The doughnuts here run more on the sweet side, although I'm sure they're great paired with black coffee! This place is great for people who have allergies or sensitivities since all donuts are egg free, dairy free, and nut free. They also have gluten-free donuts. Very inclusive shop! I got the Poptart - Poptart inspired doughnut with strawberry filling, vanilla icing, and streusel crumble. The strawberry filling has chunks of berries inside. I love how the doughnut is a chunky-looking rectangle very reminiscent of a poptart! Special- Raspberry filled- covered with a generous amount of powdered sugar on top and filled perfectly. And then a coffee doughnut which has coffee-flavored icing. The icing is very sweet and the sugar overpowers the coffee flavor. I think this shop is great for people who want the standard yeast doughnuts but without any allergens. It's not trying to be a fancy or high end doughnut shop with complex ingredients. Really shows how great vegan doughnuts can be!
My absolute favorite raised donut, coffee establishment!! One thing I've always ended about California is there 24 hour vegan donut joints. It's nice to see dojo located in several locations in greater Seattle Capitol Hill in West Seattle will be one of them opened every day normal hours that go into the evening so if you're wanting donut for breakfast, doughnut for lunch or doughnut for dinner, they got you. Service is always incredibly friendly. There's barstool seating, fun vibrant colors inside a bathroom always clean & always inviting. They always have fun fresh new flavors for donuts and drink specials. I'm on their text messaging promos so I'm always informed about their deals and their closures for better or worse. Anyway, if you're in the area, West Seattle or Capitol Hill highly recommend at least trying one of their raised donuts!!
I finally made it into Dough Joy in Capitol Hill to use a Groupon I bought ages ago. Even though the promotional deal had expired, they honored the $20 face value toward my order, which was awesome. If you see that Groupon available, definitely snag it because it is a great deal! I brought my toddler along and we had the best time. The donuts are absolutely gorgeous and it was so fun letting him pick one out. He went straight for the rainbow pride donut and I grabbed a vanilla cold brew. Just a heads up for coffee lovers: they are a dairy-free shop, so I had oat milk in mine and it was great. The vibe inside is wonderful, but the highlight for my son might have been the bathroom. He was very impressed that the floor was bright pink! Everything was great and we will definitely be back.
LOVE! Stopped by when I saw a glittery rainbow donut and it was DELICIOUS. The glitter clings to everything though and is very difficult to remove after two rounds each of hand sanitizer and washing lol. Worth it and honestly who doesn't want free glitter lip gloss. My partner liked the French toast donut he had too. Highly recommend - we didn't even realize they were vegan until after the fact.
OK, I'm gonna be real honest here normally I'm not a big fan of fancy donut places. I like a nice Asian donut place like I grew up with in Southern California. I've never understood the appeal of 5 or 6 dollar donuts when oil boy those 1.50 donuts hit the spot just perfect. That said whenever I'm in a place I'm not familiar with. I do like to check Groupon and other coupon sites to give me a little bit of courage if you will. You know, sometimes you don't wanna bet a big ticket price and be disappointed. I have found some of my favorite spots this way and I will tell you these promotions do work because they retain customers if your product is good and if it's not you just laugh out onto some money but unfortunately that's the game. With that said, I think we might've found a new donut place for when we are in Seattle for our yearly trip This place has a bunch of wild donuts and some of them are pretty over the top while others are classics We got a half dozen for four of us and most all of us tapped out being full by the end of them, which says a lot. Their fritters were great and their raise were even better and I don't mess with no cake.donuts Everything we had was great, so just picked your flavor profile and love it, and I will say the enthusiasm from the staff how they went into depth and detail describing each donut that we asked about really made a big difference beautiful shop, beautiful people working there and a beautiful product
Stopped in for a quick pre-dinner bite and was delighted at the assortment of donuts still available at that point in the evening. We spoke with the donut-tender and asked for some of their recommendations--they suggested a few with some input about our preferences, and I was pleased to find that I absolutely loved the chocolate cookies and cream donut. Cute little shop, would definitely stop by again
We love Cute and Yummy doughnuts I have been here twice I got the everything doughnut Omg it's so rich and hits the savory sweet spot.
People at my office have a problem with maple bars. The problem is they are addicted and when anyone brings in donuts,it's 70% maple bars. So when we chose,we gor one maple and one peach. If possible, the peach was even better than the maple. It's all in the dogih, it's fluffy and chewy and perfect. Service, the donuts is top notch.
I thought i knew all the donut spots in town, but today I learned other wise. This place is ok the outskirts of caphill/first hill and should not be overlooked by donut lovers in the area. The interior screams dessert shop that has its ish together. When you walk in you can't help but notice all of the donuts to choose from. Not the largest selection in the area, but definitely not the smallest. The teller was so friendly and nice I feel lucky. I was able to have a quick chat about all of their donuts before I decided on the pop tart flavor. No It didn't exactly taste like a pop tart. Honestly it tasted like a typical sugary donut with strawberry gel filling. Lots of tasty filling so I cant complain.
