Amazing food and fantastic service! My husband and I were staying at the Kimpton and decided to grab dinner here and it absolutely didn't disappoint. We were super hungry and ordered the following: - fried avocado wontons - butternut squash soup - watermelon-cress salad - 50/50 burger - shrimp scampi Food came out fast and everything was inarguably 10/10. The soup was very rich and tasty, wontons were crispy and stuffed generously with avocado, burger was juicy and cooked to perfection, and the large, tender shrimp paired deliciously with the pasta. We were absolutely stuffed at the end and finished almost everything! The overall space was very sophisticated and inviting. A chic yet comfortable atmosphere. Highly recommend for a date night or catching up with friends!

Delicious meal and our server Miguel was amazing we both had his recommendation and loved it. Fun atmosphere where you can play games, pool, shuffleboard... We had plenty of tv screens also and watched FIFA futball in a fun venue! Perfect for a fun date night!

Had a great experience at Double Take! Very modern and chic atmosphere. It's the bar in the Hotel Palomar, and you can tell it was recently renovated. I received stellar service from our waitress, Rosa. Cocktails were well-balanced and delicious. We also enjoyed the appetizers. I highly recommend the fish tacos. Food and drinks were affordable. Cocktails are $10 during happy hour, and around $14-16 regular price. This might be my new favorite spot to grab a drink after work!

Honestly, as far as hotel restaurants go, this place was very good. Strong menu with a variety of options for lunch and dinner. Staff was polite. This space mixed in well with the rest of the first floor of the hotel. We ordered a steak sandwich and a chicken Caesar salad. Flavor of the chicken Caesar was good. It could've used more dressing and it would have been nice for the chicken to be cut up and tossed in with the salad. Also would probably be better in a bowl than on a flat plate. The steak sandwich was actually amazing. Very well executed. Steak was done to my liking. Huge cut of meat for a sandwich (it was like a full strip steak). Sauce and veggies were good. Bread could have been thinner. Fries on the side were excellent

The Double Take at the Kimpton Palomar Hotel in Westwood has great food! I stayed here for 12 days and tried almost everything on the menu - the breakfast sandwich, the roasted chicken, steak, salmon tacos, poke, shrimp and lobster pasta, lobster salad, salmon, chicken sandwich, the burger, Caesar salad - all prepared beautifully and delicious! The service staff was so kind and prompt. I highly recommend Double Take!

Beyond incredible! Quality happens at double take by the Kimpton! Had the pleasure of getting helped by the wonderful Rosa, she is the representation of what excellence is!! She made sure my order was spectacular. This makes me look forward to coming back here. The seating options were great. Located inside the kimpton hotel, gorgeous lighting, beautiful bar area, very impressed by their seating and they have fund areas!!!! Like games and a tv, making your experience super enjoyable. I am very impressed by how amazing Rosa is, she makes this place warm and very easy to enjoy. She definitely stood out more than the front desk representatives!!! I am a proud client at the kimpton and Rosa is a perfect example of why i love being a client at the kimpton. Looking forward to coming here again!

Omg! This place is finally opened! We tried coming here twice during the pandemic. 1st thing we asked for is the Smoked Whisky or Old Fashioned. They are not serving it in the summer. Please bring it back in Fall or serve all year long. Robert, the bartender is awesome! He recommended the Desperado and let us try the house made syrup. It's the best cocktail I had in a while. Now I am all looking for Mexican candies! Def coming back!

