Well I finally made it to Dragoon Brewery! I've been drinking their IPA for a couple of years now and just couldn't get the time to visit. Came here after a football game and fell in love with the brewery very quickly. Reminded me of a lot of the great breweries I've visited in San Diego. Located in an industrial area, actually all the way behind a building, it was a little hard for me to find at night. Once I found it you walk into the small tasting room. TheT had a food truck parked here on the night that we visited which was cool. I had a sampler which had all the beers they were serving. Came out to $11 for I believe 8 beers. All the beers were good and I loved the Rye Imperial IPA! Man I wish they would can that for me.lol. Like typical small independent breweries there is always a charm when you can sit in a tasting room with other craft beer lovers. I felt that instantaneous with Dragoon. Good vibes, great beer and I'll be back!!! read more

Dragoon Brewing - Breweries Near Me - Tucson, Arizona

This is a good brewery in Tucson, AZ. I was visiting my parents in the area and wandered in. My first impression is mostly that the place is impossible to find! It's in the back of an industrial complex that you have to drive down a dark, unlit service road to get to. I'm used to craft breweries in some obscure places, but some better signage would be much appreciated next time! Or maybe even just some lights on the road? But, as for the actual beer- I got a barleywine and their seasonal lager, both of which were excellent beers. They both had a rich, nutty flavor that I enjoyed. I generally prefer sour beers, lagers, and wheat ales, and their menu had more IPAs than anything, but they did have some options for everyone. And I adore barleywines when their available, so props for having that! The brewery has a good vibe to it, definitely tapping into the industrial complex feel. Was a pretty quiet night when I was there, but I'm curious to see how it is on a busier night! Service was a little poor. There were 2 bartenders, both seemed a little distant. They had some regulars visit who they were quite social with, but seemed otherwise distant/formal towards everyone else. Overall a good, solid brewery. Loses points for me on location, variety, and service. read more

Truly one of the best breweries/taprooms I have ever been to. This place is beautiful, clean, and spacious inside and I've enjoyed coming here with friends to hang out with some flites, as well as just coming here to get some growlers filled. The staff is very knowledgeable about their products and are great at making suggestions on what to try next. I also really like the fact that there is usually a food truck outside - varying from pizza to burgers to ramen. I'm always excited to come here again and again to see what new brews they've whipped up! read more

The best beer in Tucson, if not the state. Their flagship IPA is a must-have while their ever-changing menu of beers are also a refreshing change of pace for non hop-heads. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly while the food trucks out front are super tasty. read more

This one brewery single-handedly changed my view of the entire state of Arizona. Call me narrow-minded, but I had kind of shrugged off Arizona as a retiree state. Now I admit, I was wrong to judge a book by its AARP enrollment. Dragoon Brewing, like most good breweries, is tucked away in a warehouse in a nondescript section of town. The entrance is around back, and a little hard to find. Despite the popularity, there is plenty of parking. The beer list at Dragoon is incredibly varied and creative. The day I was there they had everything from a tart, crisp gose to a beer that tasted like a campfire. Each beer was unique and well crafted. The standouts for me were the gose, the Unihopper with Nelson hops, and the IPA. read more

I very split on what rating to give. It was going to be a golden 5, but I'll get to that in a bit. Dragoon is tucked away in a somewhat industrial area which seems per usual for breweries in Tucson. The night I went, they had an Indian food truck in the parking lot (Indian food in Tucson!? Sure, why not). While waiting for the food, my big group headed in to get our beers. Someone in the group got a taster of all the beers being offered and it came out to about $32, not too bad. I personally just went with a flight of 4, which you write down on a paper and they bring to you. I must say, all the beers I tried were really good and high quality. And you can even see through a window inside that they take good care of the brewing equipment. We even saw then cleaning as we were there. Now the biggest issue came after we left... Wait, after we left?? Yeah, we left and continued our brew quest over at Nimbus. One of our guys left his card at Dragoon though and didn't notice til we had gotten to our next site. He instantly called them and said that he was coming straight back. By the time we had gotten there, they CUT HIS CREDIT CARD. What? Why? Who does that!? At minimum, you should hold it for a day or two. I just can't wrap my head around their logic of cutting his card. Anyways. Fortunately their beer is hella good and that's their savior for this review. Dragoon, please train your staff how to handle incidents like that better... I mean you are serving alcohol and people are getting drunk, cards will be forgotten. read more

