Doubletree has always been one of the nicer hotels in Durango it has that nice mountain lodge feel when you walk in but the rooms are pretty standard rooms so I really don't understand for the huge hike in prices compared to other Double Tree hotels around. For $250 bucks a night I would really expect more. I will say they do have some killer river balcony views but other than that I really cant see my self paying $250 again as the Homewood Suites up the road is cheaper with newer and much bigger rooms. read more

This is THE hotel to stay in Durango. It has beautiful views, friendly service, it is pet friendly, and had amazing views!! I have stayed here twice and I will certainly be coming back. The rooms are very, very clean and the beds are so comfortable. However, our hairdryer was broken and we did not have enough towels. Also, this past time we stayed, the maid never came to our room (we never put the do not disturb sign up). Despite all of that, this hotel is in a perfect location, not far from amazing restaurants, Fort Lewis College, and cute little antique shops. read more

This was probably the worst hotel I have stayed at in a very long time. The staff was very rude at check-in. It was almost as though we were an inconvenience. For the price of the rooms, they were not updated and pillows had probably not been changed out in over a year. First, the neighbors dog woke us up barking at 5am. Then, the cleaning crew decided to vacuum at 6am. The walls were so thin we could hear neighbors. It was not recommended at all!!!!! read more

I've stayed here three times over the years. We love this hotel and can't imagine staying anywhere else in Durango. The location is superb by far. I recommend top floor on the north side. River view. Spectacular. Rooms very spacious and clean. Beds comfortable. Double sinks in the bathroom. Updated. We were very confused about the dining room closing for dinner. Even though they offer other outside dinning locations it was odd not to go into the beautiful air conditioned dining area with a view of the river for dinner. Now on the other side for me personally. I don't want to share my meals or seating with other people's pets. dogs every where. Even sitting on the couch in the lobby. This is a huge turn off for my husband and I. I believe the whole first two floors are pet friendly. So avoid those two floors if you don't want to share your vacation with animals weaving between your legs. Plus barking. We walked down the hall and heard dogs barking from two rooms. No no no!! While making your reservation request a non pet room. I don't care how much they tell you they clean those rooms, our friends were put in one and she saw white fur on the carpet and on a table. She is allergic and the hotel moved her immediately to a non pet floor. Will I stay here again, yes. The service is fantastic and we felt so relaxed sitting on our balcony watching the Animas river flow by. read more

The BF and I took a road trip to Durango and decided to stay at this Doubletree. This is a huge hotel in comparison to the others in the neighborhood. half the rooms overlook the river for a premium, it's close to historic downtown (close enough to walk to), and the rooms are clean. What more could you ask for. Outlets were plentiful for all the technologies we must have with us these days. Double sink in the bathroom. Beds are pretty darn comfortable. I've been staying in my fair share of hotels these days and I have to admit I was very surprised to find no mini fridge in my room. I thought that was standard these days. Just thought I'd mention it. I know the overlooking the river cost extra and I will admit that I loved listening to the running water and sitting out on the balcony enjoying the view. I recommend the river view rooms, top floor if you can, reserve ahead of time they book up fast. read more

If you don't want to deal with 3rd party booking sites such as kayak - don't use them to fill your hotels. After a last minute change of plans, we needed a place to stay in Durango for the night. And we had the dog with us. My hopes were not high but this Doubletree Hilton came to our rescue in style. We ended up with a spacious and very clean king room on the bottom floor facing the street side and overlooking the service entrance, rather than the parking lot. It actually turned out not to be so bad since it wasn't noisy (except for the train whistle) and the balcony was shaded by nice big aspens. Our pup was greeted with a big doggie bowl and a couple of treats. The little flyer with them said pet sitting services are available if needed. Hooray Hilton for being pet friendly! The bed was super comfy and we love the way Hilton makes their beds with a down comforter in between two sheets so we can rearrange the covers for the right sleeping temperature. The bathroom was large and clean and I love the yummy smelling Crabtree & Evelyn bath products. The free wi-fi was kinda slow but luckily I didn't need it for very long. The room had a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Outlets are conveniently located in the base of the lamps so plugging in all your devices is hassle-free. I was excited to see that each of the trash cans in the room were split into two parts, one for recycling and one for trash. Glass, aluminum and paper are accepted for recycling. Recycling bins are also found outside next to every trash can. The property is right on river so we used the riverwalk for all of our dog walks. The rooms on that side have a beautiful view and guests can hear the rushing river through open balcony doors. I'm sure those rooms come with a hefty price tag but maybe one day we can use some Hilton Honors rewards points to stay in one of those rooms. It's a quick walk from the hotel to Main Avenue and the super cute downtown area. I'd love to come back for a longer stay to explore more of Durango. I hope the person who decided everyone should receive warm chocolate chip cookies at check-in got a big fat raise. As Paris would say: that's hot! read more

