If I could give a zero star- i would. I brought three computers to them - there was not a repair for any of them except the obvious of a fan replacement. I bought another computer from them. It quite working within 3 months and blamed me for them not having installed windows 11 having had it being a determinmental sign. Now, another 60$ after purchasing a computer for $400- i can not get my computer back. they claimed that they rang me several times- they DID NOT. Now, I don't get my hostage computer back. what the heck. No one should ever go there. it is such a scam. read more

On a whim, I popped into this small computer/cell phone repair store. I was leaving a doctor's appointment in the medical building next door, and I had a few business cards in hand that needed to be laminated. I had intended on stopping by Staples to get these cards laminated, but thought I'd check to see if this small shop would do the job. And I'm so glad I did! The guy who works here is the nicest guy around, and he was so helpful. He said they usually laminate documents for $10/sheet, but he'd laminate my two cards for $5. TOTAL. I know for a fact that this is a LOT less than Staples would have charged. And it was done in a few minutes and the cards look fantastic, trimmed perfectly and protected. There were two other customers in the store, and I could see that this place does a lot more than laminations. They repair laptops and iPads and cell phones, replaces all batteries, rents out all sorts of electronic devices, sells a lot of cell phone accessories, de-bugs electronic devices and fixes screens, sells karaoke machines, and they even take passport photos. I was really impressed with the wide range of services offered here. And how nice the guy working here is. And I see on their business card that they give free estimates. He gave me a couple of options for repair plus told me they would do their best to save what data they could. The repair was done in a couple of days and they managed to save more data than I expected. Several weeks later my computer is running well. read more

They will try to SCAM you. Avoid at all cost. I took my Apple Macbook Pro 13-inch Retina (Late 2013) in to have the display assembly replaced. They quoted $490 for a new assembly replacement. Being busy with a move, I agreed but when I arrived to pick up my computer I noticed something odd. The lid to my laptop had a weird texture. I asked why and the guy (I believe the owner) told me that, "that is how Apple does it at the factory". Knowing this is not true, I pick at the lid's corner and it turns out to be an after market silver, cosmetic, plastic sticker, meant to cover and protect the lid. After I peeled it off I could see numerous scratches and dents in the lid and I realize they have simply swapped an old assembly from someone else's computer onto mine, despite charging me for a new assembly. The owner persists in saying, "No no no, it is a new part. Straight from Apple factory. They have to use special machine to replace." So now I figure I better open my computer and that's when I see a property stamp, stamped directly on connecting hinge. Yet the owner continues to argue, claiming it is all new. I hold up the cheap after market self adhesive cover, point at all the scratches and dents and take pictures of the stamp with my cell phone, all as proof this is an old assembly swapped from another computer and yet he still denies it's someone else's old, used assembly stating, "I never saw these things before!" This insanity and bold face lying goes on for about 30 minutes while I demand my original assembly back but he tells me they will have to keep my computer and I will have to return in a few days. I obviously don't trust them at this point and he denies it's a five minute swap job. He keeps telling me that they need a factory machine to do it and it's very complicated. That's when I take tools from his counter, open my computer, remove the assembly, drop it on his counter and close up my computer before having to leave the store with a receipt for my original assembly. I did that in less than 10 minutes (took me a bit longer than five minutes because they had the wrong tools for the job). This guy continued to lie to me despite the massive proof I had in my hands. I've never kicked up a fuss in public before but this situation was a massive blow up as I got into a huge argument / shouting match with this guy. In the end I purchased a new assembly from a reputable source for $320 and installed it within minutes myself. The picture below shows the man who animately lied to me while he was holding the cheap plastic sticker that hid the scratches and dents of the used assembly they tried to push on me. Avoid these guys. And if not, you can't say you weren't warned. ;) UPDATE: The owner complained about the incriminating photo taken, of him in his store, and had Yelp remove it. read more

I was asked by a neighbour computer to fix software that had been "repaired" by this shop. The computer's owner thought he'd gotten a virus, and brought it to them; I'm suspicious that his computer actually had any problem at the time. However, when he took the computer in, it had a valid Windows licence. When he got it back the licence was invalid and Windows says "it cannot be validated". Also, my friend asked me if "I could get his photos back". It turns out, DCC had backed up his files, but left them in a folder on the Desktop, rather than actually restoring them. I too have gotten rude/questionable service from this shop. Why have they been around so long, then? They're the only such shop in the area. Best Buy is probably a safer choice for repairs. read more