Delicious donuts, and super friendly customer service. Inside is cute and spacious, with a clean bathroom. As for donuts, I prefer the fritters and cake donuts, but also really enjoyed the cinnamon sugar donut holes. My toddler ate almost the entire blueberry glaze donut. The only downside is there are only 6 bar seats available for indoor seating. Oh and parking is not fun (I recommend parking a few blocks away in the residential neighborhood) , unless you don't mind paying $5-6 for an hour in the lot right next to the store.
Dough Joy is a pretty good vegan donut shop. Donuts are ~$4 a pop. I'm still adjusting to Seattle pricing, given that I'm coming from the Midwest where you can still get good donuts for $1-2. I guess the pricing is partly due to the location, and partly due to being vegan. I won't go into each donut in detail, but just will say the following: The yeast/raised donuts are soft and fluffy, but still have good heft to them. The glazed donuts are closer to the mom-and-pop donut bakery sweetness level than to not-too-sweet. So yes, too sweet for me, almost cloyingly so, but also possibly not as sweet as the typical extremely sugar-laden donut. The donuts with a cake base (in this case the donut holes and old fashioned) are great, with a good crust on the outside and a crumbly yet moist interior. The powdered sugar & chocolate drizzle donut doesn't have the best construction; placing the drizzle on top of the sugar leads to it easily falling off. By the time I got home, all of the drizzle had disintegrated. Overall the donuts are quite heavy in weight and I was surprised at the heft when I lifted the bag. I don't normally eat vegan, but I will say that you won't miss the milk/eggs/lard in these donuts. Honestly, if I hadn't seen all the signs inside stating these are vegan, I probably wouldn't have noticed.
When you find out you have serious diet restrictions, there's going to be that one thing that you would risk a reaction for eating. Donuts were mine. Do I eat a lot of donuts? No. But they have always been that treat that happens on special days, when someone is willing to go out early and get a box to share. Realizing that all donuts have dairy, even the weird shelf stable ones at the grocery store was a big kick! On a short trip to Seattle, my husband and I decided to purchase the same three donuts (maple bar, Boston cream, and apple fritter) from the three donut shops we could find that sold dairy-free donuts. Dough Joy knocked them completely out of the water. One shop sold us donuts that were either raw inside or over-cooked. The other inexplicably seasoned everything with nutmeg. Why? I couldn't tell you. But their donuts tasted like stale grocery store donuts, we took a few bites and threw them out. Dough Joy sold us donuts that are just GOOD. Really good. The Boston cream had so much filling we had to hold it like a taco, and the frosting was delicious. The apple fritter was perfect with lots of crags and apple chunks. The maple bar was fantastic (although my husband wished the maple flavor was a LITTLE stronger.) But seriously. Except for Chuck's maple bars in Renton, because honestly no one can compete with their whipped frosting it's life changing, these are just exceptionally good donuts. Fingers crossed that someday they can open a shop on the Eastside because crossing the bridge for donuts is a bit ambitious even for us! But for these donuts.... I'd consider it. (We also appreciated that each donut got its own little waxed paper bag, so nothing mashed together in transit.)
Amazing donuts, exactly what I was looking for. Donuts are my preferred sweet treat, and I'm always on the lookout for a high quality premium donut when I travel. This place checks all the boxes. The strawberry jam in the poptart donut was sweet and tart and perfect. The mango tajin was awesome, a unique standout with a sour, salty, hint of spice on top of the sweet. The classic Bavarian creme was rich and chocolatey. Those were my picks, and I sampled the other three (apple fritter, biscoff, and French toast) and none disappointed. Highly recommend!
The absolute sweetest staff and their donut flavors are so fun and unique, not to mention how gorgeous they look! I got the coffee cake flavor with with cinnamon (might be misremembering the actual name) and it was incredibly tasty, especially considering the fact that it's plant/based but the flavors were not compromised at all. I'll definitely be back to try more flavors -- I'm super curious about the everything but the bagel donut read more
I started with Yelp just to review donuts and pastries... years ago and here I am again. I am not Vegan and love a very good traditional donut. But somehow they found a way to combine both very different things at Dough Joy. It is lovey to be able to bring donuts for a group that everyone can have. All of their products are vegan including coffee drinks. The person that helped me was lovely and took the time to explain each donut. Great Job ! P.S. the maple bar was 10/10 I love all of the great food options in Capitol Hill. read more
What a cute donut shop! Very intentional design and pretty interior. I loved how simple, but good quality the donuts were! I definitely recommend the Everything But The Bagel. An excellent savory option among the sweets. The staff were super friendly and they played a lot of 2000's throwbacks! Such a nice place we stumbled upon in Capitol Hill. read more
Pricey as with everything else about Washington, but so tasty. I ordered through Uber Eats and got them delivered to my hotel for my husband's birthday. Everything but the bagel donut is now my favorite and a must try for anyone who enjoys trying something different AND likes an everything bagel. Of course, the rest of our order was great as well read more

