Definitely one of my favorite places in town here in Patterson. If you have a chance to stop by for a wholesome meal, I highly recommend it. It is well situated next to Highway 5, and their trio is a great option if you want to try all their meats. They also offer a variety of seasonings, including spices and barbecue sauces. The portions are very generous, and the meats are slow cooked for hours, making them perfectly tender and flavorful. It is also a great place to watch games and host family events. One of the few non-fast food options right off the freeway exit. The staff are all very kind people. It's hard to find good BBQ in California, and unfortunately this place wasnt it either. I ordered their combo plate with brisket, burnt ends, and a side of mac. Not a whole lot of flavors going on there. I didn't add any sauce but there should be seasoning already... The burnt ends were either too burnt or lacked that nice crispy texture. The meat used for the brisket was too fatty so everything felt mushy and greasy. My wife ordered her own mac and cheese with meat addon. She also asked for brisket - interestingly they were tough and had different texture than mine. I used to love this place but every time we go now it just feels like highway robbery. Everything is à la carte. By the time you add bacon and cheese to your burger, your $10 burger turns into a $20 burger. By the time you add pepperoni and mushrooms to your pizza you're $12 pizzas now $24 pizza. We dined as a party of four for an early dinner Saturday. We were seated immediately and drinks were brought out right away (4 waters and 2 soft drinks), which was a great start. After that, the experience slowed down quite a bit. When ordering, the new menu was confusing. Everything is now essentially à la carte -- you order a meat or sandwich and then choose a side at an additional cost. We ordered one 3-meat combo with garlic fries, one 2-meat combo with mac & cheese, a tri-tip sandwich with garlic fries, another sandwich with regular fries, and a large onion ring for the table. There was also confusion about sides. We initially asked for a large garlic fry with the combo and were told it only came with a small side, but also that the side wasn't included in the price. The ordering process felt unclear for both us and the server. Food took about 25 minutes to arrive. During that time, we had to ask multiple staff members for utensils and condiments (BBQ sauce, ketchup, ranch, and Tabasco). We asked three different times before receiving them, and by then the fries were mostly gone. Food quality was mixed. The sandwiches and sides were actually very good, and the tri-tip was flavorful. However, the smoked BBQ meats were very dry and the house BBQ sauce was not appealing. The dining room was also quite cold during our visit. Our total bill was about $200 for four people. At that price point, we expected stronger service and more consistent food quality. The restaurant used to be a favorite when we first moved to Patterson 8 years ago, so this visit was disappointing. Located right off the I-5 in the same plaza as the Patterson Cafe, Almond Wood looks to be the next new date night spot for locals and pit-stoppers alike. The inside is very open and airy, and their waiting room is unusually large? But it's got giant Connect 4 and foosball to help pass the time. We came on a Saturday afternoon and waited about 20 minutes until we were seated. Upon sitting down, we were met with an extensive menu from BYO (Build Your Own) pasta bowls, to BBQ, to pizza. We ordered: - Green tea w/ passionfruit - super refreshing with a hint of passionfruit, and definitely unsweetened. So if you prefer your tea sweet, I recommend to ask for sugar or pick a different drink. - Crazy spuds - or "Animal fries" per our receipt (I guess to avoid a lawsuit from In-n-Out). Definitely a burger-flavored fry dish and delicious. - 2-Protein combo - we went with the Angus brisket and Angus tri tip with a side of mac n cheese and corn bread. This was a quick lunch stop during our road trip, hoping for something a lot better than fast food. I ordered a mac n cheese ($9) with a brisket add on ($6). When it came, I was immediately disappointed when I saw it. It looked like a pretty plain pasta dish where I barely even saw any of the brisket :( Most other BBQ restaurants I've been to would usually load a big stack of meat on top of the mac. My husband ordered a meat combo and gave me some of his brisket out of pity. We noticed a big difference in the consistency of the brisket between the one that came with the mac n cheese and the meat combo. Talk about a "find"! Traveling thru and we thought we would check this out or go back to a fast food option. Sign on the road says Apricot Wood. Look for the big BBQ on the building-on the door it says Almond Wood. Am I glad we took the chance to try this place! While sometimes you are kind of in an area where you find