Dragoon Brewing - Clean equipment, excellent beer. - Breweries Near Me - Tucson, Arizona

If you enjoy craft beer this is your place. This is the story of a couple guys home brewing and expanding their dream full scale. Well they are off to a good start. On the menu this week is IPA, Session, Russian Imperial Stout, and a Saison Blue. Over the last 2 weeks I have tried them all. So far they are all excellent. The hours are limited to thursday, friday, and saturday. Check their website for times. Since they don't have food they invite a different gourmet food truck for snacks. Good move boys. After a couple beers I'm ready for a little something to munch on. The only draw back of Dragoon is the tasting room. There is a lack of tables and decor. Get there early to get a seat or do what I do. Wait till they start the tour of the brewery and grab the seats of the people that get up. If not you will be standing. read more

Tried five different brews, the IPA, Fumacabra, BA Scout Porter, Bier del Bac, and Stronghold Session. All were great quality, even if not really to my taste. The IPA is definitely worthy of the hype I read about online. There was a poutine food truck outside when were there, but we had just eaten at Barrio, or else I definitely would've tried that out. Overall a great destination for beer lovers in Tucson, glad that there is a local brewery that I can hit up when I visit my parents in the future. read more

It's a blessing having brewing quality of this caliber locally. While there's certainly some beers I prefer over others, there's nothing that these guys make that isn't top notch brewing. They really do stand out from their local brewing counterparts and deserve the local pride. Dragoon IPA has become a staple at home and about town for me but I really love the barrel aged offerings at the brewery. Keep 'em coming! read more

A great new microbrewery off to a strong start, Dragoon Brewing serves up a mix of standards along with unique brews to offer a range of beer drinking experiences. The current lineup included their IPA, Stronghold Session Ale, Biere del Bac, Scout Porter and E. River Collaboration Saison. The stronghold stood out with its herbal flavor profile accentuated by hints of wood and caramel, all with minimal alcohol behind it. Up a different alley, the dark saison was the first of its kind in my experience and I really enjoyed the mix of bright yeasts with dark fruit. Flights, pints and growlers are all available here and at fantastic prices to boot. Best wishes to these folks! read more

If is wasn't for the Dragoon truck parked semi-near the street, we never would have found this place. The tasting room is all the way back behind the industrial buildings, so if you think you may have missed it, you probably haven't driven back far enough. The taproom has very high ceilings and it feels so open and industrial. The bartender told us that almost all the building supplies in the taproom were salvaged. There is a huge chalkboard with the beer selection. I loved how they dated every beer so you know exactly when each was tapped. My husband was head over heels for their double IPA and I loved the saison. read more

The biggest thing we noticed is they changed their beers to winter brews. It was better than last time. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The beers were good not great again. The whiskey barrel aged beer was better then most places. The other three we tried including the Russian Imperial were decent but not outstanding. The winter beers were better then the summer beers. That being said Dragoon is middle of the pack for Tucson breweries. Alley enjoyed getting some love from the other patrons as well as eating some treats read more

I think Dragoon is the best brewery in Tucson. Their namesake IPA is solid and their other offerings are legit for whatever style they are going for. I have found that the IPA tastes best here vs. a bar you might get it at... I don't know why... maybe because it tends to be fresher here (ie made the same week). The space is located in an strange industrial area but there is plenty of space to drink once inside. Worth a visit. read more

