We began our tasting with viognier before journeying into the cave to sip their 2018 Unoaked Chardonnay (alongside their 2018 Chardonnay- personal preference for their unoaked Chard), 2028 Pinot noir (Sonoma coast and Bootleggers- prefer Sonoma coast), 2018 Zinfandel and 2018 red (Bordeaux) blend. Ended up purchasing a bottle of their Sonoma Coast Pinot and Red blend. Would definitely return to sample (with a clear palette!) their robust and diverse wine collection! I had stopped by with a couple of friends about two or three weeks ago, and the entire experience was so memorable that I cannot stop thinking about it. The three of us happened upon this hidden gem after being turned away from another winery, and Kyle was happy to accomodate for our sudden arrival. Both during the tour and our tasting, we learned plenty about the unique wines DRNK provides. Even though I am not one for a drier wine, the Pinot Noirs were very much enjoyable. Kyle was also very helpful in providing some insight into the wine business, as I am a local student studying wine business. We even had the opportunity to meet the local vineyard manager! We were referred here by a friend in the industry. I was in the area on a day by myself so I decided to see if I could get an appointment. They were able to bring me in. I got their and I was met by Anna who took time out of the busy wine making process to introduce me to their wines. Let me tell you, these wines are AMAZING! We started with the whites out on the patio. Two Pinot Gris (which I, suprisingly, loved) a beautiful Viognier and a quite stunning Chardonnay. We moved into the wine tasting to try the reds. Some truly anazing pinots in a great price range! A delicious malbec and a syrah that I can't get enough of. The wine cave was so fun getting to see the process up close. I couldn't leave without joining the club. Only a 6 bottle commitment twice a year. I left with 8 bottles. I came back with friends and my partner. Anna helped us again and had a wonderful time! My friends were truly impressed and we all left with about 20 bottles of wine. I can't say enough how much we loved DRNK. I think this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship! read more

Had family in town visiting Santa Rosa for the weekend and wanted to do some exploring in Sebastopol and drink wine. We were searching for a place that wasn't too crowded (as a lot of the tasting rooms in the Barlow were pretty full), low key, relatively priced, and allowed walk ins. I stumbled upon DRNK on Yelp and decided to head there after reading reviews. We were greeted by Kyle who was the only staff member there but you wouldn't have known it as he was super attentive and jovial. He led us on a cave tour which included a tasting of Chardonnay and was very informative on the process of how DRNK creates their wine. Afterwards we headed to the patio for the remaining of our tasting and had a fantastic time! Kyle handed us our flights of reds and talked about each wine and left us to discuss the wines. Our group loved the Pinot, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Honestly all the wines are delicious even the whites -- this coming from someone who only drinks reds. Though it is a small winery it has big, bold wines! Kyle was great and we really enjoyed his company and would highly recommend DRNK! We definitely will come back. read more

We are a group of friends that meet every few weeks to go and taste wines in the Sonoma Napa area. this time we decided to go to Sebastopol area. We came across DRNK winery, a new winery that opened last year. When we called to coordinate a tasting, Ryan the owner and winemaker answered the call, LOCAL & PERSONAL just what we love - already I had a good feeling about this place. When we arrived Ryan gave us a personal tour of the winery, and the wine making process - the winery is inside a cave and there is a special atmosphere around. When we set down for the tasting, Ryan gave us more explanation about the rigen and the grapes, and we tasted some of his pinot & chardonnay, and the wines were very good. So... We called on a whim for a same day appointment, and Ryan Kunde answered the phone, and was nice enough to accommodate us that afternoon. This is a relatively new winery with no real tasting room, however they are lucky enough to have a cave in the hillside. After a very nice sampling of the whites available, mostly poured by Ryan himself, we headed into the cave with Nick to taste the reds. What a cool experience! Ryan Kunde is from a very long line of Sonoma winemakers, but it was interesting to hear how he is doing his own thing with wine. The wine is fantastic and for the price its an absolute must for anyone really interested in wine. Getting to enjoy a conversation with the winemaker, especially one with such ties to the area, was a great treat. Highly recommended! read more

