Very nice location with the Animas River gently rolling behind the property. Convenient to downtown and an Albertson's grocery store is a few steps away. Room was very big and I agree with another reviewer that the open space in the middle of the could use something, like an ottoman. The only thing that was strange was the floor was wet, right in front of the couch when I got in to my room. Perhaps they steamed it after the last tenants left? At any rate, it has been a while since I've stayed here and pleased that I came back. I will stay here again when in Durango. read more

For $230 a night, you get a free homeless person sleeping in the hall, a flooded bathroom, a fake Covid-Cleaned room, and management who doesn't care then this is the hotel for you! So, our room was 'covid-cleaned' which is to say it was certified by the hotel as 'clean.' It wasn't. We found someone's nasty dirty sock in the bathroom. It wasn't like they could miss it. It was nasty. Second, I had called the hotel and asked them if they could provide a bath bench for my disabled wife. I asked because usually we bring our own. However, the customer service at the hotel said, they could provide it. When we got there, they provided some kind of homemade bath bench, that looked like an engineer had designed it. Okay, great, except that when you took a shower, it overhung the bathtub and basically flooded the bathroom. This created a two inch puddle of water on the tile. This then created a safety hazard as my wife couldn't get out of the tub without us cleaning the floor up. So, we had to 'mop up' two inches of water off the floor. After twenty minutes of cleaning up the water, we finally tried to get her out. But the floor was slick and no matter what we did, she couldn't gain traction. After much slipping, sliding and a potentially life threatening near fall, we got her out. I brought this to the attention of the hotel management, who basically did nothing So, this brings me to the homeless man sleeping in the hallway. Yes, for $230 a night, you too can have a homeless man sleeping in the hallway. Again, when I brought this to the attention of management, their response was, oh, it happens here. What? What the hell am I paying $230 a night for, if homeless people can sleep in the hallway for free? Out of four nights, management refunded two of them. I will say this. It was a good start, but the fact is, there are four 'suite' hotels within Durango that I would go to before I would return to the Doubletree. There is the Springhill, Homewood, Comfort Inns and Suites. Go to one of them over this hotel. I would definitely check out one of those first. Save your money, the river view is not worth the price or the lack of service. read more

Awful service in the restaurant and bar. We had reservations for New Year's Eve to take advantage of their advertised Prime Rib dinner special. We went early to avoid any potential crowds. We were told to "sit anywhere" because it wasn't very busy. It took 30 minutes to get a drink and then over an hour to get our dinner. The waitress said they were short-handed. They bring the dinner out on those big black carts that you sometimes see used bussing tables in a tacky restaurant. Terrible presentation. The only good thing I can say about the dinner was that the mashed potatoes were good; the prime rib wasn't. We then made a bigger mistake by going over to the bar inside the hotel. The bartender said it would be a bit of a wait. We weren't in a hurry, so thought 15-20 minutes would be fine. We bussed our own table and then waited 30 minutes before my husband and friend walked up to the bar to try to get a couple of drinks and bring them back to the table rather than waiting for the bartender/waitress to come to the table. She told them to go back to the table. We waited another 30 minutes and no sign that she was coming over. She wouldn't even make eye contact! After an hour of no service at all, we left. The management of the food and bar service at this hotel needs to be replaced as well as the bartender. read more

The. Worst. Upon check-in it was as if we were a bother even being guests. Then, they stuck us in a room across from the elevator, next to the ice machine, vending machine and their industrial laundry room. Non-stop noise. We asked to be moved and they said they had no river side availability. Long night with noise pollution. We moved the following day. To a room that smelled like very heavy cigarette smoke. Waiting on someone to bring up some Febreze..... This hotel is also really old. Popcorn ceilings etc. It needs a complete overhaul. We love staying in Durango and enjoying time there however this hotel is very dated and then we were charged for parking in your parking lot. As a guest where else are people to park so we were forced to pay for one night parking. If that is necessary then add it to the bill without people knowing. We will never stay at this hotel again. Very old hotel that has been around a while yet kept up well. Furniture is a bit dated but goes with the overall decor. Cookies a bit cold and hard when we arrived. If you're traveling on business for your company they are a bit stingy with your Hilton points. They don't want to give you credit and definitely didn't want to honor my gold status. It was pretty easy to check in although our room wasn't ready when we arrived. We decided to check out the restaurant they have, service was good not too many knowledge people about the area. We came to this hotel 2 years ago and liked it much more than we did this time. Last time all the front desk staff was so welcoming. This time, the night front desk staff and the morning staff were very unenthused, just not welcoming. Also, our room had a slight odor- nothing awful, but not good. Good things are that they give warm chocolate chip cookies at check-in, the hotel is old and the lobby is pretty. The rooms are a bit more spacious than rooms at other hotels, and offer a typical level of comfort, bathrooms are a bit roomier and have good water pressure in the shower. Last, there is a great view of the walking path/ river from the backside of the hotel, and you can see town and mountains from the front. You can also easily cross one busy street to get to downtown Durango, so it's very walkable. With all that, it's still overpriced to begin with, and you also have to pay $12 for parking. Considering that, and the grumpy staff, I think we will not stay there in the future. read more

