Since we shop here often, I use my VIP Rewards points when making purchases (I highly recommend signing up for their rewards program). Utilizing the VIP rewards program, three pairs of shoes for him often equal or are less than a single pair of shoes for me (yes I am a little fancy - please don't judge me)! I bought three pairs of shoes in 2023 and they were all flip flops. I haven't bought shoes in person for years but ordered online. I felt it was time to go back to brick and mortar for my first big shoe shopping foray in quite a while. I brought my Dad who needed new shoes also with me. This location is right on the corner of Bruceville and Laguna in Elk Grove in the large shopping center anchored by Target. There is ample parking and you can locate the store by a large noodle restaurant and a Ross. It had been years since I had gone to a DSW and this location was a big upgrade from the one I'd been to in Reno, NV. It's less of a warehouse and more like a really huge self-serve shoe store. They even have carpet, soft lighting, and ample seating to try on your choices. A big switch from the concrete floor and warehouse lighting of the store I'd visited years ago. Once I got Dad settled, I went to the women's area. There were so many shoes, and a nice size range for most choices. There is also a lot of discounts with price points from high 20's to mid 100's. The store was very well organized, and has a large kids' section. I tried on some flats and then on a whim tried on some suede Doc Martens that I loved. Don't be alarmed, the higher priced shoes are only one in the box in the store floor and an associate will need to get you the matching pair in the storeroom. As I told you, it's been years since I've been in a shoe store so I needed to get with the program! The purchase itself went smoothly and I received a 20% discount for joining DSW rewards. The lady who helped me was very efficient, pleasant, and helpful. They have a 90 day return policy if the shoes are in their original box and are only worn indoors. They also have an order online/store pickup option. Turns out my Dad found two pairs and now has a great pair of high-tops and Adidas slides. I am updating my review from over 10 years ago. I am really disappointed with this company. First, my rewards are not accurately being calculated. Several calls to their customer service have not gotten it resolved. I recently ordered online to both my house & to the store . I soon received an email that the shoes arrived at the store, but when I went in to pick them up, the clerk claims they are not there. I call back a few days later after I keep getting multiple messages that they are in the store. Clerk again says they are not there but later is able to locate them. Finally, the shoes I ordered online arrive after a week. They are the wrong ones, not the shoes that I ordered. I had ordered them to wear for New Years and the correct ones would arrive too late. No real service recovery attempts or apologies for repeated inconveniences. I wish MJM shoes were still in business. read more

First, I must say that I am not an avid shoe shopper. I prefer to buy online and save time. So, I ordered 2 pairs of shoes from DSW to try. I felt their selection of wide width shoes was somewhat limited but I wanted to try them out and when they arrived, the shoes were terrible. They were definitely not wide and the boxes were torn and smashed. Usually I would not bother but since it was a lot of money, I returned them to the store and tried shopping on my own. I was greeted by Esperanza right when I walked in and I was able to do a return. She gave me store credit and I took a look around. The store was clean and well organized and I was able to find a pair of shoes that were comfy that I was happy with. Elaine helped us check out and I must say that both employees were friendly, helpful and patient which I really appreciated. Overall I had a good experience at this store and was impressed by their offerings. I will still probably shop online for the most part but after seeing their in-store selection (and lots of other little gifts and items they offer) and especially after the great service I received, I would recommend them and definitely come back if I needed something right away. read more

Had to pick up a birthday gift for our one year old niece. This DSW is just like all the other locations -- huge floor plan, lots of options for everyone and for any occasion, and competitive pricing. This store is practicing COVID19 guidelines to operate in that face coverings are required, hand sanitizers are offered at just about every aisle, and social distancing signs are plastered all over the place. I have never noticed that DSW also sells accessories for the ladies like purses, scarves, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, etc. Good place to pick up nylon stockings and socks too. Ordered a pair of dress shoes online that were supposedly in stock. The online information stated that when I ordered my items would be ready by 4 to pickup. So I drove 40 minutes from Folsom to pick up the shoes at 4:30 from the online order area, which is right next to the registers. Only to wait there about 15 minutes with no assistance from any of the sales associates, so I eventually got the attention of one of them for assistance. While I waited there before being helped