We had a lovely stay here. The only negative was the price. It's a nice hotel and charging a bit more than others makes sense, but the price here was quite expensive. The rooms were nice. The pool is nice and clean, as is the hot tub. The entire hotel was very clean. They had some good restaurant option--one had some nice live music in the evening. It would have been five stars for me if they took $25 off the price, which would still be more than other local hotels. read more

We took a mini vacation to see Durango, since friends of ours said how beautiful to it is. When we arrived the phones buttons didn't work and were rudely told to just dial 0 for anything. Then the heating system didn't work, and we're rudely told again that this is how heaters work even in staying at a 5* hotel. Then we had children above us jumping on the bed to the ground at 6pm and 9pm. Then we we're woken by housekeeping vacuuming at 8:30am. I called the front desk to ask if housekeeping needed to start cleaning this early and was again, told yes, they start at 8. We continually vacation at 5*+ hotels and have never had these issues. Would never stay here again and don't recommend it. read more

Location is great, close walking distance to the train, downtown and shops. Room was clean. On the Hilton honors floor. Room was nothing special for the price. No view, no balcony, overlooking parking lot. They charge $10 to park a car. I thought that was petty. Put in the already inflated rate. Almost everyone that come to Durango has a car. American Airlines uses Doubletree, so 7 of us who thought we were going to DFW, were bumped and dispatched to Doubletree for the night. Linens were crisp & cozy. Front desk efficient. Their shuttle is called the cookie van because it sports a wrap with a huge cookie on the side. Doubletree provides each guest with a warm cookie at check-in. Only weird observation: my auto wakeup call that is manually coded from the room, was 10 min late. Decent restaurant on-site, which includes an attached bar and outside patio that overlooks a walking path and the Animas River. Ask for a river facing room. It's lovely to hear the water when you open the sliders. read more

Not the most hospitable bunch. Nice hotel but if I stay again it will be in one of the hotels downtown like the Strater. The main thing I hate is calling the main lobby and getting transferred to a "Call Center" on these chain type operations. I made a simple question asking when the bar closed and the call center just lied and told me it closed at 3am. Dissapointed to find out on arrival that it closes at 11pm. Many other cool places downtown to stay that are within walking distance to many late night activities. They also DO NOT have a complimentary breakfast, and for the same hotel rates the downtown hotels have exceptional free breakfast. read more

I wish I could rate this Hotel as we love staying at Double Tree Hotels but we never checked in as we found the Front Desk to be arrogant. We arrived and asked if they had any rooms and then asked if they had any Government Rate available. The answer was that the room would be over $200 and that of course they would NOT offer any other rate. It is not so much about the rate as much as the attitude. We might love the cookies but found a great alternative at the Holiday Inn just a block north. read more

I love this hotel! It's in an amazing spot on the river and near downtown with a great view of snow capped mountains. All the staff were great and I had no issues throughout my stay. My room was spacious and the surroundings were quiet. Buffet breakfast was rather average, but it's better to go out for breakfast downtown anyway! read more

Other than that, this is a beautiful hotel with very comphy beds that is completely quiet and has gorgeous river views from accessible balconies (how rare is that?). We stayed at this hotel last weekend while moving our daughter into the dorms at Ft. Lewis College. We had a very good experience. The room was huge and comfortable. Breakfast buffet choices and service were great. We enjoyed the Animas River Cafe out back with live music in the evening. It is super convenient for downtown and college access Will definitely stay again on future visits to the area. read more

They get knocked down 2 stars for having "Cheese-Ball" management. They now charge for parking (saying it's the City that requires it) AND the free breakfast for Diamond & Gold members is not truly free like it is at ALL OTHER Doubletrees. As a long standing Hilton Diamond member that stays in 50-60 different Hilton hotels per year, I can say this Doubletree is Odd Man Out. BTW, call their bluff and don't tell them you have a vehicle in the parking lot. The lot is massive and never full. read more

This is overall a great hotel in a great location. Right next to the river (rooms on that side have balconies overlooking the river, with rafters drifting by). And only a block from downtown and the train. Our room was spacious, well equipped and in good condition. The staff was very friendly. Definitely a place to recall fondly. The restaurant was rather so-so and the menu leaned toward the heavy side. Fortunately there are lots of nearby alternatives. read more