Nothing bad to say about Dragoon's brewery! They've excellently remodeled the brewery into a wide open seating area, long bar, and windows to view their equipment. Since first going years ago while at UofA, I can tell you they are on the right path! Excellent beer and very open/welcoming brewery, need I say more? Go! read more

Dragoon is one of my favorite breweries in town. Many of their seasonal beers are amazing, and they always have something interesting and different on tap. I love the saison and the Ojo Blanco in the summer. And the IPA is my favorite go-to; it's just an excellent beer. I love to attend the Bakasana and Beer yoga classes that are offered here every other week. $5 for a great yoga class with an awesome instructor and a beer at the end is pretty phenomenal. I very much liked attending Dragoon events, especially the anniversary party, but I likely will stop going to those. Dragoon staff, I implore you to stop allowing people to bring kids into your taproom. They were rampant at the anniversary party especially, and I see kids in the taproom almost every time I'm there. I witnessed a lady changing her baby's diaper on a table. This seems to be an overwhelming trend in craft beer establishments in Tucson. First of all, it's not safe and seemingly a liability for Dragoon. Second, I really do like children, but when I'm going to a brewery that doesn't serve food and IDs me to order a pint, I am interested in hanging out with other adults and not hearing kids screaming and getting bumped into by unsupervised, bored kids running through the taproom. read more

You have to hit up this tap room. Dragoon is a staple of Tucson. I first had their brew at a local wing joint on tap and it left me craving more. I stumbled on this tap room in all its splendor. This is the source, people, this is where the nectar flows. Orpheus was the hot thing when I was last there, and their barrel aged stouts is like eating chocolate while drinking whiskey. This is on my list of places to hit up before I leave Tucson and you bet your ass I'm leaving with a growler. Just a heads up: food is not dependable. Unfortunately dragoon does not have a kitchen so they depend on food truck. The truck is not always great and it's not always there. read more

True to their craft they offer outstanding beer and nothing else. they pay attention to the customer and the product. No distractions. Easily the best beer in Tucson. Great experience. Owner is awesome, love the selections. Even going to hold an event there.

The beer at Dragoon was our favorite of the Tucson area breweries (well, of the four we made it to). We ordered several small tasters. I enjoyed their IPAS and one of the imperial stouts, I think it was the Ocho. Sad we missed the opportunity to take some home with us (so cool that they sell it). The space was great for our kids to eat and run around. It was very nice and low key when we were there. Not loud and lots of space to sit and relax. They do not serve food. You can order in or bring in what you want and sometimes they have a food truck. read more

Dragoon Brewing - This will save me time ordering. Maybe you will use it to. - Breweries Near Me - Tucson, Arizona

This place is very conveniently located for us for....reasons. I love their beer selection, now that they have added some more mainstream brews. Many of my friends are domestic beer only peeps, so there needs to be something that fits their palate, and Dragoon has figured this out. The place has expanded quite a bit, and that is probably why. Some out of town beer aficionados came by with me and they loved their selection. Dragoon now has something for everyone, if you haven't stopped in for a while, check it out. It is on my 'Tucson beer tour list'. read more

After a really unpleasant first trip to Dragoon well over a year ago -my initial grievance was with the attitude of the staff- I have been back several times since and have never again had a bad experience. Though they don't make my favorite beer in Tucson, I can say with a pretty high degree of confidence that Dragoon is Tucson's most consistent and well-crafted brewery, rivaling the attention to ingredients of PNW breweries with the industrial and chemical prowess of San Diego breweries. Seriously. I took a tour for their fifth anniversary, and it was led by one of their chief brewers, who holds a degree in chemical engineering. Aside from their beer, the interior of their taproom is as stylish as rustic-cum-industrial can get. Think a Restoration Hardware take on taprooms (e.g., Thorn St. in SD and Deschutes in Portland). They've got games behind the counter and plenty of space to play them with even large group sizes. They are not dog-friendly, which I do not understand and kind of a deterrent for going more regularly, in addition to their below-average location. Given their growth in the last five, and especially the last two years, I think it's safe to say that Dragoon is a pillar of the Tucson and Southern Arizona beer scene and is here to stay -and for good reason, all things considered. read more

