I just moved from outta state, so Doug Smith is my new local Subaru dealership. I got a Carfax email about an ignition coil recall, suggesting I take in my Impreza ASAP. I booked an appt. online thru the Subaru site, then came in a couple days later during the week. Since the recall had just happened, they did not have the parts yet, but they had already ordered a bunch in anticipation of people coming in. I made another appt. for the following week, and they let me know it would probably be about four hours of work. I dropped off my car this morning, and my car was done within two hours which was a pleasant surprise. The best aspect was that they offered me a Lyft both ways from my house as no one was able to give me a ride today, and it's somewhat of a far walk home. This was SO convenient as my old Subaru dealership only offered rides home, but not back to the dealership, so I had already planned on either staying four hours or walking home an hour. They also asked if I wanted a carwash, and they actually did it. My old dealership never seemed to do it despite it being a complimentary service every time you bring it in. Check-in/check-out was smooth and everyone I met was friendly and clear about what to expect. No complaints here! read more

She was really asking if they had done work on my vehicle & if I were a potential customer. Call around and ask, "What is the standard warranty?" Get it in writing. Customer service is top-notch, and I really appreciate the informative complimentary video they send showing their findings--it adds a lot of transparency. These guys were amazing. I got a "check engine" light on my 2021 Crosstrek and then had the car towed 185 miles from Torrey to Doug Smith Suburu in American Fork. Aparently the TCV (Thermal Control Valve) valve had failed. This is a complex repair, but they had me in by 1PM and out by 4PM. That's lightning fast service for this kind of repair. I didn't have to spend extra money on a hotel while waiting for the car to get fixed. They prioritized my car and got their fastest tech on it ASAP. The car drove perfectly after the repair (no issues) and we were able to complete our 2500 mile road trip without no further interruptions. Let me provide a few reasons why Doug Smith Subaru is likely the place for you, if you're looking to purchase or finance an all-wheel drive vehicle: -Service. I worked with Ben for probably a total of 8 hours in my three trips to the dealership. He is seriously what an auto salesman/customer service specialist ought to be. Ben answered all our questions with professionalism and courtesy. He went out of his way to work with his manager and upper management to secure the best prices possible for us when we were looking at both the Outback and the Forester. Most of all, I appreciate people like Ben who can meet customer expectations and facilitate discussion when it comes to pricing and frugality. His walkthrough for the vehicle after the sale was very clear, and he offered to help us out with any questions or issues we might have in the future. -Financing options. Traditional financing is available, but so are leasing options which can get you a really affordable monthly payment. With relatively good credit, your percentage rates for traditional financing can be substantially lower. -Upper management. Honestly I did not have a very good experience working with Rich (the head manager) on finalizing the paper work. We were very clear that we did not need extra services/exterior protection. A polite "I understand and hope you will reconsider some of these options down the road" would have been professional, courteous, and persuasive. But I did not appreciate the comment that "You don't intend to use this car for long?" as if we are going to trash our vehicle or maintain it poorly in the next few years. Also, he did not offer to explain any questions I had about the legalese of the finance documents when I had explicitly let him know that I needed to go through the fine print. Aug 2023 I took my car in for service again to look at the same issue. They even had a mechanic ride along to ensure we were all talking about the same thing. Unfortunately, my situation is just something specific with the car and Subaru doesn't give them many things they can do. Car should be fine and reliable. They didn't charge me again even though I am over 100,000 miles. I can't say more good things about them. They have earned my business and praise. I took my car in for the first time for some warranty work to replace the catalytic converter, a software update to help with spark knock and have them look at an issue with my window not rolling up. I was able to make a quick appointment, they did the work quick, washed the car and I didn't have to pay anything. Great updates and communication from the dealer as well. Really impressed read more

