I gave these people a bag full of clothes and I noticed before they were done that one of my dresses were hung up. They had not yet paid me. I tried telling them that it was my dress and they had a fresh tag on it and said it was purchased in July of last year. Platos closet does not put dates on their tags, you can look it up and see for yourself even in the store, nor have I in the 4 years that I've been going there every 3 weeks, have seen that dress in the dress section. It was the same size same color same everything, that was my dress and they took it to sell without paying me. The one male owner tried to gaslight me into thinking I was basically crazy. When I went through the bag of stuff they gave back to me, the dress was indeed not there. I was furious but decided to leave it be. read more

Took stuff to Plato's closet to sell some of my old stuff that I no longer wear. I was the only one in line so check in was quick. I was told that it would be 15-20Min to go through everything. I got a text that it was ready about an hour later. When I was given my bags back, I was told that my clothing was outdated and they don't take formal wear. My entire bag was women's athletic wear and some men's shorts/shirts. When I asked for clarification on the "formal wear", I was told he had no idea and he didn't go through my bags. I honestly think it was a shift change and the last guy didn't feel like going through my stuff. Very disappointing experience and would not recommend bringing items here to sell. read more

As far as consignments go, the prices are about on par with Buffalo Exchange. The staff did greet me and I don't have any complaints about them. I just don't know if the pieces fit my style. I have been shopping at Plato's closet for years and recently had my worst experience at this location. I tried on a skirt in the fitting room and the price tag was marked as a ZARA item for $18. It was actually from old navy not Zara. I went up to the woman working at the front and addressed the issue because it was definitely priced way too high to be reselling an old navy item. She the told me "everyone marks their items differently". Stop false advertising! Next time you go to this Plato's closet be sure to lookout for this. read more

Wow! Really surprised by the low reviews this place has, glad for once I didnt read them beforehand because I probably wouldnt have had a great experience today! So first, let me say, I am a former "Buffalo Exchanger" so I totally understand the whole selling clothes to a store like Platos Closet. You really have to understand who they sell to and not just think they will buy your stuff at the value that you value your stuff. Go in the store, look around, see what's on clearance, she what is highest priced, take note of brands behind the register. If you have that stuff bring it in, they will likely buy. I called first to see if I needed an appointment or not and the person over the phone was extremely helpful. He told me the hours each, how they cut off buying an hour before closing, which days I could buy, the cut off times too for each so I knew the latest I could bring it in. They bought NONE of my stuff today lol! BUT I will say when I dropped it off, the guy who helped me was really nice, explained the buying process, the brands and the time period of the clothing. I had some good brands but they were def more dated than a year or so and they didnt take them. I understood. I looked around while I waited, and the buy didnt take long, I actually found some really good deals on some stuff while there. I ended up buying and not selling at all. SMH. While I was shopping the same guy who helped me initially took that time to train employees on how to deal with customers. It was fun to watch him walk in and out of the store as different customers with different scenarios and challenge the girls behind the desk to know how to explain the buy and give good customer service. The girls got better each time. One thing I like he said was that they should use the check in system themselves to get an idea of what the customer experiences and how they have to enter the info. I just thought it was cool he was taking the time to train the team better and the way he was doing it was positive. It also showed he valued the customer experience. Also, Clothes Mentor recommended that I stop by here because although they did take some of my clothes, the rest of the stuff I had they didn't. This place is a mess! They buy used clothes and resell them, which we think is a good idea but please don't sell dirty shoes! We were so insulted that no one took the time to clean them up before placing them on the shelves for sale! In addition to that, they had clothes all over the floor, the place was so disorganized and the girls working there did not take pride in their work! We have a lot of complaints! The sunglasses were broken, missing one lens and they were still out for sale. There were stains on the sweatshirts and other items. We were shocked that they were selling dirty shoes and shoes to our families and friends! We won't go back until they clean this place up and start taking care of their customers! Shoes and clothes need to be washed and cleaned prior to resell, and we have no problem speaking with management about this situation! My experience all together was terrible. When I first walked in I was automatically Given attitude. I find that none of the employees care to help they're customers. They're to busy gossiping and talking amongst themselves, no help at all. If you want to go to a place and be judged or given attitude this is the place to come. This store only has cloths for teens and tweens, no adult clothes. Size 10 is an XL. They sell only current trends, no work clothes or closet staples. They sell mostly poorly made brands like Primark, H&M, old Navy. But do not sell/buy Anthropology, Banana Republic, Burberry, J Jill. I took 50 items, they bought none and the next day I took them To Green Street and they took 20, and Buffalo exchange took 12. Everyone working there was 20 years or maybe younger, which makes sense bc that is who they are selling clothes to. About 5 or 6 people were working but it still took 1 and a half hours until they went through what I brought. They should broaden their audience and have a 'womens' section with clothes that won't be out of style tomorrow. read more

