The draw of Double Eagle is the decor, imported and reinstalled from The Drake hotel, it's lovely and otherworldly from the perspective of Southern New Mexico. The service is the disappointment. The greeter strained to smile and in unenthusiastic monotone reluctantly agreed to let us sit in the lounge area next to bar for our lunch. Our party of 4 was then given one drink menu so we asked for three more. Then we were delivered one food menu so we asked again for three more. Each ask seemed to frustrate the waitress. Finally the waitress memorized our order, she didnt write it down. Someone in my party commented that they were always impressed when people could memorize orders like that. A different server delivered the food, the order was entirely mixed up for example she server didnt know which of the four burgers was the medium rare one. The burgers that should have been dry or had onion rings were the opposite and served with fries. We gave the server a couple of corrections limiting them to just what was necessary. The waitress returned to recite our order to us aloud, she was challenging us, telling us that she was right. This was over the top and really wrecked the meal, a defiant person who wants to have a fight? Really!? read more

Hit this place up with the in-laws. Now, normally I can handle the in-laws all day long but this place.... No beuno! I was greeted and offered a seat in their "lounging area" which is where all of your grandparents furniture ends up. This wasn't your up kept vintage furniture, this was furniture that had been nursed along past the point of death. You sit in the numerous bar stools, wing back and Victorian style couches and are immediately reminded of their age. Getting to the food and service. Our server was nice and polite yet wasn't very attentive after taking our orders. We ordered as variety off the menu- a party of 5. The food was marginal at best. I would put your best buddy that can actually cook against these guys and wager large amount of money on your buddy. Even if he has been drinking all day. Fish was atrocious. Absolutely should not smell like fish when served. Medium rare steaks haven't been sitting for 20 minutes and, well, well done. Potatoes, no matter how they were prepared were over cooked. Cold scallops. I may run out of space to list all of they wonderful deficiencies. The positives? The margaritas are pretty good. If you are fine with " hey, what's the happy hour all day? A dollar off!!" And still being charged full tilt, this is your place. If you are okay with dropping $700 on a party of 5 ( fair warning: booze included) and being charged 10% for using your credit card, look. I further! They want your business all day and happily serve you garbage. 1/10 won't be back unless I am drunk and want to have a margarita. Even in a college age drunken stupor, my tiny little brain would blink in faint neon glow of "REMEMBER THE FLEECING!" And I would find another place. read more

Had dinner sitting at the bar at Double Eagle on a business trip to Las Cruses. Bartender was busy and I was just a guy at the end of the bar so didn't get a lot of attention. Ordered a steak and bake potato and a salad. Salad was slow to come out and the food was right behind it before I could get through 1/2 the salad. Food was warm, not hot including the potato. Potato was old like it had been sitting around for a while and the steak was OK but nothing memorable. The reason for a 1 star review is someone added an additional $10 to my bill. My bill was $56 and a $10 tip (20%) but my credit card was charged $76 instead of $66. Maybe they thought I wouldn't notice but its a company card and my charges have to match my receipt. I've called 2 times over 3 days and was told that Chelsea in accounting would look into it but she was busy each time I called. I leave a message with with the person who answers the phone but I get no return call. I'll dispute the charge with the credit card company but beware of extra charges. We used to live in Las Cruces and loved the Double Eagle. We returned to Las Cruces for the first time in 5 years to explore retirement options. The first place we went to was the Double Eagle. I ordered my usual Grey Goose martini. My husband ordered a drink and 3 appetizers. When we got the bill, the bartender had added a fourth appetizer that we did not order. She did remove it from our bill after I returned to the restaurant and pointed it out to her. What I can't get over is that they charged $22 for my martini! I've ordered the same cocktail in our current city of Phoenix, and in San Diego and other major cities, and I've NEVER paid so much for a martini. The bartenders were very snotty about this. We had left a good tip when we paid the first time but not after I had to return. We will not be back or recommend the restaurant to visitors. read more

