This place is tucked in the pearl district of San Antonio and I love the set up of the restaurant. My husband had the fish sandwich, my mom had the kale salad and I had the spicy Thai steak salad. We also started out with the Brussels sprout appetizer. The Brussels sprouts were way over done. Tasted very burnt. I'm all for a crispy Brussels appetizer and these were way over cooked. The sauce was good on the side, helped attempt to save it. My mom had the kale salad, that didn't have many other ingredients. It came out missing the chicken and the server swore it was in there and never fixed it for her. My salad was interesting, the menu said the steak would be the spicy part and it was very flavorless. The salad itself had good flavor but over all was just kind of blah. My husband enjoyed his fish sandwich. He ate every last bite! He said it was seasoned to perfection and very delicious. The best part of the meal from start to finish was the house made coconut cake! So delicious and perfectly executed. One of the best I've ever had. Food was good, portions large, great atmosphere, but our server had the personality of a dead tree stump, never came to check on us after runners dropped off food until we were almost finished, or he would have known that they never brought out my salad. Having seen this place and their strawberry cake all over Instagram lately, I finally got a chance to try Down on Grayson for date night last night. It was fairly busy, wait time for two was 45 minutes which is typical on a Friday night, but the bar is full service and we found seats there right away. To drink, their frozen Moscow Mule, which was delicious but a little too ginger-y for my personal tastes. We also ordered the double dip appetizer -- guacamole was basic, cheese side was oddly texturized and I was not a fan. The drink and app being a little average, I personally was a little apprehensive for their entree... However, the Thai steak salad and fish tacos were phenomenal. Thai salad was my favorite, although it could have done with fewer nuts. And of course, for dessert, the strawberry cake, which was a HUGE six-layers of deliciousness. Service was quick at the bar, although our water glasses ran dry a few times. I think I had over-hyped this place in my head a bit, but overall not bad. I'd try it again, but be sure to have dinner out on their patio -- that seems to be where all the ambience is. read more

My husband and I took my parents to San Antonino gf or a few days and stumbled upon this place by accident. We decided to have dinner here and were very impressed. Fire roasted chicken was supper tender, Crispy chicken Sandwich was absolutely delicious husband had it grilled and dad had the burger which is now one of my favorites. My friends and I checked this place out for lunch last Thursday, and we loved it! Even tho they'd only been open for two weeks they seems to have everything on point. I ordered the French dip. The bread was perfect, crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. The meat was outstanding, as were the fries. At first I thought the prices were a little steep for lunch, but once I got the sandwich I felt like it was worth every penny. My friend is on a gluten free diet and ordered the fish tacos. She loved them, so if you're a fan of fish tacos or have to order gluten free they have a great option. The service was also perfect so I recommend this place to everyone. Yesssss. I'm actually so surprised at how good this place is. People rave about it but I always worry about how the hype can turn down the expectation. However, the service was great and the food was fresh. I had the fish plate, my friend had a burger and said it was delicious.. and the Parmesan fries were also amazing. The drinks for brunch are refreshing and not too sweet. The ambience is really nice as well. They're dog friendly and have a large outdoor seating. I recommend trying it at least once. read more

This cool lil haunt has been open for less than 2 weeks so the "stickers" are still on the windows (brand new). It will take them awhile to put it all together but I really enjoyed my lunch there. The crispy brussels are SILLY good!!! I eat all over the world and this is the first time I have ever seen them or tasted them. The sliders were enough to feed 3 people and there was enough cheese on them for 3 people. Given that I am from California, we tend to not eat large portions like this but the burger meat was really good and the buns were good. I don't know how a restaurant can survive with portion sizes this big for CHEAP! Regardless, this place is going to be a gem in the Pearl District. read more

Not impressed. The Fish tacos where soggy and overfilled with slaw which made it impossible for me to eat it like a taco, had to use knife and fork instead. I can't believe this place has four stars. The wait was forever, we finally got sat down they sat us a party of five at a table for four so we were squashed. I asked about an allergy menu which they said they have none, and they can't guarantee what is in their food. I settled on telling the waitress my allergy, she seemed very accommodating. We waited over an hour for our food. I ordered it the JK club and it came out cold and tasteless. It was basically deli meat on top of a cheap no-name bread, with a almost frozen tomato slice, and a cold egg. This place seems cool. It has a nice patio, and I like the way the bar is setup to where you can sit at the bar but outside at the same time. I saw they had a few decent cocktails on the menu, and figured they had a grip on how to make some classics so I opted out of their watermelon daiquiri which is on the menu and asked for a classic daiquiri with Flor de Caña 12. When I got my drink it was their watermelon daiquiri with the rum I ordered. I sent it back and said it was okay, that I'd get a beer and the bartender asked me how to make a classic daiquiri so I told her and it was still made improperly. No big deal. I drank it anyway. We ordered the steak skewers medium rare, but they came out medium. The fish tacos were so delicious! My mom had the chicken sandwich which was also pretty good and very big! Everything looks like it's plated much better than it actually is on their Instagram. To be fair about all of this it was a very busy night for them, and it was still during their first week of opening. May or may not go back. read more

