    Arroz Chaufa Con Pollo
    Eric T.

Found this small Peruvian spot in downtown Hammonton and sampled Arroz chaufa con pollo, a marinates chicken, fried rice vegetable dish that was very flavorful and nicely presented. Had to try the Yuca fries with a spicy white sauce that was quite interesting, perfectly cooked with just the right amount of kick. The staff was pleasant and attentive, checking back several times to ensure I was enjoying the meal. The restaurant is clean and simply appointed in a tasteful way.

We stopped into Downtown Peru in Hammonton tonight for dinner, and it was fantastic. They've only been open for 11 months, but they're truly a hidden gem that deserves to be discovered! The service was wonderful -- friendly, attentive, and eager to help. While we've all had Peruvian food before, they're happy to explain the menu if you're new to it, which makes it so approachable. We were seated and immediately treated to a dish of addictively delicious cancha (think Peruvian corn nuts, but far gentler on the teeth) to snack on while we looked over the menu. I ordered the chicha morada to drink -- a smooth, cool, and lightly spiced Peruvian beverage made from purple corn with a hint of cinnamon and cloves. It was so good, I even got one to go after dinner! For appetizers, we shared the Yuca con Huancaina -- hot, crispy fried yuca wedges served with a beautiful aji amarillo-based Huancaina sauce -- and the Ocopa, a wonderfully earthy and aromatic sauce of roasted peanuts, huacatay (Peruvian black mint), and aji amarillo poured over tender potato slices. Both were delicious, and it was our first time trying the Ocopa. For our mains, two of us ordered the Bistec a lo Pobre -- a perfectly seasoned beef steak with fries, a fried egg, sweet fried plantains, and white rice. The other ordered a half pollo a la brasa, their signature rotisserie chicken. The portions were generous, and we all had leftovers to bring home. Overall, the food was outstanding, and the service was warm and welcoming. I hope more people check this place out -- it's definitely worth the visit!

Great place with very good food. Have been there about 6 times within the last 6 months. The chef owner has came out to our table almost every time we have went to see how our dinner experience was going. Prices are very fair for what you get. It's also a byob so you can bring a bottle of wine which we did last time because we had a Designated driver that night. It's a small place but very comfortable atmosphere with accommodating staff. Would love to see this place flourish because they are doing it right

Please go check out Downtown Peru Restaurant at 14 S 2nd St in Hammonton. I had no idea what I was going to order, everything on the menu sounds delicious! I had the quarter Pollo, salad, and sweet potato fries. Affordable priced, the restaurant very clean & a nice quiet, comfortable spot. https://www.downtownperurestaurant.com/menu?menuId=edf24316-321b-43e2-9355-988706592f73

Awesome food and service. Every single item we ordered was perfectly made. You have to try the passionfruit juice too! Place was clean and well-maintained.

Food is simple yet SO delicious! We love the crunchy corn and plantains. Hubby wished his dish had more meat but we will come back for sure!

I didn't like the chicken. I like the potatoes and service was ok. The room was pretty small.

My parents are both sick and they needed something that could be fast due to the fact that my mom is on oxygen and my dad has dementia! First off we walked in and i noticed that they now use kiosks but my parents do not want to use this! We ordered a power-bowl(veggie) a chalupa(black ben) cheesy fiesta potatoes, 2 cheesy Gorditas, and chicken soft tacos. Well it was a total waste of money ALL of the food had nothing in them and the portions were AWFUL, the chicken soft taco had literally 4 piece of small chicken again the guy w the glasses was looking like we were butting in on his free time! ALL of the drinks were blinking blue and were water, the store was so dirty there was a table with a receipt and trash on it from 3:50pm! It was 6:30! They had loud vulgar music blasting, it is very sad because taco bell has been a favorite since childhood but I will never return there! Hopefully these workers will find what they want to do so they can give the customers that "WOW" effect! Do yourself a favor go somewhere else!

2 out of 3 ain't bad, nowadays…read more I've come to expect either bad service, incorrect order, long wait, angry employees, rude employees, employees that for me are hard to understand and / or all of those scenarios when I go to a fast food establishment with the exception of Chick-fil-A. No longer do I get angry or frustrated because, unfortunately, there aren't many services left in America that have employees or management that puts customers' experience and services as their top priority. Upon entering this McDonald's, I was greeted by the sound of unhappy and frustrated customers. One customer had returned her incorrect breakfast sandwich, and she was promptly served the identical incorrect breakfast sandwich the 2nd time. Luckily for her the 3rd time she got the correct sandwich but it was cold. Another customer was showing frustration because she had placed her order, and she said she had been waiting 10 minutes so far. The me from 20 years ago would have turned around and walked away upon seeing and hearing the customers already there, but the 2023 me, oh no. Why leave? Will service be better in another location? Maybe, but probably not. So, I placed my order using the kiosk, the only option available. Paid for my order, and a receipt did not print out. Cool, now I get to guess what my order number is as I wait amongst 4 other customers. One of my fellow customers let an employee know that neither kiosk is printing receipts. Her reply, "They never do." Inside, I'm laughing my ass off because instead of replacing the paper or diagnosing the problem, the employees are content to chalk it up too. It never prints receipts. I politely ask the young lady employee, "What is the order number for the order that includes a bottle of water?" She let's me know, so now I feel privileged compared to the growing number of customers that are not privy to such top secret information. I get my oder, which took way longer than it would have taken from the years 1975 through 2000 (1975 is the earliest I can recollect going to a McDonald's) but fast for 2023 (8 minute wait) I didn't look to see if my order was correct because that would ruin all the fun of unpacking the bag upon reaching my destination. It's so exciting nowadays when an order is 100% correct. I have learned to enjoy the build-up to the game I call, "Is the fast-food order correct?" Also, if it's not correct, why would I want to let the employees of most fast restaurants know about the mistake? In my experience, they often react as if I am letting them down or they seem angry with me because I now want them to fix their error. To be fair, in some states, fast-food employees only earn a minimum of $15.00 per hour. At that hourly rate, is it fair to expect the employees to provide service with a smile, a polite demeanor, and use proper diction? (Sarcasm) Now for the grand finally of my trip to this McDonald's for takeout breakfast. Drumroll, please! I ordered 3 hash browns, and I got 3 hash browns! I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese on a biscuit, and I got a bacon, egg, and cheese on a biscuit! The 3rd item! Oh, this is so exciting. Will this be an elusive 100% correct order!? I ordered a sausage and cheese McMuffin (NO EGG). This is a tough one for modern fast-food workers because it's kinda a special instruction order. I reach into the bag and, wait for it, Boom! It's sausage on a biscuit! No cheese or egg. Aww! So close! Oh well, 2 outa 3 ain't bad. Nowadays. P.S. I gave them 3 stars because they may have given me the incorrect order, and the service was slow, but they weren't mean or angry about it.
