I had a very helpful experience with a staff member who went out of her way to get me everything I needed and was so helpful one day, I went in another time and the ladies were so passive aggressive and rude to me. I felt they were taking behind my back and rushing me into a purchase, making me feel guilty for taking my time with the very large investment decision. It was so unprofessional the lady was grinning at me while rudely passively aggressively suggesting for me to hurry up and purchase. Like, what is the rush lady? Your working here all day leave me thef alone. Gosh, there was just one lady who's attitude was so toxic and it was seeping into the other ladies demenors. I'm sure if she was fired everyone would be better off. Unfortunately this is the closest Tack shop to my barn. I've had to go in there about for five times in the past year or so. The staff has either followed me around trying to hold my hand while I shop ( I can pick out a pair of gloves on my own- thanks) or they have stood behind the register with a sour look on their face and an air of bad attitude around them. They should probably get out from behind the register and clean up the store because it is messy and disorganized. All these things make it a very uncomfortable place to shop. If I could say anything positive - they have a pretty good glove selection and half chaps too. Their boots and tack selection leave a lot to be desired. It is too bad because this could be a really great store - either the staff just doesn't care or they just don't get it. read more

I only just started riding again. I'm not competing. I don't need anything fancy. I'm not dropping $300 on a helmet or a pair of boots. However, in three different visits I've had different people wait on me and I got great service. i needed warm riding pants -- and even though the pickings were slim found the perfect pair. I needed a helmet - it took at least half an hour to try on and test fit. The woman was determined that the helmet I bought was comfortable for me and would still absolutely protect me in a fall. She really knew those helmets and which brands fit which head shapes. Then I needed riding pants for the spring - again one stop and quick help and I have a comfortable pair of schooling pants. read more

I cannot even rate my experience accurately due to the fact that I can't even bring myself to give them one star! An online order of a pair of $30.00 Breeches has turned into $102.00 in charges on my card. I initially placed the order "in the morning" with expedited shipping. Cost...$42.90. No issues for me with this. I did try to use the "Welcome" discount offered to me but "unfortunately" my order did not qualify for the savings. Disappointing but just an "eye roll" inconvenience. I went through the usual steps in the typical online order process, including providing my card information and waiting for the "confirmed" signal to indicate my process was complete. I was good to go. I checked my account the next morning to ensure it went through and the charge was correct. All good. I checked my email at some point during the day as usual and I received a "final notice to complete your order" email from them. I was a bit confused as I couldn't think of anything that would cause an incomplete order. Especially considering they had already posted the amount to my account. So I called the customer service number and the rep I spoke with could not find any information, to give me an answer to the reason for the email. She stated that she would cancel that order and re-enter it under a different order number. At this point I realized that I was going to be at least 2 days behind in the shipping time so with her help, we decided 2 day shipping was my best bet. It was a Friday and having them Tuesday would work out perfect. And, per the rep, it was only $18.95. I could handle the additional $9.95. She confirmed a few things with me and I confirmed the original order was cancelled and we hung up. I checked my account again 2 days later noticed my bill jumped from $42.90 to $58.85. I also noticed that the original amount of $42.90 was still posted to my account. So I called again, went through everything that happened and the apologetic rep put me on hold to get her supervisor. The supervisor started off quite pleasant, until I began questioning her. Why did my bill increase so much if I only added another $9.95 in shipping? Well I guess the rep forgot to tell me that it is "in addition" to the standard shipping charge of $9 that they charge you for any order. For real?? Why is the original charge still on my account? After checking, she said "SHE cancelled it" and it should go away in "a couple of business days". So the first rep never cancelled it. We got the "envelope" with the Breeches in them on time...$29.90 in shipping later. It is now exactly 7 days after the very first order and that charge still hangs on my account. I call again and get another "pleasant" supervisor who tells me that it is now my problem. They cancelled the order and there is nothing else they can do. Despite it being their issue from the very beginning with the email of "unknown reason" to complete a completed order, I am now forced to spend my day tomorrow looking for help from my bank. I asked what happens if they tell me they cannot do anything about it...her response was, in a nutshell....your problem, not ours. In all of my years of taking advantage of the convenient method of online shopping, this is the first negative review I have ever written about a company I have placed an online order with. I see many others have had a terrible experience as well...so I guess it really is "YOUR PROBLEM" Dover Saddlery. Plenty of competitors to choose from. read more