What a new hot spot! Great location with tons of parking. Somehow, being right beside the freeway, with parking right underneath adds to the atmosphere of this big corner location shared with its sister location, St. Josephine Steak House. Open air with a very inviting patio and outside bar adds to the festive atmosphere. The casual modern interior with lots of bar seating is so, well, so cool. About as cool as their actually sexy restrooms. The menu is a little limited during this soft opening, and not the cheapest place in town. But, what they do have is big portions and very good. We had the French Dip sandwich that was about the best I've ever had. I tried to find something to complain about, but that's difficult. I did (hopefully) retrain our friendly waiter to NOT use the expression, "What do WE want today," but, say something like, "Hey, what do YOU guys want today." This place definitely has a hipster feel to it. It seems like it is always so lit here but I have to hand it to them. Their food is amazing! So flavorable, great service, and not to noisy considering the large amount of people in the place. If you're not about a large crowd, no worries they have an outdoorsy patio kind of feel outside that is just as nice too. A bit pricey but legit you are getting what you pay for. Well priced menu and perfect atmosphere for a casual, yet trendy lunch date or girls night out. They have an indoor outdoor bar and patio area. I had the Thai Steak Salad cooked at medium. It was very tasty, with tiny bits of sweet mango and a hint of fish sauce and fresh Thai basil after every bite. I knocked off a star because the wait for food was just as long as the wait to get a table (about an hour). I guess that means the food is cooked to order. First time here. Everything was delicious. We had the grilled Brussels sprouts, avocado toast, the grilled chicken sandwich (same as crispy but grilled), and Anticuchos. All were amazing. Well the avocado toast wasn't amazing. I mean it's avocado toast, but it was good. The Anticuchos was cooked perfectly. The house made chips was a nice surprise. Hubby had the spicy margarita and he thought it was just ok but don't take his word...he's not really a margarita guy, so don't know why he went with that. We only had onion rings because he thinks of himself as an onion ring connoisseur. We didn't expect a full plate of extremely thin onion rings. They were fine for the first few but after that they become a bit salty and greasy. If they were just a little thicker cut they would be perfect. The first time I visited this place was actually their first day open to the public. At least that's what my waiter told me. It was a lunch date. We arrived around 5pm, and there was a few tables taken nothing too crazy. Their decorations were modern and the ambience was just right. We ordered the anticuchos as an appetizer. The cilantro ranch dip went perfectly well with the beef kabobs. Then we decided to split the French dip sandwich between us two. The dish arrived and it was definitely a let down from the appetizer. Still good but not up to par. All in all a great experience, great service. Would definitely come back for drinks and appetizers. read more

One could say that Down on Grayson is a jack of all trades, as it has something for absolutely everyone. I normally would have ordered the fried grouper sandwich, but considering how much BBQ I had eaten the previous day while driving around Texas, I decided the Thai steak salad was a sounder proposition. But the menu spans from steaks to soups in addition to these options, and is modern and well-organized, if slightly pricey. I found the salad refreshing with enough Thai flavor to be satisfying, despite just having been to a Thai restaurant two days ago, and the steak to be pretty tender, but there wasn't very much of it, and considering that it was $1 less than an entrée I was considering, it is a little bit above my price point. However, the boutique interior and chic location certainly help justify the slightly upmarket price, and the service is also quite prompt, attentive and caring. I normally do not eat at this type of restaurant, but I will not say I was disappointed here, as Down on Grayson has a good mixture of luxury, décor, creativity and unpretentiousness that sells quite well and earns the recommendation of many locals I spoke to. read more

Went there yesterday during their first couple of weeks open. The menus at atmosphere looked great. My buddy and I both had burgers which were the bomb! The onion rings were also amazing. They still have some polishing up to do on points of service. The hostesses were great. The server forgot a thing or two and rarely checked back. I sat there with an empty drink while other servers as well as the floor manager walked by... Had to go to the bar myself to ask for a refill. Wait staffs do so much better when they work as a team and constantly check basics: drink levels, clear empty plates, look for guests waiting to ask something. This staff was clearly only concerned with cleaning their own sections so they could get out of there. I think this place is very promising and I look forward to trying other menu items. read more
