After the Towne Lounge closed down, I needed a new bar. I have been here quite often and there are many great things about this place but there are a few things I highly dislike. Last winter, the sewage problem from Duffy's? was a major issue. Made the bar smell like crap soaking in hot dog water. It was awful. Granted, I know this wasn't their fault and downstairs locations in Chico do not usually smell that great due to the ground water rising. Second, I feel the beers on tap could be colder. I don't believe they are below 40 degrees. I love to drink PBR and they have it on tap but for some reason, it simply tastes awful, so I only get it in a can. The service is usually very good and the staff is always very friendly. This place could use some renovation with the restrooms and seating areas. This bar has a lot of potential and I will continue to come here. read more

Met a friend there that I hadn't seen since we were 16yrs old. Easy to find, lots of seating and the nice thing about this place is they also serve healthy food. Unlike a lot of bar/pool hall locations. I had a great summer salad with pear tomatoes. Ppl are friendly. I am sure it can get crazy once school is in, great place to hang out play a game. Also, I good music, lots of oldies, no techno. Yay! Great hang out with friends. Tv for game. Cheap drinks. read more

Fun place to stop by and shoot some pool. I tend to stop by after I'm tired of other bars. I've only ever come in here with a group. People mostly seem to stick to their own, in here. One complaint, when they have live music they tend to turn up the amps WAY TOO LOUD. It's a small space, I don't want hearing damage just so I can play pool. read more

This bar is great and casual if you want to get some beers and play with friends. Not exactly a trendy place, but its one of the best bars. Their food is amazing, especially their fry menu (how do they make their fries so good??). Saw a guy piss his pants in here, but I guess that's part of the charm. read more

I really wanna like this bar. Decent selection, great pool tables and dart boards. Cool location downstairs. Great kitchen staff making good drunk munchies. But I get completely ignored by wait staff EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I come into this place. Doesn't seem to matter where I wait, whether at the bar or waiting by the pool balls, I get to watch them serve people who came after me and chop it up with regulars. I'm not going to scream and wave my arms to try and get a beer, it's your job to notice someone sitting at the bar. If this was one time I could overlook it. But after 6 years here in Chico this place has gone from my favorite downtown bar to the one I avoid unless someone I know is there (and has managed to actually flag down some service). Wandered down for the first time in months last night, the men's bathroom urinal was apparently clogged and overflowing into a nice smelly pool on the floor. The stall toilet had thus been thoroughly hosed down in its place... It was dripping. Shrugged it off and walked to the bar. Stared down the main dude who always ignores me (Austin or something, tall guy dark hair), arm on the counter in the international symbol for 'get me a @#%ing beer please'. He looked me in the eye, walked over to another spot and started wiping something for no reason. Maybe it's me lol, I don't remember making any sworn enemies here, but after about 10 min, I do what I've done the last couple times I decided to give Dlow another shot and walked out having not been able to give them my money, shaking my head. I've never gone out of my way to give any place one star but y'all deserve it, the pool tables just aren't worth having to beg for service. I'll be heading to Oasis from here on out for my dive bar/pool experience, at least they know how to pour a friggin beer within 10 minutes. read more

Awesome place! Except for drama from some patrons that believe they are cooler then everyone because they are the billiards champions or something. Great music! Awesome staff and owners! Always a great time and great food! Totally recommend this place if anyone doesn't want to be bored at a bar. Went Wed. night before Thanksgiving 11pm. Not that busy, lots of open tables. Kitchen was closed. Took almost 15 minutes for the bartender to take our drink orders & get pool balls. We ordered the "Hot Toddy" on special & were told they weren't serving it yet. Huh? So I asked for a Lemon Drop instead (basic drink 3 ingredients). She said they were out of lemonade. Then proceeded to get an attitude & ARGUE with me on how it's made! Loudly! Not sure if it had been a bad night or what. All I know is I didn't deserve to be spoken to in that manner & sure not going to pay someone to treat me like an idiot. Won't be returning. read more

Terrible service. The bartender decided on her own accord and without any advisement, that a friend of our group was too intoxicated to serve. The subsequent advice was to "go play some pool and try to get a drink later." When asked what the parameters of her assessment were and/or how long we should wait before attempting to order another drink, we were told "I don't need to answer your questions." This treatment was unwarranted, unsubstantiated, and unprofessional. Not only am I a Veteran, but I am also a medic who is just simply trying to comply with rules to the best of my abilities, and with no explanation and/or a refusal to offer an explanation, I am unable to rationalize, justify, or understand the actions of both the waitress and the "bouncer." Furthermore, the tab for myself, a friend, and the price for the pool table totaled $11.44. It is unreasonable to offer no explanation to someone who is coherent and articulate, and who also has a tab with such a small amount, no explanation for being refused service/drinks. I, nor anyone from my party of 12, will ever return to this location because of this treatment and refusal to answer simple questions. I completely understand the need to cut someone off who is too intoxicated however, you are expected to offer explanations for your actions. Refusal to do so hints of personal motives and/or discrimination. read more

The great tradegy of Downlo isn't anything to do with Downlo at all, its that I found it so late in my time in chico. Once it was found, however, it was THE place for my friends and I to watch any and all sporting events. We played darts and shot pool in a spacious area while enjoying a large, reasonably priced selection of drinks. The location is rad too, being kinda underground. read more

My favorite spot in Chico. As a pool fanatic, of course I love the 10 regulation size tables Down Lo has, and with an in-house pro (Jacqueline Karol) who is also a national champion, who could ask for more?! Also free work shops, tournaments and leagues for all levels of players. Not to mention friendly staff ( I mean every one of them); delicious food, decadent and creative desserts (trust me), a variety of TV's for viewing...a variety of live music shows and surprise events like fashion shows, karaoke and stand up. Okay, I go there for the pool, but there's more happening down there at Down Lo than most may realize. And it's kid and family friendly. Plus if you want to beat the heat and get cool, go Down Lo. read more

This place is great for playing a few rounds of billiards with some good friends in the daytime. The fried food satisfies and there are decent drink specials. However if you come here looking for a classy bar or cocktail lounge, this is not the place. It is a pool hall. You don't hang out at the bar, you might do one of their awesome kami's there, but generally you take a pitcher of beer back by your pool table. I'm surprised to find the Downlo with such strong reviews. Its not a bad place to hang out, but its a dive bar at its heart and is hardly ever crowded. Its a great place to play pool though! read more
