My A/C was never fixed. Van told me they do not do AC work after he took my money, and should take my AC problem to someone who specializes in that type of work. Needless to say, the car is now in the scrap heep and had to endure one summer in Florida without air. I stand by my comment. You told me to go to an air conditioning shop. I even got the Inspector General of Virginia involved after you thumbed your nose at the Better Business Bureau. This was after you originally told me you could fix it the AC. The engine work was done fine. I had to return it once for the engine work but you did fix that problem. But you shouldn't have taken in the AC work if you didn't know what you were doing or at least refunded the money I paid for the AC work. You want me to remove my negative response, return the $800+ money you charged me fir the AC replacement that never worked. read more

Warning and Warning if your car is newer than five years old be careful. It took three weeks to repair a simple problem like an Oxygen Sensor. First they could not Diagnose the problem because they do not have the proper tools to pin point problem. It took them literally three weeks in trying to find why my car was losing acceleration. You talk about frustration. I was so frustrated with the going back and forth and excuses I literally called a tow truck and took my car out of that shop. One of those excuses why they could not continue to work on the car is that the owner of the shop decided to take a vacation without announcing to his manager that he will be away for a week. I had to wait an extra week for him to come back to approve some parts needed for the car which turns out it didn't needed those parts because the problem was mis diagnose . There was so many communication problems that I Iiterally could not talk on the phone with them with out them trying to rush you off the phone. Customer service is zero and good luck on the warranty they offer. I brought my car back so many times and still the problem was not corrected mainly because they could not diagnose the problem. I took my car to a reputable dealer with certified mechanics and they discovered that the oxygen sensor was bent and damage caused by the improper installation of the engine. Totally un professional with backyard street mechanics. Now in a new location. Take this warning seriously. read more

I need to write a review on this place, because its unbelievable that they had bad reviews. I recently had the engine go out in my car. I drove a 2003 toyota camry, kept it well maintained, never missed an oil change, routinely would rotate tires and change transmission fluid, etc. and keep up the maintenance as well I was the original owner. So I knew my car was in good shape. Toyota says that the 2003 Camry has a timing chain and this does not need to be replaced. Well after thoroughly investigating (asked mechanics, toyota, and researched on the internet) when I was at 100k miles and reaffirmed that this is correct, I was surprised when my timing chain broke and killed my engine at 120k miles. At first I thought I needed to buy a new car. After discussing with my mechanic, some internet research, and friends, I decided because I knew my car was well maintained that I could purchase a refurbished engine. After doing some research, I found Dr. Motorworx specializes in buying refurbished engines and installing them. They quoted me a price of $4,400 for tow, install, and a 3 year warranty. This was for an engine with essentially zero miles. I had checked ebay for used engines for the same car model, I saw engines with 80k miles were $2.5k+ and then an additional $1,200-$1,800 to install depending on your mechanic. Defnitely was a win to take it to Van's shop. It took 3 days to get my engine installed. 5000+ miles later, my car is still going strong. Bottom line: great shop, great service, very reliable. read more

Oh my! Well, my experience was the polar opposite of poor Sean's. When the engine went out on my 10 year old Lincoln Navigator I really had no idea what to do with it. I bought a new Toyota Venza (very nice) to drive but just could not bear the thought of being without my big 4x4 for the winters and hauling stuff. After conferring with several people about replacement engines I decided to let Van and Dr Motorworx do the job - but I was a bit nervous about the whole thing. It all turned out fantastically! The Nav drove great from the moment I picked it up and we have enjoyed having it back in the driveway ready for duty. I found Van to be quite personable, very knowledgeable and they did everything just as they said they would do. Van has invited me to bring the vehicle back for any type of servicing I may need in the future and I suspect I will do just that. read more

Had a new engine replaced on my 2006 ford Expedition about 9 months ago. The Ford dealer wanted about $10,000 for the job. I found Dr. Motor Works and they did it for a little over half that. Van had the work completed in a little over a week and engine runs nice. Had the check engine light come on last week and Van corrected the minor issue without charge. I would defiantly recommend Dr. Motor Works instead of replacing your vehicle! read more

