We finally decided to check out the Tracy branch library. I've driven by a million times and never…read morechecked it out. The exterior of the library and the surrounding park are fairly nice. There's a rose garden, some really big trees, lots of lawn and an overall relaxing serene feel. When you walk inside, it's apparent that this library needs a face lift. Fluorescent lighting, old carpet and yellowish paint on the walls. All of the computers were caution taped off and out of order. With that said, if you're stopping in for books or a place to sit with your laptop, they seemed to have a good variety of both books, and seating areas. My daughter loved the large dinosaur in the center of the kids section. The perfect enticing addition for a toddler!

The children's section is good sized and colorful. There's a good amount of books and half a dozen computers for kids to learn and play on. Next to the kids area is the community room which was having a Friends of the Library sale, everything was 5 for $1! The selection was big, but the items all quite dated or not really the besr stuff, hence the price hehe. The rest of the library is pretty big too, the adult section is large, I didn't see a teens section but it was probably there. Tons of natural light from the windows up high in the main section. It's a quiet and serene place to read and relax. Only thing is the bathrooms could only be accessed by asking the security guard lady to open it for 1 person to use at a time, 15 minute time limit. But they were clean for that reason, not allowing for open access. Overall, this is a decently good library in Tracy that's part of the San Joaquin-Stockton library system.

Adj: Really nice library in East Bay…read more Never been here before till this summer and I'm so glad we stopped here on the way home after a little trip to South Bay. A pretty big two story library in downtown Brentwood, it's good a bit of everything you need for yourself or your family. There's the front desk with very friendly and helpful library staff, then there's some reference books and media to check out or use on site. First floor towards the inside also has a colorful and (obviously) kids friendly children's section. Upstairs there's several study rooms with large windows that look over the first floor so they're like rooms with a view, pretty cool. There's also tons of books stacks, tables and chairs for reading and studying, and some comfortable lounging sofas too. Along one side there's a long skinny table for sitting and working and it overlooks the first floor like a balcony too, pretty cool design. Overall, this library is architecturally interesting and unique, and is well laid out and a great asset for this community.

Who doesn't love libraries?!…read more This library is our favorite! It is kept clean, organized, and have a wide variety of children's books to choose from. Staff and volunteers are always helpful. As other libraries, this branch also offer self-checkouts and easy drop offs. They they also offer automatic extension for borrowed items and you can also put books on hold if you are waiting on a specific one. I also had a privilege of using one of the conference rooms with other mom friends to help our kids with their homework. Parking is ample and is located in downtown Brentwood, so you can also shop, eat, play and walk around after. If you also want to support the library, one way is to check out their second hand books on the second floor or donate books as well.

I first saw this in the software company I worked at in the 1990's where engineers would start playing online games in the afternoon and the internet slowed to a crawl exactly like what I observed at this library this week. Back in the 1990's it was not possible to control this activity. Now it is. Pleasanton is falling behind. This is not the 1990's! Upgrade your systems! To stop public Wi-Fi from being overwhelmed by heavy gaming, high-definition streaming, or massive background downloads, you don't actually need software installed on individual patron devices. Instead, the standard industry practice is to use network-level management through a Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW) or DNS-based content filtering.

Adj: Retreat for Refreshing the Mind (and Body)!…read more On a sizzling hot summer day when it was nearly 100 even in East Bay, we were glad we were not in Sacramento as it was over 100 and climbing. We had escaped to the coast for the weekend, and spent Sunday night in Dublin so we decided to chill in a local library for part of the day on Monday before heading home. This is a REALLY nice library. I'm easily impressed by nicer public buildings. Our collective tax dollars at work, lol. In any case, this must be a newer building, but according to the City of Dublin, the original library "opened on May 21, 1914, in a small general store at Dublin Boulevard and Donlon Way. Over the decades, it expanded through various community locations before moving to its current 38,100-square-foot modern facility at the Dublin Civic Center in April 2003." So the current location is still over 20 years old, but you wouldn't think so by the looks of it, everything looked very new and well-kept. The lobby is big and welcoming w/library holds and an info-desk with friendly staff. Then there's a whole bunch of larger tables that sit 6-8 people each for reading and a couple rows of computers you can reserve even as a guest. The rest of the left side of the library are adult stacks of all genre, and the right side of the library, taking up almost 1/2 of the whole place was for the kids! It really was a big area w/a story-time reading and play cove towards the back, and then a bunch of shorter bookshelves filled with children's books and then several kids computers towards the children's librarian's desk. I'm glad I got to visit and hang out here for several hours and we even stayed and watched a couple of kids movies in the community room and my kids and I had a great time escaping reality at the library, haha.

Pros: - It keeps its facility cool on the very hot days. - Parking is under solar panels that keep the vehicles cool. Nice that they're also generating energy. - Lots of books to stay entertained with knowledge. - this library is huge and has so many areas to sit and read, study, get work done etc. Cons: - Wi-Fi connection is very spotty at best. Not sure if that's the case often and an ongoing problem or if it's just bc of the heat maybe affecting the Wi-Fi. - not open on Fridays. All in all, a really big, well built and nicely maintained library that surely serves the community well.