It's right off the highway and short walk to main street - where all the food and bars are. We called an hour out on our road trip and they had rooms available! We got the cheap "city view" king room. Just over $100 with AAA! Not too shabby for calling the night of. I would have fired up the laptop, but their rate on the phone was cheaper than travelocity so why bother. Staff was friendly during check in, gave us our complementary Double Tree cookies - still warm! Mmmm! Our room was on the first floor and luckily was high enough not to have all the cars lights flash in the window. read more

Outstanding week-long stay! Great location and amenities, and the most welcoming and helpful staff I've ever encountered at a hotel. Everyone we encountered -- from front desk to restaurant hostess to shuttle drivers -- was so genuinely helpful and friendly. The staff was very responsive from the get-go, scheduling our shuttle pickup at the airport, patiently waiting for our delayed flight, and bringing in and installing a rear-facing infant seat from home for our baby -- incredible! At the end of our trip, when I realized I left our Ergo baby carrier at a hotel museum the day prior, the shuttle driver promptly made a side trip there on the way out to the airport to retrieve it -- life-saver while traveling alone with 2 kids! We ate breakfast everyday and a couple of dinners at the hotel (both in the restaurant and room service) -- decent spread and great service. Indoor pool/hot tub was a perfect end to our cold days. Onsite laundry and responsive maid service was a life saver (with unfortunate stomach bug and colds from our travel). I stayed here on a short winter road trip through the Southwest. I got a very reasonable rate ($125/night), which was enough to make it one of the most expensive hotels in Durango. The decor is warm and inviting like a classic lodge. While the style is a bit outdated, the facilities and rooms do not look old. My river view room had a nice view of Animas River. The pictures of the river on Hilton's website are definitely more majestic and beautiful compared to the actual views of the river, but the actual views aren't bad either. I am HHonors Gold and was given a large fruit and nut snack bag, two bottles of water, and two vouchers for the breakfast buffet which included made-to-order omelettes. Overall, a very comfortable and satisfying stay. read more

After staying in a less than stellar place in Flagstaff, this place was truly great. It accommodates pets. I took our dog on a nice walk along the river out back of the hotel. Other dog owners did the same. Durango has a great healthy outdoors vibe. This hotel is a 4 minute walk from downtown that has lots of restaurants and a fun atmosphere. The hotel attendants were very helpful finding restaurants and providing polite help. read more

At first I was just a little put out, but nothing too extreme. I landed at the airport and immediately called and requested the shuttle. The front desk responded "our shuttle driver is on the way to pick up the rest of your crew, we'll add you to the list" I work for an airline so they knew I was coming. Turns out they never relayed the message to the shuttle driver and as I walked out the front door, I watched the crew drive away in the van. I again immediately dialed up the hotel. They put me on hold for a bit and said, "the shuttle driver didn't know you were coming so he is already half way back to the hotel. It will be 45 minutes before he can come back." By itself, not a huge problem. Poor communication and customer service, yes, but anything really horrible? Not yet. I get to my hotel room and change clothes. I go to the restroom and get out the boxed up bar of soap so I can wash my hands and eat my dinner, which I'm already starving for because of the late arrival. I'm tempted to post the image of the "fresh out of the box" soap that I was given to wash my hands, but it ruined my appetite and I dont want it to ruin yours. The "fresh soap" was clearly used, with orange tint..and..gulp...a hair stuck into it. And not just a hair from your head. Imagine the worst type of hair you could find and know its not yours. The front desk didn't really know what to do either when I showed her my soap. She offered me free breakfast. I'm not sure I trust the food, after what I found in the soap. read more

