At the time of payment of my smog I asked the worker if I had to do anything else and specifically asked if I had to go into dmv again. She informed me that I was done and they would send everything and all I had to do was wait for my stickers. Fast forward to today March 28, I still haven't received my stickers so I go into AAA (because I found out they do DMV services if your a member) and AAA tells me that my smogis Invalid because it's past 90 days and that I was supposed to go back into DMV to complete my registration after the smog was checked. So I call Discount Smog Check and luckily I talked to a very nice gentleman named Steve. He said since the worker gave me some misinformation that he would take care of me and do my smog again. I went to the DMV this afternoon to renew my tags. I found out I needed a smog check before they would hand over the sticker. I whipped out my trusty smart phone, loaded up yelp, and searched for the closest smog center near the Pleasanton DMV. That's how I found Discount Smog Check. I instantly noticed the $39.95 yelp special, then browsed the reviews to make sure that it was some bait and switch sales tactic. It took me 5 mins to drive there from the Pleasanton DMV and only waited 15 mins for the tech to complete the smog. $39.95 and in less than a half hour later, I was back at the DMV to redeem my 2011 sticker. If any Yelpers out there find themselves in a similar situation, don't worry you have time to get smogged without having to take another day off work. I went to get a smog check on a week day, mid-afternoon. I went there without an appointment and was serviced immediately. It took about 15 minutes and then I was out of there. The guy originally said that it would cost 90 dollars to give me a smog check and asked if I printed a coupon. I told him that I saw it cost 25 dollars, and he replied that it is a 25 dollar off coupon. He kindly granted me the 25 off even though I didn't print the coupon out and I paid 60 bucks. Bottom-line: quick and painless. But driving in and out of there is kind of nerve racking, since its a back-alley place with only 1 lane. read more

I've heard great things about these guys and I saw that they had pretty good Yelpage so I checked them out for you guessed it...a smog check. The advertised price in the Google search results was $25.95 but when you walk into their shop it was a different price. It seemed a little deceptive but the Yelp check in offer brought the price closer to the advertised rate on Google. At any rate, the guys were friendly and finished quickly. This place is a little hard to find. It's at the end of a auto repair row and the driveway and parking are small. I got there about 1 pm and there were 3 cars ahead of me. I asked how long was the wait and the test guy said 30 min. I filled out the paperwork and used the yelp check in special for $39.95 all inclusive. It took about 10 min per car. The guys were very efficient, no small talk, do the test, pay up and DONE. Perfect, just the kind of smog place every one is looking for. Highly recommend! no up charges no extras. This smog check center is tucked away behind "Quality Tune Up" on Dougherty Road. Its the last "engine bay" in the building and is painted in Red. This was a fast and painless experience for me. There was one person that was ahead of me and he literally got to my vehicle in about 5 minutes. The gentle man who did my smog check was very polite, friendly and personable. I found this location because I got a coupon in the mail advertising SMOG Checks $24.95! (+$8.25 certificate and $2.00 Electronic Notification) and got out of there for $$35 and some change. A review cannot do justice to how surreal my experience was here. It only took 20 minutes with a pass for the lowest price around and I still wouldn't go back here. The quick highlights are: 1) This place lies about not one, but two coupon policies it advertises. 2) The guy ignored customers in order to take what sounded like unimportant personal calls. 3) The guy almost caused my car to fail through his incompetence. First, their website is now disabled, but at the time it simply stated "If you find a lower priced coupon locally bring it in we guarantee to match it." I found a coupon for $33 from the place two doors down sharing the same parking lot and they refused to match the price on the basis that the other place was not a "test only" facility. Nothing on their website qualified their seemingly simple coupon promise. Next, I tried the $39.95 deal available through checking in on Yelp. I did it right in front of the guy on my mobile phone and he said it wasn't valid on the grounds that I didn't have a Yelp account. I tried to reason with that, but he said if I actually had a Yelp account the deal would look different on my phone. I was about to leave but he offered me a deal of $35 flat including certificate, so I stayed. Minutes later he tells me my car doesn't look like it's going to pass and asks if I've been maintaining it. My car is in like-new condition. I go out to see what the problem is. He's turned the air conditioning to the highest setting on Max AC. Obviously the engine is going to work harder than if the AC is off. I tell him to turn it off. He doesn't do it, so I reach over and do it myself. As he put it, the car "magically" improved and passed the test. Of course the printer was not working, but I only needed them to send it electronically to the DMV since this was a renewal. Lastly, when I first showed up, instead of being at the front desk, the guy is sitting on a couch in the back on the phone. He turned away from me. I assumed he was finishing a call, but it took about a minute before he finally turned back and addressed me. He was on the phone off-and-on for more than half my time here. All the calls seemed to be relaxed and personal instead of business. Update: I noticed that the owner wrote a response to my review that says "well last sir if you were so unhappy why did you bring back a second car??????" This is inaccurate - I did not and would never bring back a second car to this establishment. read more

The staff at Discount Smog Check Center were very honest and helpful, and agreed to perform my Smog Check for a fantastic price because I have a Yelp account and I agreed to post a review. I went to this Smog Check center without an appointment around 1:30PM. I went across the street for a good bowl of soup lunch at Delica's bakery, and by the time I returned to the Smog Check center about 30 minutes later, my car had passed the smog check and it was ready for pick up. Avoid these guys at all costs. I had been going here for a few years since they were close to where I live. I used them for all 4 cars I have. They seemed over priced even though I had a coupon. They were never very friendly, just a matter of fact. Today I went and it was busy and cars were all ocuppying the open parking spots. There was no where to park so I pulled to the side where I did indeed see "no parking, tow away" sign by the garbage can. I began to walk inside to see how long when one of the guys yell at me "don't park there" in a very strong tone as a warning. I asked if there was anywhere else to park and he reply was "I don't know, you can't park there". He could have told me to come back but instead he had to make sure he had authority on this. I went back into my car and began to look for other smog businesses. Only after a minute or two he once again YELLED "You can't park there", and reply kindly that I was getting ready to leave and he continued to YELL again "Move your car". I had done my Acura there a couple of years ago with a coupon and was charged $50. I found a new place called "1 San Ramon Smog" on 2210 San Ramon Valley Blvd in San Ramon. They opened around 6 months ago. Very friendly, greated when I arrived as the tech came out from doing another car to provide me paperwork to fill out while in my car. Total came out to $39. Call me crazy or silly, but I hate the hassle of smogging my vehicles. I can think of a lot of other things I'd rather be doing or spending money on, but like taxes, Big Brother says we've got to or else! Well, regardless of that, I'm usually very late on both my smog (and hence my vehicle registration) and my taxes. However, at least one of those might now change, because Discount Smog has made meeting the smog requirement quick and painless. The shop was a little difficult to find. It's at the back of a long, narrow driveway/parking lot adjacent to "Quality Tune Up" which is on the east side of Dougherty, south of Houston. Once there, service was super fast and easy.