My son doesn't go to daycare, so story time is great for him to sit, listen, as well as interact with other children. He loves dinosaurs has gotten to do so many dinosaur themed activities as well as see and pet live animals thanks to the great events this library puts on. They have lots of selections to choose from and if they don't have it in hand, they can locate it for you. They'll notify you once they receive it so you can pick it up. All Contra Costa libraries do and they all swap books. It is so convenient here and very friendly staff.

I've lived in Mountain House for over a decade. It's located in an unincorporated area of San…read moreJoaquin County, just over the eastern border of Alameda County. Everyone has had a different experience, but from where I stand, Mountain House is good as it gets! Why would I say good as it gets? Isn't the commute terrible? There aren't any stores! Your property taxes are high! So it must suck! The answer to all three statements is yes yes yes. But this isn't the fault of Mountain House. Through all the negative press about this being the most underwater town in the country, Mountain House has been an innocent victim. Let me explain. The developer Tri-Mark and retirement fund CALPers are the major landowners and developers in Mountain House. They made a financial investment in this unincorporated city. "Unincorporated" means everything needs to be approved by San Joaquin County. Anything through a County, and not through a City with a mayor, takes longer to approve. LAFCO. Board of Supervisors. In other words, politics. Tri-Mark and CALPers look at this area strictly as a financial investment. Long term holds on land takes patience. And they are being patient in developing commercial property. As a wise poet once said, "Money rules the world around me dolla dolla bill y'all." So to build this area, there was a lot of surveying and planning done in the 1990's. The first homes were built in 2003. Builders bought land from Trimark and CALPers and created subdivision maps and heavy buildout of homes occurred since 2003. And yes people walked away from their homes during the 2008-2013 economic crisis. But this was not isolated to Mountain House. Tracy, Brentwood, Stockton, Lathrop, Manteca, Antioch and many East Bay and Central Valley towns were knee deep in foreclosures. Mountain House is only one of these towns. To call Mountain House the most beautiful underwater city does not tell the full story. This was happening regionally! The commute up and down the Altamont Pass and through Livermore is getting worse. Why? Probably because more people are moving to the Central Valley! Not only Mountain House, but to Tracy, Lathrop, Manteca and Ripon. Can't blame this solely on Mountain House. Commuting is a reality for anyone living here and working in the Bay Area. Silver lining is Mountain House is the first town off the freeway. Yes, even closer than Tracy! And yes the Wicklund Market is the only retail in town. But that's not fair. Tracy is so close! For those in Alameda, Union City, Brentwood. how long does it take you to run errands? I know it takes longer or the same amount of time as us Mountain House residents! Are property taxes high here? Yes. But put this in perspective. Everything is new. Streets. Gutters. Lamp posts. Street signs. And yes schools! The Mountain House schools are vibrant with activity. Enrollment is increasing and youth and parents alike are heavily involved in school activities. Good or bad? I say good. Healthy parent involvement helps the schools maintain a high quality educational system. My property tax bill is about 1.8% of my assessed value. Yikes to some, but that's part of living in a new community. Loans were taken out and bonds issued to provide the "new ness", so homeowners pay high property taxes, for better or worse. But surprise! Since 2013, Mountain House has recovered from the economic crisis. Today in June 2016, more families are moving in at a higher rate than those leaving. Yes people are leaving, selling their homes and moving to Tracy, River Islands and Brentwood. But more people are moving into Mountain House! How do I know? Enrollment at all the schools are increasing! New families are upset their kids can't go to the school of their choice. This means more people are buying homes here. This means Mountain House is growing. I just hope people bought these homes within their budget. So why 5 stars when to the casual observer it's like I'm justifying every reason the perceived negatives aren't so bad? Well, every town has its political issues. Berkeley. Piedmont. Oakland. Stockton. Alameda. Mountain House is typical of every California city! For me, the schools are the backbone of Mountain House. It feels like a small town, which I loooove. Everyone knows or knows of everyone in this town. We feel our family is safe. People look out for each other here. For those from the Midwest, Mountain House has the small town, Midwestern pride one feel when a town struggles through adversity. The town is 40 minutes away from everything. Far enough from the Bay Area madness, but not too far away for a day trip. Home values have stabilized higher than Tracy and the rest of the Central Valley, but not as ludicrous as the Tri-Valley (Livermore, Dublin, Pleasanton). Once you drive and walk through Mountain House, it really doesn't get any better than this. Really. You just have to know what you are walking into. It's not perfect, but it's a California town worth 5 stars.

The City of Mountain House, located in San Joaquin County is considered one of the most recently…read moreestablished and newest cities in the state of California. Driving through Mountain House, one of the things that stands out is the modernization of the area. You don't really find vintage businesses or historical sites, which hints that this area must of sprouted from vasts of rural land recently developed perhaps in the last few years. It certainly has great potential and opportunity for growth. The only surprise, which honestly shouldn't be, is the skyrocketing real estate prices on the recently built homes in this area. Other than that, it's a nice place to stop by on your way to Tracy.