When you pay for a hotel of this caliber you have certain expectations. This facility falls short on several of those expectations. The bathroom tub leaves a lot to be desired. It looks like amateurs tried to add accessories. And the shower head does not work as it supposed to. Let's discuss the restaurant, my family and I had breakfast there. I had bacon and eggs, the menu said it would be apple wood smoked bacon. when the meal arrived it was some of the thinnest non flavored bacon I've ever had, very disappointed. my wife ordered the French toast. One has certain expectations when you order french toast. having the dough deep fried is not one of them. the menu said nothing about deep fried dough. again had to be sent back. way below expectations for a hotel of this caliber and the prices they charge. The hotel was great, it is located right on the river. It is also very close to Historic Durango. The rooms are nice, and the beds are comfortable. Pros: Amazing view, great location (close to downtown, right on the river, easy access in and out of town), clean rooms. Giving me free hot cookies upon check-in is a good way to butter me up for a good review but then being a super hotel on top of that? Score! Beautiful hotel that is just steps from downtown, right off the freeway and sits along the Animas River, wow wow wow. My room had a patio that overlooked the river and it was quite a beautiful sight/sound. Comfortable beds, nice bathrooms and toiletries (funny story: one of my companions used the face moisturizer with sunscreen as hand lotion) plenty of space in the room and a nice tv and digital cable, spent a morning watching the Food Network while waiting for one of my companions to stop bleeding (another funny story). The fast free wifi was a godsend for those of us addicted to facebook and their business center was free to use even for printing boarding passes! If you're ever in Durango (and you really ought to go) stay here! read more

This hotel has it all - beautiful views of the Animas River, great food at the Edgewater Grill (breakfast buffet is excellent with their omelet station and their dinner specials are always good), clean rooms, really comfortable beds. Perfect location - Main Street, where everything in Durango is located, is just a walk away. There's also an Albertson's and Liquor World next to the hotel. They usually offer military rates and AAA rates. Check online to see if you can get discounts. read more

We've stayed in literally dozens of Hilton properties this past year - and we generally had a good experience at this property. Two things we noticed: (1) the "free breakfast" coupons with our room were really only good for cereal/coffee/juice - not a full "english breakfast" as we typically get at a Hilton. (2) Maybe this is typical for Doubletree - but there wasn't an "executive level" as there are at regular Hilton branded properties. Since there wasn't an "executive level" for Hilton Gold/VIP/etc. - we assumed we'd be comped a full breakfast - since that's typically what's available on the executive level. That being said: the room was just what we expected: spacious for 2, very clean, and plenty of power outlets. read more

Pleasantly surprised by this charming hotel that is very walkable to Main Street old town Durango. Service was great and the rooms were very comfortable. The hotel has a very old, historic feel. However, it has been updated, particularly the bathroom which I thought was a nice touch with the modern tiles and shower fixtures. The water pressure in the shower was awesome and like no other! Perfect location, great balconies on the river, quiet rooms (huge plus nowadays), free parking, friendliest staff and huge rooms. We would definitely recommend this place if you want to be walking distance to the bars, shops and restaurants. So, in regard to the crappy (pun intended) toilet paper others have mentioned. It is shitty, but definitely not the worst I have ever encountered. Hell, in elementary school we had individual square sheets. So nothing will top that! Due to the reviews we brought a roll from home and problem solved! The beds were too soft for my liking as were the pillows. The rooms could use a little updating, but not horrific. I'd love to give this place 5 stars. The service is wonderful and the rooms are pretty much updated and immaculately clean. Our bathroom was all brand new granite, new tile and new fixtures but the bed room furniture is showing just a little wear. The bed is fabulous. The TV, wifi and plenty of outlets are well thought out as any modern hotel room should be. We had refrigerator and nice balcony with a view of the river. Loved the balcony and the river view. But the room carpet was a bit worn as were the comfy chair and the drapes. The lobby is all golden oak and brass which goes with the whole old train vibe that Durango has going. Everything in the room, lobby and dining room were spotless. The staff couldn't be nicer. The hotel is right on the Animus River trail which is wonderful 7 mile paved scenic walking and biking trail so that is a big plus. Literally walk out the hotel door and on to the trail. The hotel is 2 blocks from Main St where all the shopping and eateries are so another big plus. The hotel is also 2 blocks from the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Steam Rail Road depot. The Rail Raod is a MUST-DO in Durango. Summary: excellent service, super clean, good sized rooms, some with great river views. Great service and ideal location make this a great stay. I will definitely stay there on my next visit. read more

