I had a laptop that had no power button. Well it did until an ex bf decided if he couldn't take it when we broke up, I wasn't going to be able to use it! Crazy ( I paid for it ! ) Anyway, that was years ago and it had been in storage ever since . It was new when he broke it so I figured why not see if it could be fixed. I looked around at possibilities, and saw good reviews for Firefly. They were close ( located across from Waterfront station in the Harbour Centre ) I tried to get an online quote on their Yelp page, but it wasn't working. I emailed them, and was told to come down in person. I went to the shop. It was easy to locate, and very clean and organized. I didn't have to wait, and I explained the problem. I didn't get an exact quote, but was told it should be around 60$. I told him I didn't care about what it looked like, as long as it turned on. I also told him to let me know if it was going to be more then 60$ I got an email the next day saying it was ready to be picked up. I replied asking what the total was, but I just went In rather then wait around. It worked like a charm, as I tested it out. He had made a custom power button that was cute and actually looked better then the stock one. The total was around 67$ with tax. Fast, friendly, efficient service. I will be back ! read more

They went above and beyond for my hard drive data loss even though they didn't manage to recover my files. The lady was extremely courteous even when I was calling frequently to check on the status of the repair. They had to close due to the coronavirus but made sure that I got my drive back, and didn't charge me anything despite all the hours they put in. I managed to recover a portion of the data myself with a software I purchased, but I'm grateful for all they did for me. read more

I brought my beats headphones to Firefly to replace the jack in late December 2016. I picked them up a week later. They did not work so I returned them to be repaired. The repair work was very poorly done and the wrong jack was used. I was initially told that this service would cost an additional $40. After a frank conversation with the owner it was agreed that this repair should be completed at no cost. I was told that I could pick my headphones in 1 week. After hearing nothing from Firefly for 2 weeks I went into the shop and asked what was going on? They did not have a clue and even questioned that I had brought my headphones in for repair. After she finally found my headphones I was then told that the correct jack was on back order and they would call me when it arrived. I then informed the owner that I wanted the headphones returned to me. She told me that they were the only company that could repair the headphones. I retrieved my headphones and they were repaired by Sortech in North Vancouver the next day. They have worked perfectly ever since. There was no issue with a backorder for the correct jack. I was told by the Sortech owner that not only was the jack that was installed by Firefly was the wrong jack but the repair work was terrible. It is now April 25 and I have not heard a word back. I am out of pocket $60.00. This company is a joke. read more

A geek's idea of heaven I have purchased quite a bit of computer equipment from Firefly. From a home server which runs like a charm, to small stuff like cables, RAM and drives. This is a small, family run operation - a bit fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants in some ways, but they typically know what they are talking about, won't BS you if they don't, offer some great advice, and are significantly less expensive than many of the other computer outlets downtown. They are small, and as a result don't carry a lot of big name brands. They have a lot of geek stuff for the "cool" factor that keeps me stopping by. I have an iPhone 3GS and I've been trying to hold out until either a) I run out the last year of my Telus contract or b) they announce the iPhone 5 (or preferably both). The phone's getting a bit slow, but I wasn't having any other problems until I realized that what I thought were broken headphones was actually a broken headphone jack. At first, I thought I'd fix it myself, but unlike a screen replacement, it didn't look so easy (the headphone jack, volume control, and ringer switch are all connected via some very fragile looking ribbon connector). So, I took the phone into the Apple Store, where the only option other than upgrade was to buy an out-of-warranty replacement for $180+tax. A friend at work suggested Firefly, so I took it in. The guy behind the counter took a look at it and let me know it would be $55+tax to fix (he even pulled out an old disassembled phone to show me the parts he'd be replacing), let me know it would be an hour and a half or so, and sent me on my way at about 3pm. By the time I returned after work at 5pm, the phone (or at least the part he worked on) was functioning as good as new. When I gave it a quick test, he even implored me to test it harder before I left. I didn't take a long look at the rest of their stuff, but they seemed to have a pretty great selection of computer and phone parts as well as chargers/chords/cables for a bunch of different makes and models of phones and laptops too. TL;DR version: friendly, efficient service for a busted iPhone at less than 1/3rd the price of an out-of-warranty replacement. read more

