As threatened, they sent me a notice saying they could kick me out in 24 hours - for a 'rule violation' they've never identified, based on 'rules' I've never seen in the 25+ years I've been here (without any incident or problem), based on a non-existent contract (haven't ever seen or signed one in decades). Want to be treated badly by a rude, irrational, immature guy employed by an uncaring business that responds to a complaint by terminating a long-time customer - that's the kind of 'customer loyalty' you should (NOT) expect to see here. I went there last Sunday [been going to my storage unit there for ~20 years], and had an absolutely awful experience with their day guy [never had this experience before, so maybe it was simply a lack of maturity]. I was dropping a handful of some lightweight metal curtain rods and metal 18" flat shelf panels in the trash dumpster [clearly marked 'trash'] after going to my storage unit, and this random guy approaches me without identifying himself and verbally attacks me like a wannabe Ice Agent, assuming I'm someone he spoke with on the phone that angered him, telling me I can terminate my contract and leave if I don't like it ['it' being whatever happened on the phone call I wasn't part of]. After telling him twice I didn't call and wasn't whoever he was talking about - he kept talking over me and refused to identify himself when asked - he threatened to terminate my storage contract several more times 'if I wanted to argue with him', also telling me I couldn't put my lightweight curtain rods in the trash [or recycling] and I would be fined $500 if I didn't remove them. When I finally got him to calm down long enough to stop talking over me and instead tell me what he actually wanted, he demanded that I remove the curtain rods - from the dumpster marked trash! I hustled my 68-year old, abdominal-surgery-recovering ass over the lip of the dumpster to make Herr Little Pissant happy [also telling him to stop talking to me and go away]. On Monday I tried calling the owner, who thought the appropriate response was to have this abusive Ice Wannabe named Ryan [Larsen] call me - poor leadership begets poor behavior. What a piss-poor example of good business practices. I see these nice reviews about the ladies who work there, and that has always been my experience [kudos to them] - get rid of this impulsive/abusive bozo! Otherwise ..... There's lots of storage units around town - LOOK / GO ELSEWHERE if you don't want to deal with a Ryan! Given their business practices, I'll update if / when the owner shows the character / concern / business acumen to actually call me back like a human who cares about her customers and business reputation, or when they retaliate by terminating my lease as threatened by Ryan 3+ times [because, you know, if you argue with irrational behavior, they will threaten to terminate you because that's how they roll]. Recently rented a space for my camper there. I paid for the month and the spot they gave me was uneven, I could barely get my camper into the spot and I asked them for a better spot. They told me no and then a week later they told me I needed to move my camper ASAP. My truck was in the shop getting a new rebuilt ECM and that takes time. I told them I would move it as soon as I could and they gave me a 24 hour notice to vacate. My month of pay wasn't even up yet and they refused to give me another spot initially. Horrible experience and I suggest finding another option. They told me that people were complaining about my camper, it was in the very back corner and you could park a 747 airplane back there. I asked for a better spot day one, they answered with one word and said"NO", and harassed me for three weeks as a new customer and then sent me a 24 hour notice. I was told it was because I didn't respond to their harassing texts and calls ( which were 2-3!) I honestly want the cost of one day rent back, I paid until the 1st and I was out on the 31st! Horrendous customer service, refused my request for a better spot and then harassed me after I told them I would move it as soon as I could. They didn't listen to me, then proceeded to harass me. read more

I've been a tenant at this mini storage unit downtown storage for the past 2 years. My boyfriend and I went into rent him a storage unit this past week. He ended up having a heart attack in the office. The staff there hope to see CPR on him to get him breathing and called 911. And I want to thank them very much for their service. If you have anything that's precious to you and need to store it somewhere where it's safe and dry I recommend downtown storage. I give them five stars read more

I have had my stuff here for about a year. They are straight up and super helpful. I recently cleared out my stuff and accidentally left a rail of my bed frame. They kept it for me and were super helpful when I came to get it. It was an easy, safe place for my stuff! read more

