I've serviced my vehicle here and recently bought a new Subaru and I have had very good experiences both times. For their service department, I feel their advisors are knowledgeable and helpful. I've gotten a couple oil changes and some other work done and they are pretty good with communication and time estimates. Their waiting room is solid too, so it's not much issue to wait; especially since there are a lot of restaurants around. When it came time to upgrade my wife's car, we wanted another Subaru. We brought our dog and met Dempsey, who was great to work with. We were not decided which vehicle would fit best. Dempsey was not pushy, offered good advise and was very patient while we drove several cars over several weeks. In the end, we got a great Outback and were in and out of financing very quickly. I would easily recommend Dempsey if your car shopping. Also, feel free to bring your dog. read more

I am not in the habit of liking auto dealerships, but Doug Smith Subaru in American Fork made buying a car easy. They were honorable, and lived up to their word. This is something other Subaru dealerships in Utah should consider. In the end, I drove 3.5 hours, round trip, to buy my car from Doug Smith Subaru, and it was time well spent. I recently bought a certified used Outback. Greg Miller was our salesman, and it was an exceptional buying experience! None of the haggling, or feeling of getting ripped off, or just the usual typical unease of buying from a dealer. Greg whipped through the paperwork- explaining everything along the way, and answering any of our questions. In his genuine friendly manner, he helped keep our small son entertained, and was a nice, interesting guy to talk to. After having the car for a few days, I realized there was a small issue in the front suspension. I contacted Greg, and he worked out all the details for me to get the car in, and for who to talk to that he had already explained the situation to. Problem quickly and kindly taken care of. While I had the car in the service department, I found out that the car had not had its last major service done. A service that can cost over $800. Once again, I contacted Greg and told him what I had found out. Once again, Greg talked to whoever he needed to, and in this case, it was determined that the car had had the service, it had been overlooked. Problem solved. Overall, a great experience. Greg Miller was fantastic! I would buy a car from Doug Smith again, and I would definitely ask for Greg Miller. read more

We brought my wife's Subaru into the service shop. She has experienced electrical issues due to a brake switch failing repeatedly, which the car has been serviced for in the past. The last time her car was serviced, the technician stated that he had never had to replace this part before. Brian, the service manager, was the opposite of helpful. He was disdainful when we asked him if he investigated any underlying cause for the issue. He insisted that he explained the warranty on our Subaru now includes a deductible, although he never even mentioned it when he described the issue to us while checking our car in. Brian talked over us instead of listening to our concerns, mocked us when we asked him to investigate whether there was an underlying issue, and charged us $100 for the quick installation of a part which costs $20 on Amazon. I will never be returning to Doug Smith Subaru again, and would advise anyone I know against purchasing a car there, but in particular to avoid their service center. The price is inflated for their services, their attention to detail is minimal, and their customer service is completely inadequate. We are continuing to experience intermittent electrical issues with our vehicle, but I will not be returning to Doug Miller for additional troubleshooting (even though we are still under warranty) because I have zero faith they will make any legitimate attempts to resolve our issue. If their service manager won't even pretend to take any additional steps to troubleshoot our issue, and treats us with contempt when we tried to investigate the issue further, why should I hope the employees he directs would be any different. I'm very disappointed. I love Subaru vehicles, and my wife and I will likely drive them for years, but I will not be returning to Doug Miller ever again. read more

I am rather new to the area and just recently visited Doug Smith Subaru to look at some vehicles. I worked with Louis Bergener and could not be any happier with my experience! From the moment I arrived, I was treated impeccably. This was my first time looking at Subarus and Louis was incredibly knowledgeable and kind. He took the time to explain all of the different benefits and features of each make and model and answer my endless questions! I never felt pressured to purchase and am thrilled with my new 2018 Subaru Crosstrek! Once I decided on the vehicle, he also took the time to go over all of the features of the car with me and help me to sync the bluetooth features, etc. I never felt rushed or hurried and in fact, Louis made it a point to tell me numerous times that he would be happy to assist me and answer any questions I had. As the car comes with a warranty, he advised me that I could call the service department directly or contact him and he would assist me in setting up any necessary appointments - now THAT is extraordinary customer service! Although I don't anticipate wanting to look at another car anytime soon, I would absolutely go back to Louis at Doug Smith and I would recommend the same for anyone. If you want to shop in a no-pressure atmosphere, have the assistance of friendly, knowledgable staff, and feel valued not only before you make your purchase, but after as well, this is the place to go! We had purchased a Subaru Outback that had mechanical issues. It turned out that the car could not be repaired. At first I was frustrated that vehicle was in the shop for 6 weeks. We were provided a loaner for the entire period the vehicle was in the shop for repairs. Finally Brian the service manager worked with Subaru corporation to find a solution. We were traded out of the 2015 Outback and purchased a 2017 Outback. We paid nothing our of our pocket and received a new vehicle with a lower payment than on the previous vehicle. After being frustrated, I realized Brian and his team did everything they could do to make the situation right. I truly believe they did the right thing because they wanted to not because they had to. We will be purchasing more vehicles from Doug Smith. read more

The service department here is terrible. My pregnant wife was stuck in the lobby with our two young children for 6 hours waiting for snow tires to be put on our vehicle (how it takes 6 hours to change some tires, I have no idea, but that's not even my primary complaint). When she finally got in the car to leave, she noticed the tire pressure light was on. She got out to check the tires, and found that one was completely flat. The services manager refused to take any responsibility for the damaged tire and insisted it must have already been flat when we brought it in, even though the tires were fine when we took them off 6 months ago and they've just been sitting in our garage since then. I'm pretty suspicious the dealership unintentionally damaged the tire somehow. At the very least they put a damaged tire on the vehicle and didn't catch it before returning it to us, indicating they didn't take it for a test drive or check their work. We're lucky the tire was flat before my wife left and not when she was driving when it could have been dangerous. They ended up charging us for a replacement tire, which had to be ordered in. After the tire arrived a few days later, we tried to set an appointment to have it put on the vehicle and were told there were no openings for a month. The return appointment took 2 hours (still too long). Our car was not washed or vacuumed either time, which is standard at most dealerships. All in, having snow tires put on took one month of total time, 8 hours sitting in a dealership lobby, and cost $300. The service department at Doug Smith is horribly mis-managed. We will never go back. read more

We moved to Lehi in November from Houston, TX and I felt we needed an AWD vehicle. Having been a Honda family for quite a long time, I looked at the Honda CRV, but my instincts kept leading me to the Subaru. Being 65 years old, we have experienced many nightmare negotiations with dealerships and I so dreaded buying a new vehicle. One day, my son and I went by Doug Smith Subaru to just look, and a very nice salesman, Scot Madsen, showed us the Forrester and Outback. We told him we were just looking and he presented absolutely no pressure. A few weeks later, I was ready to purchase an Outback, so we went back to see Scot Madsen. He showed us several different Outbacks and thoroughly explained the difference in each one. Again, there was no rush or pressure presented by Scot. We made the decision and began negotiations......wow, what an amazingly wonderful experience. I have never bought a car with such a positive, pleasant, friendly and non-pressure experience. The whole dealership and staff was so very helpful and friendly. I took my Outback back this past week to have the Zurich Shield Protection added and again, the staff remembered us and welcomed us there. I would highly recommend Doug Smith Subaru and Scot Madsen and give them a 5 Star Rating! Love my Outback! read more
