Great wine, great conversation. David is a sweet soul and very talented. The place is beautiful and worth visiting.

We were passing by and spotted this winery on the map - overall, we had a really enjoyable and peaceful visit for a one-off wine tasting. David was as nice in person as on the phone when booking the appointment the same day. We had the choice of indoor vs outdoor for the tasting - both were nice spots but it was really nice out with the picnic table, pond, scenic hills, horses, heron, rat terrier Mikey, and the lounge chairs where we could enjoy our BYO lunch (Mexican from Roy's). Moondance has been in this location for over 20 years and co-promotes businesses in town, including the local Nepalese spot where their wines are served (Yeti), which is pretty cool. They only make 4 wines right now - two reds, two whites - and there were fans of all between the two of us, especially the Sauvignon Blanc, the Chardonnay (which was less buttery and less dry than others), and the Pinot Noir. The pours were the standard smaller size, which at least one of us appreciated, lol. Our tasting ended with a tour of the old cars, which at least one of us also appreciated. I booked months in advance because I already knew that we were coming through Sebastopol on our way to bodega Bay in March and David emailed me back upon my inquiry. I did have to call in with my credit card to reserve the spot. Fast forward several months and it is Wednesday at 11 AM. We arrive at Moondance cellars gate but it is closed and there is just a keypad we don't know what to press. I called the number listed on Google maps, but get the machine. Luckily David calls back a few minutes later as he was running a little bit late. He electronically opened the gates for us, and we parked to the left side and walked down to the pond/picnic table. We had two greyhounds with us, and they were thrilled with the horses. David's little dog Mike wasn't so thrilled with the greyhounds, but they all were fine together. There were six of us, but only five of us were doing the tastings. We tasted two whites and two reds at the picnic table, and then we got a revisit our favorite wine as we walked down to the garage area to see the hot rods. We also saw a family of deer in the next winery over. Moondance does not have its own grapes, but there are some vineyards around the property. David was here on his own today as his wife was out and he was happy to hear we had nowhere else to be so we didn't have to rush. He said pared down in life to the things he loves doing, like these tastings. Upon payment time, we went inside to the store/tasting bar/shed and paid for our $25 tastings and the bottles we were taking home. The toilet is in the front of the house. There was a laminated sheet with tasting notes and prices, but David told us to ignore the tasting notes as everybody has individual tastes. read more

We had a great time wine tasting here for a birthday. We tried several delicious wines and one of our friends became a member. I loved that it was an intimate experience and we were allowed to bring food. They had a great property and even showed us their horses and hot rods. They only take 3 reservations a day and only accept reservations over the phone. read more

Moondance Cellars is a wonderful winery to visit. It is very low key and casual and, weather permitting, you'll sit outside at a picnic table, overlooking horses, vineyards, and a small pond. You'll enjoy a leisurely tasting with the owner and winemaker, David, who is knowledgeable, friendly, and full of intereting stories. If you're lucky and have time, he'll show you his antique car collection. Oh wait. The wines! They are delicious. While not normally a Sauvignon Blanc person, I loved the most recent batch. An absolutely wonderful wine tasting experience! We needed a place that was family friendly, outside, and with great wine, and, boy, did we find it. David encouraged us to bring a picnic spread, then poured some delicious wines for us, while our children played with the dog, looked at the horses with Priscilla, and peered into the pond. We spent the afternoon tasting wine and listening to David's fantastic tales. I'm not going to pretend that I am a fancy wine expert, but I have consumed plenty, and I do know what I like. My favorites of the day were the Sauvignon blanc and the Merlot. We were so delighted by the offerings at Moondance Cellars, we bought a case. First off, if you're expecting a stereotypical snobby tasting experience, you're going to want to find another winery. This is an old school non-showy winery. David and his wife are fantastic. Didn't know what to expect when coming here, but WOW. David obviously loves wine making and really knows what he's doing. White or Red, you can't go wrong here. He only does 3 tastings a day, so you really feel special when you're here enjoying some great wine on a great peace of land surrounded by grapes and horses. I recently took a trip to the Bodega Bay area with my family. I have been there before but my family had never been there. As part of the trip we wanted to visit a winery/vineyard that was family-friendly and low-key. My wife found Moondance Cellars in the Sebastopol area online and based on the amazing reviews, we decided to give it a shot. It literally felt as if we were visiting a family member and we're hanging out and drinking wine. David and Priscilla were amazing host and my entire family was entertained in some way shape or form. This hidden gem was a delightful hour-and-a-half appointment with Dave and Priscilla. The staff (owners Dave and Priscilla ) wore masks and practiced the proper COVID-19 PPE and distancing protocol. Once we got to the tasting our masks came off of course. The tasting was delightful. Dave is an awesome storyteller with many insights about the wine, wine making process and the local area. I enjoyed every single wine on the flight. The standout for me was the 2020 Sauvignon Blanc. We were taken on a quick tour of their property, accompanied by Mike the dog - awesome views, horses, vintage cars. This winery was the cutest, most laid back tasting with the best wine! I booked a private shuttle for 11 people for my birthday and David (the owner) graciously let us all crash his winery. Love everything about this place! The wine is top notch. Just top. The Chardonnay is my favorite non-oaked fresh yet creamy perfect elixir for a sunny afternoon. Or as my go-to companion when cooking. Or just to cheer me up. The Pinot has that special something that makes it such a popular grape - when done right. Like at Moondance. And that Cab!? Worth every penny. Explosion of taste. Put it down with a tomahawk steak or NY strip, medium rare, local gras fed beef, and you'll know why CA is such a food Mecca. But it's not just the wines. It's that special unpretentiousness, personal feeling. And yes, the service. It's not having a sign at the gate, not having to pay for a marketing department, not being judged, it's about being welcomed and shown how wine tasting ought to be. Like how it was before they had the $50 tasting fees you put down in Napa, just to have a tiny drop of some tart thing that needs years to mellow. Sooooooo, guys. This winery is AWESOME! As I write this I'm enjoying a glass of the 2016 Chardonnay. I've literally been saving it since March (when I visited) because I knew once I drank it it would be a long while before I could get a replacement. What a hidden gem off the beaten path! As I was searching for wineries in Sonoma, I came across the website for Moondance Cellars. I was intrigued by the idea of tasting wine while visiting with horses and dogs. My partner was equally excited by the opportunity to explore a few stellar classic cars. Our expectations were met and exceeded! David and Priscilla are a husband/wife duo who have been making wine on their own terms, using both standard and innovative techniques. They have a variety of whites (chardonnay) and reds (pinot noir, merlot, cabernet sauvignon). There was not a single wine that I did not enjoy. My two favorites were the pinot and cab. During the tasting, David explained his whole process to us, including the history of Moondance. While he was speaking with us, it was clear that his sole focus was on us, and he wanted to get to know us. After the wine tasting, David gave us an extra pour and gave us a tour of the property. We were able to say hello to Teddy (a horse) and explore several classic cars. It felt like a home away from home. Visiting Moondance Cellars was spectacular. I cannot recommend it more highly. We are going home members of Moondance's Wine Club so that we can enjoy David and Priscilla's wine year round. Moondance is absolutely worth a visit. Thank you to David and Priscilla! read more

