Delicious! Never miss Chinese spot! Pork lo mein is especially good but order anything.

Have been going here a while, not sure why I haven't left a review! One thing for sure is they are always speedy at lunch. My call in is always ready before I get there. Portions are good and the food is HOT. It will need to cool down when you get it. If you like "Chinese food" then this place won't let you down. read more

Dragon City - Shrimp Lo Mein - Chinese Near Me - Norfolk, Virginia

The young Asian female who did the delivery to my mother's house today, was rude. She did not confirm if the order was correct. She snatched the receipt out of my 80-year-old mothers' hand before she could finish signing it. Acted as if she did not want to be bothered. She barely opened her mouth even when given a tip. read more

Chinese takeout with a great vegetarian selection. I was on a road-trip and decided to check this place out. I'm not one to shy away based on location, but do note that it's not in the best part of Norfolk. This is a take-out place, although there are a few small tables. I assume they're just for staff and/or customers to wait at. I ordered the Hunan Vegetarian Chicken and it took less than 10 minutes to be ready. The portion itself was very big and I could barely eat half of it. The dish had a solid kick of spice to it. Not too much, but keep this in mind if you're not too big on spicy foods - it's certainly not mild. The imitation meat was good and had a very soft texture, which I liked, because at some places vegetarian chicken can be quite tough. The meal included a nice variety of vegetables, including plenty of broccoli. All in all, I'd definitely come here again to try other things. The staff was friendly and the service was fast. As for the prices, they're also good. Most lunches come to about $6 and dinner portions are around $10. Special items are higher, as expected. read more

Dragon City - Hunan vegetarian chicken. - Chinese Near Me - Norfolk, Virginia

Very underrated Chinese takeout spot. Absolutely recommend their food. Orange beef is banging. Hunan chicken is on point. Arguably the best dumplings in Norfolk. They serve thin skin dumplings that give the perfect amount of crisp and chewy when you get them. Hot and sour soup is actually hot and sour. Even the steamed rice is perfectly cooked. Not too sticky, not too mushy, perfectly cooked every time. And big bonus points for their chicken wings! Really. Big, crispy, meaty, juicy and then some. I really really REALLY love their food. So here's the thing. Order the food and pick it up. If you're in the delivery area, good luck. Twice now I've ordered delivery and they've called my phone saying they don't know where my address is. I live in an apartment whose address is on a major street (Hampton Blvd) with heavy traffic. There is a parking lot right next to the building. Since they can't find my address I come down to the front of the building to meet them. They stop in the middle of the road and block an entire lane of traffic on a four lane major road and try to hand me the food out of the car window. I tell the driver to pull off the road into the parking lot or just off on the side street. Because they should really not block traffic on this major road. And on top of this, I've already tipped them for delivery but instead I'm out of my apartment, standing in front of my building, and trying to tell this person to NOT block a major street. But the dude yells to me from behind the wheel, "It's cool. Just take the bag" as people behind him are hitting their brakes trying to not hit him. And this has happened to me twice. TWICE. Yeesh. So yeah, I really like their food. Good prices and great portions. Please order here and for God's sake, go pick it up and save some cash. read more

I think I've had just about everything on the veg menu by now, except the "seafood" analogues, which I don't care for, and the "curry" dish(es?). Something I failed to mention the last time I reviewed was how exceptionally sweet and friendly the staff are. Most places, when you order and wait for your order, they'll bag it up and shout at you from behind the counter. Not so with Dragon City. This makes me very very happy. My favorites are the veg dumplings, General Tso's... Well, anything, really... And the orange and sesame "chicken" dishes. Always ask for a little extra spice, since I'd rate their spice level a little milder than others. I've mentioned the HUGE portions, right? And delivery? And awesomeness? And deliciousness? Yes? Ha! Good. If you haven't eaten here, you're seriously missing out. read more

I don't understand why it this place doesn't have more stars?!? I'm new to the area, so I'm getting my usual places all set up. This is the first Chinese food I've tried here. It is WONDERFUL. The food is inexpensive, well flavored, comes in generous portions, and it's prepared quickly. The staff (owners?) Are friendly and although they don't speak super good English (uhh, NOT a priority for me at a Chinese place!!), they are helpful! Like other reviews, you may not want to eat IN the restaurant as it's not the nicest place. They deliver and you can get it to go!! Very good food at a great price! read more

