I came here to ride my bike on a short ride today. I tried to stay on gravel as much as possible since I had the tires for it. For as empty as it was on the paved paths, the rudeness of some visitors is appalling. Nice family friendly park. I've been going to this park since my first born was a baby because we used to live in Livermore. Easy hiking trails. Lots of beautiful spots for pics. Trails are labeled. Bathrooms are clean. Parking is $5 for the day. I like how they have wilderness info signs and have a small area with labeled flora. Decent place for birding. Sycamore was my favorite. I've spent 16 years hiking and mountain biking in this park and they destroyed it by letting the cows in. Whatever deal the struck with the ranchers is a deal with the devil. Shame on them for ruining a beautiful park. I'm ashamed of Livermore for this decision. read more

There are red tail hawks soaring above in the sky which is so amazing to watch. There are two entrances to the park which are 2.5 miles from one another. Great park for running or light hiking! It's mostly flat, but you can hike up in the hills to get more of a workout. It's a short walk from Independence Park if you want to avoid the parking fee. Lovely and green (at this season anyways). At this park, you almost forget that you're in the middle of populous Tri-Valley in the Bay Area in California - the occasional power line reminds you, but otherwise this is a good escape. There's clearly marked trails, almost no incline, and a variety of natural attractions to investigate. Check out the tree with a "hobbit hole", several little creeks, many kinds of trees (including olive, some tree with lots of woodpecker holes in them, cherry blossom trees, and obviously sycamores). I also enjoyed seeing horses and little birds. If you drive and park, you have to pay for parking (they really do check, and often). I love this spot for a good nature walk that's a close drive away. read more

Beautiful place for a hike for families and it's dog friendly. My family enjoyed a sunny, warm January day here and brought Coco for her first hike. This park is located in Livermore near the wineries. Parking was easy in the large lot and cost $5. 5 stars for the clean bathrooms and well maintained trails. The parking lot and the beginning of the trails were busy with people taking family pictures. However, the trails were less busy as we continued. We enjoyed a leisurely walk, my oldest ran and my little Coco loved it too! It also looks like a great place for biking. This park is close to us and easily accessible. Growing up in Livermore, Sycamore Grove is an essential spot for outdoor walks in this quiet little town. It's a great place to come for a nice walk with the family and enjoy scenic views of Livermore's rolling hills and neighboring wineries. I wouldn't call it "hiking" but it makes a great running and bike trail. The path is smoothed and kept up very well, and there are a number of benches along the way to sit down and rest on. Great place for photo ops as well! My favorite time to come here is in the Fall when all the leaves are changing color, or around February/March when everything is green from the winter rains. I saw a lot of families and bicyclists here early in the morning. It's always been a popular spot, so the earlier you come, the better. read more

Very pleasant trails here! Some paved, some dirt trails, so lots of people come biking here too. We had originally planned to go to Del Valle but the parking lot was completely full there. We managed to find some parking here instead but it also gets pretty full so best to get here early in the morning! Trails are easy and flat, so very kid friendly. Dogs also allowed on leash, so you can bring your fur baby along too! It's quite wide so there should be room for you to socially distance as well. As with many trails, you'll see horse poop along the way, so try not to step in that and you're good! Planning to come back another time and explore some more trails! Restrooms available at the parking lot. Make sure to pay for a parking ticket ($5)! A plus is that right across the street is a winery, so you can easily reward yourself with some wine tasting after your hike! read more

Sycamore Gove Park is a fantabulous Park off the beaten path in Livermore! To say this park is a hidden gem probably wouldn't be accurate because it's well-traversed by locals. However, it's a park that really isn't known around the Bay Area. This park has it all: Old trees, a bridge, information charts (nerd high five), paved paths, gardens, clean bathrooms, streams, bike repair station, and...oh, incredible Sycamore Trees. These trees are a photographers' dream and it was not a surprise when I recently saw about five other people with DSLR cameras poking around. This park is an ideal spot for biking, jogging, and photography. The only caveat I would add is that in the summer it's hot as hell but that can be avoided by coming in the morning or dusk anyway. Parking is 5$ at the time of this writing and they have modern payment methods (i.e. the machine takes credit cards). This park should make your East Bay shortlist! read more