I'm fairly new to the DMV area, so I did a lot of research, and got a lot of estimates for getting my 2007 Toyota Camry SE v6 Engine replaced. I have to say, I'm so glad I took my car to Van and the guy's at Dr. Motorworx to get my engine replaced. I live in Prince George's County Maryland, but I definitely made the right decision in making the trek out to Sterling VA to get my engine replaced. Van is a all around great guy. Very personable and very professional, know's what he's talking about, and was able to answer my general and technical questions. He gave me a great and fair price/warranty on the used engine replacement. The estimate was an exact price (not a range). Parts and labor, straight up no hassle. Other places give you a range estimate, and then as soon as they get your car, they find something else they forgot to account for, and try to charge you for it. None of that here with Van and his guy's. I had a great experience. My car had been sitting idle for a least a year. Van arranged the towing. I left my key in the vehicle. The tow company picked it up from its location and towed it to the shop. My Car was ready in about 5 or 6 days. Van picked me up form the Wiehle-Reston Metro to take me to the shop. I paid exactly what he quoted me and I drove off a happy customer. I highly recommend Dr. Motorworx. It was hard to find guys you can trust with engine replacement on foreign cars like Toyota, Nissan, Honda, etc... Great service with guys who do quality work at reasonable price and no B.S. Just had the engine in my 350z replaced by Dr. Motorworx in Sterling, VA. This is still the first week, break in period, but I'm very pleased so far. From the price which is the lowest that i could find in the area to the turnaround I have no complaints at all. Ok, like most that visit Dr Motorworx I got bit by the "Blown Motor Bug". I considered buying new but quickly decided against this. I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7 V8 that was in great condition otherwise and to be honest could not really stomach a car note. I called around to different shops and even a few close shop owners I know personally about a replacement motor. After some thought I figured I need to find a shop that deals with motors and pretty much nothing else. Motor Experts! Well I found DM and to my surprise was only a few miles from my residence. I called and spoke to Van briefly about hiring his shop. Not satisfied with just a phone convo I decided to stop by after work. I got there right before they were closing for the day but the guys never mentioned a word about it. after a few questions I got the feeling that these guys know what they are doing and also know how to treat customers! #1 in my book is Customer service! if a Shop does not have it, they will not get my business! Ok long story short. I talked to Van face to face for many hours about what to expect in the process and Van accommodated every question I had for him. Professional Grade. From top to bottom this is a well ran shop! The staff was fast and the shop is well maintained. I took pics of the entire process ( for my log) and again I was accommodated with all requests and I let Van know what I needed and he delivered. I even thought about an engine upgrade and guess what? Van was right there with me giving me advise and recommendations. They even TOWED MY CAR FOR FREE! really cool. Well, I got my "girl" back started her up and she ran like nothing ever happened. Seamless work. When I called him about my Scion, Civic and Highlander, he knew exactly what the issues are with the engine types in each car and even told me about the engine repair programs Toyota had in place for the two Toyota vehicles. He has repaired/replaced 2 engines for me (Scion TC and Civic). His prices are fair and he delivers on time. I trust him. I'll start off by saying I usually do all of my work on cars myself and rarely take my car to anyone else unless it's something I don't have the correct tools or knowledge to do. I have a 2002 F-150 with the 4.6 2v engine. The timing chain guide broke and pieces of it were clogging the oil pickup. Replacing the time set takes some special know-how and proper tools to fix it correctly so I called around. VA Tire and Auto said they wouldn't do the repair because they didn't have the tools (strange because the 4.6 2v is probably one of Ford's most popular engines yet they don't have what it takes to repair it?). I also called the dealer who quoted me an astronomical price and insisted it was so high because of the cost of the cam phasers (which the 4.6 2v doesn't even have)...I got the impression they didn't even want to do the job so that phone call was short. So, the next place I called was Van at Dr. Motorworx. He was very polite and extremely positive about being able to fix it at what I consider a fair price. I gave him a list of what I wanted done and a small deposit over the phone to get the parts ordered. I dropped it off on a Monday and it was done on Wednesday. I picked it up and he did everything I asked for the exact price we agreed upon...and the work was done well. I've been driving in now for a month and no issues...runs better than I can ever remember. Van is a very charismatic man who seems to truly love what he does and he is strikingly honest about what you need and what you don't need. So, even if you're not replacing an engine and just need engine work done, Van is the man I will go to in the future if it's something more than what I can do in my garage. Thanks! read more

Total RIP OFF I was told that a "remanufactured engine" would be installed in my 2004 Ford Expedition. When the work was done and I was told to pick up the vehicle I checked under the hood. There were loose hoses and parts which they then zip tied. The check engine light was on and Van told me it would clear in a couple of hundred miles. I received a 2 page bill for the work. When I asked for paperwork on the "remanufactured engine" Van got very creative about the warranty and how it's best if there is a problem to go back to him and not the engine supplier. It also looked like a kid with a can of silver spray paint sprayed the engine. I went to jiffy lube at 500 miles for an oil change as I was told and the tech at jiffy lube stated that the engine was not a remanufactured engine and it was full of "sludge". I went back to Van and demanded the paperwork on the engine and info on the "supplier". His response was that it was "confidential". As I was there a cube truck was unloading junk yard engines. I asked the driver if they ever delivered remanufactured engines. The answer was "never". Do not go to Dr. Motorworxs. read more

