When we arrived, we were told that there was a new law REQUIRING AWD in the mountains and the fine for not having it was steep. So, he "upgraded" us to an AWD for this reason. Then, he told us the toll road fees would be, to start, at least $50 and then each camera at least $3 plus fees "and there are cameras really close together". So, the charge for using toll roads would be super expensive and told us we'd be better off with the toll package. Then, he advised us that our vehicle insurance would not protect us in any accident or damage because we'd be charged the rental fee per day until the car was fixed and that could take months. So, add that to the cost. When all was said and done with all these "requirements" to protect us because everything was worst case, we went from $400 to $1400. Come to find out, the tolls are not that high, they do not require AWD unless there is a lot of snow and an alert goes out before they require AWD or chains. So, it's not like they require it all the time or just instantly. The "full size "SUV" was a Dodge Durango which was not the size of the Ford Expedition it said originally. The girl next to us refused all of it and suddenly her rate skyrocketed because she was a "high risk" driver. She asked why, but they couldn't give her a justification. She was just told her rate increased. Stay away. This place is a scam company.

So our experience with SIXT has been great for the times we have used them (CA, AZ, CO). From the free upgrades to the wonderful folks we have met. CO is no exception. The folks were so friendly. Even with the bit of snafu we had with our reservation not showing in the system everyone was still focused on great customer service. And from someone who comes from a CS background I am always paying attention to the service. So for the folks who want to b$$$ and moan and write their reviews, I challenge you to write about the wonderful CS experiences you have as well.

They sent a survey to ask about our check-in experience, and I was honest, so they offered to apply a $150 credit. Seems nice, right? We have still never received this credit. I tried calling them (hung up on me), and have emailed back and forth several times. They just stopped responding. Then we almost got stranded, because the battery and the key was dead, and the car almost turned off. We had to go 30 minutes out of our way to go to a store to buy a key battery. They didn't do anything to reimburse us for that. Please do not rent from this company. They will send you an email saying that they're very sorry, and they understand, but never do anything about it. Most disingenuous customer service I have ever experienced. SIXT Response: Hello Nicholas, we're truly sorry to hear about your frustrating experience with the check-in process and the issues with the car key battery. We apologise for the inconvenience and the lack of follow-up regarding the credit and your attempts to reach us. Your feedback is invaluable, and we are committed to improving our service. Thank you for bringing these matters to our attention. -Jean Follow-Up Review: The company's response proves my point--most disingenuous customer service. No solution, no promise to fix anything...just a bunch of empty words. Do not use this company, they are horrible.

Sad to say that it is time to stop using Avis, the company that used to say it "tried harder"…read morebecause it was No. 2 (behind Hertz, back a gazillion years ago). Now they don't try at all. Made a reservation in Cape Town, South Africa, for the end of October. Rented at the Airport and had no problems. No complaints whatsoever until, apparently, my return of the car, which I guess I mistakenly thought had gone as good as it could go. A nice attendant checked the car in, made nice small talk and gave me a receipt showing all good / all as reserved / all paid. So I'm thinking, "Gee that was easy. I guess Avis is back in the saddle." Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Just got a notice that literally weeks after I returned the car Avis has charged me--without notice or my authorization--a new billing for $26.42 for the rental. Tried to contact them and found it impossible to do without making a call to Cape Town, South Africa. What!?! You're an international company that I hired here in the US and you now want me to communicate with a company who's clock is 10 hours ahead of mine so I get to call them from 11 p.m. until 7 a.m. about a problem they created and about a charge they made up from nothing. You gotta be kidding me. Never use them again . . . and you shouldn't either. Sign me, David "Nope, they're not kidding me" M

Our insurance policy covers rentals so we have no need to do that. I didn't have our insurance policy number with me when I got to their office however, so I had to call my agent. Don't make that mistake. I was thankful it was during office hours! My husband and I laughed later about the car rental agent who tried to talk me into a bigger vehicle. She didn't think the Nissan we rented was big enough for 2. It was actually big enough for 5. We were allowed to extend our rentals longer, with no problem. After we extended it, our relatives were visiting offered us the use of their car so Routes gave us a full refund for the days we didn't use when we returned it early. So we did appreciate the flexibility

We were also charged a daily toll rate, although there were no tolls we crossed. We were also told it would be cheaper for them to refuel the car than to fill it up ourselves. We spent $20 filling the tank before returning it, and were charged $37.80 for fuel. The vehicle we were given had a broken trunk latch that appeared to be temporarily held together with a piece of metal. The trunk would unexpectedly open while driving, which created serious safety concerns. Overall, the pricing transparency and condition of the vehicle did not match what was promised at pickup. I would strongly recommend that future customers carefully review all charges in detail and inspect the vehicle thoroughly before driving off. Rent thought Sixt! They were wonderful and less than half the price of Routes for the same amount of days.

Longer lines, tension between the written word and the action, and a car that was possibly the worst performing car I've driven. The shuttle picked us up quickly, which was great! The driver was nice and helpful. Then, more than 30 minutes waiting, even after doing the online checkin. They needed to verify documents, so there is no benefit to the online checkin, you're in the same line as everyone. Was told I'd be charged a $200 deposit, no problem. Then, they charged a $250 deposit. That would have been ok, I just like to have words and action to match. The car was a standard SUV. The car was such a gutless gas-guzzling SUV. Returning the car was odd. I pulled up and into the line of cars. After 10 minutes, I began to go inside and a worker motioned for me to move the car over to the line next to the one I parked. I moved, he was gone. I just walked around the car and filmed its condition, took pictures of the clean interior, and the full gas level. I went to the bus. So very strange. And, the shuttle driver was great, a nice guy that was very helpful to everyone. The drivers earned the two stars.