Was really satisfied but would of liked if the location was a bit more convenient as downtown is hard to find parking. I had to argue with the owner (Eddie) until he gave me back my deposit. Instead it was "we checked the machine before you left." Needless to say, Eddie would not refund my rental costs. Instead, he immediately got defensive and was saying, "are you calling my employee a liar." Total set up. Check their other yelp reviews to see a history of similar dealings. Jerks. It's funny, now seeing all the other poor reviews they've gotten, I understand why the owner, Eddie, had zero regard for my concerns. I went in there at 1:30PM today to rent a projector. I was told by my boss to get a Mini-DVI adapter. The guy who helped me, Richard, was very short with me and unfriendly. We went straight to our meeting from their office. When we got to our meeting my boss told me that they gave us the wrong adapter. You'd think computer people would know which adapter is correct. I returned the projector two hours later and asked for a refund. I was told I would have to talk to Eddie but that he wasn't in. I called back just now and Eddie was a jerk. He basically laughed into the phone and said it's not his problem and that I should have known what adapter we needed. I guess I should have read these reviews first. read more

Love this place! I have had all my computer repair work done here since moving to Vancouver (before switching to Mac making repair stores a mute point) and highly recommend it to anyone using PC's. The guys here are really fair and the owner is super honest about his quotes and services. I thought my old Sony Vaio was absolutely eff'ed before taking it here. In 24 hours they had it ready to go with a complete re-installation of windows including MS Office and Avasti free antivirus all for roughly $60. These guys are smart and fast, two hugely important factors when you're dealing with a product that we depend on daily. I've also bought a couple of smaller Mac and PC products here. If you're looking for small accessories check them out, I found a PC HDMI cord with MAC conversion both for under $15, way better price than I could find elsewhere! read more

Update: I brought my laptop to an Authorized Asus shop, and they showed me what Downtown Computer had done. Apparently in the process of taking apart my Laptop, they COMPLETELY tore apart a connection to the motherboard. And they "tried" to rectify the situation by cutting a crap load of cables and soldering all over the place; This is SUCH a discrepancy to what they told me. They simply said "your video card is broken, and it came like this" which if you read my first post, was completely untrue. If my laptop weren't only worth a few hundred dollars, I would spend the time going to small claims courts with these guys. CROOKS! read more

I dropped by the other day to scan a document and was impressed with the service at Downtown Computer Centre as well. Whereas $3 was a bit pricey for scanning a one page document, the overall experience made it worthwhile. While fiddling around with my paperwork I was able to observe how the staff dealt with a couple of customers. I personally have worked as a Technical Service Rep providing IT support and as a IT Helpdesk consultant, and I would be more than happy to work with these people. I could see that the helpful, respectful and patient attitude of the staff, especially of the gentleman with the eastern bloc accent, put the clients at ease, and they were able to leave the store confident that the staff would do their best to help. The pricing for hardware and software looks very reasonable as well. Need another PC to mess around with at home? why not grab a rebuilt Dell laptop for $250? I had a little chat with the staff about upgrading some software and was satisfied with their knowledge and pricing. I'm definitely going back for my next computer-related purchase! read more

Screw this place. The free diagnostic they gave me was super wrong. My motherboard was dead. I knew that going in. When I got there they gave me a list of things that were wrong with my computer. I just wanted to repair it, not change it. The 'estimate' of what it would cost to fix my computer was ~$700. They told me I needed: Motherboard CPU RAM Video card New windows install (extra $100) * recommended new hard drive ...which is a new computer. The guy took a long look at my 6 month old power supply too trying to justify why it wasn't good. This was all complete B.S. I grabbed a new motherboard for $50 bucks taxes in. I've never touched hardware in my life. I switched all the parts out. Just guessed at what to plug in where and then turned it on. It works perfectly. There was nothing fancy or weird or scary I had to do. Screw this place. read more

A satisfied customer is a return customer. I brought in a laptop that had developed a couple of serious glitches, and was informed that the solution was to re-install Windows 10. However, back at home I was shocked that this procedure had resulted in the loss of almost all original factory-installed (HP) applications. After E-mail correspondence, I arranged to bring the laptop back while their technician checked various functions and downloads. While there, I noticed a nice iMac at a an irresistible price. They tossed in a new mouse & keyboard. DTC is conveniently located, and are willing to follow up on solving problems. read more

