Told to come back after waiting almost an hour in the online lobby.

Ive been trying to talk with a counselor, but the wait is always so long. I finally got in after waiting almost an hour only to be told by the counselor to come back tomorrow.

    Nahid A.

First off I will apologize in advance for all the grammatical errors... I cannot stress how disappointed I am with Las Positas community college. I knew my "priority registration number" was not going to be the highest, after all I've had my fair share of struggles as most adults do when working over 40+ hours a week, commuting countless hours a day, struggling to make ends meet with rising cost of living, supporting a family, all the while juggling the night classes I didn't need to take but I am almost forced to because of Las Positas College's so called Priority registration System. To clarify, I have a few student loans that I can only have placed on hold if I am at least a part time student, which is 6 credits. Now the problem is that LPC only offers a select few night classes that I actually need in order to continue my course to transfer, however by the time my priority number finally arrives all of these courses I need are already at capacity with those who were able to register before I. So where does this leave me? Now I have to register for anything that is available which is, you guessed it, CLASSES I DO NOT NEED TO TAKE. All this, so I can just postpone my loan payments. Here I am, I can't even remember how many years later from when I first attended LPC, and I am no closer to transferring nor have I even made a dent into my payments. It's just a disgusting cycle made to keep students at the school for as long as possible and all of this is made possible by the joke they call the counselors. If you have been lucky enough to wait hours for an appointment with one of these geniuses, you may have already realized that they are not there to help you but instead rant about the latest gossip within the office or better yet be completely ignored until their non work related conversation is over and you're rudely greeted with a "Yea?" And transcript evaluations? FORGET ABOUT IT! You'll have better luck at a random High school counselor's office. There is always some excuse as to why the counselor's can't or won't help with transcript evaluations. So once again, a student now has to guess which classes they still need to take in order to transfer or graduate and if you end up taking the wrong one and find out after the deadline for dropping, well you're SOL, because you now will not only owe the money for the course but your account is placed on a hold and your priority for registration is pushed even further back because you fall below a certain percentage of whether the school feels you may or may not succeed... So after thousands of dollars, and countless hours dedicated to visiting counselors, dropping off forms I am finding out that my priority registration date is the same as any student who registers today... Is this some cruel joke?! Am I really that insignificant that I couldn't have a one day advantage? Top it off, I have to wait 2 weeks for an appointment to discuss this with a Counselor? I am truly sick to my stomach to think that any place like this can be called a community college. This is no school, this is a business. A business who is scamming hundreds of thousands of hard working commuter students with the hopes of a better tomorrow. But instead they will be faced with headache after roadblock after debt. Now I apologize for this ongoing rant, and I am aware of all the grammatical errors it contains. I am simply too angry and more so disappointed to go back through and edit, however I hope the point is clear: LAS POSITAS COLLEGE IS A TERRIBLE SCHOOL who will suck any hope you ever had of finishing college and if I could I would rate it with negative stars for the trouble it has caused me. -on a side note, my actual meeting with the dean of students about these and other concerns i had may have not seemed that important to her. Why would i think that you say? After having what i would describe as one of the worst weeks of my life i found myself at the deans office hoping to find a listening ear and with any hope, some very much needed guidance. instead i was told i needed to make an appointment but because of the the condition i seemed to be in, she was willing to see me at 3:00pm. So i called out of work, and waited on campus until 3pm to see the dean. it was a little after 3 when i was called into, not her office, but a table in what looked like a waiting area. She jumped right in and asked why i had come to see her. i was hoping that i could control my emotions, however the rollercoaster of a week i had just experienced had taken a toll on me and i began to sob. I conveyed my concerns and told her i had no where else to turn, i literally poured my heart out. Her response i will never forget. Handing me the tissue box, i quote "I cannot get involved in an instructors decision. I have to leave, i'm already late to pick up my daughter." and just like that the meeting was over. I left her office that day feeling not only shocked by her interaction but even more humiliated.

There were several machines that did not work for the entirety of my membership which was a little over a year. When they remodeled, all they did was throw some paint and few phrases on the wall. They added one tiny area where I feel like it was used for TRX or something. It was not a true remodel. I expected to come back to immaculately clean machines and replaced equipment where needed. Nope. Not the case. The bathrooms are filthy. There have been instances where there's been blood on the floor, puddles, just not clean. I get the ick when I see people using the pool and spa just because I know they're not well cared for. Often times the spa will have tons of foam. I'm sure it's not sanitary. Spend a few more bucks are go elsewhere. This place is a dump.

I will start out by explaining the need for better communication amongst the participants prior to…read morerace day. We registered through snail mail to avoid the processing fees, and a week later my check was cashed and that was the only way I knew they received my payment and registration! No email to confirm, so I had to email to verify a few weeks before the event that we were registered. It took a few days to get a response and when I did I was informed in fact we were not registered! I emailed back confirmig the date my check was cashed, then reply was sent back saying our registration was misplaced but they found it. Whew! But no other information is provided prior to race day, and that's frustrating to first timers as myself. Day of Event: I will say the preparation for race day was much more organized. We arrived at 5:45am and everything was practically set up, easy to retrieve your bib with plenty of friendly volunteers. I had to ask around a lot where to go, what to do, it was our first sprint triathlon, but everyone was helpful. There is a pre race speech given by past participants who were very informative and motivating! 400 yard swim: They break you up into age and male/females. Which I liked, easier to swim next to my fellow women especially when you may be in really close proximity. I hit a few people with my arms and legs but everyone was really friendly to my apolgies. The water at Shadow Cliffs I will have to say is DISGUSTING! Seriously, just walking to the starting point of the swim, makes me gag thinking about it. Gooeuy, seaweed type algae in between your toes that goes up past your knees when you step in it! The visibility in the water is zero, but the swim not bad physcially. 3 booeys that form a sqaure with the shoreline and easy to see. I had been training a lot in a lap pool and did one one open water swim, and was prepared for this portion of the triathlon. 11 mile bike: LOVED this route! A few hills, but overall a nice flat ride with pretty views of wine courntry in Livermore/Pleasanton. Traffic is blocked off and we get the road mostly to ourselves. 3 mile run: This was torture for me, it was hot, and there were a few more hills than I expected. But water is provided along the trail, it switched back a lot, but try to follow the chalked in arrows and you will be Ok. The finish line MC was awesome, saying your name and where you are from loud and clear with enthusiasm! I finished in 1hr 32 mins, I timed myself on my watch, but for $15 extra you can request a timing chip. I didn't make my goal of 1.5 hours but was pretty close, and didn't train too much, mostly only for the swimming portion. A check off my bucketlist, and it's local so have to be appreciative to OnYourMark Events to continuing this tradation of Sprint Triathlons in the area. Just wish for better communication and a better swimming location!

The event was well organized, well staffed, had plenty friendly volunteers, and was chipped timed. Post race results and pics were made available immediately after the event and showed your times in each of the 3 disciplines and the 2 transitions. Very useful info for future events and training. The water was warmer than most pools and I never felt cold while swimming in just shorts. Check-in was quick and easy and the morning participant meeting was informative and clarified any questions you might have about the course. Easy parking and decently clean bathrooms. Great event and highly recommended. Liked it so much, I am planning on doing the August event and this time with my wife.
