I first saw this in the software company I worked at in the 1990's where engineers would start playing online games in the afternoon and the internet slowed to a crawl exactly like what I observed at this library this week. Back in the 1990's it was not possible to control this activity. Now it is. Pleasanton is falling behind. This is not the 1990's! Upgrade your systems! To stop public Wi-Fi from being overwhelmed by heavy gaming, high-definition streaming, or massive background downloads, you don't actually need software installed on individual patron devices. Instead, the standard industry practice is to use network-level management through a Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW) or DNS-based content filtering.

The librarians and staff are always kind, friendly, welcoming, professional, and dedicated. The library offers a wide variety of wonderful programs, such as Family Story Time and Crafts, Chess, Book Club, and many others. Three years ago, as an ESL learner, I joined the Speak Up English Language Conversation Group. It has made a tremendous difference in improving my English speaking skills. The librarians, Dean and Ann, have provided us with so much guidance and support. Dean, in particular, carefully prepares practical and engaging learning materials before every session, making each class both useful and enjoyable. I truly love this program. Not only has my English improved significantly, but I have also become much more confident. Through Speak Up, I have made many good friends, learned about the lives and cultures of people from different countries, and developed a deeper understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity.

The WIFI is terrible here. There are 2 WiFi's one of them (CCCLIBRARY) you cannot connect to it,…read morebut the other one (SR_Library_Guest) you can. Fast.com clocked the WiFi at 3-4 Mbps and that was at 10:05am in the morning on a weekday where I was the only visitor. This is really unacceptable (I know it's free but even then it's useless). If WiFi is important to you don't come here. The other nearby libraries (San Ramon downtown and Dublin) are way faster!! Also the tables were disgustingly dirty. Bring your own wipes!

She walked around for 2 hours in here on Sunday, June 29, 2025. We also stopped in the cafe and got a Chai Latte which was really refreshing. The cafe is really nice. If you're lucky you can get a table. The tables are hard to come by as so many people get a drink and peruse a book or magazine for hours and occupy a table. We were lucky and got a table, so we sat there a little while drinking our drink and discussed a couple of books. Then we went back to the store and shopped around a little. There is so much to see in this store. She found 2 books that she wanted to get, The Orient Express by Agatha Christy (I haven't read the book, but love the movie) and another book, but in the end they settled on getting a game for my parents. The box looked intriguing, but when we opened the box at my parents house it turned out to be a complicated game. We'll have to study the directions and play it another time. We were tired by the time we made it to their house. I found a great book too. It was the unofficial guide to Disney World 2025. They have a new one that comes out in August 2025 for the 25-2026 year, so this one should be on sale soon. I was going to get it, but decided it wait to ensure we're really going to Disneyworld first. I don't want to do all this planning if we aren't going. The book is as thick as a dictionary. Apparently, there is a lot you need to know before you go. I'm excited for our trip and a bit overwhelmed. I look forward to our next trip to Barnes and Noble and finding more books and treasures. They also have a toy and gift section.

I like this area because it is actually quiet and there are outlets right on the table. The wi fi is easy to access and is not slow. There are available study rooms to reserve. I would not suggest reserving one if you are looking for a quiet space (in case it does get loud in the main area) because the walls are thin and you can hear others speaking in the rooms next to you. I'd say that it is good to reserve for a group study session or if you need a whiteboard with the necessary dry erase markers. The location is really good because it's within walking distance to coffee shops and restaurants in case you need to grab a coffee before starting to study or need to take a break and get something to eat. There is plenty of parking in the parking garage!

I thought I was cool. For some reason I was drawn to the piece of art at the end of the aisle on the wall. Someone had made little square origami pieces out of recycled comic-book pages, with a pebble in the middle of each square. What a creative idea that was. I don't talk to anyone because I do not have social skills. I was looking for a Harry Potter book, and the location pointed me to the first floor, where the children's books are (that was the only time I went into that section). I was never much of a reader. But within the last two years I have read so many books (30-40 books is a lot for me, okayyyy). Now I cannot go a day without reading a book. The restrooms are really clean--really, really clean. I used to dry my hands by waving them quickly through the air dryer. Now I go very slowly, as if my car is going through the last part of an automatic car wash, where the car moves slowly so the dryer can gently push the water away.

DVC-San Ramon is one of several places to make online appointments for the vaccine in Contra Costa County for ages 16+. LOCATION and PARKING The main admin building is on East Campus, right off Watermill Rd. Follow the traffic circle and signs toward parking for COVID19 vaccines. I wound up parking near the Dougherty Station Library and Acorn Learning Center, which is a short walk to the main entrance. APPOINTMENT LINE They'll line you up outside every 6-feet in groups according to your appointment time that you got from the Contra Costa County Health Services "Mychart" app. Very organized and they had two volunteers/staff members there to give instructions and answer questions. REGISTRATION This is in one of the rooms with over half-dozen stations where they'll ask for you ID and insurance card. One scary thing is that they may ask for SSN and Mother's Maiden Name. Yikes. I would recommend declining to answer. Afterwards, my cousin who's a pharmacist said this info is for folks without insurance. The clinic needs to recover costs by billing the government. But still, SSN is a bit too sensitive. They didn't ask me but I did hear folks at other stations get asked. VACCINES This is done in a separate room, and the nurse I had was great - funny and good at putting you to ease. I got the Pfizer vaccine and the process is quick and painless. All those daily Turkish Getups really beefed up my shoulders, LOL. OBSERVATION The last part of the process is to pick one of the "classrooms" and just hang out for 15 mins before leaving. Each room had a nurse who will wipe down the chairs as folks leave. They also have an oxygen tank just in case. Overall a pretty smooth process and well-run operation. Lines moved quickly. The nice thing is your second vaccine appointment is automatically scheduled for you, although you can use the Mychart app to change if needed. 3-6 weeks needed for Pfizer, while 4-6 weeks out for Moderna.

Don't underestimate the faculty at DVC simply because it's a community college. A lot of the professors here are research experts in their discipline, coming from prestigious universities like UC Berkeley. Some of them realize how important it is to fulfill education within CC students as well. I feel that I've made closer, supportive relationships with DVC professors compared to my professors at UCSB. I highly recommend visiting this campus if you want intrapersonal connections with your peers and mentors as it's a tight knit, small campus compared to the one in Pleasant Hill. Additionally, my tuition for the first two years was reimbursed including a lot of school expenses compensated for through the COVID-19 emergency grant which they no longer do. Going to DVC has saved me so much money, regained my confidence in higher education, and gave me the opportunity to meet great people, find my higher potential, and transfer into one of my dream universities. Even though I spent only 1 quick semester in-person due to COVID, I had an awesome experience. I am truly grateful for the time I had at DVC and now that I graduated with a bachelors I reflect on this. If I ever want to take any class for fun or take prerequisites for grad school, med school, law school etc. I could always come back here! Even though the class goes past my bedtime from 6pm-10pm every Tuesday evening, I jumped on this opportunity to learn a new skill. This welding class is an introduction to TIG and MIG welding. These two processes are widely used in manufacturing industries. The course consists of lecture time and hands on shop time with an instructor for each session located in state of the art building 3500.