Location is everything and this hotel has it. 2 minutes driving distance from downtown or 5-8 minutes walking. Their is Albertson's, starbucks, gas station and mcdonalds at the intersection. Check out was fine, staff was friendly. Sleeping, not so comfortable. Pillows and bedding dated. We got scenic view, so the Animas was right outsiide the balcony. This place smells terrible. It is definitely time for a remodel. The lobby is a cheesy western theme. For the price of our room I was expecting nicer accommodations. My children had a hard time entering the room because of the musty/moldy smell. They did bring us baking soda to put into the carpets but if you have allergies or sensitivities I would skip this hotel. It's a shame the don't update it because it is right on the river and has potential to be a nice place. read more

This hotel gets five stars mainly for it's exceptional customer service. We have stayed at this location several times and have always had a good experience. Rooms typically come with a refrigerator and microwave which are great when traveling in a tourist town. The brunch is also exceptional. On this trip we had an issue with some noisy neighbors and a couple of other little issues. Management was very responsive to our problems and, at one point, offered to move us to another room for the night. We will be back again. We booked the only room available at the Double Tree via Priceline. When we arrived, we asked about river view availability and were able to be upgraded at a discounted price. Two pay washer and dryers are available for use and this was a lifesaver! We were on the second floor, and while the view is amazing no matter the floor, I just felt like we were all up in people's business and vice verse. Top floor, river view, would be ideal for me. The Double Tree has a Beer Garden so there is a ton of foot traffic on the river walk. read more

You know how sometimes you walk into a fancy department store or restaurant in normal, non-designer clothes, intending to drop a significant amount of money, BUT...the staff treats you like you're not worth their time. I love Doubletree Hotels. It's not just the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies or the luxurious beds (although these certainly add to the experience!). It's the fact that I've always been given 5 star service whether I'm wearing jeans and a t-shirt or professional clothes. Stayed here with my dad, HHONORS member, to ride the train. Biggest plus was that they allow dogs and I brought my 10lb ball of fluff, smax, with us. The hotel is average, a bit old, but fine. We apparently arrived during a shift change and the room was only 1/2 done when we got up there , But We informed the front desk and someone came right up to do the beds. Then they sent up 3 "free dinner for 2" tickets to the restaurant which was super generous. Room was a bit dingy (chairs were quite dirty looking and curtains were sort of gross) but I'm used to that sometimes when I have my dog. The view of the river off the balcony was nice though. Bedding and bathroom were clean which is really all that matters. Overall it was great and biggest point is that they take dogs! read more

While the staff is friendly, the facility is in dire need of some updating. The carpet is old and worn. The main reception area and bar area is very dimly lit. When we checked in our room, the television wasn't working. They charge for parking, which they have not always done. The hotel points program, Hilton Honors, used to give our tier free full breakfast - this is the case no longer. If you want even simple food beyond the just-add-water-eggs and standard sausage, you will have to pay around eight bucks, if I remember correctly. Might as well walk into town and get some custom grub. The location is great. The pool was clean, but the emergency telephone didn't work. Lots of room for improvement at the Doubletree Durango. read more