First off, the location was great, but the customer service was terrible and unfortunately our experience put quite a damper on my birthday celebration and our vacation. Let me start off by saying in that we booked this hotel months in advance as a one night stop on a week long trip over my birthday week. My husband chose this hotel for the location and specifically booked a river front room with a view of the river from the balcony. The drive from the Grand Canyon that day took longer than expected, and we showed up at 7:00 p.m. to check in. Upon arrival, we were told that unfortunately they did not have our river view room available anymore. They had no other explanation except for, things happened, maybe somebody threw up or something, we don't know but the room is not available. Obviously, we were confused and upset as to why this happened. They ended up trying to make things right by giving us a $100 off of the room that they put us in, which turned out to be their smallest room facing the parking lot. They also offered a voucher for dinner in the restaurant but unfortunately by the time we had dinner the restaurant had closed and we end up eating bad lounge food in the bar. That is when things got worse. While sitting in the bar having a drink and eating our food, we overheard a table of 4 guests discussing how one couple had been able to get the last river view room when they checked in at 2:00 p.m.. They were told that there were 2 rooms available and to come back at 3:00 p.m. to see which 1 was still available. You get the picture, they waited to see if we showed up at check in time at 3 and since we did not, they gave away our room, leaving us with the parking lot view room. I guess they figured if we didn't show up at all they made double the money on the room and if we did, they would just give us the remaining room that was left over. I was furious. The next morning when we checked out, I decided to say something to a supervisor. I told them what I had overheard and I demanded that they completely comp the room altogether. They did oblige this request but it does not change the fact that the whole experience sucked. I ended up filling out a survey that the hotel had sent and we were contacted by a manager a week or so later. He had nothing more to say or offer except that he was sorry that that had happened. To make matters worse we are Hilton rewards members but this experience left me with a very sour taste. I didn't get to sit on that balcony facing the river and enjoy my morning coffee or a glass of wine with my husband in the evening. We went on to enjoy the rest of our vacation but I wanted to share this experience with others. Warning, if you are staying here, you better confirm your room before you check in and you best not be there past 3:00 p.m. or your room may be gone. read more

Stayed in Durango for two nights and this hotel was great. I would recommend getting a river view room on the ground floor because you can walk right out onto a cool little trail right on the animas river. Room was clean, staff was friendly; especially our bartender, Rachel. I like that it's pet friendly even though we unfortunately couldn't bring our pets with us since we flew in from PA and made other stops. The walk into town is quick and easy and the hotel shares a parking lot with the grocery and liquor stores. Overall great experience. read more

I hope the management at the this hotel or someone from Hilton Honors reads this and fixes the situation because if you look through my reviews, I have never wrote a bad review for a Hilton Property. So here is my story, I booked my rooms, two rooms at Hiltonhonors.com I'm a Diamond member and I have been for at least 10 years. I've been a HH member for at least 16 years, if I had to guess. We check in and my two river view rooms, with two queen beds are not available. Instead they tell me that they are 100% full and that they have one king bed with a fold out sofa and another room with two queens. So my wife and I and the kids had to take the room with the two beds because there was four of us and my mother and her male friend (not together) had to take the other room with one bed and no they are not a couple. No they did not have a roll away for them to barrow oh and the room with the King did not have a couch. So the front desk said that they would make the rooms right the next day because we were going to stay two nights and that they would adjust my bill. We got up early and went to Silverton on the train and when we came back guess what, no rooms again and we had to have grandma and her male friend share a bed again. On top of that the outside doors don't work after hours and the guy at the counter said sorry and that they have been broken for a while. The TV's had bad reception and the kids could not watch TV. At $250.00 per night I think we got the short end of the stick. The manager reduced the room rate the first night but not the 2nd. We spend over $1200.00 when you add up what we spent in the restaurant. and the bar. Everything about our trip was fun, 7 nights in 6 different Hilton properties. 3 trains, 2 river rafting adventures, 7 different breakfasts, lunches and dinners. We always stay here when we visit Durango. Excellent location, close to train and shops, and the Animas River runs right behind so great views. Rooms are large and nicely arranged with all the amenities, and are very clean. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. We need help with our huge pile of luggage and they always cheerfully help. They also gladly arranged a shuttle for my hubby to get to church. There's a little gift shop on sight in case you've forgotten any little items. Also, the onsite restaurant is excellent, if a little pricy. Food and service are outstanding. My only very minor complaint is that the in room coffee is not Keurig, and it's terrible. But warm chocolate chip cookies balance that out! I highly recommend staying here; you won't be disappointed. read more

The 2013 Thanksgiving Buffet was an absolute travesty. My family used to eat here pretty regularly in the Nineties for the Easter and Mother's Day Buffets. There was always a huge spread of quality fare in a well-organized and classy environment. How things change. The buffet last night was very tiny, the food ranged from mediocre to awful, and the presentation was appalling. I've seen soup kitchens do a better job. And for $30, we could have eaten at some of my favorite upscale buffets in Vegas. It's now the next day and I still feel ill. Thanks for ruining our family Thanksgiving, Doubletree Durango. I have no idea what your rooms are like, but I'll be advising everyone I know to avoid your food from now on. Shameful in an outstanding foodie town like Durango. read more

Our room needed maintenance. Lamps out, closet door off the hinges, dresser drawers gradually opened by themselves. Our room had a nice view of the river, but our location on the south wing is close to Highway 160, so a little noisy. Some of the few available AC outlets needed replacement. Our twin queen beds were comfortable and all the maid services were excellent. The location was also good, close to downtown and the train station. The bathroom setup was good, two sinks and mirrors. The balcony was small but usable. Next time we'll ask for the north wing. read more

I must say I was quite disappointed by my whole experience at this DoubleTree. The desk staff was not friendly, not at all informed about this area (just wanted a bit of info on the town ) and a bit put out when I asked about having a fridge brought to my room. What no fridges in the room at this price??? When I asked where the microwave was so that I could heat up a bottle for my baby, they told me that the kitchen would have to do it, and totally nuked the bejeezers out of it even after I told them how long to nuke it for, sheese! I could go on but for the price I expected MUCH better. I won't be staying there again, there are too many other choices that offer more for less. Doubletree what gives?!?!?!? read more