I called and spoke to Kathy (who was very polite and helpful) mid week to learn about options on storage units to rent over the summer for my son who is a student at University of Oregon. She said units were going fast and that I could not rent over the phone. Rather he'd have to show up ASAP with cash for the first month and show an ID. I said he'd need it starting mid June. Not a problem she said. My son does not have a car so he got his roommate to drive him. He showed up today and a gentleman working there said he could not rent it out starting mid June. The rental would start today. So my son would essentially be paying for one month he does not need. Maybe that is the policy, but that is not what Kathy said as I clarified he'd start mid June once classes ended. Having no choice I told my son to go ahead and pay for the extra month. The guy was upset with me because I was frustrated for having to pay the extra month and refused to rent to my son. He asked me what would I like him to do. I said rent it starting mid June. He said he can't do that and that Kathy must have made a mistake. I said I clarified with her it would start mid June and she said it would not be a problem. Well evidently it is a problem. All I have to say is - real nice. My son inconvenienced his roommate and showed up with the cash and he refused to rent a unit to him. I will keep this review clean, but folks should know that other than Kathy there is one rude guy there that won't rent to college students. Avoid the headache. Very unprofessional. 2:30 am and my wife by my side, U-haul truck stuffed to the gills with detritus of five years in Portland, the familiar stretch of I-5 in front of us. A marathon packing job lasting 6 straight hours saw our adult lives packed into boxes and carefully labeled and categorized and everything else weeded out to the garbage for lack of space. Eugene was our destination but we had yet to find an apartment. We needed to put all of this somewhere while we sorted things out. I personally am for the most part completely against the idea of becoming a pack rat and storing things in Mini-Storage for eternity on the thought that the contents are more valuable than the cost of storing them for months (years?, decades?). I placated my internal struggles by convincing myself we would find a place soon and relieve my angst and financial burden in new digs near the University. It took slightly longer than expected so I'm glad we found Downtown Mini-Storage to store our stuff. Downtown Mini-Storage is a bit of a misleading name in the fact it is not downtown at all but halfway to the airport near the intersection of the train tracks and Chambers/River Rd. Also they clearly do more than mini storage because there were quite a few large boats and RV's as well. The front desk service is friendly and the cost was reasonable for an unconditioned unit. The gate was secured with a passcode and the units were clean and well lit. We ended up using storing our things there for 2 months but that seemed reasonable and they prorated the beginning and ending of our storage. I hope not to need to use mini-storage much in the future but this experience certainly changed my attitude toward it slightly. It can be very useful if used in moderation and will not necessarily create any long term health risks. read more

This storage rental business is pretty good for what it is. The employees are friendly and it's pretty centrally located. They have some of the cheaper prices when I called around to different businesses a year ago but they did raise my monthly fee by three dollars last month so hopefully that doesn't happen often. They only take cash or check when it comes to paying your monthly bill. The units themselves are nothing special. The whole place is gated and you need a code to get in. I've only seen the non-temperature controlled units but they seem fine so far. They offer a hand truck to unload your things into the storage unit and they also let people store their boats and RVs there. read more

I would have liked to give this place a decent review, however upon leaving my tenancy, I returned their lock and two of the three keys, and they explained that since I was short one key, they would be keeping my full deposit. We are talking about 25 cents worth of metal, people. Any company that is that hard up to make a quick buck, is definitely not one I would recommend to anybody. Also, the hours are not convenient, I was told I needed to be out by 7pm. When I noticed other people there at the off-hours, and I inquired about this- I was told you have to have a larger unit in order to receive a different code for the additional hours. read more

I have a great little unit that is inside and that I can drive right up to. By Inside I mean I drive into the giant building. It's pretty cool! Not all of the interior "climate controlled" units are drive up, some are down little passageways, so be sure you go in and look at the maps with the friendly staff when you sign up. I put "climate controlled" in quotation marks because it's not like it's some museum quality climate control. It is kept at a nice even cool temperature and seems dry enough. My only complaint is that a lot of the lights are burnt out in the main building, and while it's basically light enough to see in my unit (the ones above it are currently working) it's best if you remember to take a battery operated lantern. It might feel a little creepy to some, but I grew up in an old house with a rather creepy basement and attic and I feel right at home there. Again, it's best to go in and see what's available. The front desk person will probably show you around, but I think there''s usually only one person even working there at a time, so sometimes that may not work. Friendly, convenient, affordable. I feel like maybe they don't take credit cards as I always pay with a check, but maybe I'm in an old rut or something. Oh, and you get a little discount if you pay 6 months at a time in advance! read more

Kathy is extremely unprofessional. She screamed at me, a customer who was being polite to her. I literally said "I'm sorry, Ma'am, but I'm going to need help getting in my unit" and she screamed at me. She is like 80 years old, gets stressed in this high-paced environment and can't handle the stress. She has poor communication skills and terrible customer service skills. When given the opportunity to apologize for screaming for no reason, she just kept blaming me even though there were several other customers standing around witnessing the entire thing. I cannot bring myself to recommend a place with this horrible customer service. And she did not even bother to give me my pro-rated rent back for the two days I moved out early. Further, they don't take credit cards or debit cards? They raise their rates every few months. If you're looking for storage units, you can do way better. Kathy is a dinosaur and so are their payment options. read more

Renter Beware! As of today (01-18-15) Downtown Mini Storage (DMS) continues to have on-going problems with its Main Buildings (the "heated" one) roof leaking---which can destroy the contents of your unit(s). Don't expect to have this leaking roof fixed before this summer (2015). The owners have been aware of the roof leaking during the rains but they have been unwilling to remedy their known leakage problems---even when they could have done so during the dry months in the summer of 2014. 1.) If you don't have Renters Insurance you will not be compensated for the damage done to your belongings by DMS negligence around having adequate roof protection. 2.) Downtown Mini Storage owners are being negligent in their duties to safely store your items. 3.) DMS owners are also being negligent by not informing their renters that their unit(s) have water leaking onto their items. 4.) DMS essentially has their workers mop up the standing water in the unit hallways on rainy days. 5.) By the time a renter goes to their unit(s), the water could have been coming into their unit(s) for days/weeks/months (sometimes things dry out between soakings). 6.) Beware of the owner, Don, who will physically assault a person who complains about the inadequate job being done by the owners---to ensure safe storage of a trusting public's belongings. read more