Holy moly these are amazing doughnuts! Their tested doughnuts are light, airy, and fluffy. You'd genuinely never know they're vegan! We got a pride and a fritter and both were delicious. They also always have good selections and fresh doughnuts. Super worth a visit!!! read more
Solid 4 star donut place! My last experience was lackluster but today made up for it. On my 3rd visit the apple fritter was oily, dense and dry as were the donut holes topping the drinks but today on my 4th visit everything was back to normal! The only bad thing is that they do sell out of the specials so I wasn't able to get the maple bacon bar today at 11am. The lavender donut was the star of the show. The churro one was oozing chocolate cream, in a good one. The Bavarian cream was underfilled. You had to eat 75% of the donut to get any cream. The apple fritter was soft with crisp edges. I'm not vegan but this is my favorite donut place. You would not be able to tell the difference between these vegan donuts and regular donuts. read more

Want to know what I love more than regular donuts? Vegan donuts and oat milk lattes! I've walked past the Dough Joy doors so many times but finally caught them during open hours. The store is spacious, with cute decorations and plants. The employee working behind the counter was kind enough to explain the special flavors of the day, and to recommend some of their faves. Thank you for being so patient and nice! I chose six donuts: Bavarian Cream (my personal all-time fave), lavender vanilla, pride (so sparkly and pretty!), cookies & cream, chocolate strawberry, and french toast. The Everything donut was calling my name, but I decided to wait until next time. So far, I've only tasted the lavender vanilla donut and the flavors are *chef's kiss*! The dough is light and fluffy and not overly sweet. I also ordered an oat latte, and I LOVE that they use oat milk as their staple milk option. Also, the coffee came with a donut hole on the straw :') read more

The fluffiest donut! Ordered the biscoff flavor and loved the sprinkles of salt throughout the maple-y frosting . Worth it for the size and flavor! read more
Have you tasted Dough Joy? If you have been living under a rock for the past year, you might have missed the news that there's a new vegan donut shop in town called Dough Joy! They are a Seattle-based startup that opened in May of last year that focuses on selling to the evergrowing plant-based crowd. Over the past year, they have grown exponentially and recently opened a third location in West Seattle (which I visited). Foods I tried: - Apple Pie (Seasonal) - Cinnamon Roll - Biscoff Vanilla - Cinnamon Twist My Review: Good morning foodies; it's finally starting to feel like fall! Since we were in the area, Natalie and I decided to come here for breakfast. We ended up ordering four new favors we hadn't tried, and like before, all were superb. My favorite flavor this time was the Cinnamon Roll, with the Biscoff Vanilla coming in second place. After gobbling the donuts, we washed our mouths with Dough Joy's seasonal vegan pumpkin spice latte. I didn't know till now that Starbucks pumpkin spice latte wasn't vegan and that this was Natalie's first time trying a pumpkin spice latte; how crazy is that?!?! read more

