I really benefitted in coming to this store. I am what I think is a less traditional customer, at least in my mind. Mid 50's Walker. No races, no running groups etc. I basically walk 3-3.5 miles every morning at 5 am. Well, I experienced some discomfort in the ball of my foot and decided to check out shoes that might be better than to "off the rack" Amazon Ascics I am accustomed to. They assess my gait and recommend a shoe for that style. Saucony is the brand I selected at roughly 2x the cost of Amazon but a WORLD of difference in performance. These sneakers are cushioned and have more control. After 2 rest days and wearing I am pain/discomfort free. No judgement here, even though I don't look like a seasoned running guy. We absolutely loved this place when we stopped by! The young lady who helped me pick out and try on sneakers was so knowledgeable about the shoes, I was rather impressed! She explained what sneaker would be the best for me! She helped me pick out several different pairs and then assisted me with trying them on! She even measured my foot to determine the size and width of my foot! As we got to know each other, she told me about their walking and running club on Monday nights at 6pm., so please show up if you would like to join in on the fun! Their merchandise is impeccable! I just Love the bold colors that are in for the winter! I also noticed! The young lady started an account for me and was able to add what shoes I liked, along with my shoe size for the next time I go in, I won't need to try anything on if I don't feel like it, everything I need is saved in the computer for me! A friend recommended this place and I've been buying my shoes here for years now. The employees are awesome and will definitely get you a pair that works for you. They measure you, watch the way you walk, and look at your wear patterns to get the best fit. On my first visit I was dead set on getting this one pair, but the guy told me it was a bad fit and that I shouldn't get it. I ended up buying both and his choice was way better in the long run. What struck me was that he strongly suggested I take his recommendation even though it was $30 less than the pair I was looking at. That he cared more about how my shoes fit than making the extra money spoke volumes to me. Since then I pretty much take their recommendation and I've never been disappointed with any pair they picked for me. Saw Dr. Luksch at ML Health / Rothman for an ankle injury and he recommended Superfeet insoles from The Running Place. Just visited and Ken helped me. He was really attentive and thorough. He looked at my existing orthotics and made Superfeet recommendations based on their shape. I tried different styles and found one that felt right. Ken was well-informed about the product and how it works. He answered all of my questions, and was very friendly. He even cut the new insoles to fit my Mizuno sneaks by using another Mizuno pair he had on hand as an insole template. Great service here. Wow. What a gem! I started running recently, and quickly realized that my 9 (!!!) year old sneakers are not doing me any favors. So I headed out to The Running Place. They watched me walk and run, and did a thorough inspection of my old sneakers, all to determine my foot strike and which sneakers would work best for me. They sat with me for at least 45 minutes as I tried on a number of different shoes - I literally ran up and down the parking lot with each pair - until I found THE ones. I ended up with a cute pair of Mizunos that run like a dream. They also have running skirts there - the kind I like with the big pockets - which I have only seen online. I got sports bras, shirts, running capris, running skirts, and shoes. They couldn't have been nicer, more patient, and more knowledgeable. I will definitely be heading back. read more

I don't think I could give this place justice in a review! I had never heard of them but I purchased a Groupon and was in the market for new running shoes, so I figured I'd check them out. As soon as I arrived the gentleman behind the counter asked my name and introduced himself to me, so I felt like a real person and not just another customer coming through the door. He took plenty of time with me, making sure he really knew what I needed in a running shoe (he watched me walk to check my gait, looked at my old shoes to see my wear patterns, talked to me about how much support I needed in a shoe, told me where I should notice wear in my new shoes to make sure I was running correctly) I tried on many pairs of shoes, and went outside and ran around in each pair I tried. He even said that I could take them home and try them on a treadmill, and if the don't feel just right, I could bring them back. They also save your purchase history so next time you go in, if you liked the shoes you had, they'll know exactly which ones they were. It looked like most shoes were around $99.99, but with the attention I received and the things I learned about running shoes, it was well worth the price. Everyone there was wonderful, and I will absolutely recommend this place to everyone! read more