$170 scam. Students do not come here with any Apple / MacBook products. They told me they could replace the DVD drive. They replaced it with a used drive not Mac compatible - I got home and it did not work. It ejected "every single disc, that played at the library, MacStore, and my other MacBook. Finally, one disc just got jammed and would not eject. I doubt this was a working drive they installed. They obviously thought they could make fast money from a student. All the DVD discs played on the old drive. But the owner said it required a new DVD drive. Foolishly I trusted them. I asked them nicely if they tried it after they installed it. I was told yes. So, I went home and it did not work. I returned the next day angry for getting scammed. I asked if they tried it before they gave it to me. I was told yes. The woman said they tested it with a DVD. So, I asked her to show me the DVD's they played. She quickly grabbed my laptop and took it to her husband hiding in the back. She never showed me the DVD they played. I doubt her husband tested it after he installed the DVD drive. They knowingly installed a used DVD drive from an old computer. And they sold me a "new" magsafe charger. Total charges were $170. A very expensive charge. I demanded and received a refund. I immediately took my MacBook to Vancouver Mac on Kingsway. Today, they replaced the DVD drive with proper Apple drive, and provided me a new Magsafe charger for a total of $90 - half of what this shop charged me. Scandalous! read more

My HyperX Cloud2 gaming headset suddenly stopped working one day. There was no sound coming out from the left headphone and the microphone was not working. I searched a few different headphone repair places and found that firefly gave me the second lowest quote at 35 dollars. I decided to come because it was super close to the waterfront skytrain station. I brought it in and told them about the problem with the headset not working on the left side and left it to them to fix It was fixed perfectly fine and they let me test it at their shop. I forgot to tell them about the microphone issue as well (because I am quite bad at socializing and it already took a lot to even talk to the man) and had to take it back in. I expected to have to pay another 35 dollars for the fix but to my surprise the owner only charged me 10 as they had repaired it previously. The headset works now and it beats paying another 90 dollars for another gaming headset read more

It took a nightmare to find these guys, who are a dream come true. Now, because I'm going to write about Downtown Computer Centre on their Yelp page, I won't get into much detail here except to say that they INTENTIONALLY AND MALICIOUSLY destroyed my laptop. No joke. NEVER go to them. They are crooks and thieves, and when I complained about how they had neglected a basic repair on my laptop, they accused me of lying and sneered at me, but took my laptop to take care of their massive oversight and said to pick it up the next day. My bf insisted this was not to be charged, as it was their glaring error. These guys, unbeknownst to me at the time, essentially went about hacking away at my laptop, and when I got it back, they told me that the charging port was dead and that it needed replacing. Cut to Firefly Electronics, who were recommended to me by a business owner in Yaletown, of all places, as I did not want to return to Downtown Computer Centre. My bf dropped off my laptop, telling her I needed a replacement for the charging port, and the woman at Firefly (Anna, I believe), informed him she would call me with an estimate and times. Anna indeed called in regards to my laptop and said she had never seen anything like it; Downtown Computer Repair had treated my laptop "like animals, like they did this because they were mad at you," and described to me what they had done. She assured me that I had suffered enough and they would take care to fix all the damage that had been done (hard drive not screwed in so it was sliding around, bracket missing around it, cables connecting charging port to battery torn out as though with teeth), and that they would check the hard drive as well and scan it to ensure that wasn't damaged either. "I have never seen anything like this in ten years, even if they were mad at you, this is low" she said. But she was compassionate and caring and clearly wanted to help me with this situation. I waited out the day, and lo, Anna called me around 4 to say they had successfully repaired it, and charged me FAR less than what bloody Computer Repair Centre was asking for JUST a replacement. I went into the shop after work to meet her and her husband, we talked about cats, and they showed me the photos they had taken of the mangled insides of my laptop. Her husband--just as kind as she is--admitted that when he saw what had been done to my laptop, he thought someone had dropped it off as a joke, a prank, it was that bad. The pictures were beyond belief. They went the extra mile to salvage what had been almost destroyed. The owners went far and above the call of duty, did an impeccable job making sure all potential issues were taken care of (the machine is running more smoothly than ever,), charged me very little, and they now have a customer for life. They are warm, professional, caring, and take their jobs very seriously. It took the worst place in the city to lead me to the hands-down best place in the city for electronics repair, and for that, I guess I have those criminals to thank. read more