This is not your typical wine tasting experience. I called to make a rezzie, and David said "I'm in the shower...call you back in 10." This was after calling 20 wineries to dial through the Phone Maze. They are simply lovely people opening up their home property to share wine that is unavailable in stores. The small batch wines are delightful. The tastings are all single party. I can't drink a lot of red wine or Chardonnay, even though I love it. However I fell in love with the Sauvignon Blanc and officially joined my one and only wine club. If you like an unpretentious, real-deal local experience, this place is a hidden gem not to be missed. read more

David was so accommodating and we had a great time chatting with him during our wine tasting. He's currently only doing one reservation at a time so we got his full undivided attention. It really seems he cares about delivering a personal experience. The atmosphere is laid back, relaxing, and the expansive rolling vineyards in the background are breathtaking. His dog, Mike, is so cute and loved to sunbathe next to us as we tried the different wines. This is a wonderful small winery that definitely deserves a visit if you're in the area. Be sure to call ahead of time to make an appointment. Tastings are limited given the times and you get plenty of time to taste during the two hour appointment. They do bookings for one party at a time so it's a very personal and safe experience. You can bring food to snack on and I had my dogs with me. There are pretty horses in the grounds and beautiful views of nearby vineyards. We enjoyed everything we tried and ended up with at least a bottle of each. I highly recommend their sauvignon and pinot. If you're not a fan of chardonnay I recommend trying the one here because it's amazing and not heavy on the butter. Highly recommend coming here for great wine and a relaxing fun time. read more

I am so glad I followed my instincts when I found Moondance on yelp and took our out of town friends there on a rainy Sunday. He is one cool dude. there is the teeny winery, the 4 horses, the dog (which we did not get to meet) and the cat (which we also did not get to meet) He has cool refurbished cars, and is full of stories. David and his wife (sorry I'm forgetting your name!) were incredibly kind and welcoming. They gave us a tour of their beautiful property, let our dogs play with their dog, and delivered on some outstanding wines. This place comes highly recommended from me, my two human companions, and my two canine companions. TL;DR: there are horses and vintage cars, a dog, great stories, and amazing wine. Do it. Goodness I can't even tell you how delighted we were to find this little gem tucked away in Sonoma County. David was incredibly welcoming and an excellent conversationalist. We jawed for over an hour about wine, travel, classic cars, and animals. They have several horses on the property (and even more in the Corvette, har har), and I'm a horse nut, so strolling the paddock with Chili, Chicky, Teddy, and Mouse- all with a glass of delicious Pinot Noir in hand? That's heaven right there. Meanwhile, my boyfriend was happily getting all the details on the classic cars David takes such good care of. I didn't get to spend as much time chatting with Priscilla as she was shepherding several adorable children off around the property, taking them off their parents' hands so they could enjoy the wine. If that isn't sainthood, I don't know what is. Oh my, I haven't even mentioned the wine. It's all scrumptious. I usually hate Chardonnays, but theirs isn't oaky at all, very clean. I am holding a bottle of their Sauvignon Blanc for a deserving occasion, it was my favorite. And you finish with a Zin they only made five barrels of, and I wish I could hoard all five. The history of Moondance and some of the unique labels/collaborations they've done over the years was as entertaining as it was informative. Scout's honor, this was the best wine tasting experience I've ever had, from the vino to the company to the scenery to the little dog too. If you come through Sonoma County and don't make this a part of your trip, you will forever be sad and haunted by dreams of the Moondance that got away. read more
