These kinds of places can be hit or miss; this one is pretty good, from what I've seen so far, and a very good deal for the price. I only went to the buffet area in the center, and this time I didn't go to the sushi, hibachi, or seafood areas. The Asian entrees were the best part, I don't come to buffets like these for chicken tenders or mac & cheese. Bonus points for me for having kimchi. The hot and sour soup was pretty good for not having meat in it, but there's a "zing" you don't get when the meat isn't present. I asked for hot tea - one tea bag for a quart of hot water seemed insufficient. The dessert area was the most disappointing. Some of the fruit was under-ripe, some was overripe, and that attempt at banana pudding just didn't work. I don't think I ever saw fortune cookies either. Friend selected this place for a quick lunch because it was on Wolf Rd. and opened at 11:00 am. I had my doubts which turned out to be valid. Chinese buffet with some regular food offerings such as baked Salmon and mashed potatoes. Several beverages come with buffet. Chinese items: 2 Stars There were several Chinese dishes with chicken. I sampled five, all of which were poor to mediocre. Chicken was tough, overcooked/fried. Vegetables were scarce. Hot and sour soup had fresh mushroom slices but little tofu; it was not hot in temp. Pork Egg Roll was good. Sushi was 4 stars. There were six kinds. No signs to identify. The accompanying Seaweed Salad was excellent. A bowl of pickled ginger was available. Yum. Salmon and mashed potatoes were good. Did not try stir-fry or pizza. Desserts were poor. Fresh watermelon slices were old and DRY. What? Pineapple was fresh. The overall food quality and value is about a 3.5 but I rounded up because service was good. The buffet was well stocked, food was fresh/warm, variety was decent, and it was very clean. Every time they filled the buffet they wiped down the counter and as soon as someone left they swept under the tables. Some of the staff weren't overly friendly but I attribute it to a language barrier. The food was better than I expected but I don't think it's quite as good as ordering takeout from other places. The only disappointment was they didn't have boneless spare ribs (the one thing that I wanted) but maybe they rotate dishes. Notable items include: beef & broccoli, chicken in garlic sauce, sesame chicken, pork egg roll, dumpling, stuffed mushrooms, chicken wings, and clams in garlic butter. Items to skip: stuffed clam, vegetable lo mein, sweet & sour chicken, and fried donut (needed more powdered sugar). Beware: some of the items may be mis-marked. Went for lunch on a weekday and obviously got seated right away. As it's brand new, it was a very clean facility. All food was well stocked and warm. Lots to choose from and happy to see a fresh sushi area. My family and I tried just about everything they had to offer and didn't dislike any of it. They had a nice dessert fridge with yummy options. While not a Chinese buffet snob, my expectations have been temptered a bit over the years. I now realize that the food will never be as good as from a regular Chinese restaurant (though it will likely be better than takeout travelling in plastic containers). Still, the lure of many different options for one low price calls to me. We came here on a Saturday for lunch. Prices were about $16 a person which seemed reasonable. There were I think five different "rows" of options. I started with the first, which remarkably had pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, bacon, hashbrown patties, and other fried things like wontons, sesame bean buns, french fries, etc. It was surprising to see this assortment and I don't know if it was catering to a Saturday "brunch" crowd or if it is like this all the time. The second row was mostly friend food things like eggs rolls, mozz. cheese sticks, chicken wings, sweet and sour chicken, etc. The third row had all the usual Chinese-American staples like General Tso chicken, lo mein, chicken and broccoli, etc. Missing was beef and broccoli, which I found odd, but I can't say I missed it. Basically, if you would find it at a mall food court Chinese place it would be in this row. The fourth row had lots of fruit, some vegetables, jello, cookies, and a couple of cold salads. The fifth row had more cold salads as well as ingredients for their stir-fry section (which was next to their sushi section), though I didn't venture over there to explore. The place was extremely clean for a buffet but they have only been open two months so I am not sure it will last. This place is significantly better than its previous iteration further north on Wolf Road. Will it maintain its cleanliness standards? Who knows. But that's why I rated it 4 stars. The staff seemed friendly, though they only came back once or twice during the meal to clear plates and I had to wander off to get a water refill. The high walls on our booth secluded us from some of the noise (including odd 1970s elevator music which they pumped through the place) and gave us a feeling of intimacy. My son really liked the Koi pond in the front. Food quality was decent. I didn't mind all the American options available, as subpar continental fare is a nice change of pace from subpar Asian food. I really miss Old Country Buffet and while this place will never replace it, it gave me some of those vibes. One disturbing thing was having hot apple pie casserole right next to stuffed crab legs. If anything cross-contaminated that would have been downright gross! My wife complained about nearly everything she ate, though I think she came in with the wrong expectations. Albany Buffet opened this week across the road from Colonie Center next to DXL in the former Spirit of Halloween - Barnes & Noble - Herman's World of Sporting Goods building. The place is operated by the same owners of the former Capital Buffet at Wolf Road Shoppers Park. I used to eat at Capital Buffet often when I worked nearby. They serve lunch & dinner buffet on Mondays to Saturdays and All Day Sunday dinner buffet, drinks included with buffet They also offer takeout buffet (weighed) and a la carte menu with combination plates. There is seating for over 200 customers with the tables spaced close together and can be moved around to adjust for party size. I stopped by Albany Buffet for Saturday lunch and the place was very busy with about a 10 minute wait to be seated. After I was seated at a table, they took my drink order (Coke fountain drink) and I helped myself to the buffet which features several buffet stations of hot foods, cold foods, chilled desserts in the glass cooler, Wholesome Farms ice cream cups in the freezer, and dedicated sushi station, hibachi, & pho