I was in the area and had a few hours to kill, so I decided to go for a walk at Sycamore Park. The paved roads and leveled elevation make it an easy walk. I loved the educational "stations" along the trails informing visitors of the park's heritage and wildlife! The park is quiet but feels safe, and great for solo walks. I really enjoyed bike riding on the trails of Sycamore Grove Park. I forgot which trail I followed, but from the entrance, I just kept going straight and following the paved path which is also shared by people walking. This is the place to be if you're into bike riding! I immediately saw so many families, single riders, professional bike riders, and leisure bike riders like me on the trails. The scenery was very dry and yellow looking and the grass looked dead, but I enjoyed the burst of colors from the leaves on the super old looking trees. I bet this place turns very green though during spring time, so I look forward to coming back. We saw a sign before riding onto the bridge that said you are entering mountain lion territory, but we didn't see any that day, but just so you know, you may see some people riding on horses. There is absolutely no shade on the biking trail, so if it was a hot day, you're screwed and better remember to bring a hat that fully covers your face and also wear sunscreen. It was a cool autumn day, so I was fine. There are lots of benches along the biking trail underneath trees where you can take a break and eat your lunch. I also saw people do professional family photo shoots against some cool looking trees. FYI, before you ride out to a winery from these trails, just double check the route on your map! I reserved a wine tasting at 1:30 p.m. at Tenuta Vineyards. My GPS said we were a 10 minute bike ride away, so we followed the directions which took us off the paved path onto a dirt trail which had us up pushing our bikes up a steep hill, which then brought us to the middle of nowhere, but we could see vineyards in the distance, and when we finally rode to the end of the middle of nowhere trail, there was a gate that blocked us from entering the other side to the vineyards and barbed wire everywhere, so it wasn't like I could throw my bike over. Needless to say, I had to cancel my reservation, and eventually walked my bike all the way down the steep hill ever so slowly, so I wouldn't tumble down. It was an adventure, but one that did not lead to wine! Anyways, I happily rode back onto the paved path. Will come again in the spring! ***TIP: You have to pay for parking at the parking lot. I recommend parking in the parking lot of Independence Park instead and then biking over. It only takes 5 minutes. You're welcome! read more

February 1, 2020 Saturday Location: At the end of Vinyard Ave in Livermore, CA Parking : $5 ( purchase tickets at machine ) Nicely paved wide trail big enough for strollers and wheelchairs. Great signage with educational materials for both littles ones and adults. I think it's a great place to introduce nature to the kids , there are tons of songbirds , waterfowl and raptors they can spot with either binoculars or naked eyes. I saw a beautiful good sized blue heron and got to witness it catch a pretty big sized mouse. The heron was patiently waiting, standing still and all of a sudden dove his bill into the ground . Once he caught a mouse , flew off. It was really neat. We saw four black tailed deer crossing the trail just a few meters away from us. They were hanging out in the field and took off behind the bush. On the way back to the trail head , we saw the deer again but this time one of them started hissing and looked ready to charge at us. We weren't really that close to them but quickly left the area. We didn't wanna disturb them. Saw quite a few woodpeckers pecking away at sycamore trees. There was also a hawk but couldn't tell what kind. We saw two great white egrets and one blue heron. A man who was photographing told me that he saw a mountain lion there and an owl last year. Would be neat to see some owls but I'd be scared to see the mountain lions. Some people were riding bikes ( kids and adults ) , having professional photos taken ( looked like engagement pictures), birding ( us) , hiking , running /jogging , photographing , taking strolls , young and old. A great outdoor place for everyone to enjoy. There are clean restrooms at the trail head and a map on the board ( no brochures. Take pic of the map for trails ). There's an old abandoned winery from 1880 , looked kInd of spooky , it's kind of in the shady area because it's standing in front of the hills. We didn't get too close to it. ( I know .. scary cats). We had such a nice time here. I'd love to come back again. read more

Beautiful park. What's not to love? It's got a generous parking area- even room for the horse trailer! The path is flat and paved- makes it easy for everyone. There are also trails to ride if you bring the horse. Lots of wonderful wildlife. We've seen huge fish and crawdad critters in the stream. There are mountain lions, deer, bobcats, all kinds of raptors, skunks, possums, raccoons, rabbits, and all kinds of rodents. You'll definitely see some sort of wildlife if you go out here. It's a heavily used park, so you probably won't be alone- unless you go on Superbowl Sunday. After you finish your walk you can head across the street to one of the best wineries in Livermore- Dante Robere- and reward yourself for your exercise! There are excellent picnic tables at S.G. as well- so it's a nice place to bring the family for a picnic. read more