This was my first time visiting Plato's to try to sell my items. I had a yard sale on Saturday 8/27/2022 and thought let me drop off clothing, accessories and shoes I did not sale. A lot of it was new with tags but I had a lot of high end bags, which totaled to 6 bins. I came to pick up the items at 8:30 which was 30 minutes before closing, a nice guy name Matt helped me carry one of the larger bins out and he was amazing. Mind you I'm 9 months pregnant, but that's besides the point. The girl Shianne (not sure if I'm spelling her name right) who went through the items mentioned to me to try Clothes Mentor and it's their sister store, which I did the next day since they were closed at 8:30 PM. I never took the bins out of my car because I knew I wanted to drop it off at CM on Sunday. I noticed they checked in 5 bins and assumed Plato's kept my bin with the stuff they decided to buy and threw my purses in one of other bins. It wasn't until I went to pick up my bins from CM, I noticed I didn't see any of my purses, totes etc. it was Tory Burch, Michael Kors and such which the ticket stated 5 bins only. I went back to CM and the assistant manager said they never had a purse bin and checked me in since she carried my bins in. Their back shelves were pretty empty so I believed her and didn't see a bin of my purses. I called Plato's and the manager named Kelly stated they don't have a bin with purses. She stated she looked at everything behind the counter and it's not in the back. I thought you know what, let me go there. I went there and here comes the manager reassuring me she doesn't see it and didn't work on Sat. Luckily, Matt again who is awesome, walked in for his shift through the front DOOR who helped me on Saturday. I asked him if he can help me since he helped me carry one of the bins. The manager again, kept saying I moved everything so you can see we don't have it. Then this is when it gets weird, Matt whispered something to the manager and she just had this shitty look on her face. Then Matt said what should we do, take down her information? I asked the manager, if she can call the girl Shianne to see if she knows where it is since she placed all of my bins in the front of the store for pick up. The manager said, she's coming in soon. I then asked nicely, can you just call her because I don't have time to come back and forth, then she paused and go let me get her she's in the back. When she went to the back, I asked Matt to tell me what happened and to tell me the truth. At this point I've wasted two hours going back and forth trying to deal with it. He was honest and said after I left on Saturday night, Shianne stated I forgot my bin. I told Matt I don't appreciate her manager giving me the run around. Shianne comes out and finds my bin because they threw other customer's clothes on top of my bin. So wait, didn't the manager say she went through everything? But they knew I forgot a bin then why didn't tell call me on Sunday to pick it up? She also, said Shianne was coming in soon? When I confronted her, none of her responses made sense so perhaps, they need to find a new manager. Customer service and urgency is not her strong skill. She was getting more annoyed than anything. The manager had no empathy, lack of trying her best to look for my bin, shady for telling me the girl was coming in when she was in the back! All of a sudden you have a secret entrance in the back? I would never return to this location and even the company. It was my first experience and will be my last. Again, Shianne didn't apologize, the manager gave me a back handed type of apology, but Matt was honest and truly an Angel. Surely, enough I took that bin to Clothes Mentor and they bought a lot of my purses! The girls there were so sweet and you should go there instead. read more