This place was great! After extensive research we decided to go with Dr. Motorworx and have absolutely no regrets! They were prompt, clear, trustworthy, and gave us all the information we needed to get our infiniti g35 up and running with their new motor. They quoted a price and stuck to it and even finished all the labor days ahead of schedule. The 3 year warranty sold us but we never expected to also get the personal check up phone calls we received after our service and the offer to immediately remedy any concerns we had immediately after service. We never needed to take them up on the offer because everything was perfect but it was great to know that they are a business that stands firmly behind their work. Van, the owner, gave very precise instructions for what to do with the motor in the first weeks after installation and we followed them to a T. It was all worth it. They know their stuff. If we could give 6 stars we would. Definitely going back for any future car work on our other vehicles. read more

Van not only honored the original price quoted, but made getting my vehicle to and from the shop as painless as possible!!!! After my 98 Suzuki 4x4 broke down in Va. (I am from Columbia, MD), a Va. filling station had it for a week ($700 of "work"/diagnostics) and suggested a USED engine with not a long warranty. I called Dr. Motorworx. They towed my car, gave a quick fair assessment and very reasonable price to put in a remanufactured engine with a much longer warranty. The owner is extremely personable and informative. Service was EXCELLENT! For the price I paid to have the engine replaced, I could have only gotten a used 4x4 the same age or even older than the car I have, most likely leaving me in the same situation months down the road. We agreed he would install a GM Goodwrench remanufactured engine in my car in 4 days for $4,200.00 (a large unique engine). The lies from Van started the second day when I called for a status .. he said they shipped him the wrong motor. 2 more wrong engines and another week later he said he was now installing it. Should be only a couple more days. 5 weeks of lies like, "oh, we're putting the finishing touches on it now" and "we'd like to have some time to test drive it to get the kinks out", etc. I took 2 Fridays off work to sit at his shop and watch them work on my car. Lies and more lies. When Van finally said, "OK, it's ready", he wanted all the money and applied less than half of his promised rental car adjustment to the bill. He added a new starter and other parts to the bill .. items that were working fine when I gave it to him. They scratched my bumper and knocked a running light out ($800 repairs est. by a body shop). - I still don't know what engine Van installed in my car - won't show me any paperwork - The engine smokes and burns a quart of oil every 300 miles Every week now, January 2012, Van promises to bring me the $800 cash for my bumper damage and to try to work on my car. I tell him, "ARE YOU CRAZY. I wouldn't let you within 100 miles of my car. I can't afford to lose my car for another month" Yeah, I called the police. They came to Van's shop and were going to arrest him for charging all the money he wanted from me on my debit card. They said, "that's just bad business. Van is AWESOME. I had an excellent experience with Dr. Motorworx. I called on him to replace an engine in my older vehicle (1966 Ford) as I did not have time to do it myself. He arranged to tow my vehicle to his shop and finished the job ahead of the estimated timeline. He also paid for me to take a cab to pick up the vehicle. We had to fine tune the engine's carburetor a few times after the initial install but this is to be expected with an older vehicle. Van delivered. Great experience. My original engine had lost some power and was leaking oil after a dealer service shop accidentally broke a piece off the engine block while replacing the timing chain. So I had a remanufactured 22RE engine put into my 1992 Toyota pickup last summer at Dr. Motorworx. The truck is running like new. The new engine sounded great, but I recently noticed a small amount of oil leaking. I took it back to Van under warranty and found out it had also been leaking oil from the front differential. They were able to repair this additional work for a reasonable price with an improved seal. They also noted an exhaust leak due to a missing gasket and fixed it at no charge! For service requirements, Van has also been very helpful in understanding what gets replaced when getting a new engine. Thanks - hoping for many more years from my Toyota! read more

Recently I had a remanufactured engine installed in my 2003 S Type R Jaguar at Dr Motorworx in Sterling, Va. I had done extensive research and received nothing but good reviews from previous customers. I initially contacted Van at Dr. Motorworx and he arranged to pickup my car and move it to his shop. He called me shortly afterwards and explained the cause of engine failure in my car. He quoted me a price for a remanufactured engine and I told him to proceed. He explained it would take a few days for my engine to arrive and that was fine with me. Two weeks later I picked up my Jaguar and was excited that it drove like a new car, no issues at all. It has been almost three weeks and four hundred miles now and the car continues to be perfect. It passed emissions the very first time with no issues. I have never had a light come on or any other problem. The performance of the car is better than with the original engine, my fuel economy is better and I am perfectly satisfied. It does not get any better!! I highly recommend Van and his shop. It is really good to have such a great experience without any issues. read more