I really don't know why I didn't look at Yelp before I booked here. The hotels.com rating is not accurate. We started for our Christmas vacation. First off the beds are horrific. They were hard as rocks and the pillow were the exact opposite but you needed like 50 to get cozy. 2nd is parking, 12 dollars a day for an open parking lot is a bit much and not something that's told to you. We had the holiday buffet at 60 dollars an adult and 30 dollars child. I can tell you I couldn't make it through 1 plate with the amount of msg was in there. I felt sick after eating half my plate. I know they do that to prevent overeating but all is adults were like nauseated full after barely anything and then an hour later were hungry. They also charged 30 bucks for my nephew who's 3 and ate a cookie. So not worth it. My kids did enjoy the indoor pool and they do give you giant chocolate chip walnut cookies upon arrival and departure. The view of the river was nice and its a convenient walk to the grocery store which we hit up to save money because eating there every day would have cleared the bank account. Unfortunately as we were check out they ended up charging us twice for incidentals which was not low amount and they weren't very helpful in correcting the problem. Can't say we will return. And as I said in the beginning need to remember to read yelp reviews before booking. read more

A good value, no longer. Had a pleasant stay as always. Walking distance to downtown and restaurants. The pool and hot tub are always welcoming as well. Unfortunately, it appears that they shut down the dry sauna because it was deadbolted shut. So why only three stars? $8 per day parking that was not disclosed until we checked out. This is for a flat lot and not a covered parking garage. I don't recall ever paying for parking at this hotel, and I've been coming here for several years. This isn't LA or NYC it's Durango. With the amount of hotels in the area both existing and even some new ones built in the past few years there is plenty to choose from. Next time I think I will stay at a new property with free parking. This is just another unscrupulous way to maximize their profit. Oh. I forgot until just now. I think all Hilton brand hotels may have changed the structure of their reward program but I used to be able to get complimentary breakfast as a gold or diamond Hilton Honors member.. to include at this property an omelette chef cooking your order in front of you. Now the omelette chef is replaced by a complimentary continental breakfast that has quality that is no better than a Hampton Inn breakfast but now if you want to order anything or eat off the hot buffet there is a $7 per person charge. I used to hold Doubletree in high regard as far as value. This trip has made me think twice about this. Overall, the property is quite old but has been lightly refreshed through the years. Maintenance appears to be good. (Our TV was not working upon checking in but was replaced that evening.) You are walking distance to town and the multi use trail is right out back so bring your running shoes. Due to the 'nickel and diming' that I experienced on this trip I will be looking elsewhere in town for my next trip. read more

Everything you'd expect from a hotel where most usually fall short. - Fast, free, friendly airport shuttle available. - Friendly & helpful front desk folks. - CLEAN and very comfortable rooms. Great beds! - Sparkling CLEAN hot tub and pool (this is usually where many resorts fail). Only item I would have liked which was missing was a free breakfast or at least a voucher to reduce the cost of a kind of pricey $14 breakfast buffet. I'm sure it is worth it, but when you just need a quick meal before going skiing, that's a bit much. It really is a short walk to downtown and I'll stay here again the next time I come through Durango. read more

First time here and I think this is a great place for a family vacation. Warm cookies at check in was yummy; jacuzzi & pool are perfect for me & my monkey who loves to swim! Coffee and cookies are available in the lobby in the morning. The hotel is clean, spacious lobby area with updated look, pleasant staff, has a restaurant with good pancakes! The food is pricey as you would expect in a hotel but the buffet looked great! The pool is WARM!! Love it! Jacuzzi is pretty big and is kept hot. Love it x2!! Room is equipped with mini fridge, microwave, flat screen TV, good quality toiletries. And you know what, I love the fact that they passed my hotel pet peeve test...the tub drains well, water pressure excellent, AND the towels are nice & big! Good going Double Tree! This is a very convenient location with Albertsons right next door and the Main Street right across from the hotel so all the shopping & dining are within a pleasant walking distance. The ski resort is only about 35-45min drive too. On top of this, the hotel is located along the river and a nice paved walkway for your strolls. Some review said it's pricey but for $440 for three nights with all these amenities, I think it's an excellent value! Give this place a try instead of those overpriced "resort"! read more

Perfect location by the river gives this hotel great views and peaceful setting. We got a room on the first floor and last room on right, 152. This made it easy to park at the end by the awning and go right to our room. We had a small patio with 2 arm chairs with perfect views. It was fall so we got to see the leaves changing colors. The room has a king bed. Large and spacious includes a dining table with 4 chairs,a desk, refrigerator, and microwave. Also, there are two sinks, one in bathroom and one outside of bathroom. We found the bed comfortable. The front desk staff was always smiling and helpful. Our only cons are 1. The shower curtain isn't waterproof so there was a little water puddle after taking a shower. 2. They were updating their credit card system so she had to hand write my card info. She assured me she would keep it private and after she ran it would shred the info. read more