I noticed that my order wasn't on the rack, which would have been on the rack by the last name. So when the associate who was helping went to look she couldn't find it either and had to look in the system and shoe area, only for her to come back after 5-10 minutes to tell me the shoes I ordered were actually out of stock. I asked her why wasn't that noted either when I ordered the shoes, or in the last 2.5 hours since the order was placed. So that I didn't waste my time driving 40 minutes there for no reason? She obviously didn't have an answer, and my question was more rhetorical and out of frustration. But then she asked if I might want a "similar" pair of shoes and went to check the style and color....only to come back with a shoe that was a completely different color, and in a size that was either TWO SIZES TOO SMALL or TWO SIZES TOO BIG! I looked at her honestly puzzled and asked her if I ordered a shoe in a size 10.5, why would I want a size 8 or 12 to which she didn't have a response to. And I told her to just cancel the order and walked out. I get it isn't the associates fault for a horrible online ordering system. But her attempt to alleviate the situation with her suggestions, just didn't make any sense and left me with more of my time wasted. read more

My work dress shoes have seen better days. They soldier on and if asked so much of them. Normally, I would let nature run its course but today they get to rest. With another family event coming up I figure it was time to get a decent pair of shoes for the whole family. Target just wouldn't do this time and since I seem to find myself here often to grab the kids shoes I decided to give it a try for me. First thing I noticed that the men section is comparatively small to the other sections but not surprising really. There was still a wide variety and a a nice clearance section for my size 12-13 giant feet, specifically the big toe. They have set up Covid precautions such as arrows that try to enforce social distancing. Unfortunately this also leads to a closed restroom which forced us to walk down to the target. Unfortunate but that's how it is sometimes. They also have a VIP club program which I decided to join this time to enjoy some of the perks available. Despite spending almost $300 on shoes for my wife and I, we were extremely disappointed with the lack of cleanliness. Upon entering the store (smudgy glass windows upon store opening!) and while shopping in the store, it appeared that the store was never recovered from the prior days business. Secondly, the sole cashier was waiting on a long line of customers which made me glad that more than often we order from online retailers. I love DSW! When first started shopping here, I can remember that there wasn't many brand names featured. Some, but now I see Cole Haan, Sperry, TOMS, Bobs, Calvin Klein, Doc Martens, etc. Some people have mentioned that when they shop, their size is never available. Well, as someone with like an "average" size of "8" I can say that my size is generally the most popular and picked thru, YET..... can still find a wide variety of styles, and shoes to try on in-store. Most recently, we were looking for boots to complete Halloween costumes and found a pair for pricey $70. At first glance, thought- that is steep for a shoe that is going to be worn for a costume; but it fit well, looked great, size was available. After the cashier used a website coupon $10 off specific amount; then my annual $10 off...and yet another coupon.... I literally left the store paying only $43! That's a bargain! DSW is like any other retail store.....it's going to always have that good day/bad day. I was very sad when this former "Border's Books" store went out of business, but when it eventually turned into a DSW Shoe Warehouse, my sadness was consoled a little. Let's face it, most women LOVE shoes! So I couldn't wait to visit this store and see what they had to tempt my pocket book! I had a good reason to check them out because I needed some pretty shoes to go with a plum evening gown that I planned on wearing to my nephew's wedding. As I entered the store, I was in awe at the aisles upon aisles of shoes in so many styles, designs, colors and comfort levels from dressy to athletic to casual type shoes. I tried to keep my excitement level down and remained somewhat skeptical that I might not be able to find something that would fit comfortably and still look sexy. You see, after many years of wearing high heels most of my life, I developed a painful and unsightly bunion on my right foot. High heels actually ruined my feet to the point that most dress shoes are too uncomfortable to wear. I tried on so many styles in hopes that a specific type of sandal would actually look good on my feet instead of embarrassing, but to no avail. While on the subject of shoes, this review reminded me of the late great comedian Joan Rivers who recently passed away. During her last TV appearance, she was on the "Celebrity Apprentice." There was a challenge for the contestants to promote Ivana Trump's new shoe line. Miss Rivers cracked a joke by asking if they carried a size 6 1/2 in bunion. That joke stuck in my mind and actually made me feel less self conscious about the issues with my feet! Don't get me wrong, I loved the shoes they had at DSW! If I was young and carefree again, I'd be a continued customer. Won't