This is one of the very few wineries in the Russian River Valley that has a wine cave. It is one of the few that the entire production (from receipt of grapes through finished wine) is all done within the cave. It is just past the Lynmar Estate Winery, and tucked behind (and underneath) a hill. First time I went here I came with my wine buddy and we were very enthused about visiting but didn't check ahead to if it was open to the public or by appointment only. (oops!) We get there and hear some nice soft rock and acoustic jazz coming from behind the large metal doors of the cave. We walk in and follow the echoing music past chambers of tanks and equipment. Just about then we figure we probably shouldn't be in there looking for someone we turn to leave. Then we were spotted by the winemaker, a nice looking young man, who greeted us and welcomed us to the winery. He was ecstatic to show us around and gave us a wonderful tour of his wine cave and his entire operation. He is a one man show and very proud of his operation, with good reason. The winemaker is none other than Ryan Kunde (yes, of the famous Kunde wine family.) I was impressed to see a young vintner in the business. From my experience and travels it is a rarity to find someone in their 20s making wine, let alone really good stuff. The winery is partnership between the Dougherty and Kunde families and is named for the members of the partnership - D (Dale Dougherty) R (Ryan Kunde) N (Nancy Dougherty) and K (Katie Kunde). I vaguely recall that this partnership is him, his in-laws and his wife. I am a huge fan of family businesses. The first time was actually very fun, being unannounced and kind of off the cuff. He took us through all his wines in between working tanks and his daily routine. He has a Pinot Gris - referred to as the Orange wine - he produces in the presse method (letting the grapes sit and then pressing to the desired color rather than blending or bleeding.) The thing that is unique about the wine is the color - orange, peachy. The viscosity is heavy, oily, yet savory with a finish of dried stone fruit. I was intrigued and wanted to try more. I liked the Chardonnay - it was very good for RRV. Flavor notes I remember, lemon creme brulee came to mind. He had two Pinot Noirs - both RRV - and I was impressed. Both of these wines were very complex and very good representatives of the AVA. I returned 6 months later with my wife, as part of the Pinot Classic event. I was very happy to see Ryan and his family participating in the event. When he saw me he recognized me and he knew I was the Vino Brotha from our last meeting. Since it has been a while I realized that he had a few new releases. Besides the wines already mentioned he released a Rose and a 2012 Viognier Katie's Corner (one block in Saralee's Vineyard) RRV. I am a huge fan of Viognier, so I was excited. I'm going to tell you about the rose first. The rose was produced in the Saignee method and was crisp, with strawberries and light pomegranate flavors. It had a slight buttery finish, as it was barrel aged. Now to my all time favorite white, Rhone, varietal - Viognier. Beautiful orange blossom floral nose. Crisp peaches, tropical fruit, nice minerality with some white pepper to the finish. Something that is unique of Viognier is that is is one of the most tannic white wines. (it is also known as the red wine of white wines, btw.) Definitely on my list as one of the top 10 Viogniers I've had to date. If you are out wine exploring in Russian River Valley you might want to make this a stop on your travels. Call ahead and get an appointment so Ryan can show you his unique operation and you can sample his great wines. One note, don't be shy about picking up a bottle of DRNK at local grocery stores, either. Really is good wine. Check it Out! read more