If I could give more stars, I would! My husband and I went to the store this morning and arrived right at opening. We were helped by Ken, who I seriously could not say enough nice things about!! This was not our first professional fitting, but we moved from out of state, and after not being fitted for a few years, we wanted to go and see what they had to say. I'm glad we found The Running Place! He started us off barefoot with pant legs rolled up and just had us walk in the store, away from him and towards him. He also inspected our running shoes to see where the wear was on them and if it correlated to how we walked. If you are a runner, I would definitely bring in an old pair of shoes so he can see your wear patterns!! Then he measured our foot for size and width with our socks on. He went in the back and chose at least 5 or 6 pairs of shoes he thought might fit us nicely and with each and every one of them asked for our thoughts and feed back on the shoe fit. We never felt rushed at all and when one felt odd or off, we'd try another. If it felt good, he'd have us run outside on the sidewalk of the strip mall to see how they felt while we jogged. After I tried on several pairs, I wound up running down the side walk with a different shoe on each foot- then decided which one felt better and chose that one. I went totally off from my usual running shoe! I even surprised myself! Ken also took the time with us to fill us in on some great running trails and safe areas to run (that are less hilly than our neighborhood!!!) and gave directions to a few! He went above and beyond in just selling me shoes! He listened to my running history and gave me a few ideas about my future races. I am very grateful for the time he gave to both my husband and I today. I could not recommend this store more! read more

I didn't know how much I didn't know about finding the correct fitness shoe, until I was fitted for my first pair of Mizunos a couple of years ago. They know their shoes, they assess how you walk, they'll tweak your laces to fine tune the fit and steer you towards the best shoe to fulfill your needs. I recently drug my spouse (kind of literally), to TRP for a much needed professional fit. He'd been walking, or I should say shuffling, around for the past few years with shoes that were too big. He has some neuropathy in his lower limbs so he wasn't even aware how ill fitting his shoes were. I checked their website to make sure they could help us while we all safely observe mitigation guidelines, and yes they recommended I make an appointment so I did. It was for the same day, but they do take walk ins and I knew we would likely take up some time, so I opted for the appointment. The staff is always helpful and friendly, and Nick was no exception, he was very patient and knowledgeable and helped Joe make the right choice. They carry anything you could think of for the fitness minded, and a large selection of Feetures socks which is the only socks I wear and I've had three foot surgeries. It's important that we patronize our local shops especially right now, and honestly, you cannot go wrong shopping here. read more

I've been looking for a new pair of running shoes and not having any luck. I'm not a BIG runner, I run 3 days a week at the gym or a total of about 12 miles a week. I had ordered a couple of pairs online and just wasn't finding the support I wanted, I also visited a running store in Ardmore felt like the sales person was more interested in making a sale that ensuring that I got the right pair of shoes. Then a friend of mine recommended the Running Place. I was skeptical, but went and I'm so glad I did. I was actually helped by one of the two owners and he was extremely friendly, laid back, and most importantly knowledgable. He took the time to look at my feet, how I walk, what the right size for me would be etc. Then we tried on some shoes and he asked me questions about fit and feel until we narrowed it down to two. I never once felt pressured to buy, he kept stressing that this is about finding the right shoe and if it wasn't in there store that was okay. He also didn't try to up sell me to pricey shoes. I did find a great pair of running shoes, which actually were more expensive, but happened to be on sale at my price point. In addition to being extremely helpful in finding me the right shoe, the owner also said that it is their policy that if I run on them on a treadmill (not outside) and they just don't feel right I could bring them back for either a full refund or an exchange. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for running gear. I typically am the kind of person that will scour the internet for the best deals, but their customer service was so good that I think wherever possible I will be returning to them in the future for all of my workout needs. read more