I've stayed at this hotel for 5 years in a row at 4 days at a time. My last trip will be the last time I ever stay at a Hilton hotel. It all comes down to poor service. The bartender was horribly rude to my business colleague our entire stay. On the last night she was horribly rude to another colleague and myself. When I called her out on it, she ran and got the bar manager who came out to basically scold me and tell me that I am being "shitty". At $259/night I expect a certain level of service. You won't find that here. I contacted their headquarters and the reply I got was, "I see someone from the hotel has contacted you and apologized and sent you some of our delicious cookies. Thanks." Neither of which was true. I received no phone call from anyone at the hotel. A pack of cookies is not going to soothe my frustration with wasting my money on this place. A quick glance at several of the other reviews shows that they seem to have a customer service issue. I believe that it starts at the top. Is Paris running the show these days? Stay at The Rochester Hotel. Skip this place at all costs! read more

Good place to stay, it's near college drive and that's where you will want to eat and shop. Our room faced the animas river and was clean and comfortable. I didn't eat there, to many good restaurants around. I did have a swim and a workout, nice treadmills and I wish they had a pull up bar but oh well. read more

A very nice, somewhat upscale hotel. All staff at the hotel strive to please. This is a fairly large building with 2 wings radiating from a central hub, which contains the lobby, the wonderful restaurant, and a cozy lounge. The best rooms would likely be on the 4th floor, in the north wing, facing the river. Meals and sandwiches are obtainable at both, and it is possible to enjoy a meal and/or drinks outside, overlooking the Animas River. Our 2-queen-bed room on the 4th floor, with its 42" HDTV, was more spacious than most chain motel rooms we have stayed at, which gave us a comfortable feeling. In addition to the TV, our room came with 2 bathroom sinks, a microwave, and a refrigerator. Wifi speed is very good. If you're looking for a hotel that is a step above the ordinary, this one will do very nicely. I will definitely stay here again the next time through Durango. read more

I had a very nice two-day stay during the month of January. The room was facing the town and was fairly large. The bed and bedding was very comfortable. The refrigerator and microwave were functional and quiet. The shower had plenty of pressure with very hot water. The pool and jacuzzi were great! Very nice and deep. Every member of the staff from the receptionist to the wait staff in the restaurant and bar was extremely pleasant and friendly. I recommend this hotel as a comfortable place to stay. read more

We had Christmas Day dinner in the Doubletree's Restaraunt. It was a set menu for $45. Our expectations were high--as terrific dining in Denver (for us) has never been $45. The food was very ordinary and tasted like it had been microwaved. Short staffed--the servers were harried, and it was less than satisfying. read more

I'd give this hotel 5 stars if the people at breakfast weren't so rude. Upon check in, the gentleman working the front desk was very very nice. He could tell we were exhausted from our drive from Arkansas. He immediately offered us cookies and something to drink. He gave my 5 yr old an extra cookie. He got us all checked in and I asked do you offer breakfast? My dad is 73 and is diabetic so breakfast is critical for him. Before he even answered, he asked would you like me to get him some orange juice right now? We had just had a late lunch and I told him he was fine and how much I appreciated the offer. I wish I could remember his name. He then gave us a voucher for free breakfast during our entire stay. He said I don't want your dad to get sick. It was very very nice of him. Breakfast was good! Great selection. Buffet was good, made to order items were wonderful. It did take a very long time to get items ordered off the menu. I know you shouldn't complain over a free breakfast that essentially cost $22 a person or more. But the service we received was TERRIBLE! They made us feel like people off the street. The lady with the blonde pony tail was the absolute worst server I've ever had. Every morning we tried to hurry and eat and get away from them. The rooms were clean. A little dated. I think Hilton properties need to keep up with the "times" but the beds were comfortable. The hotel was not noisy like others. I wish a river view wasn't $80 more dollars a night. Being right by the river was nice. Beautiful mountains surrounding the hotel. Hotel is in a good location. Grocery store next door was great for buying snacks for our extended stay. The guy at check I also gave us adult beverage vouchers. Again, he went above and beyond for us. The bartender from the Edgewater lounge was from Arkansas too, she was super nice. She gave recommendations that were fabulous. Over all our stay was pleasant. The breakfast folks were extremely rude. Oh, the AC in the rooms is that of a typical Hilton hotel. A few weeks ago we stayed in Branson, Mo. at the Hilton on the landing. The maintenance guy finally admitted that Hilton hotels control the AC through computer systems. It was funny how he easily went and turned out air down remotely! He said all Hilton properties do this. The thermostat in the room says 65 but I promise it's 74 in there! Hotel room was clean. As others have stated, the beds were great. We had a river side room, which provided a nice tranquil view. Staff was helpful & accommodating. Pool & hot tub were relaxing....used them multiple times. My only gripe was that breakfast was too expensive...$35 + tax for two. I would still highly recommend it. read more