I was confused because I know they claim to only buy items that are in-season but it looks like most things on the shelves are gently used stripper shoes, tattered Aeropostale, and old Hollister jeggings. I've sold a couple of items to this location before, and while I wasn't over the moon about the money I was offered, I was satisfied-ish. Tonight, I brought a HUGE box of clothes, all in great condition, all quite "trendy" and most very recognizable brands...and they took not. One. Single. Thing. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I can live with that, though. I can always try to sell on Facebook yardsale groups. But one thing I do find inexcusable (and just a quick scan of other reviews tells me I'm not alone) is the customer service. The girls (they are all girls) working are just...not friendly. They remind me of the girls who wouldn't give me the time of day in high school. They probably ARE in high school, and here I am, 25 years old, AN ADULT, and I feel mildly intimidated by them. Not to mention I could hear them giggling as they're going through the clothes I brought. I could be paranoid but it was like being openly laughed at in public. And the prices? Not that great. I can get brand new clothes on the clearance rack for what they're asking for used yoga pants. I recently gathered over 5 dozen articles of clothing from brands like Free People, Lululemon, Brandy Melville, Urban Outfitters, Zara, and more and brought them to Plato's Closet Broomall to hopefully sell most, if not all. I came back an hour later to find that they had chosen 15 things out of my 60+, and left me with all of the Lululemon, Free People, and brands they denoted as "what we buy". I am very frustrated as they did not explain any of their choices and everything I brought in was expensive and in great condition (most clothes even had the tags on!). Slightly used and brand new Junior clothes sold here. Very cheap and affordable. I have a bunch of new, brand name clothing and the store only took a few things. I felt like my clothes are in a much better condition than some of the things sold. I even brought in the same bag of clothes that did not sell the first time and was able to sell a few more things. It all depends who is checking the clothes you are selling. It is somewhat biased and depends on the person who is looking at your clothes. The staff was very nice and helpful. Although they are very nice, the workers there openly complaining about working at Plato's closet while customers are browsing through the racks right in front of them. I don't mind if they complain because I understand the pain of working in retail but I don't think it's unprofessional to complain in front of buying customers. The staff is aggressively unfriendly, if not flat out rude. It's repellant and weird. I'm polite to everyone. It's not me. They have some cute things, the prices are just ok, but not great. My teen has gotten two things here which were unique. I've never tried to sell. The staff vibe makes me not want to go in. They really hire a certain type. Overall I think this is an ok thrift store. The one thing that stood out to me was that it smelled really good upon walking inside the store. Not sure if this was a result of some of the other reviews posted about the smell. I sold clothes and briefly looked around the store. I definitely think other thrift stores offer more money clothes, especially ones with price tags on them, but this store is convenient in that they sort through your stuff pretty quickly and tell you how much they are offering. If I had more time I would have took my stuff to another thrift store, but since I was already there I sold the pieces I brought inside. I also briefly looked around the store and most of the items were in very decent shape which I appreciated, and they had a wide variety of items and a nice amount of accessories. Fast and streamlined buying process, they're usually done with my buy in 20-30 minutes, even when I bring in a large number of items. Great selection in store, prices are fair. Payouts aren't great but that's the trade off for them pricing things competitively. The service at this platos closet is horrible. I tried to drop off 2 bags of clothes which they said would be a 4 hour wait on December 29. TWO employees said i could come back the next day. I came the next day to find it was closed until January 2. Flash forward to the 2nd, they could not sell my things because their wifi was down. Today (Jan. 3) they called me threatening that if I didn't show up today to pick up my items, they would throw my clothes out. So finally, on the 3rd, they graced me with the ability to come get my measly $28 in cash, claiming most of my things were "too old." They were mid-range designer items, like Free People, which I bought new last season... they act like they only have the newest items in stock but they're trying to sell 2011 Aeropostale jeans like those are new. Horrible store, not even worth the trip. You're better off donating clothes to Purple Heart or goodwill. I'd give a 0 rating if I could. read more