New ownership canned all the amazing vegan options. You can still get standard Chinese takeout but it doesn't hold a flame to the old DC. I'm not crying, you're crying! read more

I ordered General Tso chicken combo. The outside of the chicken pieces were over cooked and very tough. . While waiting to pick up the order, the cook in the back was killing flies. I will not order from this establishment. read more

My first time here, ordered via phone as I left ODU they said ten minutes I was there in five minutes I paid and food was ready! Good timing, great service, location is by the food lion plaza. I ordered one item the shrimp chow Mein (expected thin, crispy noodles) nope didn't get that. Apparently once I called cashier explained it's just cabbage in a white/clear sauce it tasted fine I just felt like it was more of a soup with a whole lot of celery cabbage and onions! Good amount of shrimp very bland seasoning but somehow flavor was ok. My meal came with a side of rice that was good! The crispy chip/noodles it came with were very stale as they were generously put in my bag! This is a TO GO spot don't stay and eat it's not pretty! I'll use them again for a Chinese fix as their menu is better than Kin woks and they're on my way home from work. Lo Mein INSTEAD of Chow Mein next time. read more

UPDATE: After having their Hunan Veg Chicken, I've got to move this up to five stars!!! Holy moly! I have only been to Dragon City once, so I'll come back and update this as I try more of their food. Dragon City is really a hole-in-the-wall type of place, and easy to miss. As Amber said, they only take cash, but there is a Bottom Dollar next door with an ATM (that I had to take advantage of!). The interior does not look very nice at all. Honestly, I would describe it as grungy. HOWEVER, the food is excellent. They have a pretty massive menu, and a separate vegetarian menu (which is pretty sizable itself!). Their mock meats are crazy good. I had the vegetarian pepper steak, and my husband had the vegetarian sesame chicken. We both wolfed our food down greedily. Our dishes also came with vegetarian spring rolls, which were very tasty. I was wishing for more! It's also worth mentioning that the girl at the front counter was very pleasant and friendly. Overall, I give Dragon City 4 stars. read more

UPDATE: New ownership means their vegan menu is gone. They still offer some tofu dishes, but now there is nothing to set them apart from any other Chinese takeout. Order delivery if you want to avoid the shady strip mall. Or put on your brave face and stop by the super-convenient liquor store next door! read more

I was in Norfolk for work and had to give this place a try because of their extensive vegan menu. We tried the veg sesame chicken and the veg General Tso's chicken. Both dishes were GREAT! The GT could have been spicier but I think they can up the spice if you ask them. All the veg dishes come with a spring roll and vegetable fried rice. I wish they had told me about the spring rolls coming with the meal so that I wouldn't have ordered more. Oh well, we ended up with four greasy, but delicious, spring rolls! The veg fried rice was bland and mushy so I would go with the white rice next time. We ordered take-out as this isn't really a sit down place. The food was ready in 10 minutes and everything was hot. The portions were huge! I would definitely go back next time I'm in Norfolk! read more

I would give this place zero stars if I could. While I liked this place for greasy takeout, the restaurant is dirty and disgusting. Still, they have vegetarian Chinese food. Which is why I put up with the fact that they charged me a different amount (so shady) each time I called and ordered the same thing. Tonight they misplaced my order, delivering my food to someone else's house and someone else's food to mine. Most restaurants would just resend out new fresh food, no problem. Not this place. This awful woman refused to make fresh food. Saying I could have a refund of my money or take the food which has been at someone else's house being touched and god knows what. Nasty. I asked for my money back and told her I have never been treated so poorly. I will never order from there again. She didn't even apologize, she just hung up on me. Wtf! read more

Dragon City is the epitome of all Chinese take out. I adore the food contained in those grease stained brown bags of theirs. I can't even help myself from ripping past the staples and practically swallowing the vegetable spring rolls on my way home. Dragon City is a danger to everyone on the road with me having their food in tow.The vegetarian General Tso's chicken is lucky if it escapes me for ten minutes. One of the many fantastic aspects of Dragon City are there sizes. A "meal" is actually two or three and easily sharable. Their can't miss items are never ending. They have amazing dishes for vegans or meat eaters. The vegetable potstickers, or dumplings, are just incredible. The only draw back is that their sitting consists of one, maybe two tables which usually serve simply for waiting for the food. The staff and cooks are super friendly and will get you in and out as fast as they can. They seem to know I am always in a rush of excitement to get my food. Embarrassing? Maybe. Worth it? Of course. There is little more to say about Dragon City other than buckle up. read more

