This place suited my needs, which was shopping with a very brief window on my lunch break. I can only speak to one other consignment for kids that I've been to, but the prices weren't bad at all. They were pretty comparable to the other store. Some of the designer items were understandably priced higher. The others were fine by me, especially with the sale price tacked on. I bought at least 5 or 6 items for around $13. As to the staff, I thought they were pleasant. Twice they inquired if I was looking for anything specific and they directed me to where I needed to be. They also told me about their fill-a-bag sale coming up (yes, I'll definitely be back, because I love a fill-a-bag thrift sale). I even spied some items at the counter I may come back for for myself. Overall, it was a great experience. You would be surprised how high new clothes for toddlers can run, so I only shop secondhand. In the long run, even saving a little goes a long way! Also, Narbeth is so cute! Stopped at a young entrepreneur's lemonade stand on the way back to my car.

But every time I have gone in, and twice now when I have come in to consign, I have checked the website in advance, gone in, and been told I was wrong to bring in what I have brought. Which is frustrating because I went through the trouble of bringing in things that the website says is being accepted, but I am treated like a know nothing when I walk in the door. My sense of the place is that the owner means well but is disorganized. The website is clearly out of date, and she is defensive when you explain that you were just following her published info. I want to give them another shot, but I have never been treated this way at Greene street consignment or Nesting House. I'm more inclined to support businesses that have their stuff together, and my sense is that this place ain't it.

I haven't been here in years, but since I was in the area, I figured 'Hey, why not?". The moment I entered the door, the older lady working the counter gave me a dirty look, including a once-over like she was better than me or something. Not cool. But, brushing it off, I decided I still wanted to visit their infamous "Dollar Room". I found a cute pair of white cutoff shorts with a dark blue nautical anchor pattern on them for one dollar! Of course, when I went up to the counter with the shorts, the lady tried to make nice with me by discussing what a great find they were, but I just smiled, paid, and left. The jewelry in the other room was so-so, and the prices were normal for main line thrift stores. (Too high for my taste though!) I didn't even look upstairs so I don't know what else they had. Maybe someone else will brave the beast at the front desk and check out the stuff upstairs. I just didn't have the patience to play nice with a snob,

I really wanted to like this place! I'm a frequent thrifter, and I love when the proceeds benefit a…read moregood cause. But here were some of the issues I encountered: 1. Quality of the clothes (dirty/stained/major pilling or wear). This usually doesn't bother me at thrift stores since obviously the clothes are preowned, but I encountered SO MANY dirty, stained, pilling, super worn-out clothes. One white button-down from the Gap had huge, brownish armpit stains! Gross! The shoes were pretty dirty, too. And this ties in to the next issue-- 2. Pricing (too high considering the quality!) Clothes were obviously priced according to their brands rather than their condition. This makes sense...to a point. I get it. But selling a fleece jacket that is completely misshapen, faded, pilling, at the end of its usable life for $15 just because it is North Face seems wrong somehow. Most of the quality-brand clothes I saw (J. Crew, Anne Taylor, etc.) had such pilling and wear that the prices just didn't seem justified. 3. Rude staff. I don't have too much to say about this because I don't want to call anyone out--I get that it's a volunteer operation--but, seriously. The lady working there was just plain rude. 4. Counterfeit/fake items. I saw several fake handbags for sale. Their printed price tag for one of these actually said "Burberry handbag--fake." What??????? The real designer bags were locked up in a glass display case while several fakes were knowingly placed around the store. Selling counterfeit handbags is illegal. It's also tacky considering the emphasis on high-end brands. All in all too many cons for me. If they lowered their prices, were more discriminating with their stock, and worked on customer service that would make a big difference. If you decide to visit, make sure you're feeling patient and ready to hunt really hard for a good deal. And bring hand sanitizer! :)
