My $4 creme brûlée donut was about 3" in diameter. 3 1/2" at most. I selected this for the filled custard. So, guess what? It took a lot of bites to get to the tiny filled center. I almost gave up expecting one. But it was like crunchy sweetness on the outside! I also got a tres leche donut. That was good. Tasted like a sweet cake donut. Could not distinguish it being tres ledge. The hostess was super nice and really appreciated that. The place was empty but air condition cooled and appreciated that, too. However, I like my doughnuts to be somewhat substantial. I had a variation of a Boston Cream. It was delicious but small and expensive. I'd be open to getting my fix in here again, as they're yummy enough that I'm not sure that I could stay away. I'm currently on the quest for the best donuts in NYC, and this one did not live up to my expectations. I went here at around 9pm, but they still had a large selection of donuts and everything was fresh. However, I don't know if the donut selection varies from Brooklyn to Manhattan, because there was nothing interesting except for the creme brûlée. I of course tried that one because anything creme brûlée count me in! The donut was ok. I enjoyed it but did not love it. The glaze taste like burned sugar like it should, but it was not evenly distributed throughout the donut. The best part is with the creme. I wish it had more inside. Also, the coffee machines were closed when we went, which was a huge disappointment. The guy working there said the only thing available was ice coffee so I got that. It was over priced iced coffee that did not taste good! I would not recommend the coffee. Again, I don't know if I came on an off day where they didn't have most of the flavors but everything that was available, I was not wowed by it. Came to pick up some donuts before catching my train back to Queens on a Saturday afternoon. The lines weren't too long but there was still a bit of a wait for my doughnuts after I ordered and paid. I ordered the vanilla bean yeast donut, Brooklyn blackout cake donut, and the creme brûlée doughseed. My total for these three doughnuts was $11 which is a bit pricey considering the size of these desserts. The blackout cake donut was a bit too sweet for my liking but the vanilla bean and creme brûlée were amazing! 18 year old me would've loved living next door to Doughnut Plant. Unfortunately, I no longer am able to house two doughnuts a day without any repercussions. So even though I live nearby, I try to limit myself from coming in every week, plus these prices are pretty high. My favorite is the creme brûlée, and the seasonal flavor, strawberry and cream. I've also tried the larger square jelly filled, matcha cake, and black and white cake; there were fine but nothing too noteworthy. We visited this establishment on National donut day, it wasn't a surprise that the line was out the door. We were pleasantly surprised when we found out that we were going to receive a free mini donut because we came in on practically a national holiday. We got variety of donuts including carrot cake, tres leches and myers lemon poppyseed. My personal favorite was the tres leches, the donut resembled an old fashion donut laced with a sweetened outer milky layer, absolutely delicious!! I thoroughly enjoyed it because it was not overly sweet, it would pair lovely with a plain latte. It was later in the afternoon so we decided to get a tumeric latte. I was blown away with the intense flavors that followed. There were notes of ginger and tumeric that melted into the oat milk used to make the latte. Amazing donuts! I got the Peach Crumble doughseed and had a bite of my friend's Green Tea Matcha doughnut. My doughseed was ultra soft with a delicious peachy filling, which tasted neither artificial nor cloyingly sweet. The green tea doughnut was equally soft and yummy. If you've never tried anything with matcha, try it! Don't let the words "green tea" scare you. It doesn't actually taste like a cup of tea. Alternatively, they have a beautiful display set up by the registers, where you can see the options... and there are a LOT of options. They perfected the art of doughnuts, so I doubt you can go wrong. I can't wait to return. I like it a LOT more than Dough and you can't even compare them to Dunkin Donuts. These are in a league of their own. Dough tries too hard to be edgy and unique; I find them to be too big and doughy with bizarre flavors. Personally, Doughnut Plant is the way to go. Whoever thought of stuffing PB+J or blackberry jam in a donut is a genius. This is one of the gourmet franchises thats hyping up donuts for a while now. I mostly get their yeast based donuts and every time they hit the spot. I usually get coffee from here too, not stellar but not too bad either. The donuts are a tad expensive for what they're worth. I had this $6 Valrhona Mocha or what ever its called and for the price it was about 10 oz very pedestrian for $6 bucks you can do a lot better than that. I'm a HUGE fan of donuts and have been a patron of Doughnut Plant for years, so it's only fitting that it would be my first review. I've been to the original Lower East Side and the quite pretty Chelsea location with all the donut pillows, but this is the one closest to me and my favorite. It has great amenities such as water, a clean bathroom, wifi, and cool seating if you just want to enjoy your donuts and relax for a while. My go-tos would have to be the Brooklyn Blackout, the Wild Blueberry (can you tell I much prefer cake donuts?), and the Matcha Green Tea (SO SO good, but only available on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays). I also recently tried and enjoyed the Coffee Cake donut after a second try, but it tastes best on its own and without coffee. Despite my love for Doughnut Plant, there's also a few donuts I'd pass on. While the Chocolate Chocolate donut is a great option for vegans, I remember it not to be very good and had an artificial chocolate flavor. I don't recommend the Red Velvet cake one either - it tastes nothing like you'd expect and the crumbles do nothing to help the supposed red velvet flavor. This still remains my favorite fancy donut place and I'll definitely branch out to the other offerings they have. read more

I stopped by for an impromptu takeout order between errands and realized I'd never actually stopped by Doughnut Plant's physical location. It's been adapted for picking up orders from a to-go window, so customers don't step inside. The current socially distant ordering system requires you to place your order online (even if you do a walk-up order) and stand outside while they prepare it. The staff were really nice and pointed out how their ordering system works, so I submitted my order and payment from my phone. It was pretty seamless. I ordered a vegan chocolate donut, and they also threw in a vegan strawberry donut because they're actual angels (thank you!). I grabbed my donuts from the takeout counter and enjoyed them at home. Both the chocolate and strawberry donuts were excellent. Overall great service and I'm happy Doughnut Plant is still kickin' during the pandemic. read more

10 minutes before close tonight, we visited our local Doughnut Plant (and we've been to a lot of locations). It's the night before Thanksgiving, and we were surprised they were open at all. A lot of retail employees are extra stressed around the holidays or just can't wait to be done with the day already, but we just had a level of service that qualified as luxury brand VIP. Rita was the name of the woman who helped us, though the other woman behind the counter was also friendly. Rita knows everything about every doughnut. I'm talking about product knowledge that would put the waitstaff at Daniel to shame. Thanks to Rita's suggestion, I tried the cranberry cake doughnut AND a gluten free mocha doughnut that I NEVER would have given a second thought to. I'm so glad I did! The cranberry is my new favorite of all of them, and it makes me trust that every seasonal flavor will be special, too. You can get either yeast or cake doughnuts but I prefer the yeast since they're not as dense. My favorite signature doughnuts are the creme brulee, coconut cream, and matcha. They also have doughflowers (rose shaped doughnuts) which are so pretty. They had strawberry, blood orange, and rose flavored doughflowers - blood orange is my favorite since it's sweet and tangy. The doughnuts are fresh, tasty, but a bit pricey. The size of the doughnut especially the yeast ones are quite large so I usually split it with someone else.
