My son and I found the Doubleday Cafe on our way into town to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame. After 11 hours in the car we were famished. There was a plenty of space for us on a Friday night in November so we were seated right away. We had a very nice server who was quick to take our order and bring us our drinks. I had fish and chips and my son the burger. We were both happy with our selections. If we make it back to Cooperstown we will certainly find our way to the Doubleday Cafe again. read more

In Cooperstown downtown early morning and found this place open. The place is small and it was packed. We waited 10 minutes for a table. We ordered drinks and then our food. We got huevos rancheros with salsa and huevos rancheros with pico. We order my son a breakfast quesadilla since they didn't have chicken until lunch time. It a very small menu for breakfast not to much too choose from. My other son got #4 combination. The huevos rancheros was chopped squared potatoes and 2 over hard eggs loaded with a think layer of cheese and chunky salsa. I had asked for sunny side up but I just ate them. The other huevos rancheros same thing except for no salsa just diced tomato for the pico. The quesadilla was okay nothing special and the #4 should of been my go to the French toast are okay but probably the best thing they sell. Our server was nice but the older lady's working would bump into you and wouldn't even say sorry. They have a nice bar selection for breakfast. read more

This is a great cafe in the heart of Cooperstown. I enjoyed a fresh salad with avocado, feta, and maple shallot vinagrette (!!!), and my husband had the grilled Korean BBQ salad. Come here any morning afternoon or evening and you will find that this is where the locals eat. Why? Because it has consistently the best food, most reasonable prices, and the best wait staff anywhere. Stopped by here during lunch as I was part of a HoF tour. This place was within walking distance and I am glad I stopped by. Even though they were busy, the waitress was very friendly and helpful. Ordered a salad, lemonade and a chicken parm sandwich with macaroni salad. She said it would be done in about 10 mins and she was right. We came here twice while in town for a baseball tournament. The place is always busy during baseball weeks and the food is great. The menu isn't too big but has enough options for everyone. They even have gluten free options ! The French onion soup is fantastic and the Rueben was a crowd favorite. The pasta salad, fries, and burger are also good. Went on a Saturday evening and to our surprise did not have to wait. Nice menu and beer selection. My Ruben was delicious. It had the real corn beef big meaty chunks. So so good. If you're in Cooperstown chances are it has something to do with baseball. And since that is probably the case what better place to eat than at the Doubleday Café. There aren't a ton of dining options in town but you certainly won't go wrong here. I stopped in for lunch after visiting the Hall of Fame. Sticking with the theme of American pastimes/traditions I went with the burger and fries. It was a solid burger for a very decent price. I washed it all down with a local, baseball titled, beer. Service was friendly and fast. They have several TVs around the restaurant showing various sports (baseball, of course, being among them). All in all, it was a very pleasant dining experience and I would totally eat here again. read more