Great place. Have been here a couple times and Stout (bartender's name) and Ashley are a pleasure to deal with. Dragoon really goes above and beyond to make sure any less than stellar experience is addressed so all parties are happy. My favorite brewery in Tucson! read more

So Tucson has a new brewery, and it's on the West side--perfect for those of us on this side of town. Don't let the hidden location deter you. Think of it as a fun scavenger hunt, where your reward is a tasty beverage, perfectly poured. When I have been by, there have only been a couple beers to choose between. The first is their IPA. A delicious offering for this hop head. The second selection is their take on a Session Ale. This darker ale was smooth and subtle. Perhaps a little too subtle for me. Or perhaps I had already ravaged my taste buds with all the hops from the IPA. Still, a good beer. If you're not sure which to go with, you can opt for a half-pint size instead of committing immediately to a full pint. But be warned, the half-size will only run about a buck cheaper than the big-kid's glass. I've been assured that more offerings, including a Russian Imperial Stout and perhaps some southwest-centric offerings are on the way. The staff are truly friendly and professional. Be sure to chat with them if you have any questions about their brew. Tours can be arranged as well. As for the setting--it's a hidden gem. For some reason, I love this aspect. You just aren't sure where you're really going on your first trip as it's located in the back of a series of warehouse-type structures. Even the door is nondescript. And you know, I can't even remember for the life of me if there is a sign on the door (although there is at least now a sign off Grant Rd.). Here's a hint--on the south side of the road, just east of Ace Hardware. My only real problem, and in a way it's a big one, is with the decor of the place. Simply put there isn't any. No really--there is no panache to this place at all. No signs, no fancy lighting, no fancy tables or bar. No jukebox. Nothing. While the beer is quite tasty, the atmosphere of this place just limits it to a place to grab a growler. I can't imagine hanging out in here anymore. It's just too sterile. I'm hoping they have plans to dress it up a bit as I'd love to have a new local watering hole on my side of town. Especially one that brews their own beer. We shall see what the future holds. If you haven't been by to sample Tucson's latest offerings on home-brewing gone commercial, you are missing out. Cheers! read more

Dragoon Brewing - The bar - Breweries Near Me - Tucson, Arizona

We went to Dragoon on Sat after seeing their beers featured at Cartel. Like the other reviewer said, the beers are outstanding, and we had a great time sitting at the bar. Mr. Food for Todd, an IPA man, seriously loved the IPA. Which says a lot. The Session is awesome, too. There's nothing else really like it in town. Dark, easy to drink, toasty! It sounds like Dragoon also has a number of other unique brews in the works, including some locally inspired beers. Don't expect a sexy, dimly lit bar, but sit at the counter, have a few beers, and you're guaranteed to have a good time. Already can't wait to go back! read more

I love beer. Pretty much all types of beer - I'm not picky, and while I consider myself pretty familiar with the different kinds of beer, I don't think I'm an expert and I would definitely not consider myself a 'beer snob.' That said, simply being a clean establishment that makes their own beer will get you three stars regardless of your product - I can appreciate that different folks have different tastes. So why not a better score? Because I'm comparing it to the other breweries in town (of which there are several in Tucson). The staff was nice enough, but a little full of themselves. I don't know if the two people working the tasting room were brewers or not, but they certainly were a little pretentious about their beer. They were bragging about how so-and-so had called them the best beer in town and whoever had given them such-and-such an award. That's cool and all, but when I watched a guy come up the bar and ask if they had any lighter options for his girlfriend, and the bartender responded with, "Oh, well, we would NEVER make a light beer!", that might mean you're kind of a jerk. Dude was there to spend his money just like everybody else, if you don't have what he's looking for, suggest a different option - I mean, it's beer, it sells itself. Don't ruin it. read more