Dragon City is a great greasy Chinese takeout. Make sure you check out their separate vegetarian menu. Plenty of awesome dishes with really GOOD fake meat. The shrimp is scarily close to what real shrimp is like. My favorites: Veg Shrimp Lo Mein Veg General Tso's Chicken Veg Shrimp w/ Garlic Sauce Veg Spring Rolls Cash only & take out only. read more

0 stars if possible. Customer service is terrible she yelled and cursed at me over the phone. Before the delivery driver even left I told him I got the wrong item and asked for a refund I called the restaurant she was unbelievably rude I work 12 I was on my hour break and planned to eat when it got there the driving apologized to me and says she's usually this rude after asking for a refund I was told from her the order was made you have to pay for it instead of being refunded I was charged for the completely wrong order the driver was talking to my manager About how this isn't the first time this has happened read more

Delicious food for meat eaters and vegans alike! I have enjoyed Dragon City dozens of times. It's kind of a hike for us to get there (about 25 minutes) but completely worth it. My fave is the Veg Sweet & Sour Chicken which is oddly off their newest copy of the menu. If you ask, they will make it for you. The veggie shrimp dishes are also pretty good. My mom says that their meat dishes are excellent. I am not a big Chinese food fan so the fact that I sometimes crave their food is quite telling! We only get take-out. There are a couple of tables but I have never actually seen anyone eat there. read more

Every Chinese place around here has tofu, but this is the only place I've found nearby that does mock chicken and beef. And it tastes amazing too! Takeout Chinese is pretty basic, and a lot of the places all taste the same, but if you're a vegetarian or vegan you owe it to yourself to come here just to get away from the tofu. The only negative thing I have to say they have two nighttime delivery drivers and one of them absolutely refuses to get out of his car and even come up to our apartment even though I order from them at least biweekly. And it's not a safety concern, because he still won't get out of the car even if it's light out. read more

Dragon City is great Chinese food and even awesomer if you are a fellow veg head or vegan. They have a sizable all vegetarian menu, and every item is tasty. My favorite is their Singapore Curry veg Chicken. I only always get this dish. The owners are totally awesome, the staff are all very friendly and hospitable and for cheap but delicious Chinese food, you can't go wrong. They always remember me and know exactly what I get and are fast- such great service! Have I mentioned their extensive vegan menu? So good. Yum yum. Also, they accept only cash. read more

I can't say enough good things about Dragon City. My first time ordering from here. I placed my order online. My usual Chinese takeout place is still temporarily closed due to the Corona virus and I've had a hard time finding a place that has the spicy string beans that I love. They have them! I ordered a variety of food. The prices are comparable to other restaurants. The food arrived on time, was scorching hot and delicious! The delivery driver couldn't have been nicer! I'll definitely be ordering from them again! read more

People, my boyfriend went here to pick up something vegan based on the reviews here, but the person at the counter kept giving him the vegetarian menu. They're not the same thing, yo. So either people don't know the difference, or the counter chick couldn't communicate. Regardless, since he couldn't be sure, he left. Bummer. read more

It's so wonderful to find a Chinese takeout place in the area that is not only delicious, not only affordable, but really knows how to saute and cook tofu to perfection! Also, their white rice is amazingly sticky, yet firm, and everyone that I have had the pleasure to speak to has been very nice. In my opinion, it doesn't get much better than this! Thanks, y'all! :) read more

The food here is so good it's actually worth the risk you take of getting shot or mugged walking through the parking lot--a risk you can actually avoid completely by ordering delivery, so there you go, problem solved, Dragon City is perfect, boom. Get the Hunan bean curd if you think you can handle being transported to an alternate realm of pure gustatory delight. read more

I just want to share my experience real quick. I tried to order by phone but felt they were very rude on the phone. After discovering they did not deliver in a 3 mile radius they just hung up the phone, no sorry or goodbye or anything. read more

Used to love getting vegan food here, but they changed owners and got rid of mostly all the vegan food. Wish they would bring it back.

Don't order extra meat. They will take your money and not give you extra meat. Sort of like stealing. If you call them, they will yell at you in Chinese. Not a whole lot of other options in the area so you are stuck with mediocre Chinese food (and no extra meat). read more

Vegan Chinese Food that is really Good!!!

