Just picked up my very beautiful mother of the groom dress. I have a mixed review of this boutique…read more The particular sales person (Mirella) who worked with me was really lovely, as was the seamstress Christine . It seemed clear to me however that the owner of the boutique, who had initially been extremely friendly over the phone, was not particularly interested in my business. Although she had originally told me on the phone when I made an appointment that she would be happy to help me select a dress, when I arrived she seemed cold and disinterested and handed me off to another salesperson . She then approached a second customer who seemed lovely - and was a size 0 for sure. I have heard that this is the reputation of the boutique, mostly catering to the size 0 and size 2 set. I feel very happy with my beautiful (expensive) dress . Again when I returned to pick it up today after it was fitted, the owner was fairly perfunctory with me. She didn't ask if I was happy with the dress that I was going to be wearing to my son's wedding. When one has a special event coming up and goes to a lovely boutique like this to pick something special out, one wants to feel like a special customer.

For the love of all the bargains in the world, how did I not hear of this place before?…read more This is a nondescript storefront on Passyunk Ave - 1421 Passyunk to be exact. How nondescript? Well, there's no sign. The metal shutters were down over the windows. Those who are not 'in on the secret' would have no idea it's there. But the door was OPEN and was that ever a good thing. They carry a large selection of women's clothes, casual to dressy, velour to furs (yes, real fur as well as faux), sizes S to 3X, with some jewelry and handbags tossed in for good measure. Many, many name brands, all NWT - I picked up some Calvin Klein, Jones New York, and Ann Taylor pieces - all marked on the original tags north of $100, the most I spent on any one piece was $29. I know what you're thinking...at prices like these, they've got to be hot, right? Nope. It's a legitimate business, been there for years according to my South Philly Aunt. They even take credit cards. This shops owners deal in remainder lots of designer clothing. These are the items not sold by major stores during their season run, consolidated and sold in groups at very low prices. As they're remainders, the stock changes daily, so if you see something, buy it. It does not go on sale, this IS the sale. It is by no means fancy - we're talking racks of clothes, little heat, and a try-on room in the back that reminds me of my days shopping at Lohemann's. It is so so so worth the no-frills. Oh, shoot. I just let the secret out, didn't i?

Donna took one look at my face and said, "I have the perfect dress for you." I'm between 12-14 and am working through some insecurities, so when she said that, I said "yeah, right." Donna told me I deserved to feel delicious in my dress, so I tried it on. My God. I looked and felt like a mermaid Goddess. The dress is a beautiful mermaid/trumpet style gown that hugged my curves in all the right places (I'll update with pictures soon!). It was affordable and very well-made. Normally, I would've walked right by it. Thank God I listened to Donna's advice. She is honest, smart, so so stylish, and she sees and celebrates the beauty of everyone who walks into her boutique. I felt like Cinderella and Donna was the fairy godmother (the Brandy/Whitney Houston version with the sassy and fabulous Godmother!). I could go on about our wonderful, h uplifting conversation, but I'll end my review with this: Stop in and say hi. See what's there. I guarantee you will leave feeling "delicious!"

My purpose on this day was to find a replacement for the black tank Tom loves to wear; it's been worn so much, the one side is literally hanging on by threads. Since I found out it came from Old Navy, I decided to surprise him with a new one when I go back to Reading to see him tomorrow. I found that the replacement tank I sought was a mere $5, and the employee was more than happy to point out where they were and helped me find the size I was looking for. They turned out not to have it, so I bought the next size up since the medium wasn't much bigger than the small. They do get a star off for register lines though. They had two registers open but the lines had more than 8 people with full bags in each. The cashier that rung me out did apologize for the wait though. So if cheap, no frills, and functional is your thing, definitely check out Old Navy!

HOWEVER, major turn off: sales girls following you around ! I am just like Molly M., I can stay in a store for a long time but not this one because they are just hawking you. I once was trying on something in the fitting room and I wanted to come out and show my boyfriend but when I first peeked my head out, there were 2 sales girls also waiting outside staring at my door! too awkward for me, so i bought it without showing him.