Their beer is ubiquitous around this town but this was my first visit to their newly expanded taproom. Their space is austere, non-descript and, unless you know where to look, downright hard to find. You won't be dancing or doing karaoke here. There are no TV's, killer bar food (although I understand there are usually food trucks in their parking lot) or kitschy themes. That's probably good for other businesses because their beer is so good that, if they had those things, it just wouldn't be fair. I've had their IPA at a dozen places around town and I am a huge fan of it. I could swear, though, that the growler-full I took home was the tastiest yet. Of course, since I was there, I had to try a couple of their offerings. Their board showed the following offerings this day: Fumacabra - described as a mesquite smoked bock. That sounds as scary as the name suggests. Lazarus- Barleywine with an ABV of 13.75. They'll only give you a five ounce pour... for good reason. I asked for just a sample of this. Strong and sweet... it really did taste like wine. Double Red IPA - I thought I loved their IPA. This was just as good... maybe better. My timing was good as this had just been introduced the day before. Bier del Bac, Stronghold Session Ale, their signature IPA and others that escape my memory round out the menu. It's not close to me and that's probably a good thing cuz if it was... I would find myself here way more than I should be. read more

I'm a major beer snob, and am often disappointed in beer offerings at various places. However, Dragoon was fantastic! A little difficult to find, but just once. A simple rule to remember to find this place: Head west on Grant, and turn south right before the Arby's. Easy, even after you've already had a few beers somewhere else. Their IPA is fantastic! It's the closest thing to West Coast IPA to be found in Tucson. I like how I can get their IPA in many places in Tucson as well. Just check taplister.com for locations. The facility is a little small, but-- it's a tasting room! I've been to tasting rooms in San Diego (most of them actually) which don't even have chairs. At least we have chairs here! The pricing is very reasonable, considering all the micro brew price gouging going on at various bars in Tucson for growler refills and pints. A growler will cost $12 at Dragoon. Keep up the great work! read more

Bold statement time. A Tucsonan who claims to love beer but has not yet tried the beers at Dragoon is nothing. Yeah I said it! NOTHIIIIIING! I had the pleasure of trying all four beers they had on tap today, and every single one of them was a winner. My palette and beer knowledge are unfortunately not sophisticated enough to deduce exactly what flavors/essences I experienced, but I'm going to try my best. Seasoned beer snobs, feel free to roll your eyes at me. :P 1. The IPA: I typically find IPAs to be too dry and hoppy for my tastes, but I can even enjoy imperial IPAs as long as the beer effectively layers other flavors on top of the signature bitterness. Dragoon's IPA has very pronounced floral, fruity tones to balance the hoppiness. It's by no means sweet, but the aroma and flavor render this very hoppy beer (IBU: 85) extremely drinkable. 2. The Session: What a great example of a session beer. Relatively low in alcohol content (4.8%, whereas everything else here is above 7%), but packed with flavor -- Dragoon's session would be an excellent introduction to darker beers for people who typically keep it light. Hints of chocolate and caramel and lots of malt make this oh so smooth. 3. The Uno -- Russian Imperial Stout: Whether you're here or at one of the many places that carries this (1702, for example), do NOT drink this first, because it will demolish anything you taste afterwards. It's pitch black, extremely hoppy (IBU: 92), and as is tradition with the style, it rocks a high alcohol content (silly Russians!). It's also ranks among the best imperial stouts that I've ever had. -- poooooooossibly better than Old Rasputin. 4. The Saison Blue: This beer shocked me. When Matt, one of Dragoon's brewers, described it to me, he explained that their saison was extremely dry, yet the guy next to me contended that the beer was actually sweet. My take? They're both kind of right...? A tasty contradiction!....? The place is rather barebones. There's the bar, a few tables, and linear seating area against a wall, the brewery itself, and that's it. They do quick tours of the facility, so if you're interested in behind-the-scenes stuff, they'll gladly take you to the back and answer any questions you might have. If you want food with your beer, there's almost always a food truck sitting right outside. If you're a noob like me, you might initially feel a tad out of place, but that subsides right after the first sip, because after that all you'll want to do is talk about how delicious their beer is. read more