Took my desktop in a few days ago, because over the weekend, I had a hard drive failure. Normally I go to Firefly Electronics, who I know do good, fast work, but unfortunately, they are closed on weekends, and I needed my computer up and running again quickly. The HD became corrupted and was basically toast, so had to be repaired. I went into the shop already knowing this was the issue, but just in case, I explained my issue and had the owner confirm things. He told me I would have to replace the HD, which was fine, since if was expecting that. He offered to install a new 1tb HD for $99, which is a pretty fair price, or if I wanted, I could get a much faster, but lower capacity 120gb solid state drive for the same price. I appreciated that he offered to do the installation without charging an extra installation fee. I opted for the ssd, since they are much, much faster, and having several external HD's at home, I was fine for storage space. The owner told me my computer should be ready within 1-1.5 hours, and he would call me when it was ready. I had to go to work that evening, so was expecting a message on my phone, but...no message. Dropped by the next day, the owner was out and just his underling was there. When I asked if my computer was ready, and handed him my slip, he said that no, they were still working on it, but didn't offer any other explanation. When I asked him how much longer it would be, he said it should be ready by the end of the day, and they would call to inform me. Again, no phone call. At this point I was getting pretty annoyed, and since Firefly was now open, I went down a third time, with the intention of telling them that if my computer was not ready, I was taking it back and going elsewhere. The owner was in this time, so I immediately spoke to him, and FINALLY got an explanation as to why it took them so long to do a simple HD swap. The ssd I had them install was very thin, and since my computer case was older, it did not have the proper mounting bracket to secure it inside the case. The owner told me about the only thing I could do was get some double sided mounting tape, which I bought at the dollar store across the street, and had them use. The ssd is now secured, and my computer is back up and running beautifully. They did a good job, but my major criticism would be that Downtown Computers needs a serious crash course in proper customer service skills. If they had told me the first day, or even the next, what the issue was and that it would take them a bit longer, I would have been fine with that. Not telling me anything and just leaving me in the dark...not good. If anyone from Downtown Computers happens to read this, be aware that your customers are the reason you are able to stay in business, and more communication is always better than less (or in this case, none at all). First impressions are very important, and often leave a lasting impression on people, so I hope you'll take that into consideration in he future. read more

I am so happy with my newly fixed laptop and my experience of taking it to this store. I read the reviews and was quite worried about leaving my laptop with them, but it's close to where I live and I needed it to be fixed quickly, so I gave them a chance. They were polite on the phone, polite when I went in. Told me they would call in a few days and they did. My laptop needed a few things fixed and they charged me for the new parts. I held my breath and waited for the service charge, but there wasn't one. I have a brand new (again) laptop with a new charger and it was all at a reasonable price. Never, EVER, EVER give these people your business. Ever. I am warning you. They are more corrupt than any dirty file you accidentally download onto your computer. I can't give negative stars, or post "poop pile" emojis and middle fingers, so this will have to do. Here is my story: A year ago, I noticed that my trusty, tank-like laptop was having big issues with its hard drive. Seeing as this place is fairly close to where I live, I figured it would be convenient to have it repaired there. Long story short, they told me it would only be an overnight job, but by the next day they hadn't contacted me and I had to call them myself. They had essentially forgotten about it but "there might be some other issue wrong with it so we need more time" I said no, please just replace the hard drive, and in their gruff, unfriendly way, seemed very annoyed with that. When I picked it up, they were terse and almost just shoved it at me. The laptop itself seemed a bit loose, but at least the HD was working. Over the course of the year, I noticed an ongoing deterioration of the charging port. I would have to bend my cable certain ways in order for the battery to charge, until one day, it stopped charging altogether. Then my laptop came apart--the bottom came right off. My bf told me that there were absolutely no screws that had been holding it together this whole time when he took a close look. Downtown Computer Centre--the last people to have touched my laptop for repair purposes--had actually NOT ever screwed in the bottom plate, not one screw, and the whole machine had somehow held together through sheer will this whole time. I went in there (still had my old HD with their service number on it as proof) and told them what had happened, and that I wanted them to screw it back together without charge. They had my old HD repair info saved to file, so they could see that I had been there for my last repair and wasn't making this up. They were irritated, very rude ("A year ago, huh? That's a long time to wait before coming in here and blaming us"), indifferent, and cold. I told them "Who checks to see if a repair centre does the most basic of things, like putting screws back in? Why would I check that?" They sneered at me and told me to come back the next day. I made sure that they gave me their word I would not be charged for this absurd oversight. Went in the next day, and sure enough, my machine was lying there, taken apart; they hadn't put screws in, and I got a bit more sarcasm and rudeness from the older guy there with white hair, who is likely an owner. I had to wait around for a tech to find the right screws to hold it together, and he said that the charging port was indeed dead, wouldn't work despite the bottom plate finally being screwed in properly, and would need replacing. I said I would find another place to do that for me, as I was unimpressed with their overall service. I was recommended Firefly Electronics in Harbour Centre, and so took my laptop in. What the owners there told me (and showed me photographic proof of) was frightening: Downtown Computer Centre had butchered the insides of my laptop. The hard drive itself wasn't screwed in at all, and was sliding around inside the machine. The bracket securing the charging port was missing altogether. Worst of all, the cables connecting the charging port to the battery were torn, "like an animal," she said in disbelief. "This is vicious, whoever did this. This was intentional." The pictures indeed showed two frayed cables that looked as though somehow had angrily removed them with their teeth. Thank God for Firefly, who were so stunned by this ("Not in ten years have I seen damage done like this to a laptop," they said) and charged me a pittance for all the repair work they did out of compassion and sympathy. I have no legal case against Downtown Computer Centre, there's not much I can do except post this, but believe me...if poor customer service were just the problem, that would be one thing. This was incompetence, this was malice, this was revenge for my daring to challenge and question them for something as basic as screwing the bottom plate of my laptop back on. They are criminals, they are amateur, they are unprofessional, and they are flat-out rude and vengeful and will go out of their way to cause damage to your equipment to make a buck and cause you stress. Stay away. They need to go out of business. read more

