I heard so many good things about Dragoon. During my Arizona road trip I asked all sorts of people, including many brewery people, what breweries I should go to in Tucson and every single one said to go to Dragoon, that it was the best. The friends I stayed with in Tucson also said this was their favorite so of course we had to check it out. Maybe I was expecting too much but I ended up disappointed. The brewery feels too boring and sterile. The service was awful, the guy helping us was a total jerk. The beers were pretty good and interesting but not amazing. If however, you are looking for something different and more adventurous you should give them a try. read more

Best craft brewer in Tuscon--no doubt about it. Got turned on to them trying the Biere del Bac quad at Tap & Bottle. Not obvious where to turn in to find this place, especially after dark, since it's a ways back in an industrial area. Poutine food truck outside was a nice touch. Tried 8 different beers in two flights. Cost: $27. My main complaint (apart from the service) is the price: nobody's beer is worth over a dollar an ounce. Not the Bruery, not Dragoon, nobody. $6 for a taster? Come on. Still, every beer was well crafted, and an experience in itself. Loved the basil-scented Dragoon IPA, both the regular and barrel-aged versions of the Biere del Bac, and the sweet, sappy brown butter and caramel of the 13% Lazarus. The Fumacabra was too smoky for my taste; the Scout porters were not as smoky, and very respectable. A nice range of 9 beers on tap and all of them worth a try; I can't overstate how far--head and shoulders--above the local competition this place is in terms of brew quality. Service was decidedly mixed here: the reddish-brown curly haired girl in light brown boots with glasses who greeted us at the bar was...singularly unhelpful. She told us flights could be obtained by filling out a card. She didn't offer to get this card for us; we had to walk to the other end of the bar and get cards for ourselves. OK, fine. But then, after we had filled them out, and shoved them in toward the edge of the bar, we were ignored for the next 10 minutes. Only once "Stout"--our red-faced, hat-wearing, knife-toting, bearded savior--came out, which boot girl foisted us onto instead of serving us herself, were we served. Stout (as his shirt read) was an absolute pro. He gave us each a glass of water without asking, and promptly served all our beers. He clearly knew his beer, and was a great server to boot. A final note: in a big open location like this with such a clean aesthetic, why are you guys so cheap that you REUSE your paper coasters? The stains on them are obvious, and it feels gross to get somebody else's coaster. Are your margins so thin you have to do this? Cut it out! If the service and price were a little better, this would be 5 stars--and the beer itself is indeed a 5-star product--but the cost and mixed bartender experience make it a 4. Bottom line: if you're willing to pay for it, this is the best beer in town. read more

Well, unfortunate to have such an awful experience considering the high hopes I brought into Dragoon. First off, the place appears to have the micro brewery vibe, but after a few minutes, you realize it really doesn't and is too small, too plain and too odd. The beer was a serious let down. Everything we had was over played, seemingly complex and just simply not enjoyable. The worst part, I had my aha discount card and showed the bartender. I brew a lot at home and frequent aha discount participants constantly. Great, 15% off! Not!! After much work for our tab and a reminder of the discount, no discount. No chance to wait another 15-20 minutes to save $7.00, we'll just call or email and get a credit next time, right? Wrong! Emails not returned and phone calls to people who refuse to help or say someone will call back. Still nothing. How can a place possibly treat customers this way? Set in post apocalyptic suburbia (It's a buisness/warehouse park), Dragoon is slinging some serious suds. A lot of their stuff is a bit stronger and seems to lean hoppy, but they have quite a few tap options if that's not your thing. Love the vibe here, and there is usually a food truck out front. So I'm going to go ahead and call Dragoon the hipster brewery of Tucson. And that says a lot, I live in Austin, the hipster Mecca. All handlebar mustaches and flannel shirts aside, the beers are on point. We had a large party, and not only was there room for everyone, each person found a delicious beer to enjoy. My personal favorite was the Öhaygrrl (a gose) but the Half Moon Dunkel Weiss was also great. My only desire was to have some food to nosh on while we imbibed. Very clean industrial looking property. They mainly distribute their product so the selling floor is very plain. I do wish there was more seating in here that wasn't high top bars. I'm always too short to reach the stools and I don't want to sit at the long short tables with 20 joined seats. The beer is decent. I wish there were less IPAs and more wheats. We did try the barrel-aged beer and wow that's not for the faint of heart or those driving. If you don't want an IPA get an ale. read more

I am a big fan of tap rooms, and this one is no exception. For those not in the know a tap room sells beer, by the glass or growler. They do have sampler sizes but why embarrass you self, just get a pint of everything. This place is hard to find it is two rows of warehouses off of grant, there are no signs that can be seen from the street and even one you make the turnoff it can be hard to spot. Inside there is a small bar, a few tables and a drink rail. The chairs a basic plastic a metal and the tables are industrial metal , not a date place. I like many of the beers, the aroma of the IPA here is great, at is the smoky porter. I was not a huge fan of their quad but overall this place is good. Pints range $4-5 which is not bad but if I am going straight to a no frills tap room maybe $3-$4 would make more sense. There is no popcorn or any other food as I said before, but food trucks do frequent the parking lot here. read more

