I am very new to running and noticed that I was experiencing pain in my arch while running in my regular sneakers. I went to Downingtown Running Company to find a better pair of running shoes. Seems like a pretty great small business. My son just got into track, and we were told this is the place to go. Good selection, my son found a few pairs that he liked, and the owner was very helpful. Prices were reasonable, about what I saw online, maybe a couple bucks more (but no shipping). I did read the comments about selling a larger size, so I asked, and also looked online. I popped in to Downingtown Running Company on a saturday morning looking for new walking shoes. Mary greeted me immediately and asked several great questions about what I needed. She matched me with the perfect pair of Brooks right away but asked if I wanted to try a few other pairs just in case. We settled on the Brooks and then she offered 4 colors to choose from! Very nice store; however, they don't carry my size, so I won't be able to shop there. The salesperson tried to get me to buy shoes that were a half size size up. Seemed counterproductive. Why would you want to set someone up to have to return the shoes and have issues? Would love the opportunity to support a local business, but they need to carry more sizes, and/or just apologize that they don't have your size and not try to put your feet in the wrong shoe. read more

I haven't bought anything from this store (yet!), but the guy who is always working there (the owner?) is so nice. Whenever I do my long runs around Downingtown, I stop in for a cup of water and to say hello to him. He has even let me leave my car key with him at the desk on days when I've forgotten my running belt or just felt like running without it. I'm definitely planning to pick up a few things from here the next time I need them to "return the love"! read more

I stopped by here to get a pair of running shoes and decided on the Brooks Ghost (men's); the owner takes the time to watch you walk and run in the shoe to try to get the proper shoe. I bought them and took them home; then I used them a couple of times in the next week and discovered that the left shoe was a little too tight and made the back of my heel bleed. So I called the owner and told him about it; he said bright them back in and we'll see what we can do. So I brought them in and he made an even exchange for the next half size up and didn't charge me any extra. I'm really impressed with this shop; they have a wide selection of shoes and the owner really cares about what he sells. read more

I was having difficulty finding a pair of good shoes for walking, saw a coupon in a mailer about this place, and was so glad that I went there. The man and woman working there, maybe husband and wife? Owners? Were extremely attentive, knowledgeable and so very helpful. I must've tried on 20 pairs of shoes, and finally settled on a pair that I am very happy with, thanks to their detailed attention. I want to like this store, I really do. I'm a runner who lives less than 5 miles from there and it seems to have a great selection of apparel, gear, and shoes. However, my recent experience there was very subpar. I went for new running shoes and talked with the employee about my current shoes. He asked no questions about my mileage, my gait, my foot strike. His only advice was that I should really move up a half size with my running shoes. He was so insistent that even though I hadn't needed a larger size in the past, I ended up buying shoes that were bigger because I really trusted his input. I ran in them a few times and developed ankle and knee pain; the shoes felt too big and my feet moved around too much. I brought them back to the store less than 2 weeks later. They were in near perfect condition. The owner was fairly rude to me and said that because this is "my responsibility, I chose the shoes" that he needed to charge me a $15 restocking fee in order for me to exchange the shoes for ones that properly fit.I didn't expect the extra charge, especially considering the fact that I was talked into those shoes by one of their employees. I've been in this store multiple times and have yet to encounter a talkative, friendly employee who asks the right questions to help me find the right pair of shoes. read more

This 'running store' lacks integrity, technical savvy, and is substandard for customer service. They clearly demonstrated lack of anatomical/product knowledge as well as the return policy typical of their competitors. The staff refused to allow me to return/exchange an expensive pair of sneakers, which had caused debilitating tendinitis after a single use, due to misfitting. They also refuted my podiatrist's diagnosis and its relatedness to the shoes and urged me to continue wearing them! When I declined, and requested the style specifically recommended by my doctor, they tried to sell me a different style because the requested one was out of stock. My experience at this store is not unique based on first-hand reports I have heard from others. Preserve your body and visit a legitimate running store. read more