I left my netbook to format because it was really slow...when I grabbed it, the computer was still the same, extremely slow and to help, they hadn't installed the Microsoft Office... I called them and the asian guy said they would charge me $15 to install the office...but I had it before on my computer!!!!!!Then, I went to the store to talk with the manager, but the crappy asian guy, again, not friendly AT ALL, doesn't give a shit to my problem and really rude asked me the receipt to prove that I had the job done there...and he remembered me because I was there 2 weeks ago...pppfffffff....CRAPPY CRAPPY!!Don't even waste your time, money and patience there!!!! read more

Random keys on my HP Chromebook weren't functioning, so I searched online to see how to remedy this situation. Doing a 'powerwash' was the first thing to do, and in some cases was all that was needed to be functioning normally. Did the 'powerwash' but same issue, good thing I prepared myself to have it repaired as it was out of warranty. Took it here for convenience sake. I should've left the shop when the tech said "powerwash"? as in, he's never heard of the standard Chromebook function. I left it with him. A few hours later, I get a VM message saying that there was some oxidization on the keys. Picked up it paying $60 assuming it was all scrubbed clean, damn problem started up again a week later. Taking my Chromebook to a place that knows how to service them. read more

Bought an external hard drive from Future Shop and when it broke they wouldn't fix the problem which happened not to be covered by their "warranty." We thought it was a goner along with the data on it but these guys said all we needed is an external case, which is much cheaper than the labour charge to fix the part. It ended up being an inexpensive fix and we were in and out in 10 minutes. read more

A couple of years ago I had a 2007 Macbook that got fried. They did an excellent job of recovering the data (photos in particular) and even though I know they ran into some unexpected problems and it ended up being a lot more work than they expected they still honoured their original price and we got all the data. So this year I took another Macbook to them that was running extremely slow. They installed additional RAM, reinstalled the OS and backed up all the data. They gave an estimate (on the weekend within 24 hours) and after approved they had the computer ready for me within 24 hours for what I think was a reasonable price. No complaints about the service or costs. Very polite and willing to explain in plain English. read more

Spend your money Elsewhere. This place is an absolute fly by night operation. I bought a used HP elitebook from Eddie the owner. Took it home and it shorted out 20 minutes after plugging it in. I took it back and after 10 hours Eddie freaked out on me stating that I was trying to rip him off after he alleges I took it apart. He threatened to call immigration on me for some reason and banned me from his store. He stated that because he did not give a receipt I had no warranty. I took the laptop to another store for assessment and was told that the cpu fan's foil cover had peeled up and shorted out the power switch circuit. I am out 150.00 for the laptop and another 80.00 for the assessment. read more