Do yourself a favor - pay a little more and get a river facing room - you'll be glad you did. Michael the Manager on Duty was an engaging and personable man who made us feel right at home. In addition, I can't say enough about Kelsey who greeted us upon check in. Not only is she clearly competent but kind hearted and helpful. I am here to tour Ft. Lewis College with my daughter and Kelsey really took time to help us become familiar with not only the school but Durango as well. She went way above and beyond. Not the nicest double tree I have stayed at but definitely the friendliest. I really has that old west charm and a great staff. The rooms are quite large for a hotel. The hotel is right on the river and has a very nice restaurant along the water. This will definitely be where I stay in Durango from now on. read more

I have been to this hotel many times, but the COVID response leaves a lot of concerns. First, we were misled to believe the restaurant would be opening the same day as the beer garden, which turned out to be incorrect. Second, I noticed some rooms had a seal on the door marked as "clean," but I did not see the same on my door when I checked in. This and a couple of crumbs on the floor of my room made me really concerned my room was not sufficiently cleaned. I also never saw a single person clean anywhere near the elevators, and they were in frequent use. All of that being said, the staff here are always extremely friendly and helpful. read more

Excellent location for a Polar Express trip to Durango with the kids. We've stayed here last year so we decided to stay this year and we were surprised by the hospitality of Jamie, Michael and Collin at the front desk. We usually stay in a specific room but unfortunately there was some maintenance needing to be done at that room. Jamie and Michael assisted in getting us a Nother room and met our needs and exceeded them. Colin helped us out immensely at checkout time to be sure everything was done perfectly. Great customer service. The rooms are very good and spacious. They can accommodate any need. Breakfast in their hotel was very good whether you eat from their buffet or order off the menu. The swimming pool is heated and salt water so it's a lot of fun for the kids. It is within walking distance of the town but quiet so you don't hear any road noise, rail road or the neighbor next-door. The customer service by Jamie, Michael and Collin makes this a great place to go. read more

First the good: - There's a charming old west lobby with a bar, shop, restaurant, and free local and national papers - It sits right on a very pretty river and bike/walking path Cons: - Our first room absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke. It was like stepping into 1985. They changed our room, to their credit. - The rooms are Motel 6 quality. Cheap fixtures, TV, lamps didn't work, etc - It feels egregious that parking is $8 to be in a half empty lot in a hotel you're paying a premium for - the Riverside bar, a main attraction, was closed. No explanation. - In the adjacent Albertson's there's a large group of homeless/drug people encamped. Felt unsafe walking back at night - if you don't have a river view you have a parking lot view, with the full cacophony that implies In short, look elsewhere in Durango at this price point or else stay somewhere cheaper and you can get roughly the same experience. read more

We had a lovely stay here. The only negative was the price. It's a nice hotel and charging a bit more than others makes sense, but the price here was quite expensive. The rooms were nice. The pool is nice and clean, as is the hot tub. The entire hotel was very clean. They had some good restaurant option--one had some nice live music in the evening. It would have been five stars for me if they took $25 off the price, which would still be more than other local hotels. read more

We took a mini vacation to see Durango, since friends of ours said how beautiful to it is. When we arrived the phones buttons didn't work and were rudely told to just dial 0 for anything. Then the heating system didn't work, and we're rudely told again that this is how heaters work even in staying at a 5* hotel. Then we had children above us jumping on the bed to the ground at 6pm and 9pm. Then we we're woken by housekeeping vacuuming at 8:30am. I called the front desk to ask if housekeeping needed to start cleaning this early and was again, told yes, they start at 8. We continually vacation at 5*+ hotels and have never had these issues. Would never stay here again and don't recommend it. read more

I love this hotel. Any time I am in the Durango area this is where I am staying. I have had city view rooms and river view rooms. The best are the first floor river view rooms as you can walk out of your room and into the river during the summer. An amazing trail runs behind the hotel and if you are a jogger/biker this is a major plus. All the main street shops are just a couple blocks away and an easy walk. It is really pricey in the Summer but really reasonable in the Winter. Durango is probably one of my favorite towns I have ever visited and I will stay at the Doubletree time and time again. It does have an onsite bar/resturant but why eat there when there are so many other things within walking distance of this hotel. read more
