Started with the avocado toast which was delicious, also ordered some beef nachos which were decent, the house salad was really good and ordered the New York strip n macaroni which hit the spot. My gf got the fish tacos that she said were ok. For drinks I got a hard ice tea I believe and it's dangerously good cuz you could barely taste the alcohol. Overrated. Food is good. But you can get the same thing for a lower price elsewhere. Also, there is nothing you cannot get at a number of other restaurants across the city. My biggest issue is the parking. They now charge and it's all over the phone and if you don't the notice a sign it will cost you $50 ($4 parking fee and the $40+ in fees.) Find somewhere else! Valet is that expensive and the lot doesn't smell of urine and other fluids. read more

Joey took outstanding care of us - even as members of our party moved from table to table! We shred roasted brussel sprouts, aparmesean fries, onion rings and avacado toast - each one was delightful. I had the Fire Roasted Chicken and highly recomend it, the side salad with champagne dressing and creamy four cheese mac and cheese that came with the entree. Everything about today's visit to Down on Grayson was excellent. We were seated inside with no wait in a beautiful open concept dining room that was open to the outdoor dining space. Our server, Julian was on top of things from the moment we were seated. Make no mistake, you want to be seated in his section. He'll greatly enhance your dining experience. I had a lot of questions about menu items because I want new culinary experiences everywhere I go. He answered every question honestly and was so friendly. He recommended pretty much everything we got and he was SPOT ON. We ordered the smoked turkey sandwich, the sliders, crispy brussels, and 2 double shots of crown. When I say excellent, I mean it. The Brussels were the highlight of the meal and I highly recommend them. My husband and I were beyond pleased! The service was great and the food was excellent. All ten people in my party loved their meal. I had a simple Caesar salad and it had a great mix of greens, parmesan and dressing. I loved the little parmesan crisp they provided. It added som fun texture and flavor. The menu is varied from steaks to burgers to salads. Pricing is from $15-35 for meals. There's no reservations here, but there's plenty of outdoor and indoor seating! Come early if you have a large party because they only seat if more than half your party is here. Came here for a late lunch on Saturday and it was great! There is dedicated parking under the highway right next to it. They will validate for up to 2 hours. There is great indoor and outdoor seating. We chose inside since it's so hot out right now. The food portions are huge! We got the double dip and the guacamole was delicious. We had to ask for extra chips since there was plenty of dip. We also ordered the French dip, chicken sandwich and panini. We all really enjoyed our entree and were stuffed. We each got a different side, the fries were the best in my opinion and plentiful. The kids slider meal was very big as well. Larger than typical slider and a ton of fries. We ordered a side of Mac and cheese very cheesy and also a good portion. The cake was the biggest slice of cake ever. We got the strawberry cake, after seeing the price of $17 it makes sense why it's so big. It oddly had a spicy after taste though. But it was moist. Probably my least favorite part of the meal. They season and deep fry them, so they're crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I actually have always hated Brussel sprouts, but my friend encouraged me to eat them and I've been hooked ever since. They make me feel like I'm being healthy, but they're soooo delish! Ha! The wedge salad has homemade blue cheese dressing, which I love. It has chunks of blue cheese, fresh tomatoes, generous amounts of bacon and sliced radishes, which you don't find very often. It ties in really well! The fried onion rings came stacked on a plate - I was blown away by the portion - you could easily share with a large group. I was so excited to finally try this restaurant! It was the perfect opportunity to see some friends and have some great food!! I forgot what my drink was called but it was extremely similar to an espresso martini and my man ordered a spicy margarita. We loved both. Our server was very attentive and great with recommendations or dad jokes. They had non-alcoholic versions of their drinks which helped my pregnant friend enjoy the night as well. I have eaten in Down by Grayson more times than I can count. I really enjoy their atmosphere as well as their food. It is, of course, in the perfect location of the Pearl, so it is a win win when meeting friends or as a get together spot. I ordered Turkey Sandwich, which contains smoked turkey, stacked high on toasted sourdough bread with lettuce, tomato, avocado & garlic aioli. We also ordered the Double Dip with house-made guacamole & jalapeño pimento cheese as a shared appetizer. Both were fairly good, although I felt the sandwich was a bit pricier for a turkey on bread sandwich. We sat outside which was excellent given the perfect weather. This is a place with a lot of room allowing for bigger groups, and, now that the Pearl charges for parking in certain spots, I really appreciate their free parking. This was a HUGE disappointment. We came because we were given a gift card. Evidently they don't take reservations, so we ended up with an hour and a half wait on a WEDNESDAY. It was my birthday, however, so we made do. In their favor, the building is quite pretty, parking was not hard, and their outside space was really lovely. We passed the wait time fairly pleasantly outdoors with some pretty good drinks. Still, for a Wednesday... As for the food, I didn't care for the Caesar salad. I got the top sirloin, and he the skirt steak. I found the sear on mine to be simply too hard and crusty, and it made for a poor experience