It just wasn't good. There is too much that is better in the area. It didn't taste fresh. A lot of the vege was overlooked and soggy. I didn't taste Asian spice. None of the items listed as hot and spicy were spicy at all. read more

Just moved to Norfolk and was looking for really good Chinese food...luckily we found Dragon City! The food was delicious and priced right. We had Sweet & Sour Chicken, Pepper Steak, and Chicken LoMein and everything was great! Egg rolls were good, but wouldn't recommend the Spring Rolls. This will be out new go-to for Chinese take-out :) read more

A previous yelp reviewer that praised the vegan general tso chicken was not bullshitting. It was indeed pretty good with a decent balance of tang and salt. The vegetable fried rice wasn't bad either, but tasted like any other fried rice you would find in a typical take-out restaurant that could use a bit more flavor. I recommend this place for vegetarians and vegans. read more

Best Chinese in Ghent! and I've been looking for the 15 months, only to be disappointed every where else I went. Kung Pao chicken was really good. Seemed to be all-white meat, and the portion was huge. Steamed dumplings (8) were good too. Everything ready in 10 minutes for pick-up. Service was very friendly, prices are typical for take-out. Hot and fresh! Downside- location. 23rd and Colley, in the Bottom Dollar plaza. It's a little scary at night, especially with a guy practically passed out at one of the tables. Maybe he was tired.... Anyway, food was still great! But you wouldn't eat there- you take it home or get delivery (min $10). read more

Though there are tons of places for vegans to eat out in Norfolk, Dragon City has quickly become our favorite weekday standby! We love this place for inexpensive, quick and filling vegan Chinese food. We live within the delivery area, but there's a $10 minimum, and it often takes up to an hour for the food to arrive. I do wish they accepted credit cards, but that might even detract from the "experience." As an added bonus, the people there are really friendly! EDIT: I've found a copy of their menu posted online; check it out: http://makingstuffanddoingthings.blogspot.com/2008/11/dragon-city.html read more

Great greasy Chinese food. The tofu broccoli is awesome with fried tofu in a sweet and savory brown sauce. I've also had the faux general tso chicken but i think that the sauce is a little too sweet for me. It's hard to believe that it's not real meat too. I usually get the veggie steamed dumplings and the moo shu vegetables. Both really great and these 2 dishes are not quite as greasy as some go the other vegan items The prices are really good too. Make sure that you ask for the veggie menu or cause you may not see these options on their regular menu. They have a lot of faux meat options like beef, chicken and shrimp. It's not in a great section of town but they do deliver which is very helpful. It's not an eat-in kind of place. They have a couple of seats but it looks like its for people who are waiting to pick up. read more

We ordered from them at 7:30 on a Wednesday and didn't get our food until after 9:30. Needless to say, the food was cold when it got to us. To add insult to injury, the delivery driver left the food at the restaurant in the bottom of our building instead of bringing it up to us!! read more

Worst customer service I've ever received from a restaurant. I had a great couple of experiences ordering delivery to my home so I introduced my colleagues to the menu. We love the food! The egg foo young is really awesome, but the delivery is often really slow and this time THEY MESSED UP OUR ORDER AND WANTED TO CHARGE EXTRA TO FIX IT. The woman I spoke to on the phone tried to tell me that she couldn't fix their mistake because they're a business and can't afford to fix their mistakes. We had been placing large orders at least once a week, but WE WILL NEVER ORDER FROM THIS PLACE AGAIN! read more

I was peeved at my regular Chinese delivery restaurant, so I decided to try a new one. Bad move on my part. I called to tell the restaurant how the delivery driver was to enter my apartment building, she said, "I got it," and hung up. Well, the driver didn't get it and not only was he unable to figure out how to enter, but also he called from somewhere else and asked if I lived there. It took an hour for the order to get here and it arrived cold. I ordered a dish that contained vegetables, meat, chicken and shrimp. There were huge hunks of undercooked chicken and the meat was way too tough to chew. I thought that all Chinese food tasted the same. I was wrong. Some of it is really bad. I rated two stars, because I'm hoping that this was just an off night for them. read more

Unbelievably slow delivery. Took an hour and a half and food arrived cold. Food quality was average; chicken fried rice had way too many onions. Will not order again. read more
