the buffet in latham is much better. but not larger. my review really goes all over on the rating charts so i decided to stay right in the middle. the service is fantastically attentive. they refill your drinks before you finish swallowing the last sip. they remove old dishes before you have a chance to decide against another trip up after gazing at the detritus of the last trip. they continually check to see how you are and if you need anything. the food - hmmm. there are 5 long tables with so many items that you will not be able to even sample them all. the farthest table had items like a huge (dried out looking) baked salmon, stuffed clams on the half shell, pizza (actually the pizza looked pretty good and two asian men took it while i was looking around. that cracked me up.), bacon rolled scallops and a few others along with a few deserts (they were on every table). the second table was filled with various chinese food dishes like ribs, sweet and sour chicken and shrimp and pork, pork fried rice etc. basically all of the items that make up a typical chinese menu. the third had various soups, more chinese dishes, salads, dim sum (that was Very dry and old) shrimp dumplings (that were vile), pork potsticker/dumplings (that were good but too bready), crab rangoon and crab legs. the fourth had fruit, various buns, sushi (that was old), crawfish, asparagus, green beans, oysters (that made me shiver at their color and consistency, some things just do not belong on a buffet) and other such items. there were also an assortment of all of the accompanying sauces on the tables. they have a mongolian bbq with crab, shrimp, chx, beef and pork along with an array of veggies and about 10 sauces to add as well. i was particularly pleased with the fresh ginger and garlic (there can Never be too much garlic). as always it is fun to watch them cook it and it is always tasty. my major problem was with the hong kong noodle soups they make. you had a choice of beef, chicken, pork, duck, shrimp and i think crab. i had seen someone else's that had a large chunk of very tender looking beef so i thought i would get a small bowl for my daughter and i to share. what i got instead of beef was 4 Huge chunks of fat, skin and gristle. the broth was fantastic but i was too frightened of the floating jiggley items to even do much with that. oh, they also have a large selection of cookies, jellos, brownies, cakes and the ever present ice cream machine that is every child's (and some adults') dream. kenz of course had to finish with a cone and some sprinkles. sadly (and this almost earned another star being knocked off) something i ate there has made me Very ill but that may simply be that i am getting old and my tummy has become more discerning. read more

The buffet has a good variety of Chinese and American food. In essence, however, there was too much grease on the Chinese and non-Chinese food alike. What the Dragon Buffet (& Motel) has that makes it better than most Chinese food places is the Mongolian Grill -- the healthiest alternative to what's on the buffet. You can add lots of vegetables and pick out the freshest-looking meat and it won't be fried. I had the Mongolian Sauce flavoring, though, and didn't care for it. At about 8pm on a Thursday, the Dragon Buffet (& Motel) seems to have slimmer pickings than it may have earlier in the evening. There were only a few dumplings left and it made me wonder whether the more "delicate" food had been left out too long (e.g., salmon, sushi). The biggest reason for the low rating is the quality / healthiness of the food. As it says in my profile, I just moved here from California, so I may just be used to a different level of quality. Or, it may be that Chinese food has a lot of greasy and fried foods (or, at least the Chinese food that Americans like to eat). Regardless, at $10 a plate, it's not likely that I'll return anytime soon, and certainly not at 8 pm on a weeknight. read more

