Outside is plain and unpretentious. Inside is old fashion fancy. We heard about there BOGO Tue prime rib and Thur ribeye specials. 4 of us came in Thur to celebrate a friend's birthday. The meal was huge. I took most of it home so that I do not overeat. I thought the quality was average.

Prime Rib

5/5 for all categories! We been here twice now for both their prime rib and ribeye special! The food was excellent, I would recommend the gratin potatoes as a side. The ribeye was cooked to perfection - great flavor, very moist, and a super generous portion. The lobster tail was SO tender, for such a large tail you would think it would be tougher but it wasn't! Alan and our server, Sarina, were wonderful. Great service and food, would highly recommend you give it a try!

Not included tip

Very disappointed experience I was really disappointed with my experience at Drying Shad Restaurant. We paid 70$ for a ribeye steak, and it was burn, also 70$ for the prim rib and specifically requested rare plus but it came out medium and the clam-chowder tasted like creamer mushrooms The old fashion cocktail was also far too sweet. Overall the food was poorly prepared, messy, and not up to the quality I expected for the prices. Unfortunately this experience was not worth the money. 8/08/2026

Came here with the family on a Tuesday evening to enjoy their prime rib special. Having grown up in East San Jose, we were disappointed in ourselves for not having visited sooner. It is literally a hole in the wall up the McKee foothills. The ambiance was set like many old school steak houses a little dark and dreary, but still cute. No natural light. Seating booths were cool looking very nostalgic feel. My husband and I ordered the prime rib meal for two special. Came with a side salad, steamed mixed vegetables, baked potato, and condiments like sour cream, butter, ranch and horseradish. We heard from others house wine came with it but we were never offered. Saw other tables get the house carafe, so I'm not sure. We didn't mind either way. Note, there is no kids menu but the server offered chicken tenders and fries for the kiddos which was great. If you're looking to fulfill a prime rib dinner and is in the heart of East San Jose, this is the place to be. Nicely prepared dinner. The only downside we can share is the host/server (only 1 person) may have had a bad day. She wasn't the most pleasant or enthusiastic person there that night. I would recommend they staff appropriately so staff isn't overwhelmed as she appeared to be. It took about 1hr to get the check, but we planned for that while enjoying our wine. We went early thankfully, but saw a crowd start piling up in the entrance as we were leaving at about 630. Rating should be a 3.5 star. Good food, room for improvement on the hospitality side.

The Drying Shed restaurant is the most amazing steak and seafood restaurant in San Jose Al, owner, server, restauranteur uses high quality ingredients that are perfectly prepared. He also paired our food choices with a couple of delicious wine recommendations. My son's birthday was honored by Al and his lovely staff. It was a fantastic evening.

The drying shed is way better than mastros and better than henrys. Service 10. Food 10. Atmosphere 10. Value per dollar 10. Its a 10 / 10 for all cadegories. After going here every other place will just fall short. Idk why this place only has a 3/5 stars. It should have 6/5. It was really cool being able to show this place off to my mom on her trip here. Im literally gonna miss The Drying Shed when I move away. This is literally the only place I trust enough to order custom plates and Market Price without explicit price beforhand. Its great value and like really top notch chow.

It's been a min since we've had dinner at the Drying Shed. It was a busy night as there was a Xmas party going on when we arrived. The speakers were high, so we heard all the singing, dancing etc. It was fine, actually. We were entertained. Our rib-eyes were topped w/ sautéed mushrooms, accompanied by a baked potato, veggies and a salad. Soooo good! Steaks were 15 oz so it was plenty to take home. We'll be back. It's the local fav steak house. Parking is easy w/ the parking lot.

OMG; this place was awesome! I saw an add on FB. Said, 2 prime rib dinners for $69.95. I pay less in a Nevada casino, but I still believe this was an amazing experience. I would totally do it again. The ambiance was wonderful. The staff amazing and above all the food was extremely well plated and delicious. I do not drink wine as I'm allergic. I was only drinking water. When I asked the server for a refill of water; she brought a pitcher, filled my glass & then left the pitcher. I thought that was very considerate. All the employees we dealt with were extremely cordial. I even had leftovers.

Tuesday special prime rib is the greatest can't get that anywhere for the flavor price Great service take a picture though

Everything was amazing!

For the price of the prime rib special on Tuesday it is well worth it! Definitely would be coming back! It was phenomenal! Gave a mini loaf of bread! Definitely a must try!

Prime rib night at the drying shed for 2. Generous portions with wine pairing. Depending on the day, your food will come out quickly or will take a long time but the the wine I'd served almost immediately. Spacious venue with romantic dim lighting Only down side is lack of cellular reception in the venue.