something that's "not bad for what was available ", I would travel specifically to this place for a meal! The burnt ends were fall apart and the velvet smoke sauce was so smooth and a perfect match. The sandwiches were on a bread that was luscious and the taste of the meat was great. The side of slaw was a nice fresh addition. Can't wait to return to try the other BBQ or pizza options. Then there's the pastas and so many things I'm now excited to try! While the staff are very pleasant, there is an issue with consistent quality of food. This was once, one of my favorite places to travel to, and eat while in Patterson. The kitchen team needs a tune up to clearly understand the recipes and the importance of consistency. As an example, the Brussel & Arugula Chips. There's an obvious disconnect in preparation from Chef to Chef/Cook to Cook. I like to use this as an example of success in the Resturant Industry. No matter where you go in the entire world, if you go to a McDonalds you know exactly what you are going to get. If you're in Japan or the UK, Mc Donald's taste the same. Consistency is King in the Resturant industry. That is the only reason Mc Donald's is so attractive with consumers. Humans are creatures of habit. Whether you have one Resturant or thousands you have to be consistent. Now, having said that, I by no means suggest that Mc Donald's is a good place to eat, I'm just trying to emphasize the point, that your entire team should function as a team and be consistent. I should not feel, that I need to call and find out who's cooking to ensure the quality and consistency. Also, stop making short cuts and changing your menu of drinks. I don't like asking for a drink and you bring me a can to open myself. You have/had a very nice place, but the direction you are heading is disastrous, and will not end well. read more

Almond Wood was a nice surprise. I had no idea good food could be found in Patterson. Went there on a whim after drifting at the Crows Landing airway. The staff was wonderful and accommodating. We had 7 of us come in like gangbusters. One of us is vegetarian and Almond Wood had dishes just for them. Everyone was happy and full. There was a horrible stench that hit us upon entering the restaurant. We shared our concerns and the staff was kind and explained what was going on with the building (that they have no control of). Wow the food is soooo delicious!! My husband and I happen to be passing through town and randomly chose this spot and we're very glad we did. The service was great and the ambiance is nice, family friendly, gastro-pub vibe. Came here for a quick dinner on a Friday evening around 8:30pm, and ended up staying for about 2 hours (so much for quick dinner). From what I saw, there were about 4-5 servers, and what felt like one chef in the kitchen - Tables are quickly wiped off, but nothing thorough (seats still had residual food on them) Food and drinks: - Strawberry lemonade: this was interesting. There was strawberry purée / chunks on the bottom that wouldn't mix with the lemonade. Due to this, it tasted more like sugar water with strawberry chunks - Nachos: these weren't that bad. The cheese was a little different than I was expecting (it was like a mozzarella version of the canned nacho cheese) - Sliders: I got the chicken sliders, which were already dressed with bbq sauce. This seemed like quite a minimal dish with not much to it. I would have loved more toppings to the sliders or something to give the flavor more depth. - Honey Mustard BLT: your standard BLT with honey mustard flavoring - Corn: the sauce for this sounded delicious on the menu. Placed a to-go order online. Ordered brisket, burnt ends, chicken thighs, fried pickles, and 3 chicken nuggets and fries kids meals on a night they offer 1/2 priced kids meals. The half off kids meal pricing did not reflect via their online ordering system like I was told it would so I paid upon arriving to the restaurant. They adjusted the total accordingly and apologized for the inconvenience. I would have paid online prior so I could take advantage of the curbside pickup had the pricing been accurate. Just keep that in mind when ordering online and taking advantage of promotional pricing/offers. Make sure it's accurate. The brisket was delicious. The burnt ends were melt in your mouth tender. The chicken thighs were relatively plain but perfectly cooked. No sauce on them which was actually great. We ended up using the chicken for a recipe the next night since we truly enjoyed the brisket and burnt ends more. Friend pickles were excellent. The sauce it's served with was amazing. Kids meals were good. They ate 'em. Not much more to say. It was chicken nuggets and fries. Hard to mess that up. Lol. My only suggestion is the containers. I'm not a fan of hot items being in plastic containers. Would love to see a simple paper liner on the bottom in between the container and the food. 10/10 recommend though.