Worst customer service I have ever dealt with. Will not do any refunds for mail order at all. They will only issue a gift card even though the purchase was made with a Visa card. I ordered draw reins online and ordered the more expensive ones thinking the quality would be premium. The first pair that arrived promptly(that was good) the snap on one end did not work at all(that was bad) so I sent them back and a new set came . Ahh!!! Same problem except after working on the snap with machine oil and working it over and over I just got both snaps to just barely work. Dover Saddlery needs quality control. I am not going to order if the product arrives and does not work well. And when I called customer service they said to send them back and I would receive another set. But I have no confidence that a 3rd set would be better than the first 2. I tried to write a review on their web site but they would not publish it. I noticed all their reviews were more than 7 years old. read more

I just returned home from a trip to Dover Saddlery and I was so pleased. I am just beginning to ride again after a five or so year hiatus after college. I was a little nervous and I had lots of questions about the items that I needed to purchase to fill in with what I already had. The staff were so helpful and gave me real advice on the products I knew I was interested in from online searches and past ownership. The girl that helped us was very knowledgeable and helped us make the right choices. On the outside, the store looks like it will be very small and based on the other reviews I thought it would be tiny! I did not really think that this was the case at all. They have a large selection and really utilize all of their space as most stores do in the area. I will definitely return when I need items in the future! read more

I had to return a pair of gloves in exchange for a larger size. Mailed return package on Jan 18, it arrived at Dover on Jan 22. Today is Feb 18, have not received the exchange gloves. I called to find out where they were. The rep. said that they processed the exchange yesterday and the gloves would be mailed today. Pretty slow turnaround if you ask me. I have ordered from Dover before and while I like their products, I have never been impressed by their shipping - either the speed or the cost. read more

The Hunt Valley store has horrible employees that don't really care about their customers. I wrote a letter to Mr. Day, the CEO/PRES, about SEVERAL experiences with the employee of this store. My letter was forwarded to a gentleman in charge of the retail stores. The response was just a formality, but he said sorry and I will have a training program implemented in the store and visit there personally. This letter was sent back in September. Today November 23, 11, i went to the store and experience the same treatment when you are just ignored as a customer and let to help yourself. There were 4 employees in the store with boxes everywhere for stocking that you needed to weave in and out to walk around, and only 1 other customer in the store. When the one employee was done helping them, she went to talking on the phone and then stocking. NEVER ONCE were we asked for assistance. Let's top this off by saying that i called there at noon asking about sales on saddles. After being on hold for 5 mins, the clerk returned and said let me take you name and number and i will call you right back. I never did get a phone call back. When i was looking at the saddle someone putting something away did ask if i needed help but at this point i decided not to purchase. Actually i called a local tack store and had what I was going to buy at Dover I had them order it in for me, PLUS other items. I walked downstairs from the saddles put the item back on the rack i was going to purchase and walked out. I noticed while standing outside the entrance that the one employee was staring at me like i had stolen something. I will NEVER shop at Dover Saddlery again. SMARTPAK has just as good deals, and with no shipping if you order enough, and who doesn't spend at least $75.00 read more

i don't know what happened to dover saddlery. years ago they were great, i have to assume the company as a whole is not doing well because their policies and their personnel are terrible. they don't care if you have a good shopping experience. they care about money, making money, sucking the customer dry for money, money. really horrible policies. an on-line is worse than the store experience. you buy your items, you put them in your cart, you pay exorbitant shipping fees and then they bill you more. and they don't really care. in my case it was only $4. seems the manufacturer raised their prices overnight, so despite having a receipt for my purchases for $64.92, they charged my credit card $68.92. and the excuses (not a refund and no desire to honor their prices or their reciept) are amazing. i am being told the price went up from $18.99 to $26.99 at the manufacturer (i guess they can't add) and the nonsense they are putting me through over this is incredible. first, they will not allow me to cancel the order. i have called back 27 times,i get every excuse there is. i am told 'it is already packed', 'let us find out what happened'... and now i am being told they can not cancel it or confirm in writing that it has been canceled and 'they will pass it to the manager'. AND i am being told they will no remove me from their mailing list... seriously. for $4 dollars they have destroyed my confidence in dover saddlery and forever ruined their reputation. read more