Salted caramel cheesecake... excellent! It was better than Cheesecake Factory

We sat outside and enjoyed over a few cocktails, sushi bites, Fork & Knife Caesar, and their 16oz Bone-in Ribeye. Everything was perfect. I'd like to specifically thank Gabriela for doing such a great job with her customer service and treating us like such important guests. She's attentive and also knowledgeable about the menu. We loved their steak! This is one of the best rib-eye steaks I've had up to date. I can taste the grill and also the texture is tender and buttery. Heads up, they don't have steak sauce because they don't need it!! The steak is perfect on its own literally. I recommend changing their scalloped potatoes for mashed potatoes instead. I paired this with their Hero Espresso Martini; it was super light tasting and creamy. No punch at all which is nice. Me and my wife love Hero Ranch and will definitely come back again soon. Thank you again Gabriela!

Unfortunately, all the other dishes were underwhelming and over seasoned. We'll be back to celebrate the next milestone and the corkage policy is the behind-the-scenes MVP! The first thing I was struck by was the smoky bbq smells and prompt greeting / service. Sounds like it's usually busy but we got lucky to walk in with a minimal wait. For drinks there are a ton of beers on draft. Lots of liquor options. Authentic sports memorabilia on display throughout. TVs in the front and back playing local sports teams or other major night games. Foods: there was this buttered bread that came with the table and some sauce that was tomato comfort in a bowl. We got the chicken and rib combo plate with an extra salad. Could totally eat here family style or order your own plate. Chicken was perfectly crispy. Ribs were consistent - not over or under done. Just right. Loved the side baked potato too. Do a post meal walk and check out all the murals outside! I'd definitely come back to watch football again!

Definitely an upscale elevated version of a family restaurant, including the warm hospitality and generous portion sizes. The decor and size of the restaurant were awesome too, and great for all sorts of celebrations. Large comfortable waiting area as well. Everyone from the host, to server, runners, and bussers provided exceptional hospitality and service. Food was well balanced and flavorful, with good plating Steak and sides were decadent and tender and flavorful in all the ways you want steak and carbs to be. The Brussels salad ended up being a sleeper hit and great palette cleanser throughout the meal. Cauliflower was lowkey S tier, crispy, saucy but still light. An absolutely terrible experience from beginning to end…read more Celebrating my wife's birthday here was one of the worst decisions we could have made. The evening started with us being made to wait 15-20 minutes, despite there being multiple empty tables. We were then seated at what appeared to be the farthest and most isolated corner of the restaurant. I specifically asked the manager, Kevin, if we could be seated somewhere else. His response was that the other tables were reserved for "regulars." Apparently, being a paying customer on a birthday isn't quite enough to qualify for a decent table. What made it worse was that many of those tables appeared to remain empty throughout our visit. When we asked again, Kevin didn't even bother coming over to speak with us. He simply sent someone else. That was a great way to start a birthday dinner. Then there is the restaurant's claim that it has a "business formal" dress code. That was probably the funniest part of the evening. I watched a man walk in wearing torn jeans and a hoodie. I also saw another guest wearing a hoodie. So apparently "business formal" means whatever the restaurant decides it means when someone walks through the door. But the seating and dress code would have been easy to overlook if the food had been worth it. It wasn't. I have been fortunate enough to eat at some of the best Italian and French restaurants around the world. This was easily one of the most disappointing dining experiences I have had. The restaurant has all the appearance of a place that expects to be taken very seriously. Unfortunately, the food did absolutely nothing to justify it. We decided to skip the appetizers and order only entrées. Looking back, thank goodness we didn't order more. My wife's entrée was so excessively salty that it was practically inedible. We had to send it back. The restaurant then brought out complimentary arancini as an apology. I couldn't even get through the first bite. We were then given something else that appeared to be some kind of cornbread. At that point, the entire dinner had become almost absurd. A restaurant charging the kind of prices associated with an upscale dining experience should not be serving an entrée that is excessively salty and then following it up with terrible aranchini. For a place that seems to put so much importance on its image, the actual experience was remarkably far from what you would expect. If you want to spend your money waiting to be seated, being treated as though you're less important because you're not a "regular," sitting in the corner, watching the restaurant selectively enforce its own dress code, and sending back food because it is either excessively salty or undercooked, then by all means, come here. Otherwise, save your money and go somewhere that actually cares about the food and the people paying for it. We came here to celebrate my wife's birthday. Instead, we spent the evening wondering why we chose this restaurant in the first place. Never again.