I had to wait until we got to the front of the (very long) line to disclose to my partner that we had been waiting for VEGAN donuts haha. I knew he wouldn't be happy, but good thing the line went pretty quickly, the workers were very nice, and the donuts were YUMMYyyy. He couldn't deny how good they were--fluffy, sweet, colorful. I really liked all four of the flavors we tried: mango con chile, french toast, dipped strawberry, and birthday cake. However, they gave me one wrong donut flavor so I went back in to get the correct one, and instead of just giving me the donut I had asked for, the owner actually reached into the box and removed the incorrect one and put it back on the display area! Definitely an eyebrow raiser as far as covid precautions considering they had nooo idea whether I had sneezed or coughed all over the donuts when I had originally opened the box in my car to check. Should've just called that donut a loss and let me keep it. But at almost $5 a piece, I guess every donut sale counts lol. read more
This is the first time I been to the store front. I have always gotten the donuts at their ballard food truck location. They are located where the Old School Frozen Custard used to be. The store is definitely bigger and you can see the variety of donuts being offered easier. They also have more selections of drinks. Not sure if it was an off day, but the vibe wasn't as comforting as it is at the truck location. Either way, the donuts are pretty good. We tried their special this time which includes a cinamon roll and a key lime pie donut. My husband love the cinnamon roll. It's soft and has a lot of flavors and not super duper sweet. It stayed soft throughout the day as well as we were nibbling on it throughout. I actually like the key lime a lot better but that's just personal preference. The outside is glazed with keylime flavor so you get that flavor pretty early on. But you also get a hint of sea salt which somehow makes it almost a sweet and savory sensation which i like a lot. The inside is filled with thick vanilla custard which gives another flavor profile to the donut. The texture is also pretty soft. read more

An awesome vegan donut place that I'd take friends to anytime. While donuts are not my favorite type of sweet treat, I always enjoy trying the new flavors at Dough Joy. I love their apple fritter and biscoff cookie donuts in particular! Some flavors, like the cookies and cream and chocolate w/ sprinkles, are a bit too sweet for my taste. The interior of the shop is cute and the staff is friendly. Prices are very reasonable too. Overall, I think this is a must-visit for sweet tooths in Cap Hill! read more

I stopped in for a donut and wow, decisions, decisions! They all looked wonderful. I picked the Vanilla Biscoff and was not disappointed. The donut was light and airy and tasted wonderful. This place is vegan so no dairy which is good as I'm allergic. The guy behind the counter was super cheerful and friendly. These donuts aren't cheap but they're definitely high quality. If you're going to eat a donut, why not go to Dough Joy and eat the best? read more

The atmosphere in this donut shop is really fun. We ordered 2 donuts and 2 drinks. The drinks were amazing and the donuts were really good too. We were visiting a friend and needed somewhere to stop on our way back to Portland for a pick me up. This was perfect! The service was also great. I can't remember the staff member's name but they were awesome. Would definitely go back again when we are in the area! read more

Wow a new favorite of household! We are obsessed with this place. The blueberry cake donut mimics all the great tastes and textures of my favorite plain cake donut from childhood but elevated. We got a half dozen variety and are so excited to try all the flavors. Their lattes come standard with oat milk!!! Gotta love an all vegan restaurant and the espresso is yummy! I'm picky about my lattes as a barista myself and this drink was delicious. 10/10 will return. Oh and the latte is garnished with a donut hole. It's truly a vegans sweet spot paradise. I met the owner & manager of this location while eating at a vegan Mexican restaurant and they were so friendly!! Coming into the shop today that friendliness carries over with the staff (shout out to the fantastic barista) and the manager was just as lovely as the first time we met. Truly a wonderful place. We will be regulars! read more

Unusually large, unusually fabulous, fluffy light yeasty donuts, and they're all vegan to boot! The friendly staff confirmed there's no dairy on the premises, so allergic folk can indulge worry-free. The Biscoff vanilla donut has nice spice flavors from the cookie topping. The cream-filled chocolate-frosted one was also delectable. They taste as good as they look. There was a selection of 6 gluten-free donuts kept separate from the gluten ones (didn't try them). There's coffee with vegan milks available. Seating is sparse, just a tall counter with a few barstools, but there's a bathroom. There's a parking lot next door (pay via app), and there's street parking at the front curb if you're lucky to get a spot (pay via app). read more

A vegan donut that's not a cake donut?! Dough joy has THE best vegan donuts in Seattle. Hands down. No contest. Fight me. Their regular flavors are always 10/10, but what is really awesome is their special flavors. They introduce creative new donuts all the time. Sometime they're a little weird for my taste, other times I say "Wow! This is the best donut I've ever had!" for, like, the 50th time. They also have a huge selection of drinks. I've never tried any, but I always hear how good they are. Would love to see a brick and mortar shop in West Seattle soon! read more
Donuts were really sweet and had a chewier bite to them. Fun flavors but not my jam personally. Nice that they are vegan and have fun flavors/toppings. We got the birthday cake (really sweet), French toast (slight cinnamon flavor) and the cookies n cream (just sort of chocolate-y). read more
