The portions are very large, you should go with an appetite. Service was very good. Would recommend this to other people for sure.

So, as you're driving down the I-5 and looking for a place to get delicious sandwiches, this is the perfect spot! And, while you're there, stock up on wide variety of handcrafted sausages, brats, beef sticks, bacon, marinated meats, dry rubs and more! We brought an insulated bag with ice packs to put them in. We grabbed some for family we were visiting in Sacramento and stopped again on our way back home to stock up. We tried the Brisket and Ribeye sandwiches. The bread got soft fast, maybe a little too soft. They were both hot sandwiches so not sure if it was from a little too much bbq sauce, juices from the meat or how it's wrapped. The brisket and ribeye were tender and juicy. I liked the Ribeye a little more since it had mushrooms, bell peppers and onion. I would have liked the bread to be more toasty since we ate the sandwiches there. But, that's my preference; I love more texture in my food. Loved the variety of sausages, brats and beef sticks that we got. The bacon was a lot thinner than we're used to. We bought lots of their dry Wolfsen's seasoning since it's one of my bf's favorites! I loved that the beef sticks that weren't too oily and very tasty. I wish we had gotten more of them! The sausages were so flavorful!! We tried them in a variety of dishes. We really liked the Smoked Blueberry Bratwurst, Smoked Andouille Sausage, Smoked Chuckwagon sausage, Cajun Style Smoked Sausage and Smoked German Pork Sausage.

How this place did not have a line out the door at lunch time baffles me. Staff were fantastic too!

Arriving shortly…read moreafter they opened, we quickly saw the dining room fill up - and after our first bites, it's not hard to see why their food is outstanding. My Roadhouse Salad was enormous and topped with generous, perfectly cooked slices of tri-tip, which balanced beautifully with the tart apples, blue cheese, and apple vinaigrette. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his pulled pork sandwich as well. The restaurant itself is also so clean & well decorated. We will definitely be return customers!

We were regulars at Hot City when Steve and Joy owned the place back in the day; and there was…read moresomething about their food that went far beyond simply being good BBQ. You could taste the time, care, and meaning that went into it. Steve had a way of treating that smoker like it was sacred. You'd see him hovering over those meats, his signature glass of wine in hand, watching over them like a father watching over his kids. He wasn't just cooking meat. He was tending to it, making sure it was right. And you could taste that care when it hit your plate. When Steve and Joy sold the business, we were crushed. We definitely throttled back and eventually found ourselves traveling out to the Bay Area when we really wanted BBQ. We've given Hot City a few chances under the new ownership, hoping we'd find some of that old magic. Unfortunately, we haven't. The food just doesn't have the soul it once had. The meats have been inconsistent in both flavor and texture, and the sides have left us equally unimpressed. Our most recent visit really confirmed it. The food looked good, but the flavor was flat. The tri-tip lacked the seasoning and depth we remembered, and the sides were dry and bland. We ended up reaching for the salt and pepper just to bring life to the plate. And that's the real problem. BBQ isn't just meat thrown on a smoker. Good BBQ has personality. It has patience, pride, seasoning, smoke, and somebody behind it who genuinely cares about what they're putting in front of people. That's what Steve and Joy brought to Hot City. There was a heart behind the food. You felt it before you even took a bite. When they left, unfortunately, it feels like the soul of Hot City left with them. What remains is a shell of what Hot City used to be. I'm not writing this to be nostalgic for the sake of nostalgia. I'm saying it because we were regulars, we remember what this place was, and we've given the new version more than one chance. It's just not good BBQ. I really hope someone finds a way to bring that soul back. Because Hot City used to mean something to us. It wasn't just a place to grab some good BBQ. With Joy and Steve, you were family!

Why does this Tri-Tip have to be so ridiculously tender and juicy?!…read more Seriously... why even bother giving me a steak knife? This Tri-Tip was so tender I could've sliced it with an old butter knife from Grandma's kitchen drawer and never missed a beat. And the flavor? Absolutely unreal. I swear that cow was out in the pasture happily munching on fresh grass about two seconds before it made its way to my plate. Every bite tasted so fresh, juicy, and packed with flavor that it almost seemed unfair to every other Tri-Tip I've ever eaten. This wasn't just dinner--it was a full-blown meat experience. Tender, juicy, flavorful, and cooked so perfectly that it should probably come with a warning label: "Caution: May permanently ruin all future Tri-Tip for comparison purposes." 10/10. I'd gladly skip a salad, ignore my diet, and make questionable life decisions all over again for another plate of this masterpiece.

I ordered the pork belly sandwich, but it wasn't what I expected based on the menu. Instead of the tender, sliced pork belly I was anticipating, it came with three large chunks of meat covered in barbecue sauce. It honestly didn't resemble what I would typically consider a pork belly sandwich, and I found myself a little confused by the presentation. The macaroni and cheese had good flavor, although it seemed a bit dry and firm, as if it had been sitting for a while. I understand that everyone has different styles of barbecue, and this may have simply been an off day. I'm sharing this feedback in the hope that it's helpful, because I know many people speak highly of Big Vic's. I truly hope this was just an exception, and I'd be willing to give them another try in the future.