We were asked to leave with the kids, only had two and they were well behaved. We were baffled by the request. I have never been in an establishment where people with kids have been asked to leave. Traveled from Florida to visit family. Decided to take family to eat here. Steaks were not cooked per our request of med-rare (they came out tough and med-well). To top it off the steaks came out cold??? They also ran out of about 6-7 types of beers. I would definitely try another steakhouse in town (Outback cooks them better) and would not recommend this one at all. Spend your money elsewhere. Super cool place to visit! The food is fabulous and our waitress was very attentive! We had a private room for our group of 6, and it felt intimate, and quiet even though I had children there. But I loved it because my kids could act like kids and not annoy others! Drinks were tasty Appetizer-green chili cheese wontons with pineapple salsa! Super yum! I had Chilean Seabass, super tasty flavors and I ate every bite!! They take pride in the temp of their steaks! Really well done! And we enjoyed watching the waitress flambé filets and for dessert we all shared a bananas foster. We all left in love with this unique place! read more

Just had dinner and it was amazing. The restaurant was very calm and not a lot of people but it was Saturday around 6 and most of the stores in Mesilla were closed. The wait staff was great! Essence was super friendly and helpful but also kept us entertained with a few ghost stories. We ordered the duck, the salmon and the chicken mesilla (there were 3 of us) and they were all delicious and we ended with the lemon cheesecake which was incredible! We asked if we could visit other areas and the gentlemen serving our water (Christian I believe) was kind enough to give us a tour and tell us the history of the restaurant, we didn't expect our evening would turn out to be an unforgettable and memorable experience. Food is average. Service is okay. Ambiance is super nice. Problems are over charges even when menu prices are listed (was told the prices changed and they hadn't updated menu), charged full price on Happy Hour All Day (no discount reflected on bill) and without any notice there is an up charge for using a credit card (rude and why?). Food again is just okay. We were there for lunch and I orders the Green Chile Chicken Alfredo (sauce was very thin and watery). My husband ordered the Stuffed Pablano which he said was okay but not filling. He is dairy and gluten free so this was literally the only thing the waiter recommended. He could not get the sides that normally come with the meal because they were not safe for him. We had margaritas and they were okay (not great). We like a traditional margarita with out added sugar and they do not have that as an option. read more

Our dinner order took over thirty minutes and was missing an order. When it arrived it was still missing items on the plate. My $30 dollar steak was well done after I had to tell the waitress how I wanted it. She said I forgot to ask you and then it came out Well Done n Dry. Three out of five tabs were wrong. Had the same dinner as last time. My steak was either fatty or tough and chewy, couldn't eat it, didn't eat it. My mashed potatoes had no flavor whatsoever, a little salt and butter would've been nice. My salad was so underdressed, I think the chopped tomatoes had dressing but the rest of it was plain greens. we have enjoyed Double Eagle for the last several year, always anticipating a delicious meal featuring a well-cooked steak. the only time we've been disappointed was our last visit on February 19. we arrived early - dinner service does not begin until 5pm -but our waiter graciously brought us the steakhouse menus. I ordered the 'baseball' cut of sirloin, medium, with a baked potato. my husband ordered the petite filet with steak/french fries. my steak was cooked well, although the 'baked' potato (perhaps microwave), while cooked through, was so hard I could not mash it with a fork before adding toppings and had to settle for cutting it into chunks. my husband's filet, unfortunatemy, was sadly undercooked, to the point of being a bloody pulp at the center. very disappointing meal at a restaurant we have enjoyed for years. Stopped in here randomly while walking around Old Mesilla with my mom. They were having all day happy hour for Tuesday which was great because we only planned on getting a drink outside because the sun was shining. The patio where we sat was cozy and had the perfect amount of sun but also shady spots if you don't want the direct sunlight. We both ordered margaritas on the rocks, I ordered one with mezcal which was perfectly made. I noticed they also had a large variety of other cocktails like martinis and mules as well as a full beer list which is great to know for the future. We ended up getting hungry and splitting the sliders which were phenomenal! Our server Nicole was extremely prompt and provided exceptional service. Had reservations for last Sunday night for a family meal with my mother, sister, brother-in-law, niece, and nephew. Arrived at 5:35 for a 5:30 reservation. We had a very nice waiter, named Anthony. But from the get-go, this did not bode well. They had never turn the lights on at the entrance even after we ask them to. We sat there for four hours waiting for our meals. We found out some time into it after appetizers were served they had a banquet. Why would you accept reservations in a restaurant if you knew you had short staff and a big party for a banquet? They only called and the manager at 7 PM to try to solve the problems, named Natalie. I had a sit down discussion with Natalie. That desert wasn't enough to be had on the house, and we had no intentions of waiting another hour for that. Granted, the food was good , my filet mignon was cooked perfectly. It could've been warmer, and they served all of us aside my mother, for whom I had to go to the kitchen to ring some bells. After my discussion with Natalie and a phone call, she was able to reduce the bill by half so instead of $400 it was $200. I suggested she get permission to give my sister and brother-in-law a gift certificate for another meal if they ever expected to see them back, and I provided his phone number and address so that the owner could reach out to him. This kind of poor planning and service is an excusable. You don't except reservations when you already have a full house and can't stack it properly. The owner never called my brother-in-law... A fair amount of this rating is due to the unique and atmospheric interior. You have lots of choices - a bar that looks like a time machine from the 1880's, a courtyard, a large elegant room and a few smaller romantic rooms clustered at one end. This is a "special occasion" place worth getting dressed up for. We were not dressed up, however, and yet we were still treated like valued customers. The surprise hit was the green chile soup. Not too spicy, but with a great deal of complexity. The wontons with pineapple salsa were good - better than I expected. The chicken mesilla had a bit too much going on but the chicken had very good flavor. I love scampi and I love table service - so I got the scampi. The shrimp were surprisingly tasty and fresh - but the dish itself was not really scampi and the tableside cooking was a bit odd. The shrimp were flambeed, then left sitting in the pan while the server got the spaghetti from the kitchen. It was covered with cheese (not part of scampi) and she just poured the shrimp over it - instead of giving it a final heating up in the pan with the sauce. It was okay - but those shrimp deserved better. For dessert, we split the vanilla sundae with pecans and chocolate sauce - the pecans really added a lot of flavor. I would go back for the steak - but only after having drinks at the bar. read more