Egg Sandwich on Biscuit

Double Take is a restaurant in the Kimpton Palomar hotel. We're fans of the Kimpton brand having stayed at a number of their hotels all over the U.S. They're a great boutique hotel chain with benefits you get used to, such as the complimentary wine hour at 5pm. We were here for brunch, far too early to take advantage of the free wine hour, but to be fair we didn't realize when we picked the restaurant that it was located in a Kimpton...so walking in to the lobby was a pleasant and familiar surprise. I had the egg sandwich choosing biscuit for the bread, with white cheddar cheese and no the sausage. It came with hash browns and a salad. The biscuit was perfectly crunchy on the outside and fine on the inside but seemed like it may have been reheated. (Am I the only one who has a sixth sense for when biscuits have been reheated?) It tasted good but the cheese needed more of a presence. The hash browns looked great. You'll definitely salivate looking at them...They were tasty on the inside though, perhaps, a little more greasy than I wanted. There also wasn't salt and pepper at the table which I definitely needed for these.. My wife had the Grain Bowl which we had to send back as it came topped with parmesan cheese...my wife doesn't eat dairy and the menu didn't list parmesan as an ingredient. I'm a big fan of menus that list all the visible ingredients of a dish...so unfortunately we had to send it back to get them to redo it without it. The dish looked beautiful either way, the mushrooms were delicious, but in the end it was very barley heavy...the other ingredients needed more of a presence to add more flavor to this dish. It definitely wasn't busy when we were there so i guess brunch, at least on a Saturday around noon isn't so much of a thing...but they did only have one person working there handling the coffee counter and waiting tables so service, in particular when we had to alert them about the Grain Bowl was a bit slow. On the plus side there's all kinds of fun games to play in adjacent rooms, including a full sized pool table and skeeball, that are all free to use, so you're bound to have a good time when you're there.

I love the little animal paintings on the wall, and the wall made of books. It wasn't too busy the day we went, which was nice since it wasn't too loud. Now the food.... well that's the whole reason I'm writing this! I'm used to having dry af salmon at restaurants but this place blew my mind! I didn't know you were able to have your salmon cooked medium rare or well (like a normal steak), so when I was asked that I was taken back. I believed I chose on having it cooked medium. The whole dish -- flaky salmon, creamy cauliflower smash, well seasoned greens -- was an experience from start to finish. I haven't had a salmon dish that delicious in AGES!! Someone in the kitchen got down that day, so hats off to the chef! My fam was satisfied & they enjoyed their dishes as well. Unfortunately there was a mishap where some appetizers weren't brought out but we resolved that. The waiter was attentive & kind (and really handsome lol) I really wish I remembered his name, but he made the experience memorable as well. He was kind enough to step away from his duties to take a few group photos of my family. I'll def come back again, and next time I'll try their drinks!

I'll preface everything below with the fact that there were only 3 tables of customers in the restaurant and several bar and wait staff. It was NOT busy. The service is terrible. We were greeted and seated quickly. The girl getting our water could not remember if we ordered ice or not. Two trips later, the three of us had water. Our server approached us quickly but we were not ready to order. From this point on, it was like we were invisible. We ordered one appetizer (Guacamole Fresca w/ chips), a burger and the short rib grilled cheese. Our entrees were served ahead of our chips and guacamole when I commented, we were told they were still working on the appetizer. Seems odd that it takes more time to serve chips and guacamole than it does to prepare the entrees. No apology or acknowledgement from any staff members. My beer glass and my son's water glass sat empty for 10 minutes. When we asked for refills, it took nearly another 10 minutes to receive the beverages. Our server NEVER came to check on us. We were NEVER asked how we were doing or if we wanted dessert. When asking for our check, the server had to bypass us twice and then told us that we had to fill out the receipt before the card could be run. In a city with so many dining choices, service is as important as food quality and taste. The new management has work to do or this will be another failed restaurant. We will NOT be returning.

We had grabbed menus while we waited for him and aside from the glare he didn't say anything to us. We told him our reservation information and he walked over to our table and still didn't say a word to us. We were one of the only tables there so it wasn't a case of being busy. Thankfully our waiter was great, friendly, just right amount of service. Support staff cleared plates and kept our water full the entire time as well. We got the borscht, warm goat cheese salad and chicken milanese. The soup was great, as was the chicken, I just wish there was a bit more to the salad than goat cheese medallion, dressed salad leaves and a few slices of radish. We also got the chocolate pavé which came out hot and as our waiter said "still jiggly" and it was great, light with a lovely slightly bitter chocolate and chantilly cream. The space is cute inside the Hammer Museum, table setting and decor was nice as well. Overall we enjoyed the visit but having to deal with the host - he really was the rudest host I've ever encountered - at a place like this, acting like that is not ok, especially when he is the first face you encounter when you come in.