having passed DRNK for years and thinking is was a clever way to say 'drunk' we kept driving. Friends invited us to a tasting and WOW WOW WOW were we sorry we'd passed them by for so long. APPOINTMENT ONLY. Yes!!!! I LOVE to see that this place has 5 stars across the board because it really is just awesome. I LOVE pretty much all the drnk wines, and this is one of my fave places to buy wine in the area. Not only are their bottles gorgeous and the marketing is on par, but they have an excellent assortment of something for everyone's palette. Driving in, you will see the gorgeous vines, and while it doesn't have the impressive tasting room that many others have, it doesn't lack in experience at all. They have a small outdoor bar that they do tastings at (the bar is a reclaimed piece of wood). Their wine glasses you taste out of are beautiful, not just el cheapo's you get at some tasting rooms. They also bring you into the cave and show you all the stages of the wine that is in production (which is all done on site). The owner, Ryan and Katie, are wonderfully sweet and you can tell that this is really Ryan's passion. He is super knowledgable and intense about how he makes his wine decisions. The price point is definitely reasonable, with most bottles not exceeding $50.00. The tasting menu is impressive and while you don't taste everything on it, it's definitely not skimpy. Now let's get to the wine...here are all my top picks (there is many) 1. Sauvignon blanc - one of my faves, and I'm definitely more a red wine person. Has a nice acidity. (~$20) 2. Viognier, they do an excellent one (I think they have 2 different years on the menu right now). This would be my choice for a great patio wine. (~$30) 3. Pinot Gris - they call this "orange wine" because of it's flavor characteristics. It's one of the more interesting ones to try and take home. I have also given this one as a gift a few times. (~$20) 4. Cavers cuvee -solid pinot that they also have a couple different vintages of) (~$35) 5.Hallberg pinot - one of my faves (~$50) 6. Syrah - solid, really like this one too. (~$40) 7. Rockin' red - if you are looking for a gift for someone, this is the winner. I haven't met anyone who doesn't like this. (~$35) 8. Malbec - one of my faves, we bought a couple bottles last time we were there. (~$30) Ugh, really I'm just repeating the entire tasting menu!! What I love about this place is that they have solid reds and whites, which is hard to find. If you want a solid experience with either your friends, family or a group, this is the place. It's not a huge overcrowded winery. It's a personalized experience, purchases come with appreciation and a smile, and you will just fall in love with this gem. I've been to a few vineyards and wineries in Napa, Sonoma, and the Russian River Valley, and DRNK was a truly exceptional experience. Unlike many tour options in the area, DRNK is only a winery, buying grapes from many of the vineyards in the area. This gives the owners a unique perspective, and the tasting included a fascinating discussion of how to select a block of grapes from different vineyards, how to blend wines with multiple grape sources and varieties, and other topics that you won't get at a combined vineyard/winery. The tasting was guided by the owner/winemaker, who was very informative and engaging. Furthermore, while the rolling hills of vines are a gorgeous backdrop for any wine tour, after a day of vineyard tours the cave tasting at DRNK is a fun departure. Finally, in true Bay Area fashion, the winery is pioneering the use of drones and sensors to help manage and select grapes from wineries around the area, and leaning about this was really fun! Check out their website for a video of the drones. Upshot: the wine was fantastic, the pours were generous, the bottles were not overpriced, and the tour was fun and informative. I recommend that anyone visiting the Russian River valley round out their trip with a stop at the DRNK winery. read more

We were introduced to this winery by a friend who is a member. They had a whole group of us out there and what a great day! We were greeted out front by a server who was knowledgable about the wine and the operation, then poured us some wonderful whites. Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. My wife and I are almost exclusively Pinot Noir fans but we found both these whites delicious. We were then invited into the cave (so cool, literally and figuratively) by the owner Ryan. We had a lot of questions which he explained to us in terms we understood (I am quite the novice wine person) and then entertained us, at a table way in the back, with more wines and information. Although they had plenty of Pinot Noir, we really enjoyed one wine specifically, "Rockin Red". It was so delicious (all were) that we bought a couple of bottles and joined the club when we were finished! Now that the glow of the wine has worn off, I have No buyers remorse! We have since been invited back for their December event in which we picked up our first shipment and were treated, along with (extra) friends, to another tasting event. That day we went to 4 other wineries and we all agreed that we enjoyed DRNK the best. Another overdue review.. Our group had a wonderful tasting experience with the winemaker, Ryan. This was a last minute decision and I'm glad he was able to accommodate our group with such a short notice (do call ahead). He was friendly and easygoing which allowed for a relaxed, un-hurried tasting experience. As others mentioned, tasting inside the cave adds to the unique experience and I liked how he was able to address our questions, some with "hands-on" comparison of the current and future (from barrel/tank) vintages.. definitely shows his enthusiasm. During my first visit, we had a little mix-up w/ our order but Ryan was able to straighten it out (great customer service). I've since returned with another group and picked up a few additional bottles to add to my collection. Great people. Amazing wine. Top notch experience! We were visiting another winery in the area and were told about DRNK. It feels like Sebastopol's best kept secret! Appointment only, no signage from the street, small production, and one of the only (maybe the only?) wine caves in the area. I emailed on a whim hoping we could snag an appointment on our last minute trip and to my delight, Ryan, the winemaker emailed to confirm they could accommodate us. We had an appointment at 3 pm and were the only people tasting, which was spectacular! No scripted/rushed tastings here. Spencer was awesome and absolutely made our experience 5 stars. DRNK buys their grapes from some of the best wineries in the area and creates killer wines! They offer a wide variety of wines (Sav Blanc, Chardonnays, Viognier, Rose, a few Pinots, Syrah, red blend, Malbec...I feel like I'm missing a couple) and honestly, everything we tasted was very, very good. My husband usually hates Malbec's and loved DRNK's Malbec. I don't think any bottle was over $50 and I would put them up against any of the $$$ wines in the area. We most definitely joined their club and walked away feeling like we had made a new friend. We can't wait to return and hope to meet Ryan and the rest of the DRNK family! read more