soup station. The food on the buffet had the popular Chinese & American dishes veg lo mein, veg yellow fried rice, white rice, chow mei fun, breaded fried chicken (nuggets, fingers, strips), chicken & mushroom, seafood delight, beef & broccoli, green beans, pepper chicken, spring rolls, pork dumplings, soups, shrimp cocktail, baked salmon, stuffed mushrooms, mac & cheese, seafood & cheese, pepperoni pizza, salads, brunch foods (pancakes, French toast, eggs, bacon), fresh fruits, Chinese doughnuts, jellos, apple pie, chilled desserts, and ice cream cups. I made several trips to the buffet grabbing clean plates from under the buffet stations (not on the ends). There was a enough of a variety of food, so I didn't get hibachi. The staff kept clearing used plates between buffet trips. After I had enough, I was presented the check which was $15.11 (cash)/$15.71 (card) with tax and before tip, paying up front at the register. visited this buffet with a friends family back in March with my service dog. The staff was talking to and petting her despite her having a vest on that clearly says do not pet. At the time I just ignored this because the language barrier it just wasn't worth the hassle. Today I went back. And as soon as I walked in the hostess was looking at me all weird and giving weird looks to my SD (service dog). She seated me in an area away from other guests and told me the dog needs to stay at the table. That she couldn't go up to the buffet with me. Stating it makes other guests uncomfortable and last time people explained I told her under the Americans disability act she is allowed and I'm sorry if it makes people uncomfortable but the law is there to protect me as a disabled person. I also told her and furthermore she can't put me in an area separate from other guests that's violation of ADA. I ultimately walked away and went up to the buffet grabbing two plates putting them on my walker just so I wouldn't have to deal with her going back up. She then came to me and said I was put in the other room because they didn't have a small table in the other area. Whatever you say ma'am As I was eating my food a wait staff stood leaned against the doorframe I felt like I was being watched at it made me feel very uncomfortable. I just wanted out of there!! I finished my food and asked for the check. It was brought to me quite some time later. I thought the reason it took so long was maybe because they were compensating it as an apology for the hassle they gave NOPE. I went to pay. Asked guy if he was manager he said yes. I said well I had issues with my service dog. Under the ADA you can't put us in a separate section island I was told she can't come to the buffet with me that's also a violation of ADA. He basically was like so. I was like well I'm gonna give you a negative review on every platform I can and your lucky I don't report you. He then said do whatever legally you want you went through got your food and ate it so I don't see the problem. I was like WOW you just don't get it!! Albany Buffets seafood was pretty good for a buffet restaurant. The Asian food options were average to above average, however, the American fare was overdone, offered few choices, and didn't feature French fries at dinner (worth noting for kids). I still think it ranks as a decent choice in a market lacking good options. What it did do right, was done very well during our experience. Previously, we had thought United Buffet dominated the local buffet market, but now it has some competition worth considering, even edging in a few dollars less for dinner. The Clipper Magazine offers a 10% savings that is often featured, and will help offer additional savings for individuals or families alike as well. read more

If I could give it 0.5 stars I would! Well, we used to be very loyal customers to the Capital Buffet. Then they moved across the street and changed the name. Don't know why they changed it, but whatever. We saw terrible reviews when they first reopened and figured we'd give it time to work out the kinks. Honestly we took longer to come back than expected as the reviews were slow to improve. We finally broke down and tried it Monday Dec. 29. Much to our delight the place looked great. That's where it stopped. After getting to our table and ordered drinks we went to the buffet. Mind you they showed crab legs, in the pictures...not there and so was much of everything they used to have, not even breaded shrimp at dinner time? We pushed through and got dinner. The roast beef was tasteless and I had to fight to cut it. The pork fried rice was bland and the sweet and sour chicken was tough. Most everything else we had was subpar. The dumplings though were the only thing that was ok. For 20$ a plate to serve ourselves, this was not at all what other buffets offer by far. By the time we got to the car, I already wasn't feeling well. You know what's coming next. I now have been on the toilet one way or another since then, just now on New Years Day being able to keep soup down without dashing for the bathroom. So beware is all I can say! Do you feel lucky? My wife had some sushi, salt and pepper shrimp, dimsum soup and a few other bites that for the most part didn't eat. I was unfortunate that I didn't follow suit. She was a bit sick to her stomach also but nothing like I endured. I missed a 16th birthday party for my granddaughter and even New Years Eve was ruined. There was however a lack of a dessert bar other than fruit, jello and banana pudding. Ice cream is in Dixie cups. Egg drop soup lacked a lot of egg mostly liquid. It seems like the Albany Buffet has read the previous reviews and has made improvements. The floor was clean, service and seating prompt and the tables nicely spaced apart. There was a good selection of entrees and sides and staff was working hard to keep it tidy- not always easy when you have dozens of people serving themselves! The buffet had the typical mix of issues, some food was cold, some had been in the warming trays too long and dried out and some just looked unappealing. But there were still plenty of good choices and tasty food. None of it was overly salty or greasy. Let's face it, we don't go to a buffet for the ambiance and service. The facility is cramped, the food selection is limited and below average in quality. CHEAP INGEDIENTS are utilized, so as far as we are concerned, it is just a money grab for those who do not know the difference. Came here to try new buffet with my daughters. I love Chinese food and Chinese buffets. Sorry but the quality of food was sub-par all around. We all thought so as did other family members who visited on a different day. I'll try again in a few months to see if it has changed.