Not so impressed with this park as others seem to be. When we went it was pretty dry and the dust kicked up a lot. Mostly a flat open area with interior paths through the brush, with both paved and dirt paths. Lots of bikes and so many people not masking up, even when encountering others. I LOVE Sycamore Grove Park. The park has almost doubled in size within the past 15 years (around 850 acres now), and it is now a great destination to spend your day and take a long hike. Dogs are allowed on leash. The rangers also patrol the trails constantly, so please keep your dog on a leash. Also, a warning, be careful if you are walking along the creek. Once my husband did this while checking out the creek, and somehow rubbed against POISON OAK and developed an awful itchy rash. I love going to Sycamore Grove for walks throughout the year. However, you need to be aware of a few things. Livermore is EXTREMELY hot in the summer (in the 90s and possible low 100s), so I do not recommend going in the summer, It is just too hot, and also the park tends to close if it is a very hot day due to fire danger. Instead, I would recommend going there during spring, fall, and winter (in a dry winter day). There are plenty of trails to chose from, some are crowded (like the main trail, which is paved), If you are like me and prefer to be away from the crowds try Cattail Loop, Valley View Loop, and Harrier's trail. Those are the farthest trails, and you will need to go uphill, so come prepared with plenty of water, comfortable shoes and a snack. It is likely that you will be rewarded with some wildlife viewing (I have seen foxes, coyotes and wild turkeys near those trails). There is a fee to park, and the parking lot fills up EARLY. So come early to find parking, or late in the day. The park closes at sunset (So closing time varies during the year, and the rangers are strict about closing time. Also, a tip for parking, if the parking lot is full, you can probably find parking at the nearby Independence Park located off Holmes street. There is a short trail/pedestrian walkway that links Independence park and Sycamore Grove. Parking at Independence park is also FREE and it is a short 5-7 minutes away. To find this pedestrian walkway walk to the South Corner of the park's parking lot and Holmes, and you will see the path. Independence park also has bathrooms, picnic tables, and a children's playground. read more

Our young family loves going to Sycamore Grove Park. The trails are stroller and kid-bike friendly, and there are plenty of tree trunks to clamber on (just watch out for thorns and other sharp objects). We went one evening for a nature walk (organized by Livermore Moms) with Ranger Amy, who showed the kids lots of cool things - like bats, frogs, prairie dogs and other woodland critters - and taught them to observe with their ears, noses and sense of touch, not just their eyes. The parking lot is open till sundown ($5 to park) - the best hours in my opinion are early morning or late evening. Enjoy! read more

The pearl of Livermore! Fantastic trails for any sort of walk, hike, running, cycling, horseback riding. Great for bipeds and quadrupeds. Stay on the paved trail for a 2.5 mile stroll or venture off trail if you have more time and seek beautiful vistas in the Upper Sycamore park. Climb what I affectionately call "The Punisher" if you feel your gams are up for it. Trail's end reward is a gorgeous view of the Livermore Valley, Mount Diablo and Brushy Peak. Support LARPD and invest in a season parking pass! Best bet for wildlife viewing is dusk. Deer, bobcat, barn owls, great horned owls, great blue heron, voles, coyote, snakes, ground squirrels, woodpeckers, kites, red shouldered hawks and more all await your wondering eyes! Want to avoid the $5 parking fee others complain about? Simply park at the street before you enter the park. There are tons of parking spots and we did not have any difficulty. My friend Alexandra used to live in Livermore and still owns a house there very close to this park. So she wanted to check her rental property out while showing me the area and do some work out at the same time. We ended up in this park doing a 5k (walking, it was very hot Sunday) and, coincidentally, there was a 5k run going on and the rangers in the park were awesome, constantly checking on us if everything was OK and if we had enough water supplies. My favorite part in this park was a fairy tale tree, a tree with a window and a back door. This was the perfect spot for the charming picture 'at the forest', for children and adults alike. In general, this is a very beautiful, well maintained park that is very recommendable for walking/running. read more

We love this park so much! My hubby's coworker suggested this place, and we've been here a couple of times. Both times we brought our toddler's bike, and we appreciated the paved way. Biker and walker-friendly. Super clean park, and we love that their bathroom is well maintained. There are many little trails to choose from, and we cannot wait to come back again and explore the other tracks we haven't done. The only downside of this place is the minimal parking lot that they have. Also, they charge $5 for parking which is not bad, but I wish they have more parking spaces. Come here early, or else you'll see the parking full sign. read more

This place is a good place to hike. The main trail is all paved, so it made it easier for joggers and those pushing strollers. Along the paved trail there are also different trails to take but they appeared to be all dirt. They have a drinking water fountains on each end where the entrances are, which was great for our dog also. It costs to park though, so bring cash. read more

As others on here have said, yes, you could park at Independence Park for free and walk over to Sycamore. If you love it so much why wouldn't you park here and support the maintenance of this and other parks in the area? I can't figure that one out. Our parks need your money! This place is great! I have never had a bad experience here with out of control pets and their owners. I have never seen any trash on the ground and complimentary waste (poop) bags are at the entrance. I think people actually use them here. You can choose between the paved five mile round trip out to Veterans Park and back trail or any of the dirt trails in the park. Keep your eyes open for Rattlesnakes, Eagles, Turkeys, Vultures, and the ever present dogs behind the fence. If you have dogs and don't want to have two Border Collies and a German Shepard racing up and down the fence line barking like rabid fools stay away from the area with the fence along the hill and stick to the paved trail. read more

So many different trails you can take and it's beautiful rolling hills all around! We took a paved path from the $5 parking lot so it's good if you have a stroller for your baby or if your kids wanna ride their bikes. I believe masks are mandated at this time.