This place gives Chinese buffet a bad name. I swear there are many places that are not like this. I had the worst experience with the service. I came with the tour and the waiter and waitresses treated me like crap. I asked for diet coke and the woman would not pour me diet coke and was arguing only water and regular soda. Like seriously? I complained to the tour guide... fixed the problem...kinda. two of my friends ordered regular soda. .. the waiter poured a half filled pitcher between my friends... one friend got 3/4 and the other got 1/4 filled. I mean it would be nice for them to come back with a new drink...nope.. they decided to stand around until we call them over and they pretended they dont see you. The staff are not friendly at all. This place has gone down hill fast. The service and the food suck. Food is over cooked and dry. The staff stands around and when you ask them for something they act like you are noy there, and when they do cometo you they are not friendly. The bathrooms are very dirty and smell. I found old food on the plates and my glass was dirty. When I told them about it they poured out my soda wipen out my glass with a towel and filled it back up. To the Owner/Manager of the Restaurant: I just wanted to file a formal complain and express how frustrated and dissatisfied I experienced, with customer service I had tonight in your restaurant (September 6, 2018 after 1900). Few days ago, I was referred by a friend to try Dragon bullet, It is our first time to come and experience it ourselves, so we are so excited but it gave us a bad impression when one of your waitress (short hair/shoulder level hair that wears black uniform) disrespected us as costumers. We already noticed earlier on as she came and asked us what drinks we wanted to order, no smile on her face, looks very unhappy and unwelcoming, which my husband even noticed prior to the bad experience we had. Myself and my father wanted to order a soup dish which in our knowledge as we are new we didnt know about. In other restaurants customers normally pick their plates/bowls and give to the chef. I didnt know that wasn't the case. As I was waiting for the chef, the same unhappy waitress just took the bowl without even explaining nicely what she was doing. She was so abrupt and rude, she said angrily, "You shouldn't take the bowl, tell the chef what you want." I then told her, you could've said it nicely. We don't know how to order so pls tell me nicely. She still responded, I am saying it to you. It was purely unprofessional and disrestpectful how this staff of yours treated me. I once a manager and I will not tolerate any behaviour as such. I am saying this as hopefully no customers will experience the same unacceptable attitude presented to us whilst in your restaurant/service/premises. this buffet was absolutely disgusting. i can't stress that enough. there was a really small selection and most of the food was cold & tasted disgusting. trust me, i CAN EAT. but it was just so unappetizing that I ate maybe 1.5 plates. a lot of stuff was empty or looked like it was sitting out all day. the only really enjoyable item was the chicken and broccoli which i ended up just loading my plate up with. we could have just gotten that for cheap at a takeout place. the staff was pushy and rude as well. lesson learned. never again. $15/person for slop. don't waste your time or money. find a better place! read more

I gave Dragon Buffet another try. Now, the broth taste yummy just like before! The noodles are great too! I also noticed that now, you have the option to choose from different sauces and can add things like hot oil and garlic. At dinner, you can order steak from the Hibachi grill. They have gluten free soy sauce and label which food items are gluten free. For Hibachi noodles, there is a gluten free white sauce. The restaurant looked even cleaner than last time. The staff were friendly and very good about re-filling my water. I thought that the General Gaos was okay but the honey and snow chicken are great. I'd recommend going for lunch because it's around 8 dollars. I think lunch is until 3 pm from Monday-Saturday. They serve seafood at dinner which is why the price jumps up but it's still very cheap for seafood. I'm not a huge fan of seafood except for fish so lunch is perfect for me. read more

I usually avoid Chinese buffets but I was pleased with the dinner choices on the evening we visited. The sushi was fresh and so were the items on the Mongolian grill. I tried one of the custom made soups too. The chef was very friendly and explained how to go about ordering. Even explained the cooked eggs that looked very strange but tasted quite good. I stick with the fresh items and avoid the other standard dishes. We would go back and give it a second try. read more

Not a big fan of Chinese buffets, but this is one of the worst I have seen. The overall look and feel of this restaurant makes you wonder how the kitchen looks. Setting the record straight regarding review on 5/30/2007 from a Victor L. I read Victor's review and statement that "Jack decided to get into some sort of racketeering or extortion ring through New York City. " As a young girl, my family went to to Jack's motel and Restaurant often and knew Jack and his family very well. Jack sold his restaurant around 1968 - 1970 to a person named Paul Lai who came from New York City. Mr Paul Lai owned and ran the restaurant for several years even after the death of Mr Fung. Mr Fung died in the mid 1980s. We attended the funeral of Mr Fung and remembered Mr Lai being there helping the surviving family members with funeral arrangements. I don't remember much about Jack's Motel and Restaurant after Mr Fung's death, but do know at some point Mr Lai sold the restaurant to others. So Victor L's comment more than likely would pertain to Ownership of the restaurant from Paul Lai to the time it became Dragon Buffet. I am not saying Mr Paul Lai was involved in racketeering or extortion ring through New York City since I don't know Mr Paul Lai's history or anyone after Mr Paul Lai. However I do know that Mr Jack Fung was loved by many people in the business community around the Albany Schenectady Troy area. He helped many people young and old whenever he could. He was never involved in any type of extortion or racketeering ring. He was an outstanding citizen and community member who had many friends in the state legislature and respected for his accomplishments. It is sad to see in writing someone making unfounded accusations about a person who has been dead for over 20 years. Hopefully any of his surviving family members(children, grandchildren) will never read or hear about this false accusation. read more