The first time I came here, I had ordered the bbq pork belly tacos in a hard shell tacos and it was amazing followed by a cucumber Margarita, salted rim and I can't explain how refreshing it tasted. I liked my meal a lot so I came back but this time, I was pretty disappointed in my meal. I ordered the bbq pork belly's again, but instead of a hard shell, I got flour tortillas and hardly bbq sauce. The tacos were really dry and the rice seemed like it wasn't cooked all the way, had a tough feel to them. Overall my dish was Dry and bland. We also ordered a side of jalapeño poppers, which were absolutely delicious but I don't understand we only got 3 pieces for almost $8. Phenomenal, spicy and sweet, wish we had more on the plate. But wait we have a bottle twice the price for you? We ask the manager "Damon" if he could at least match the price of the cheaper wine sense they were out of the other two. He said he had to ask the bar manager ? We never heard back from him. I ended up order wine by the glass and stopping him after 20 minutes for him to tell me he hasn't heard back from bar manager ? I never had a manager ignore me like that or not show and regret they couldn't help us. This man needs to be washing dishes, not managing a restaurant. We went in for a couple margaritas and a few appetizers. I asked if we could sit on the couches and the bartender said yes, have a seat and we'll be with you in a few minutes. After waiting 10 minutes with 2 bartenders and 2 hostesses ignoring us we found our way back into the bar hoping to get service. We sat down and went up to the bar to order (greeted by a less than friendly bartender - she wasn't that busy either ). We finally got our order in and a very pleasant friendly bartender started her shift took over our margaritas and orders. She was super friendly, attentive and made us feel welcome. The original bartender passed our table and asked if everything was ok and I said yes, but we'd like to order more appetizers ... she quickly strolled by and said ok .. let me know when you're ready (I was ready, that's why I asked ). Anyhow , the friendly bartender stopped back by and asked if we needed anything and we were able to place our order with her. The margaritas were good and very reasonable. Now onto the food. The burger/sliders had good flavor, but were well done and the bread was hard , we had to pick off the top bun. The onion rings were mediocre and very bready. The wontons were mostly fried wontons with hardly any filling. The firecracker shrimp was delicious and the cocktail sauce was spicy and very tasty. We decided we'd go back for margaritas in the future, but judging by the quality of the appetizers we will skip trying eating dinner there in the future. read more