Hey all, Ronald back again. Still havent caught a fucking break. Just when i secured a job at cvs i forgot to show up the first day. I told them personal reasons. They didnt by it. So now im back on the unemployment train. Got the winnebago back, much needed. Funds have gotten low again so i found my way to a platos closet. I figured id sell some of my clothes. But to my imagine the place has some nice clothes as well. The joints packed. So i drop my trash bag of clothes off at the desk. The cashier was pretty mean. Told me 45 fucking minutes. Thats just poor service. But fuck it i guess ill wait. I start to browse the clothing they have for sale. What fucking highway robbery. I find some things that can get me through winter. Some south pole jeans, a puffer coat, and nice wool hat. I get back in line. Its taking fucking forever so i throw on my ipod nano to pass the time. The bitch in front of me stinks. I get to the front and they hand me my bag. She said these items we couldnt take. I said youre fucking kidding right. She hands me 2 fucking bucks and says have a nice day. They took one pair of pants. This place is way to picky and needs to reevaluate their business plans. Cant expect to make a fucking profit on a wine taste and beer budget. Anyway, im headed south. I would love to know how these girls decide what they take and what they don't. Girls, do some research and study all the high end brands out there. The world is full of premium denim you have never heard of. It actually was a blessing in disguise that you turned down my barely worn $235 jeans because I ended up at a real consignment shop that was thrilled to take them, amongst several other items. I wouldn't even give 1 star. I have gone here several times over the past few months with multiple bags of clothes. Every time I am offered nothing. And every time I am baffled. Most of the clothing I bring still has tags and is unworn, in season brand names. Each time the associate's reason for choosing nothing is quickly rambled off to me, half the time just jibberish. Yet I walk around the store absolutely disgusted at condition of most of the clothes, torn and stained - sometimes unwearable. After witnessing several other customers bring in clothing I feel this location is incredibly subjective. I have only seen 18-20 year old boys behind the counter who offer poor customer service and seem to focus their attention solely on what radio station to put on. Yet the store is relying on these boys to decide what women's clothing is trendy and worth anything?! I have not been to another Platos Closet yet but I am anxious to see if it's this location with poor management and poorly trained associates or a company wide issue. Unlike some of the past reviews, I found the people that worked here to be very nice. However, the wait was a bit long (40 minutes) but in their defense, there wAs quite a few people selling and they looked busy. They only took two items out of some pretty cool clothes. In fact, when I was browsing through some of the clothes, I kept thinking to myself that my stuff was just as nice or nicer than the clothes out there. Oh well, at the end of the day, I got $50 bucks and it was more than I had when I walked in there and I didn't have to deal with ebay or any of the other consignment stores. I had the worst customer service experience at this location. I was told my wait time for the buyer to sort my items would be 30 minutes which turned into 2 hours. I was told I had to stay in the store... No one checked in with me to explain the longer wait time. When I checked on the status of my items after an hour I was told it would be 10 more minutes... Which turned into another hour. THEN they didn't purchase any of my items. I totally understand that they don't have to buy any of my items, but I would have preferred to have been given an honest wait time and not told to wait in the store. read more

First of all, I wanted to say that I normally LOVE resale of all kinds. I go to Goodwill, Salvation Army, and another Plato's Closet. But this store really tested me. It was a mess- clothes all over the floor, tangled up in racks, customers had left "rejects" on displays, etc. I understand that it is hard to merchandise a second hand store but ....actual thrift stores are neater! The young ladies working there were chatting behind the register and didn't say hello to a single person coming through the door. I liked the girl who let me in the fitting room, and the girl who checked me out. They were both nice , (even though they were not frantically cleaning, which I would have been.). But the manager was pretty rude when I tried to use coupons that I had not realized had expired. I know franchise wide that Plato's bucks do not expire, but apparently they do at this specific location, where my boyfriend had gotten me a gift card (which I used for some epic Urban & Free People buys at Plato's in Paoli).