This is the finest customer service I have ever received at any retail establishment. I have been coming here for about five years along with three children with very different feet and needs. In the past two weeks they found a shoe for my son that was perfect for his VERY wide feet and flat arches. And my daughter, with loose ankles and needing a lot of stability and support had a similar fantastic experience. You wont find the usual $59.99 sporting good store shoes here, these are higher end models, expect to pay between 100 - 150 but they are great shoes and you will find the exact shoe you need for your feet. Great place to buy running shoes. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and it's affordable. Yes, real "running" shoes will run you between $100-$150, but mine were surprisingly only $110, which seemed very fair. I had originally bought a pair of shoes from them at the Broad Street 10 miler Expo and after bringing them home, I decided they weren't my favs. Not only did they let me exchange them for a different pair, but they were very accommodating. The salesman who originally fit me even remembered my name from the Expo. I couldn't be happier with my new shoes and the service. The Running Place offers the best customer experience I have ever had. If you want to find the exact fit for your feet, this is the place to go. I used to browse the store when it was in the NSQ shopping center and pick up deals during sidewalk sales. At the time I was underemployed so I shied away from purchasing my sneakers there in fear it was out of my budget. However, back on my feet and needed to stop wearing sneakers that caused pain when I ran/walked. I stopped in today to check out the new store since they moved. Absolutely Love the bright atmosphere and expanded space! I wish I'd gone sooner since I have wasted serious $$$ on the wrong sneakers. I was amazed at the staff who treats every customer with dedicated attention. I was very impressed with the knowledge and advise I received. I first visited The Running Place in 2010, and I was overwhelmed by the excellent customer service that I received and that my husband received from a separate salesperson. We both walked out with perfect shoes. I needed a new pair of shoes recently, and I came back to be fitted again as I am training for a long distance run. The fitting process from this particular person was disappointing. I brought my old shoes, and told her I wanted the same ones just the newer version. She brought them to me, and I tried them on. She felt them but did not watch me walk, run, etc. in them as the previous salesperson did, but I figured that was just her style. Because of the number of miles I am running, I bought two pairs. I noticed as I was paying that they were half a size larger than what I had before. I asked about it, and she told me that the brand that I purchased runs small so I needed a bigger size. It seemed strange to me since I bought the updated version of the exact same shoe, but she is the expert, so I went with that. I ran in one pair of my new shoes for a couple of weeks and my feet were aching and my feet were flopping around, and it became obvious that the shoe was too big. Luckily, they took back the unused pair with no problem, but I was told that if I wanted to exchange the other pair, then I would need to see the owner because those shoes could not be resold. I am a busy person and I can't drop in all of the time hoping to find the owner, so I decided to suck it up and use the bigger shoes on my short runs and with my thicker socks. It just stinks that I spent $100 on a pair of shoes that is too big. Overall, this is a great place. I had a questionable experience with one fitting, but they did their best to make it right. This is my all time favorite running shop around the Philadelphia area. The salespeople are not pushy, the selection is great, and their knowledge is vast. I tried on 7-8 different running shoes to find the right fit and Shannon the salesperson was nothing but nice and accommodating. They even have replacement laces in multiple colors, which some stores don't carry. I mean, if you buy shoes with purple laces and you have to replace them, you want purple not bright white. Right? On Monday's they have group runs and they participate in multiple runs through the city through the course of the year. I didn't even mention that they have a newsletter! I love a newsletter! I thought this place was a great little find until I went to return some sneakers. I buy the same sneaker all the time and this was no different I just requested the brand/model and purchased the shoes without trying them on or looking at them. They then sat in my car in the box because, honestly I forgot and left them in my trunk. I ended up finding a slightly older model online that was cheaper so I figured no big deal I'll go and return the others. They were not pleased I was returning them. They accused me of wearing them outside (as I noted they never left the box). They also gave me a lecture about how the shoes I was returning were superior than the ones I purchased online. This place reminds you of what a small business is supposed to be about: excellent customer service, a clear passion for the industry they're in and staff that have significant real world experience with the products they're selling. Contrast that with my wife and I, who walked in there with our 3 and 6 year olds, all of us knowing nothing about these products besides that we've become believers in the value of visiting running stores for our shoes since walking into this same store a year ago and you would think we would feel out of place around these hardcore runners. But these folks are so patient and willing to answer every question, while suggesting things you've never thought of. All I can say is Ken and his staff really care about their customers! I had foot surgery last year and went in for a new pair of sneakers, after getting them home they were very irritating on one of my scars. I took them back and Diane fitted me with another pair of sneakers. She told me that if they didn't work out to bring them back and they would keep helping me until I found the perfect pair. After wearing them a few times to work my foot really started to hurt again. Feeling embarrassed to return them again I did return to the store with them yesterday. Ken was so understanding and made me feel so comfortable about making another change. I have a new pair of sneakers which will hopefully work out this time.
