My family - four generations - have enjoyed Dragon Garden in North Attleboro center for decades. Whether we choose to dine in or take out, the food is always fresh, delicious and plentiful. If I order a luncheon or dinner special, I can basically get four meals from these generous portions. Having gone there today with a new friend, I ordered the luncheon special, vegetable lo mein with pork fried rice. We also ordered an appetizer of crab rangoon. Dragon Garden has been a fixture in downtown North Attleboro for decades. The food is consistently delicious and served piping hot and fresh to the table, or takeout. Last evening was busy being that it was Friday night at peak dinner time. Even so our server was friendly and efficient without being rushed. We shared an appetizer of crab rangoon amongst the 4 of us. Crispy and filled to the brim with cream cheese, crab meat, and scallions with just the right amount of savory and sweetness. Then on to the entrees, we shared a heaping bowl of Mei Fun noodles (always moist and delicious). 2 orders of D #11 (IYKYK) , Egg rolls, and a huge portion of Shrimp Chow Mein. All exceptional. We often frequent and enjoy supporting this all family run restaurant. On the main drag in the heart of town, this old school joint has a small L-shaped bar with sports decor and plenty of comfy booths around the corner with menus ready on the tables. Another in the brigade of those offering combos all the time. Chicken Wings in Oyster Sauce: Ten pieces in a dark sauce a little sweet, but mostly and intensely oyster-saucy, reminding me of what this dish used to taste like in the golden era of old school Chinese. Exteriors firm; interiors tender and moist. Exemplary flavor, even aside from the sauce. Very chickeny. Maybe a tad on the small side, but near-elite, and a bargain at barely a buck per piece. Sweet and Sour Chicken (on a combo): Five large chicken fingers, the size and shape of fingers from a baseball glove, with a sauce closer to orange than your standard fire engine red. Elements of both sweet and sour, but fairly neutral. Very good chicken-to-batter ratio helped offset a puffy, uncrisp exterior. At least seven pieces of fruit. Average or a bit above. Egg Roll (on the combo): Not technically included, but available as a $1 add-on. Not crisp. Excessively diced greenery and pale pork (and carrots) in the filling, and somewhat dry. Workable with the duck sauce and other additions, but ultimately below average. Pork Fried Rice (on the combo): Decent color, decent flavor, decent additions, decent feel. Somehow it all came together to be even more, rekindling memories of old time Chinese restaurant rice. Above average and very enjoyable. Promising visit, even with the shaky egg roll. Our waitress Ella was really great, friendly and personable never left us waiting while not smothering. We got the pupu platter for 2 and it was yummy, cooked crispy and flavorful. The pork fried rice had the sprouts which I absolutely hate, and was very sparse on the pork this time, but the lo mein which I didn't know I liked was loaded with pork and delicious. I normally get my Chinese food from a place in Plainville, but this time I decided to eat local. Was it worth it? Not necessarily. The food was ok. It was nothing special but certainly not exceptional or worthy of switching loyalties. I ordered two dishes, kung pao chicken and Mongolian chicken. I was disappointed that both dishes were served with the exact same base/sauce. I have enjoyed both of these dishes for literally decades and have never had them taste almost exactly the same. The only real difference was the kung pao had peanuts and peppers in it. The chicken pieces were also very large slices, much bigger than anticipated. I don't know if this was just how they make these dishes or if it was the result of lazy cooking, but it did make me question whether I'll return. read more

My husband and have lived in North Attleboro for 6 years and today we tried Dragon Garden for the first time. I thought I would never find a local Chinese restaurant that was better than the one we always go to in Plainville. Recently a few people mentioned how much they like Dragon Garden so we decided to try it. Are we glad we did! The food was delicious! The rice, egg rolls, beef with vegetables and General Gau's chicken was better than the restaurant we always went to. The portions were bigger too! I was convinced I wouldn't like it. Very poor quality food and the service was terrible. I was promised that everything was made fresh because I specifically asked this question due to the time of day I visited. They served me like warm fried rice and a soggy egg roll that you can tell was sitting there. I visited during a slow Sunday afternoon around 3:30 pm and there was just one other table seated in the whole place. After waiting 10 minutes for the waitress to come back (which she didn't, the owner had to help), I told the owner that everything was not hot. She took my plate and went back into the kitchen and few minutes later brought me out a fresh egg roll while the rice and chicken were prepared. When the rice and chicken came out, you could tell that the rice was freshly fried but they reheated the generals chicken and it was hot and soggy (as if it were reheated in the microwave). Bottom line, the waitress lied to me and they served me fried rice that was likely sitting in a big pan since noon. It was not fresh, it was over cooked and barely warm. The egg roll was also not crisp or freshly cooked. The only thing that was good was the chicken (when it first came out), but they decided to reheat it when my dish went back into the kitchen, instead of preparing a fresh meal after my complaint about the rice and egg roll. Will NEVER return and this was my first time ever at this restaurant. It's a shame that they didn't take the time to prepare me a fresh meal (especially since I asked). Found this place using Yelp and saw it had quite a bit of reviews so we decided to try it out. We called ahead like their website asked and they were very accommodating when we said we were 5 minutes away. We were promptly seated and our food was brought to us very quickly. We ordered the Dragon Pu Pu Platter and the Five Flavor Chicken, but that's when things went downhill. The Crab Rangoon in the Pu Pu Platter was a huge disappointment. It had no flavor or crab in it. The boneless spare ribs were the best part, had a nice sweet flavor to them. The rest of it was forgettable. The Five Flavor Chicken was One Flavor Chicken to be honest. It was very sweet and not spicy at all to our disappointment. Not what we expected. Overall, the food here was average and forgettable. The portions were generous! This restaurant used to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in North Attleboro. Over the last year or so the food has gone down hill. We ordered within the last week and the chicken lo mien has a weird smell to it and the fried rice was dried out. This not the first time in recent memory that my family has had problems. I used to love there Chicago chow mien. The last time I ordered it gave me a massive stomach issue. I will never order it again. After a road trip back from VT, I was just looking for cheap Chinese and my bf found this place via Yelp - great reviews so why not? Street parking only, so we ended up parking about a block down. When we got there, we witnessed the hostess arguing with a customer on the phone - granted, it wasn't really her fault but she was extremely rude on the phone with this customer in front of us, that should've been a sign! We were seated and our waitress really was the main reason for the 2 stars. She was so sweet and friendly. I felt bad b/c she was the only waitress working the restaurant the entire time we were there. I ended up with the Chicken/String Beans dinner combo and my bf got the General Tso's dinner comb. We both got pork fried rice, I went with a hot and sour soup and he got an eggroll. The soup was.......different. Seemed like it was a beef broth base and was extremely dark with overcooked pieces of beef in it - didn't taste very fresh, like it had been sitting in a pot all day. If I had known, I wouldn't have gotten it - I'm used to chicken stock base with pieces of pork or just tofu/veggies. The fried rice was sufficient, nothing special. The sauce on the chicken/string beans wasn't bad but not great. My bf didn't like his dish at all. The sauce on the general tso's chicken was more like a sour orange based sauce vs sweet/spicy. COVID takeout days... I got the staple General Tso Chicken (I know, I should know better than to order such a dish). Very large pieces of (white) meat coated in a decent layer of breading+sauce. I'm writing this in complete shock from the rude customer service I just received over the phone . The woman that answered, who is the usual woman at the register, ( I recognized her voice) was yelling & saying "it's busy, you come down I show you" when I asked what's the between a lunch special & a regular order and about how many people can it feed. As I'm translating what she is telling me about the food & pricing into my native language for my mother, the woman on the phone began yelling " you don't know what you want , I tell you already, not many work today, it busy, I spend too much time talk to you" & started speaking Chinese. As you can see in my screenshot, the lasted 3 minutes. English is not the primary language spoken in my household & I was repeating everything she said in order to confirm I heard correctly through her accent, to then translate so that when my immigrant mother goes to pick up the food, there won't be any misunderstandings & miscommunication. I'm extremely disappointed & hurt that the employee at the register/ answered the phone, who is also an immigrant didn't have the patience for another immigrant & could not regulate her emotions, so instead she projected her frustrations at me. We had an issue with the taste of a portion of our combination plates that the server brought to the attention of the owner. The owner defensively approached our table and basically said the item was freshly cooked and there was nothing wrong with it (meals were served within minutes of ordering) and we had to request it to be remade. The item was brought out hot but tasting the same which was completely tasteless. Although the server followed up with us, the owner did not. We have a choice of where we eat and after this experience it will not be at this restaurant. The owner should value her customers more and take any concerns seriously. Dragon garden looked from the reviews to be one of those hidden gems that could become a regular favorite of ours. Unfortunately it seems that the reviews led us more than a bit astray. As far as the good bits of this restaurant, I found the serving sizes were quite generous and there was plenty of seating. Sadly, the service was incredibly slow and inattentive, likely due to under staffing I'd guess (we only saw our waitress twice or so, couldn't get refills and waited quite a while for our food and to place our order. On top of the questionable service the food came out a slight notch below standard, certainly edible but relatively bland for Chinese food. Though the fried chick n wasn't bad, the non fried chicken was tough enough to not get eaten and not be taken home (mind you we hate wasting food so this is a very rare occurrence!) I was really hoping this would be the go to Chinese place near us, but we were unfortunately quite disappointed. I'd recommend most Chinese buffets above this place. read more

The food was very simple. The pork in the fried rice tasted as though it had been frozen a while, and the General Tso chicken was different and just not for me.