This is by far the best place I have gone to repair my iphone. I have a bad, expensive habit of cracking my screen and damaging my phone. As a result of my clumsiness, I have probably been to every phone repair shop in the Downtown area. Everywhere else will overcharge and take longer to fix your product. This is the best computer store of its kind in Vancouver. They carry a wide variety of things in the store--if you're looking for a part you can't find elsewhere, they probably have it. Their prices are fair and their service is polite, personalized, and old-school. They also sell custom built computers, and do repairs. I've never had anything repaired by them but they've helped me out of a few jams with computer things I needed. This is an honest business that provides good service and sells things for a reasonable price--something of a rarity in this day and age. read more

This is the first and last time I will ever go to Firefly Electronics. To summarize, not only did they not fix my headphones, but I was returned my headphones in worse condition than when I brought them in. I accidentally cracked the band on my pair of Beats wireless headphones and my brother took them to Firefly Electronics for repairs while I was away on a work trip. They said they didn't have a rose gold band, but they had a white one and asked if my brother would like a white band instead. My brother replied that he would think about it and then get back to them because he had to ask me first. I did not want a white band on my rose gold headphones. But before my brother could call back to tell them to just return the headphones without changing the band, they had called my brother to let him know that they already changed the band to a white band and that the headphones were ready to be picked up soon. I was quite angry that they did this without confirming with my brother. But I understand that perhaps this was due to miscommunication or an error on their part, and mistakes happen. So my brother asked, upon my request, to change the band back to my original broken band and we will take my headphones elsewhere to be repaired. Firefly electronics put my original broken band back on the headphones but the headphones, when returned to my brother, were in a much worse state than before. Not only were there scratches on the headphones, but the band wasn't placed on properly and the wire was much more exposed, and it clearly wasn't in good hands. I was mortified. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt when the first mistake happened, but mishandling a client's product is not what I expected from them. I haven't gotten an apology and my brother has informed me that the staff were rude to him during this process. I am beyond angry, I am truly disappointed. read more

Terrible service. Had my screen replaced with a one year warranty. The screen began leaving black leakage/dead pixels two days later. They would not honour my warranty and said it was physical damage even though there was absolutely no physical damage whatsoever. Also the service is slow and very pricey. Great service. They fixed my headset pretty quickly and held it until I was able to pick it up. I really didn't want to buy a new headset for another hundred dollars and they fixed it at a pretty reasonable price. Make sure you indicate what you want fixed so they can give you a quote. Fixing wires and making sure the mic also works after are 2 separate jobs... But all in all, it was still cheaper than buying my limited edition headset off eBay or craigslist again. read more

I will not be returning to this business. The client service I received was very poor. Specifically, the saleswoman was rude when I came back with a complaint about the product she had sold me a couple of hours previously (she'd specifically recommended it, based on my description of my needs) and refused a refund or exchange. Her only "solution" was to offer to sell me an addition product at 50% off the regular price. Never ever again! Rude and poor..ehm no service! I had to repair my display of Iphone 4s. First, I was told it will take an hour, as I agreed they told me 1,5 hour. I came back after 1,5 hour and they told "It is not done, yet." I was wondering why and how much longer it will take. They were already annoyed and told me, they repaired a wrong/another iPhone and minim 45min more to wait. I was disappointed and they started to be really rude. Then I asked what they can do for me after they did such a mistake and the lady told me "what you want? There is no magic!" Are you seriously?? Such high level of rudeness and non professional work!
