Lamb Souvlaki and Greek Style ribs with lasagna
Mary C.

My friend raves about Double DD Pizza for their roasted lamb, Greek food and pizza so this west side neighbourhood restaurant has been on my to-try-list for a long time. We gather a group of six and had dinner here this weekend. The gang all agreed with me that there were hits and misses. My final verdict, I didn't loved Double DD Pizza as much as my friend. The hits: great customer service, big portions, affordable drinks/prices, relaxing atmosphere and good Greek salad and roasted lamb. The misses: some lamb souvlaki pieces were moist but the outer ones were dry, very dry Greek style ribs and unseasoned lasagna. Double DD Pizza didn't wow me this weekend but I will come back to try their pizza and maybe to give the lamb souvlaki another try.

Baked spaghetti

They have some consistent greats, so my family and I find ourselves here when we want some Greek. This time around, we ordered a roast lamb plate, a small no. 9 pizza (pepperoni, mushrooms, green peppers), and a baked spaghetti. The roast lamb is a good size and cooked well - nice and soft, though the outer bits are a little drier. The pizza was also really good, with the perfect crust, in my opinion. The baked spaghetti was as expected, but you really can't go wrong with their meat sauce. Their salads were light, and the vinaigrette that came with the garden salad was a little sweet. I will say that their pita and bread didn't quite hit this time around, though it isn't a real dealbreaker. The meal ended up being around $25 a person after tax and tip, so if you're looking for a solid plate of food in the neighbourhood, I would recommend. As always, the restaurant was quieter, and the servers were great. It's not a bustling place, but it's definitely a neighbourhood staple.

Pizza crust was hard and dense

We just had the worst service, worst attitude and bad hard crust tasteless pizza in Vancouver. We bought the pizza by take out and when we called to let them know that the pizza was not like we had many times in the past and requested either a new one to replace or have some thing else made instead. They were very hesitant on the phone and asked us to bring back the pizza to show them. We then drove back and took the whole pizza less 1.5 pieces back. To our surprise and shocked that they were unfriendly and refused to replace the pizza and basically said too bad that you didn't like the pizza and just took it back and tossed in the garbage can. We a totally flabbergasted that this restaurant will treat regular customers like that with this kind of horrendous service and attitude. We have even referred friends and family to this place in the past. Well, after this unheard of experience, Double DD has lost a few regular customers and this will be the last time we will be coming to this place.

This is our go-to Greek restaurant for family meals. The lamb is excellent and tastes like I'm in Greece. The family who owns and runs DDs are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed and family friendly. The service is quick if you want it to be, and unhurried if you are there for the evening. We often end up here when we haven't thought about what to make at home!

The service was also great, with multiple people checking in on us. The corkage, at $20, is very reasonable and the restaurant even comp'ed our tiramisu! We will miss it once it is gone. The food was quite decent. I thought the prices were a bit inflated for just pasta, but the portion size was pretty massive -- most of us took leftovers to go. The sauces in general were a bit bland and the pasta was definitely cooked to beyond al dente, which isn't my preference for dried pasta. That said, the toppings were generous, especially for the linguine crab that I ordered (would highly recommend!). Come by before they close permanently!

We got the linguine puttanesca which was tangy and a little bland but with the olives and shrimp the dish finished up well. The spaghetti carbonara was perfect. Creamy but not too heavy I wish it had more bacon but it was delicious all around. The daily special veal was also amazing. The veal was juicy and perfectly seasoned and paired with the creamy pasta was perfect. We ended with the panacotta which was fresh, fruity and light! Will definitely be back!!

Excellent food and wonderful service! Our family had a great experience and loved the ambiance.read more

My friends and I recently shared a few dishes here, and while the flavors were truly impressive,…read morethe portion sizes left us wanting more. We started with the complimentary bread, which was a total highlight. Each person gets a fresh slice that has an incredible crust and a soft, pillowy center--dipping it into the oil and vinegar was the perfect way to start the meal. For our mains, the Gnocchi Asparagi e Funghi was my favorite - the gnocchi themselves were clearly handmade and had a great texture that didn't feel heavy. The earthy mushrooms and asparagus worked really well with the parmesan cream, which was rich but didn't overpower the other flavors. The Squid Ink Linguine ai Frutti di Mare was also solid; the lobster bisque base gave it a deep, savory saltiness that coated the clams, prawns, and scallops perfectly without making the dish feel too "fishy." We also tried the Candele Al Ragù D'Anatra. The duck ragu was tender and savory, and the combination of the parmesan fondue and aged asiago added a nice, sharp saltiness that made every bite really satisfying. Everything we ate was seasoned perfectly and tasted fresh, it's just a shame the portions were so small because the flavors were definitely there. The service was excellent and very attentive; I especially appreciated that they were constantly on top of refilling my water throughout the night. The ambience also hit the right note, making it a great spot for a night out. However, the portions are definitely on the smaller side and aren't super filling. Even though every dish tasted amazing, we weren't full by the end of the meal, so it's something to keep in mind if you're arriving with a big appetite.

The seafood ravioli was tasty and I'd have it again. The pappardelle was decent although didn't have as much depth or complexity of flavour as it could've. The bruschetta, which was kind of like an open faced sandwich - a spread on bread with some prosciutto on top (no tomatoes in case that's what you're expecting!), was pretty meh and I wouldn't order it again. Service was nice enough. It's a cute, cozy spot in Gastown. Overall, it was just fine but given the abundance of great Italian restaurants in town I probably would go elsewhere when craving pasta.

The restaurant was cute, cozy, and could seat us right away so we decided to give it a try. We got the poached pear salad and enjoyed it! The pears were delicious and a very refreshing salad. It did come with burrata on top which was a bit disappointing since it wasn't gooey at all. For our mains, we split the pesto rigatoni and the special which was also a rigatoni with white wine, capers, shrimp and lemon. First off, the noodles are delicious on both dishes. They are clearly handmade in the best way possible. Very tender, delicate, and almost melt in your mouth. The pesto dish was perfect but again the burrata on top was disappointing since it was sort of tough/dry and not gooey. The special dish was very good but the lemon was quite strong. Initially it was a bit too much but it did grow on you over time and I did like the dish. We ended with a tiramisu and while it was delicious, there wasn't much of the bread/cake/cookie part as it was mostly cream. Overall, it was fun to try a new place but I expected a more for the price point. For $35 per plate plus salad and dessert it was a very expensive dinner and we weren't full.

With so many new Italian restaurants popping up locally and the competition being quite strong, I think at this price point there are other places you might also want to explore. I had secured a weekday lunch reservation a few weeks prior in anticipation, which I highly recommend. The staff was incredibly friendly when we arrived, and we were seated moments later. To start I ordered the Fried Cauliflower and Sourdough bread based on other recommendations I had seen, which both lived up to the hype.