eating. His steak tasted good and was well cooked, but we were again mutually disappointed in the chimichurri- the taste was fairly good, but the texture was simply off. The herbs were chopped in such a way that they were absolutely the perfect size to get stuck in your teeth. I've actually considered using the word "unpleasant" 3-4 times during this review and, with the exception of the drinks, I'm afraid that generally describes my experience here. Okay, so here's the last part, which I have debated over and over writing. Please note that there is NO PROOF this is true, but merely reflective of my personal experience: I believe I got food poisoning there. I am not a medical professional and I can't be sure, but Down on Grayson was all I'd eaten that day that could have reasonably done it. I suspect my Caesar salad, but to be honest I don't care. Having visited Down on Grayson several times I have always found myself feeling underwhemled when all is said and done. There is plenty of parking to be found in the area so we've never had an issue getting to Down on Grayson. They do have a beautiful outdoor space, which we've sat at as well as ample indoor seating, which we've also sat at. Indoor is fine but outdoor is where ya wanna be....weather permitting. Service has always been acceptable. Nothing stand-out or to praise but also nothing terrible or warranting any sort of negative attention. I guess, for me, where Down on Grayson falls short is the food. The onion rings are good but greasy and a little goes a long way with those. The Crispy Brussels are fine and the salads I've tried, acceptable. The "El Moderno" Nachos claim to be an "authentic version of this south of the border favorite" but if that's auténtico then gimmie the cheap, knock-off version any day. Meh. At. Best. Now look-obviously, I am in the minority here and maybe where they shine is their meat-based menu offerings that this vegetarian doesn't eat, so take my opinion with a grain of salt if you're more on the carnivore end of the spectrum. For me, this isn't a place I suggest nor is it a place I must take people. It's mostly a really pretty patio to grab a drink and then head elsewhere for dinner. I've passed Down on Grayson many times while at the Pearl and was finally able to dine here for a late lunch/early dinner. Covered reserved parking (for this restaurant only) is available just a few steps away from the entrance. Since it was an off hour (3:30pm), there was no wait for a table. We chose to sit inside, but there is seating outdoors as well. They are also dog-friendly (outdoor seating only). I started off with a Ranch Water, which has dulce vida blanco tequila, fresh lime juice, and topo chico. The Topo Chico was a bit flat, but the drink aesthetics was on point. Not really worth the $12 price tag in my opinion, but I had to try it since I've never officially tried ranch water before. The Shishito Peppers ($12) appetizer was definitely a great surprise. The portion size of the peppers was way bigger than I expected, and the peppers themselves were cooked very nicely with a slightly blistered skin. The accompanying sriracha mayo balanced the heat of the peppers. For the main, I got Fish Tacos ($16). They were one of the best fish tacos I've ever had! The large filets of fish were perfectly cooked and juicy, and the spiciness of the seasoning paired well with the fixin's (i.e. cole slaw, avocado, tomato, red onion, salsa, lime juice, cilantro) on top. It's a must-try item! Service was also great from beginning to end. Our waitress was prompt and very friendly but didn't overdo it with checking up on us. Even the hostess seated us with a smile, which many restaurant hosts/hostesses fail to do. Definitely a great place to grab delicious food and drinks! Came for dinner on a Sunday evening with friends. We walked in around 7:45 PM and had a party of 5 and had to wait about 45-50 minutes for a table. Once we were seated, it took a while for food to come out. Crispy Brussels: really good! Super crispy and comes with a yummy sauce. Great savory app for sharing. Lavender lemonade: pretty solid cocktail. It tasted more like lemonade than lavender but it's sweet and refreshing. Chicken and kale salad: heavy on the kale. The chicken, avocado, and cashews are chopped up and mixed in and the kale is also chopped and marinated in the dressing so it's not tough to chew. The dressing is light, which I appreciate. The chicken pieces are small but kind of tough and dry. It's a pretty big salad and very filling. Everyone agreed their food was pretty average and nothing to rave about, plus it's kind of pricey as expected of the location. The restaurant itself has a nice vibe with a cool bar and TVs. This is one of the better restaurants in the pearl. The patio is perfect for a night out with friends, the staff is consistently friendly and helpful, and the food is always fresh and served hot. Every time I've come been here, I've tried something new. Their steak is excellent, their French dip sandwich is the best I've ever had in San Antonio, their fish and chips is undefeated, and their starters are all hits! The only dish I've been disappointed in is the Ruben sandwich. The one I tried was too dry and almost jerky like. The flavor was there so I know it can be good, I just assume I got the odd ball sandwich of that night and it's not a common thing. I would recommend this place to anyone regardless! In town for business and walked to the Pearl brewery along the river walk...Grayson is set in a nice area and it's a really nice walk if you're inclined. The atmosphere at Grayson is nice and has a trendy feel. I ordered the crispy fish and a spicy margarita. I will say the title of the crispy fish dish doesn't do it justice. It was an amazing pan fried snapper that had a very unique flavor. I didn't really enjoy the spicy margarita, and would recommend trying a different cocktail The outdoor seating area was really neat with plenty of seating and fire pits to sit by.