Was in town for a few days... Checked in online the day before and picked my room. Parked outside check-in as was In a rush and wanted to drop off bags/change clothes. Waited inline 3-4 mins to check in and get keys. The staff were awesome, the view was epic from the room with river view. Room was simple and as expected for a double tree. Had an older hotel feel as fits with the town. The checkin area is completely historic style of all wood and slots for messages/room keys. Got a text from the front staff asking how room was a few hours later whole downtown at dinner. I love how hotels are starting to do this. Got another one in the Am asking how my 1st night was. I mentioned the thermostat didn't go higher then 75 and was a bit chilly for me. They asked if ok to send someone up to fix and what temp I wanted it set too. Love that service. Parking is easy staff is awesome. The gym is basic but has all new treadmill, bike and elliptical along with balls and dumb bells (free earbuds if needed, towels provided and. A TV if wanted).. Pool and hot tub looked great which is connected to gym. Had a snack and drink at the lounge on 1st floor over looking the river. Staff there was awesome as well, food was great as live music was playing.. Overall great stay, the service/staff made it better then normal! read more

I was stuck in Durango for a week due to car troubles, and the DoubleTree was phenomenal. The staff were accommodating to my situation and the rooms were clean. This is a gorgeous property which sits right on a river and has great views all around. It is very close to all the shops and restaurants in Historical Durango (right across the street). They have kept a great ambiance in the property from wood carved murals and beautiful chandeliers... It feels like a boutique hotel, but with the benefits of staying at a Hilton property. The rooms were very nice and spacious. The regular King had a balcony with a great view of the winter landscape outside. The bed was amazingly comfortable, as well! I feel like "Goldy Locks" sometimes in hotel beds, some too hard, some too soft, but this one was "just right." My only "gripe" would be that they don't offer a free breakfast. Not much of a big deal, but being one of the more expensive options in town, and being a Hilton (business travel) property, I sort of expected breakfast to be complimentary. I would highly recommend this property to anyone who is traveling through town and staying a few nights to take in some hiking, hunting, skiing, or any sort of activity to be had around these parts. read more

Be prepared to enter a time warp as you walk into the DoubleTree Durango, you will get to re-live the '70s! Unfortunately, it looks like the hotel hasn't been cleaned since then. It is very hard to find anything positive to say about this hotel, particularly when you are spending $400+ a night. Walking down the corridor felt like walking through the set of 'The Shining'. The room was not much better. We were greeted by a dirty room covered in thick dust and a chair that was falling apart, cigarette burns included. Luckily, the DoubleTree provides complimentary Lysol wipes which we needed plenty of. They (apparently) even expect you to place the bin liners in the bins yourself and leave them by the side of the bin. You can probably appreciate that we were not keen on paying $400 a night to do our own housekeeping. We notified the staff regarding the condition of the room and their solution was to get housekeeping to refold the toilet paper into a triangle and advise that it had been sorted. The heavy wooden furniture and headboard looked ancient and gave the room a really run down feel. The floor in the bathroom is even on an angle. Staying in this room alongside the askew lamps, stains, dust and broken furniture was actually really depressing. The bed was very uncomfortable and the pillows as flat as a pancake. Do not expect to sleep in, the sound of the local steam train attraction will wake you repeatedly (although I can appreciate this is not within the hotel's control). The highlight of this stay was departure, we couldn't wait to leave and will never return. I look forward to the DoubleTree's standard response that I am sure will be thoughtfully cut and paste from a previous review. read more

This is THE hotel to stay in Durango. It has beautiful views, friendly service, it is pet friendly, and had amazing views!! I have stayed here twice and I will certainly be coming back. The rooms are very, very clean and the beds are so comfortable. However, our hairdryer was broken and we did not have enough towels. Also, this past time we stayed, the maid never came to our room (we never put the do not disturb sign up). Despite all of that, this hotel is in a perfect location, not far from amazing restaurants, Fort Lewis College, and cute little antique shops. read more