I'm new to town from Chicago and my chick pal here told me we should check it out. So we did. Man, what great brews. I'm an IPA drinker and their IPA was dee-lish. Hoppy enough to bite but also very smooth. It's quite sessionable. But look out, its potent. I was sufficiently hazy after just one. The downside, if that's what you can call it, is the lack of any ambiance. But that's OK. It's not a club or even a boozin' joint. It's a place for fans of beer to enjoy some damn fine beer. When I was in Chicago I worked at a beer-centric ad agency and we handled Leinenkugel and Henry Weinhard so we were always sampling other craft brews. I can state without reservation that I really enjoyed the IPA. Once the owners find their groove and open up with steadier hours, I sense more people will head over. It's tucked away but you're not going to be seen with your new clubbin' clothes. You're going for some damn fine beer. Have fun and enjoy. p.s. I though of it as very forward-thinking that they use an iPad to reconcile their orders. read more

i thought the atmosphere was perfect for a small brewery. Tucked away back of what seemed to be warehouses, where you really have to want to go there to find it. A few tables to sit at, and just enough room at a small bar. Minimal selection of beer choices, but the choices spanned a good range of beers-- lighter to dark and strong. No food inside, but a food truck was setting-up outside. That's ok, i just came to try the beer. Another excellent thing, no screaming kids. I'm not a kid hater, but i really dont think kids belong where there is drinking. There are usually enough obnoxious drinkers in bars that act like kids, dont need the real thing- and neither were here on this quiet saturday. i say give it a try, you'll like it. read more

Fantastic beer and great service. A couple things to know: -No food (they have food trucks that stop by) -Weird location. You have to drive around the back of the building and it's not well marked. Their bartenders are extremely helpful and attentive. They provided excellent recommendations and really cared about helping me find something I would enjoy. Finally, the beer. I got a flight of 4. I enjoyed all of the beers that I tried and will go back to try more. The highlights: Saison blue: medium to light beer. On the fruity/floral end of the taste spectrum. It has a sweetness but isn't overly sweet. Overall, a good representation of a saison. Scout porter: one of the best smoked porters that I've tried. The smoke was very well balanced and not overpowering. A dark beer but not heavy. I think it would go great with some bbq. read more

Dragoon is a must visit in Tucson. The new taproom is much larger than it was, a huge plus for how popular they are! There is a long bar, which means more spaces at the bar so you can talk to your bartender about the new beers on draft. I love the Ojo Blanco, they the standard Dragoon IPA is a oldy but a goody. They offer yoga (called bakasana and beer) on select Saturday's where you pay $5 to get a 1 hour class taught my Jade and then a pint. What a great Saturday in my book. Are you a fan of beer? If not pass on this place but if you answered yes get your butt down to Dragoon Brewing Company. This is a no frills place to have a great locally brewed beer. There are 4 beers on tap brewed about 20 feet away and all of them are super stealer (my fave was the Saison Blue, great beer for a hot summer day). The location is a bit off the beaten path (they are brewing beer in this warehouse you know) and they have limited hours but it is definitely worth the trip. Added bonus was Food Truck Foodie Fleet parked outside to provide an afternoon snack delish. read more

I heard so many good things about Dragoon. During my Arizona road trip I asked all sorts of people, including many brewery people, what breweries I should go to in Tucson and every single one said to go to Dragoon, that it was the best. The friends I stayed with in Tucson also said this was their favorite so of course we had to check it out. Maybe I was expecting too much but I ended up disappointed. The brewery feels too boring and sterile. The service was awful, the guy helping us was a total jerk. The beers were pretty good and interesting but not amazing.