I'm from Massachusetts. We know our beer (to say the least). This is the best damn brewing company in Arizona. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise (although I hear AZ Wilderness in Gilbert is really great, I have yet to make the trip up there). My favorites thus far: IPA (because of course) Unihopper (Citra/Nelson were great; would love to see galaxy or mosaic) Monsooner (dortmund-style lager!) Stronghold Session (english dark mild-sorta!) Munichorn (munich style dunkel! underrated style!) Santiago (vienna lager; modelo-nego-kinda!) Fumacabra (mesquite smoked bock!) Westerbru (hoppy lager collab with New Belgium; would love to see this come back!) They're always coming out with something "New 'n Tasty" (Oddworld reference-- sorry!). First of all we won't mention all of the Tucson breweries which have either gone to crap or started with crap. Not this one though. They're off to a strong start. It's just a bit of an effort to make it in with the limited hours they're opened. A good new brewery. No bad funk here like another nearby brewery which I have had the misfortune to experience. This place is still a bit green on experience. The beer could be served a bit less green. This one has the potential to approach the best brewery in Tucson with some more time, resources, and experience. I would normally give them 3 stars for this type of beer (relative to what's available in this country) but I can taste that they're not making any bad blunders and are off to a good start so I'll give them 4 since they're definitely already ahead of most of the rest (relative to all of the other Tucson establishments). read more

Just like the Wu Tang Clan... Dragoon's beer ain't nothin' to ef with. These gents had a clear plan from the get go... make awesome beer without growing too big too quick. They have a loyal following for a good reason - their beers are phenomenal, and they're very involved in the local beer community. As far as their taproom goes, we love it - small and intimate. Dragoon is already a Tucson powerhouse and they continue to expand - All self distributed, I might add. I like the business model of this place. It's definitely just focusing on the beer. Don't go here expecting anything else, they have a tasting room, but that's it. Honestly the environment is a little stale so I don't think going there to hang out and taste beer would really be quite the nice experience as it is at places like Borderlands. My husband really likes the beer. I'm not a beer drinker so I have no comment, but he is and he likes it so there you go. You can trade in a growler (from any place) for a new growler for a much reduced price. So that is definitely the way to go! My only problem with this spot is the staff. When we were in there they were super super standoffish and slow. Like they didn't want to sell us anything and were annoyed we were there. It was kind of uncomfortable. But everyone at the get together we took the beer to loved it so I guess I can handle a few minutes of uncomfortableness! read more

I love Dragoon! I have drank in the tap room several times, and it is always a good time. Good beer, good people! They usually have a food truck outside, and you can bring in outside food since they do not serve food there. My favorite beer is the session, but I like to try all of them! They are always coming out with new brews and I look forward to trying their collaboration beer with New Belgium. Get their early to get a seat, this place fills up fast! So I got kidnapped for my brithday last week and my awesome friends decided to bring me to places I had book makred on Yelp to try out. This was on the top of the list. After sampling the yummy brews at the Ye Old Yelp Event in December 2014, I was hooked. First off, the place is a bit hard to find. But its almost like a tresure hunt because you know what you will be getting as a reward...awesome microbrews. One you get inside, it reminds me of a hip industrial brewery that you need an invite to get in. I felt pretty cool let me tell ya. A bunch of industrial tables, a long lean bar with unbecoming taps behind the bar tenders, and the wall-o-brews as I call it on the wall, just waiting for you to pick your poison. You can get a sample taste, a full pint, or a growler to bring home, all at decent prices for Tucson (Around $5-15). I went with the #7 Scout Porter that was brewed in late November 2014. Yum! The subtle smoky-ness with the rich chocolate undertones was a must, although you could count this as a meal! My friends and fellow yelpers who joined me tried the #5 Fumacabra, which I will now call the bacon beer. It tastes like you have just drank the smoke from a bacon fire. ha ha. Also on the wall-o-beer they let you know what it might taste like just in case you werent sure on going all in for a taste. Fab! Right now they have 11 beers on tap ranging from IPA to barrel-aged goodness. So if you are in the Silverbell/Grant area and are looking for some up and coming brew-ness, try and find it behind the insdustrial buildings and take a gander. Great hidden brewery in Tucson that has almost tripled the size of the tap room from what I experienced almost a year ago. The staff is always polite, willing and ready to answer any questions about the beers on tap or upcoming beers. I am not a fan of all their beers, there is generally 2-3 that I like as recently most of their beers have been darker versions, but it was fun to get tasting flights and try some beers I have never had before. Most nights there is a food truck parked in front of this brewery that is hidden in a warehouse. I haven't tried any of the trucks but I love seeing two local businesses supporting and advertising each other. There growler system was a bit surprising, according to the person that served us they only take Dragoon Growlers because they just switch it out with one of theirs they know is clean. This is the first brewery that has ever refused to use a growler from another brewery. Unsure if it is because they do not have the system to clean growlers like most breweries, saving on costs strategy or what. But she ended up only charging us for the beer and gave us two free growlers (we had two growlers from different Arizona breweries) which was very sweet, but it seems like this system might be costing them money..? Living in Phoenix I am excited to start seeing them on tap on some of my favorite local watering holes, makes me a bit homesick. I love that Tucson and Phoenix are becoming more and more recognized for their breweries. read more

Beer Stop 99 ---- Dragoon is the best brewery in Tucson and its not even close. Some other breweries might have a larger selection of brews and greater distribution, but Dragoon has the best IPA and friendliest staff. Seriously. Their IPA can go against any great IPA taste wise. Just a really great brew. Not knocking their other stuff, but this IPA was a highlight for me. /Will be back if in Tucson again. read more

As a Phoenix native and just visiting Tucson; Dragoon was the most well-known to me and had the best reputation, so I was looking forward to here the most. Being so well-known, I was shocked at how small the taproom was. I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way tho; it has a charming local-hotspot taproom vibe. Honestly, I think this brewery is growing and could benefit from a larger taproom. Anyways, their beers are great. I've had the Dragoon IPA many times in Phoenix and is a good solid IPA. New beers we tried here are the Florecita; an IPA with hints of floral notes and is quite refreshing. The Half Moon was also a great beer with hints of banana and clove, highly recommended. Overall, I think they could expand their tiny taproom into something awesome, and has the potential to be a Tucson powerhouse and should distribute more of their beers. read more