This place is DISHONEST and i would not trust my laptop or any other electronic device with them. They shame the IT world with their unprofessional behavior. I went to this store to get my mac keyboard fixed(it was missing a couple keys) and they told me in order to do this i have to buy a new casing because they come as a pair. So i paid them $180 bucks and waited for the piece to arrive. They call me a week later and tell me they can just fix the keyboard and they dont have to replace the case and it would only cost $180 i already paid. I went in dropped my laptop off and when i got it back the backlight was no longer working. I called other stores asking about the case and they said if its from a legit seller the only way for them to separate them was to rip it apart(rip the keyboard from the case). In doing so they broke my backlight and then when i confronted them about it they said that they got it like that. I argued for so long with them basically saying, why would i bring in my laptop to have you just fix the keyboard if my backlight was also broken, aka you broke it and now you are covering it up. I told the guy to look me in the eye and tell me that he is sure my backlight was broken and he did, he lied to my face. read more

I've always been happy with the service and the prices. The owner and his staff are friendly and efficient. The work is done the day I take it in or by the next day, if they are really busy. Phillip is there now, and in addition to the work I needed him to do, he kindly helped me with another problem, free of charge, that the Microsoft store guy tried to fix but was not successful. Also, my husband bought a recycled Acer from them that he used for several years. read more

This store is a joke. Brought my old desktop to fix it, they charged me 100 box. 2 days later, it crash again, when I took it back they told me the computer was done and that nothing can be done. Pointing that they supposely fixed it 2 days earlier, I was expecting some kind of consideration for this expensive bill i just paid, the owner was not willing to consider any kind of responsabilities and it was just too bad. 2 days later, a friend of mine came home and fixed the computer in 30 minutes. I dropped my laptop off hoping to get a quick fix. I knew that my screen needed replacement from my research on the exact problem, so I figured they could get it done quickly. They tried to take me for a ride and told me my motherboard was shot and needed repair . I told them they had no I deal what they were talking about and to NOT to do anything to my computer and I would pick it up right away . When I got there they already had a new screen in it, which was the original problem fix. I told them to take it out and put my computer together, as it was 159$ and I was pissed these people tried to ripped me off and then push a sale on me . They took apart my whole computer ( which was so unnecessary, just watch a video on YouTube ) and put back my computer with the broken screen and I left. I just put in the screen I ordered from Amazon for 50$ And now notice they only replaced about half of the screws in the computer . Now it turns off every time you move it , they were just lazy and didn't put it back together . These people are both dishonest and incompetent. Go elsewhere read more

I wish I would have read these reviews before taking my Iphone for a simple battery change. I originally called on Friday evening asking how long it will take for a battery to be replaced. The guy estimated around 2 hours but because was already late I decided to be there early on Saturday. When handed him the phone he told me to come back the following day. Anyways after I reminded him the conversation we had agree to do it faster. I got back after 2-3 hours just to be handed a phone with the home button not working anymore. I left it there and came back on Monday. It still wasn't fixed and the guy didn't seem to have a clue what to do about it. I got really pissed and I asked for a spare until they'll fix it. Finally I got it back on Tuesday afternoon and wasn't offered any discount or at least apologies. Even more the guy was mumbling something like the button wasn't working from the beginning. What i think of downtown computer. Well they ripped me off about 600 dollars. Now I have no photos or memories left that i once had on my computer. I went there to get my computer fixed because my bf had spilled some water on it and it wasnt working. So i dropped it off and then they called me a few days later to tell me i needed a new harddrive and that they replaced my old one and had saved all my photos and everything. So i paid the 250 plus tax and went on about my day. Computer at the time seemed to be working great. But for some reason i couldnt open any of my photos in iphoto at all. So i brought it back a few times and they couldnt seem to figure it out. So i just let it go and moved on. But again about a couple months later i noticed my computer being glitchy and not working anymore. By this time i had moved to Prince Rupert so i wasnt able to bring it back to DOWNTOWN COMP CENTRE so i brought it to a place in Rupert. I get call a coupe hrs later from the computer tech guy wondering why I had a PC hard drive that had a sticker on it that said "for parts only" in my MAC COMPUTER???? The idiots here at DOWNTOWN COMPUTER CENTRE put it in there. Which also made me get a 7482748923 viruses and was just completely messed up. The whole ordeal costed me another 300 bucks. So in total i spent around 600 bucks to get my computer fixed when i could have jut bought a new one. When we called them they acted like they had done nothing and acted like complete assholes and would not do anything for me. I reported them to better business bureau and they ignored them and didnt respond back. I would not in a million years let these guys on my personal computers. read more