be shopping here again. Giving 1 star because I was able to find what I was looking for. Other than that, I was never greeted by any staff. Upon checking out I let the sales associate know this was my first time shopping here and asked if there were any current ads or coupons out. She told me about the rewards program and told me I could always bring my receipt in the next day for a price adjustment on my order. So I signed up. I came back in today with my receipt and the rewards pamphlet the associate gave me. This sales associate looked lost when I explained to her what I was told. She grabbed some one else.. i'm assuming a manager? Any way, that lady came over and was immediately standoffish to me. I'm not sure why. The store manager went above and beyond, opened an hour early so we could have a private shopping experience and had holiday themed masks, bottled water and madelines to snack on. I went and purchased a pair of sandals from DSW today. They were on the sale rack and the box was pretty ragged with the lid ripped off of the top. When I went to purchase the shoes, I told the salesperson that I did not want the ragged box. She stated that if I don't take the box, I will not be able to return the shoes for any reason without the box. I stated to her that I don't keep shoe boxes in my home, my shoes go on shelves. I also inquired as to if there was a problem with the shoe could I not bring them back for a refund with my receipt or get a credit without the box. Can you believe her manager was standing right there and said no, we are enforcing a new policy that all shoes have to be returned with the box. I even asked them to find me another box that wasn't torn up and they stated they did not have any extra boxes. The sales person asked me if I wanted a bag and I said yes. She stated just for your information, we will not be providing bags in the near future. You will have to bring your own bag. I never really shopped at DSW, but after my experience here, this will now be my go to place to buy shoes/heels! I did an online order for curbside pick up, but decided to go inside to shop around a little to see if there's any cute shoes that I didn't see online, and boy do they NOT disappoint. Their show selection is HUGE and due to the pandemic they keep the store SUPER clean. They even have a try on station where if you are to try on a pair they sanitize it right after if you end up not liking it. I was also helped by an employee name Lucas and he is so helpful and sweet. Normally shopping at retail places you don't get the best service, but 10000% Lucas gave nothing but A1 service. I was so happy when they first opened the DSW in Arden, and ecstatic when the Elk Grove location opened up near me. The good: If you've never been here before, they have adult shoes in rows, divided first by gender then by style. Mostly women's shoes, although they also carry accessories and (online) kids shoes. Usually what's in stock is on the floor. This location is always clean, with great service. The sales section is in the back and selection varies. I think the Roseville location probably has better variety on clearance, but I come here because it's more convenient. Good to know: Sign up for DSW rewards and get coupons mailed to you. I can read all the reviews, get a good idea of what's hot and what's not and lessen my risk of being an unhappy shoe camper. Three, no gas! I don't have to spend any gas money to drive there! Unless I do a return, which does happen on occasion. Four, the 1 day shipping. Free shipping for orders above $35, I believe. If u are VIP, if its a Friday order depending on time of order, it may come on Monday though. Understandable, no one likes to work on Sundays. Or Saturdays. Or ever. Small selection, but they have them. Lol. The store looked clean and organized. Not bad for a Sunday rush day!! They do have great sales at times...we picked up a pair of Nike shoes for $30 in the sale section. The people who work at this location are quite friendly. I like how I don't have to chase after people for my size as all the shoes are out on the floor. My only complaint? I was so excited when I found out we were going to get a DSW in Elk Grove! I have been enjoying this store ever since it opened so my review has been long over-due. Although their shoes are pretty pricey, I love how affordable the clearance section is, hence the name "clearance section." This section has shoes from sizes 5-11 I believe and I always get sucked into buying a couple pairs since they are so affordable. I get their reward emails as well and those are great to save me some money as well. A couple months ago, I walked out of this store with 5 pairs of shoes and I only spent 60 bucks! I was in shock and very excited. The shoes are always great quality and the heels are also very comfortable depending on the type you buy. Large store with a great selection of pretty much anything you could want: mens and womens shoes, sandals, athletic shoes, boots, etc etc. The clearance selection if fairly large but unfortunately for men though, it is very limited. The store is big and spread out so there is plenty of room to move around and its not crowded. Prices are reasonable and the clearance sales are pretty good. Customer service is very nice but I feel that they need more people on the sales floor to assist customers. read more