Well, I have to change my review. I am extremely disappointed in the service provided. After the first issue was fixed by replacing the control module (the car's remote start didn't work), I found additional issues. A high pitched whine (might be the turbo according to some who have listened to it, but unknown), the eye minder keeps telling me to watch the road even when I am dead looking at the car in front. I get that car companies are trying to become tech companies. And that is a challenge. And while most of the issues are tech issues, there should be SOME attempt to help. Nothing. The invoice basically said the equipment was in spec and that's it. No "hey lets do X to ensure you don't go mad being yelled at" or "hey, the lane centering tech can turn off under these conditions". Nothing. Just "hey, it all works, now begone". Amazon might not be perfect, but a leadership principle that they strive for is "Customer Obsession". There was NONE here. I bought a $40k Outback from this group, and while the SALES experience was much better than before (first car I bought from them, they screwed up the paint, then tried to tell me the paint WASN'T two toned), this was not a good experience. I get that some of my list could be user error, or something misconfigured, there was no attempt to sit down and figure out why things were what they were. But I also had videos of the noises and concerns, and they didn't care. Now they want me to come back in again a week later and sit down with a service manager. Cause I have so much time to keep coming back and forth? I really want to love my outback, but right now after a trip to San Diego, with all the annoyances, I hate this thing. I always wanted a Tesla. But my Legacy had ZERO issues after the paint situation was resolved. It worked flawlessly. Never had to take it in for repairs. And I always also wanted an Outback. But this is already fustrating. Not EVERYTHING is their fault. Some of it is Subaru. Their towing package I am willing to pay for is backordered. But EVERYTHING is backordered. The molding that is separating from the car is on backorder. The electronic component they had to order to fix the remote start is on backorder. Everything is apparently on backorder. But I still don't appreciate the somewhat "whatever" approach to my concerns. Are they telling me the Outback is supposed to drive me crazy with the "keep your eyes on the road" over and over, and the only option is to turn it off? Seriously? Why did I pay extra for all these features if the best option is to turn the stuff off? That's NOT a solution. But here is the issue. They are the only Subaru dealership in Utah County, and perhaps they know we have nowhere else to go unless we want to start driving back over the point of the mountain all the way to Sandy UT. It is unfortunate that they did not provide full disclosure on what was needed throughout the application process. Oddly, my daughter was the applicant and I would co-sign. Hands down the best dealer experience we've had. We have a Subaru dealer 5 minutes from our home in Sandy, but have had a few people we know buy from here. We called to make sure the car we saw on KSL was still there, and headed down. Our salesperson was Nelson, he is a super friendly person and I recommend him if your looking for a Subaru. Despite it being the end of the month, a Saturday, and Nelson being swamped. He made sure we had all of our questions answered, and I felt like we were his 1st priority. Funny enough we ended up not buying the car we were interested in. We bought a new model. I've never bought new before, and was not in the mindset to do so. But with the deal we got, and the 0% interest financing, it didn't make financial sense to pay more for a used vehicle. Once we made or decision, we were out of there in about 90 minutes. I know that sounds crazy, but I was blown away by the fast, and no-pressure process. If for some reason I need another Subaru in the future, I'll make the drive to buy here! read more

I went back and forth between all three dealerships, comparing all of the bizarre package combinations and options, before settling on the one I was interested in. Once I knew what I wanted, it was time to figure out which dealership had the best price. It was Doug Smith. Hands down. The first price I was given by them beat everywhere else. That includes Costco pricing, which if you look online is generally "the best". They also provide a bunch of oil changes and other basic maintenance, I think for the first two years. This is my second time at Doug Smith where the experience has been lacking. This has nothing to with the people; in fact, they have all been "pleasant" (nothing good or bad). The one critique I have of the people is that they seem to be merely going through the motions; there isn't any urgency to help. As for the experience, this is the second appointment I have booked online. I figured this would be the best way to ensure prompt service. Unfortunately, this was not the case. I got checked in around 11 and was told it would be finished by 2-2:30 pm. I went to In N Out for lunch and was gone for 35 minutes, but when I returned, my car had not moved. Not a problem because I assumed they had a plan. I went to the lobby and found a decent workspace that I was able to finish some work while I waited. About halfway through, I got a call suggesting we wait on the alignment. I was grateful for the heads up. But as 3pm rolled around, still had no word on the status of my car. As I approached the counter, they told me it was almost ready, but it would take more time to finish the paperwork. I had to press them on this issue because it had already gone longer than quoted and I had another appointment. At the end of my visit, they mentioned that it just busier than expected. I get it; things happen and it gets busy but what's the point of making an appointment at a specific time if the people with appointments don't get serviced during that window? I've always operated under the assumption that an appointment is a means of guaranteeing service at a specific time. All this to say, I really tried to give Doug Smith a second and third chance, but after this time, I'll most definitely be trying Nate Wade or Mark Miller for my Subaru Service needs. read more

I went with my sister to help her trade in her 2014 Subaru. We knew it was worth around $7500(based on KBB), then some how, Doug Smith Subaru came up with all of these problems that the car suddenly had, when 10 minutes before it didn't suffer from any of them. So they told us it was worth only $2500. After talking with them they wouldn't give up the idea of running our credit(which is more than good enough to buy) instead of purchasing with cash, which we had. So we asked how much it would be to "repair the issues", and they told us it would be at least a couple thousand dollars. Which is not worth it when we know that the car doesn't need the "repairs". So we took it to someone else and they told us that it didn't have any of the problems listed by Subaru. Be careful with Doug Smith Subaru, they want your money not your patronage. read more

