Drain Man did solid plumbing work for me initially. On December 23, they resolved a slow toilet seepage issue efficiently, and I was happy with the quality of the repair. Follow-up work (faucet replacement and shutoff valve replacements) had to wait for a building-wide water shutoff. When I learned on Jan 23 that a shutoff had been scheduled for Jan 31 (a limited, 3-hour window that happens maybe a few times a year), I contacted Drain Man immediately--speaking with the office manager and following up the same day by both text and email with full details. (These communications had concluded by 1:15 p.m.) By 11:30 a.m. Monday morning I hadn't heard back. When I called again, (the call rolled over from the office directly to the plumber, who said he was on his back underneath someone's sink), I was told nothing was scheduled and was asked for the work details again, despite having already provided them. When I expressed concern about the multiple provisions of the details--given the tight timing--the conversation was ended abruptly by the plumber ("I'm busy"). This experience suggested organizational and communication issues. That impression was reinforced by the fact that my landlord had also been waiting on an electronic invoice from the December visit and still hadn't received it by Jan. 12. Bottom line: if you're judging purely on workmanship, I have no complaints. But if timely communication, clear scheduling, and not having to repeat yourself matter to you, this may not be the right fit. read more

2/18/2020 Drain Man (Don) Hilo, HI 808-796-5080 I contacted Drain Man based on positive reviews with Yelp. My kitchen drain was clogged. He showed up early for my appointment and we inspected the drain and line under the house together. It turned out that in addition to the clog we found the drain pipe had sheared at the floor. He also found a leak in the supply line to my half bath sink. He proposed replacing the drain line from the sink to the main drain line and replacing the supply lines to the half bath sink. I agreed and he worked efficiently to repair both. Both are working fine now. He kept me updated with his work schedule over the two days he was working for me and I am very pleased with the workmanship and value. Don came over again to redo the kitchen drain and fix an earlier "repair," (another plumber) that had been leaking for nearly two years. He did so well on that, I asked him to redo the supply lines to make them as beautiful. He is an artist too! As before, we talked of many things. He even showed me how to swage Pecs tubing. Got all the hardware out and just did it. What a guy! He is a first class person and he did beautiful work. All in all, he diagnosed and fixed three sinks in the house. On 04/22/2022, I saw this businesses Yelp ad which stated "We'll get it done at Drain Man!! 24/7 business that gives FREE estimates. Our reputation is proof that we take pride in our work and customer satisfaction. Contact us today (808) 796-5080." Called the number and spoke with someone who I presume to be Don and asked if he could schedule a time to go out to my property to give me an estimate. He asked me what the address was and then asked how far out from Hilo the property was. I told him it was an hour and ten minutes north from Hilo airport. He then stated that there was a travel charge of $160.00 non-negotiable (okay - I got that). I asked him when he would be able to be onsite to review the leak, to which he stated he could be there Saturday the 23rd between 6:00 and 8:00 pm. He then states that it will be $160.00 per hour rate to repair. So, being that his ad says "FREE estimates" I asked him if he would be able to estimate how many hours it would take to repair once he was onsite (I had photos of the above ground leak that I was going to e-mail him to give him a better idea of the issue prior to his arrival). He then states "You know what? Forget about the appointment. If money is going to be an issue I don't want to do the job. I have plenty of work already." He then hangs up. Huh??? Once again, his Yelp ad states "...we take pride in our work and customer service." I'm retired from the Aerospace Industry, and I know for a fact that if I treated my aerospace customers with his type of arrogance I would have been fired. If you ask for an estimate, be prepared for the same treatment. Better yet, save yourself the grief and aggravation and contact another plumbing company that is reputable and understands what true customer service is. read more