After spending the day at the Baseball HOF sitting down and having a good meal is a must. The Doubleday Cafe knocked it out of the park in every way! Our waitress was a little cool at the start, but quickly loosened up and we were bantering back and forth in no time. We were amused by the t shirts the staff wears to the point of having to buy one for ourselves. It was a rainy, chilly day so we shared a crock of French onion soup. It was delicious and really helped to warm us up. My spouse enjoyed the tuna sandwich, which was plentiful. I had the reuben which came with a side of homemade thousand island dressing, which was a delicious addition to the sandwich. Experience: I came here on a Friday afternoon during the winter. There were still a lot of people in town to check out the National Baseball Hall of Fame. There was a ton of parking available in the Double day lot, about a 2 minute walk from Doubleday cafe. Doubleday Cafe is one of the spots you have to stop by when you're in Cooperstown. The restaurant is very cute and only a few steps from Doubleday field and the baseball museum. The interior is well decorated with high ceilings, a large bar in the front, and signs for local beer flights. There is a cute chalkboard of hand written daily specials on the back wall. That's where I ordered from! I ordered the mocha mousse to go, the clam strips with fries special, and a vegetable burger for my friend. He really liked the vegetable burger and the cole slaw that came with it. I liked the clam strips, but its not something you can't find elsewhere. The portions were both very filling. Service was great. Our waitress kept coming by to check up on us. What really blew me away was the mousse. I was deciding between the mousse or the Guinness chocolate cake. I really loved the mousse. We got it to go because we were so full from the meal. The mousse was delicious and the portion was enough for 2 people to share as a dessert. I would 100% get it again. Recommend it?: Yes! Overall in most towns I would give them a 4, but considering it is in Cooperstown the quality and the taste is pretty darn good. It was very clean and we got tremendous service. When in Cooperstown stop here for a bite and a drink. Sit at the bar and visit Geri. If you order a Guiness and if you're lucky, she will delight you will her pouring skills. The food is great. This is my second time here and honestly I haven't been very impressed. I couldn't remember the first time I came but this time it was okay. The French onion soup was good and I do recommend that if you do come here. I got a tuna salad on croissant and it was okay. The idea seemed a lot better than it actually was. The croissant was too soft and would fall apart and then all I could really taste was a big mouthful of tuna. The menu also seems very limited. They have soups, salads, burgers and limited sandwich selection. We were sat right away and our server seemed a little rush but it did seem busy and not sure if they were under staffed but overall she was very nice and my soul came out instantly. The place is small so if you go when it's packed good luck finding a table. I probably will try other places first before coming back here but again the soup was good and it's not a bad place for a quick bite just wasn't really that impressed. read more

My wife and I stopped in here for lunch after touring the baseball hall of fame. They have a nice little place. We got there a bit before the lunch rush, but by the time that we left the place was packed! They serve a wide variety of food- salads, burgers, pasta, etc. and several local craft beer options. There is a bar that you can sit at as well as the tables in the restaurant. I would guess that the total number of tables is 20-25. Our waitress was very nice and service was pretty good. We had grilled chicken salads and it was a nice salad. There are several places to have a lunch/dinner on main street but this is one to give a try. read more

A bustling café near the Baseball Hall of of Fame and Museum, this is a convenient stop for a lunch break (the Hall does allow reentry). The menu is very diverse and deep with just about anything you would want. And imaginative too, not just the standard lunch or bar fare. I had a nice turkey wrap custom made that was delicious and I was offered a broad option of sides. I had the pasta salad which was really good. There is a small bar up front with a few local beer taps with perhaps a national one or two as well. Not many seats along it, didn't seem convenient to plop and hang out more of a convenience thing. Service was really fast, I took a small table for one and my server was very attentive.. There was some desire to keep the tables moving, being up front several folks were discouraged by the wait and moved to another place. A few larger parties simply could not be accommodated with the relatively small dining room and packed clientele (not very many options for large tables). I was looking for a quicker stop to move on with my day so didn't feel rushed or crowded. There's nice baseball memorabilia around the place and a few TVs with games on but game watching isn't their sweet spot. I would make a point to stop here again next stop and for longer visits would like to explore the menu more. Well done! read more

My daughters special of the day was amazing. Lots of strawberries and blueberries. Simple to make. My corn beef hash and sunny side up eggs were terrible, hash was undercooked and my sunny side up egg had no sun showing, they were cooked like hard eggs. The yolk was cooked completely dry. I don't think the cook knows how to cook anything that is semi complicated. I would not recommend eating here if you want a meal that consists of more than one item like French Toast. read more

2 1/2 stars. We rambled into town on the later side and wanted dinner at 9:15pm. Main Street in Cooperstown was dead and this one of the only places open. The staff (and even some of the other customers) could not have been friendlier! Doubleday Cafe has a bit of everything: Burgers, sandwiches, salads, some Mexican food, and daily dinner specials. 13 year old ordered the New England Clam Chowder which was very good. Husband and 12 year old ordered the French Onion Soup. It was a bit salty but big on onions, cheese, and flavor. The entrees we ordered were fair: Cheeseburgers, Crab Cake Sandwich, Grilled Cheese. I would describe it as adequate bar food but nothing I would run back for. I rounded up for the great service. read more