Let's start back in July. Salesman told my wife and I that we could get a new Subaru with her trade-in. As her car is paid off. 3500. A salesman forgot to put in our order so we had to wait 6 months. This dealership made it sound like. Oh no! It's okay no problem. My wife finally came in because the car came in on the 15th of December. When she got there it went from 3500 to 8900. This dealership just wants to rip you off without Vaseline. Are you serious? I have gone in several times and talk to the sales manager with no problem all. We're going to take care of you all. We're going to do this. Oh we're going to do that. When I came down to it they just wanted to rape us. Get as much as they could and my wife told me how much they were charging her a month for a car. I told her to walk out you are not buying a car from the Gestapo. These people just want to take everything they can. They don't give a crap about you. They don't give a crap about no deals. They just want to take all your damn money and leave you hanging. I will never buy a car from this place. I will never walk into this place again. I will never ever talk to anyone who works here. Called to make an appointment for my 2013 Crosstrek to have the dreaded "multiple warning lights & transmission temp" all illuminated and the "cruise control" indicator is flashing. An opening was available the morning I called. Josh knew immediately that is was most likely a failed transmission solenoid requiring replacing all since if one has failed, likely another is ready to fail. Following a verifying diagnostic procedure, authorization was granted to replace solenoid pack and the transmission fluid. I appreciated to messaging feature from the service technician including a video of the diagnostic results and recommendations. Josh supervised the repair performed by the service technician. The authorized repairs were completed, my vehicle was washed and payment was easy using the mobile, online access. Doug Smith Subaru service was awesome. Everyone was professional and pleasant. I am from out of town and was overdue for my service. They had no problem getting me an appointment for my service to be done while I was in town. They had options for shuttles, rentals but the service I had I was able to wait comfortably in their waiting area while the work was performed. The staff is courteous and professional. I wish I could give this place less than one star. I recently bought a used car, not from Subaru, but from a private seller in Provo, Utah. Doug Smith Subaru had checked the vehicle a day prior to my purchasing of the car and said that it was good to go and only need a break fluid swap. I purchased car thinking I could trust this dealer. I took the car there the next day to get an oil change and it was like magic, the found that the transmission fluid needed to be changed. I told them to do it. My transmission started to grind so I took in a week later and all of the sudden there were major problems with my vehicle and they are now quoting me 5000$ to fix it. This place is absurd. On top of it all they wanted to change my engine air filter and cabin air filter which I just had changed by them two weeks ago. This is a pitiful dealership and service center and I hope that nobody ever makes the same mistake I did in trusting their worthless multipoint inspections. Update: they didn't tighten my oil plug all the way and it leaked a lot of oil. Luckily I noticed before my engine exploded. read more

Reminder that i fully trusted this this dealership. So when they took my car back for service i had forgotten my phone in the car and thought no big deal. However the next day when i checked my phone one of their employees had taken multiple photos of himself on my phone in my car!!! What? Are you kidding me? I will be having a nice discussion with the manager tomorrow and will be updating this review to let you know what happens. Update: i was contacted by the service manager before i even had a chance to call them. He deeply apologized and let me know of the corrective action that had taken place. I came here on two different occasions to buy a car. The first time the staff was extremely rude, so I wrote a letter to the manager about the experience. He called and apologized and said he would personally help me buy a car next time I came in. Well I came in again asking for him and he pushed me off on another sales guy! I had a great buying experience at Doug Smith. I was coming off a really baaaaad incident with Mark Miller, so it was really refreshing to deal with respectful and attentive people. Everyone from sales to service was helpful and friendly. I never felt pressured nor were there any attempts to take advantage of me at any point. Being an informed consumer certainly helped, and I think it was appreciated that I didn't come in blind, and knew what I wanted up front. Cody was very helpful throughout my purchase, which was pretty easy since I didn't finance. He took very good care of me and pretty much found exactly what I needed, despite it not being in their inventory. It was ready and waiting when he told me it would be, and everything was as it should have been. I have zero complaints. And, I feel like I got a good deal on my Outback. Not a single day of buyer's remorse. I'll have my Outback for a very long time. But when I'm in the market for the next addition to the garage, I'll definitely give Doug Smith a call. Pretty typical treatment. Even though you were in a week ago they have no idea who you are. They told me 5k miles for an oil change. Previous dealership told me 8 so not their fault but obviously annoying when I call a company under the Subaru logo and get different goddamn answers every time. Cost when calling over the phone $74.74. Coupon $69.99. Came out to $76. Please explain what the point of that coupon even was????????? Someone????? Anyone??????? $1 off is that what it comes out to? Brian just argued about it being different at each location and that the discount was applied. He was stern and not friendly which I'd prefer a friendly let down to a discount than stern. But. The guy that forgot who I was from last week was so effing nice to me over a recall and he did what I had asked about without charging. He's the reason for any stars at all and the reason I returned. They also gave me a reminder sticker and didn't screw with my trip counters. Finally they had some damn coffee. The ladies that answer the phones suck and anyone in a suit... awful but everyone else is just awesome. So thanks to the awesome few!!!! Would be nice if the lady sitting in service could be in the parts counter instead so she could at least be useful in possibly selling things to customers instead of a bell. I called about some general service questions regarding my new to me Subaru purchase--as the Mark Miller Midtown and Southtowne and Nate Wade folks couldn't answer those questions for me. However, the Doug Smith Subaru team has told me that I have an open recall on my 2014 Outback, and that there is a solution for testing my oil consumption issue--as my "new to me 2014 2.5L Outback" is burning 1 quart of oil every 3,000 miles or between oil changes. In my opinion the car is too new and has too few miles to be having this issue. The kind service staff at Doug Smith Subaru were quick to answer those questions, whereas I was unsuccessful in getting the same questions answered by the other area Subaru dealerships in the greater Salt Lake area.