** 18% Service Charge **…read more We took a short walk from UCLA to Lulu and were immediately impressed by the restaurant's inviting, open-air atmosphere and thoughtfully designed space. It was relatively quiet when we arrived, but the dining area began filling up as the lunch hour approached. The menu offered an appealing variety of dishes, with prices that seemed reasonable for a restaurant of this caliber. I started with the strawberry fresca, which was light and refreshing. For my entrée, I chose the sautéed Channel Islands vermilion rockfish, served with fresh cranberry beans and salsa verde. The fish was perfectly cooked, the flavors were beautifully balanced, and the portion was generous. The staff was friendly, attentive, and professional throughout our visit. While the food and service were excellent, one aspect of the experience left a less favorable impression: the 18% service charge, described as a way "to ensure fair, equitable wages for all." I have no objection to paying a premium for quality food, nor do I hesitate to tip generously when service warrants it. However, I find mandatory service charges frustrating, particularly when they blur the distinction between fair employee compensation and gratuities earned through exceptional service. In my view, paying employees fairly should be a fundamental responsibility of the restaurant, reflected transparently in its menu pricing rather than added as a separate charge. This approach diminishes what would otherwise be a very positive dining experience. Overall, Lulu delivers excellent food, a lovely atmosphere, and attentive service. If you're comfortable with the additional 18% service charge, it's certainly a worthwhile lunch destination. For me, though, that policy takes some of the shine off an otherwise enjoyable meal.

My husband opted for a neat Caballito Cerrero Puntas pour (high proof agave spirit). They only had 0.5 Oz for their bottle and only charged for the partial pour. I wasn't initially planning to go, but something told me to give it a try, and I'm glad we did! Upon walking in, we were greeted warmly, and I immediately loved the atmosphere. It's a classy, intimate lounge with live jazz, comfortable seating, and a sophisticated but relaxed vibe. We sat on the beautiful blue couch while waiting for a table, and the overall ambiance felt perfect for a date night. We had already eaten dinner, so we came specifically for cocktails. My partner ordered a specialty cocktail from the menu and really enjoyed it, while I opted for a classic Negroni, which was solid. Our server was very new, only on her second or third day, but she was warm, polite, and helpful when answering our questions. I appreciated her friendliness. The cocktail menu: I think there's a good foundation here, but I'd love to see a little more variety, whether through seasonal offerings or more adventurous flavor combinations. When I visit a cocktail lounge, I like to try what makes that particular establishment unique. While the drinks looked thoughtfully crafted, nothing on the specialty menu really called my name that evening, so I stuck with a classic Negroni. I don't mind paying $20+ for a cocktail when the drink and experience justify the price. However, at that price point, I want something that genuinely excites me. I wasn't interested enough in the menu to order a second drink. The biggest hiccup was the payment process. When we were seated and ready to order, we were asked for a credit card to place a hold. We weren't opposed to the policy, but things became confusing when my partner's card apparently wasn't going through on the restaurant's end, while his bank notifications showed that a $100 hold had been placed on his account. We were ordering just two drinks, so naturally, we were confused. We tried to work through the issue and asked if there was another way to handle the payment so we could move forward. Our server said she would speak with the manager, who would come over to assist, but the manager never came to speak with us. Instead, we waited approximately 20-25 minutes before finally receiving our drinks. We weren't trying to be difficult. We were on a date, wanted to enjoy a couple of cocktails, and were happy to cooperate with the establishment's policies. It just felt like an awful lot of friction for what should have been a simple transaction. By the time the drinks arrived, we were ready to move on and enjoy our evening. There was also an awkward interaction toward the end when our server asked whether we wanted separate checks. In isolation, it's a perfectly reasonable question, but given that we'd already navigated the payment confusion together, the timing felt a little off. Overall, I genuinely like this place. The atmosphere, live jazz, and classy lounge setting are the biggest selling points. It's the kind of place where you want to settle in, enjoy a good cocktail, and have a conversation. I'd love to see more creativity in the cocktail offerings, clearer communication around the card authorization policy, and more proactive follow-through when an issue arises. We would return because the ambiance really is that appealing. However, given the cocktail prices and our experience with the payment process, I'd be a little hesitant about making this a regular spot. Great atmosphere, beautiful live jazz, and plenty of potential. With a smoother service experience, this could easily become a favorite date-night lounge!
