Diablo Valley College and driven the extra half an hour to classes. read more

Since I've started here the school has been perfect for me. Small, Friendly campus with great staff. The veterans center is the best one I've ever came across. Lots of recourses and the staff goes above and beyond to help you with whatever you need. I highly recommend this school for veterans. And anyone for that matter. read more

I've taken Mass Communications, Sociology, and US History at Las Pos as a concurrent when i was in High School and I definitely don't regret taking any of those classes. The teachers were supportive and for the most part made the class pretty fun. The environment is also clean and the classes are pretty cheap too. read more

I love this school and i've been attending for over 2 years now. I've taken a variety of courses from standards such as english, to specialties such as automotive and welding. All of the classes were fantastic. I highly recommend their automotive/welding program for anyone with an interest in the field (you can take it just as a hobby) and the curriculum classes are great too. Parking is ample, facilities are clean, water fountains are tasty, and the people are friendly. Also you'll love how close costco is, if you like to go to the food court for lunch. read more