I wasn't impressed. I felt like they didn't have a lot of non-fried food to choose from. Everything tasted greasy and not that great to me. We went for lunch and the had very little sushi and it didn't taste fresh. Their egg drop soup tasted too much like egg compared to a lot of egg drop soups I've had which totally grossed me out. You know a good Chinese restaurant when it is full of asian people. You can get basic american from pizza to roast pork, raw clams & oysters, sushi, a broccoli salad to die for, peel & eat shrimp,and then Chinese food from congee (rice gruel for brunch) to almost everything on a normal restaurant menu. tons of food, always fresh made, sizzling hot. The place is very clean, elegabt and family orientated. They have a mongolian grill and a soup bar where you pick raw items,noodles, you name it from roast red cooked pork, shrimp dumplings, roast duck, anything you like! cooked fresh, you pick the sauces and ingredients if you want something other than the buffet. dinner has crab legs, stuffed clams, honey shrimp, general tso's chicken and think of something, it is there. i have never been dissapointed. the only thing us that the eggrolls are almost all wrapper, not much filling...well one thing bad. they have ginger crab, spare ribs,and hong kong style dumplings and dim sum.It is pricier on sat and sunday $11.95, cheaper about $9.95 during the week, If you figure what you would pay for a crab leg dinner including soups,appetizer (see how much clams/oysters on 1/2 shell cost),dessert, fruits, and strudel...it is worth it.I wonder if the waiters are indentured servants and get to keep their tips, but service is good and you sometimes have to fight a waitress who thinks you are done with the plate. that's a compliment. the other thing wrong is that the ice cream- soft serve tastes like a watered down ice milk, but for everything else you get, i hope that they never go out of business or jack up their prices.Where else can you get hong kong style soup with roast duck, made how you want it and everything else too! i only hope that giving it a great review doesn't make it too busy that i can't get in the place. read more

This Dragon Buffet use to be one of the best chinese restaruant in the capital region. Remember the good old days, when gas price were cheap [ Around the $1 per a gal], Chinese buffet were cheap $4 for lunch, $6 for dinner. Good time. There use to be like 6 or 7 Dragon Buffet in New York State that was own by one man. Now there only one. After 2007 or 2006 there was a new owner, the owner is very unorganized, waiters can be rude. [Like most chinese restaurant, workers can't speak english] Another word, poor services. Sometime the temperture is like over 80 degrees, i'm guessing their trying to save money by turning off the AC. Foods are not always fresh. If someone drop their seafood on the floor, they might put it back in the buffet. They try their best not to get caught. Sushi is always fresh and pretty consistent! Food is great with the exception of the cooked shrimp dish on the buffet that is usually overcooked.. bummer because I love shrimp, but I always find plenty to eat because they have lots of variety. The staff is friendly and I have seen them stay calm and professional with even the most difficult of customers. The price is fair too! read more

loved it! i was in Colonie for a doctors appointment with my mom and we decided to stop here to eat. the first thing i noticed was the beautiful decor and atmosphere. the booths were comfortable and clean. then the food. i tried several items there and enjoyed just about all of them. the one i enjoyed the least i would say was their pizza. was an absolute poor excuse for a pizza. just that made the place lose a star. but everything else was good. they even had pork egg rolls! which my local Chinese buffet doesnt have. sushi was good too. the Tiger rolls were unexpectedly spicy which did upset my stomach, but only because my gut cant handle spicy food. i thoroughly enjoyed myself and if im ever in the Colonie area again i will be going back read more

I'd have given it five stars if it wasn't for one thing- they got rid of the Mongolian Grill. This was by far my favorite place to eat, and the Mongolian Grill was why. They changed the restaurant around, with new food, but they should have left the grill the way it was. I don't know what happened to the man who would cook the food on the grill (he was nice, too), or why they got rid of it, but I have to say I'm disappointed with what they have now. Their new "habachi" isn't bad, but there's hardly ANY selection of what you want to put in your food, and you can't even put the sauces and extras and stuff on yourself anymore. What can I say, been coming here for years, never had a bad meal. Yes, you can fill up on the standard Chinese foods out on the line, $8 bucks all you can eat with dessert - not bad at all. But you can also get hot noodle soup with duck/chicken/beef and greens or Mongolian BBQ both made to order for the same price!! I go for the soup and BBQ and it is GREAT.
