This is a thirty year old restaurant that looks like the focus is on Greek food, so that's what we had for lunch. It was just okay. The spanakopita was probably the best item we had. The first time we went here we waited for ten minutes and no one ever showed up form the kitchen, but the second time the service was good. They have quite a few wines by the glass at good prices, although I wish they had more Greek and Santorini wines beyond just retsina.. My Australia Pinot Grigio was good. The pizza here is amazing as always and still really good value for what you pay! The Olympia is an authentic Greek restaurant and has been a long time. The ambiance reflects that. It looks and feels like a traditional Greek restaurant because IT IS a traditional Greek restaurant-and one of Vancouver's originals from the 60's! The souvlaki dish is still good but alas inflation has raised the price of all of them to more than I remember. Pizza here is still a great value. Service is very good here. I would say excellent. Recently went for dinner after not having been here for many years and as expected, still the same great location and taste! Ordered a chicken souvlaki, came out perfectly cooked and tasted juicy and delicious. Rice pilaf and Greek potato were so good too. Finally, the tzatziki and Greek salad with feta was incredibly fresh and flavorful. Overall, wonderful dish. Service was also nice. The only downsides preventing a 5-star review: - Price: $26 +tax +tip for a single chicken souvlaki dish is really getting up there in cost... too much for me to come back regularly - Pita bread was thin and compact, not puffy and airy like some pitas I've had at Greek restaurants - Outdoor seating on the street is not the greatest, due to slope of street sloping the table and chairs. Nothing can be done about that I suppose Overall, excellent tasting food but due to high cost will unfortunately not be able to return frequently... special occasions only, really. It was late and my crew was hungry. Somehow we forgot that on a Monday night, many eating establishments in Vancouver are closed. We went by two different places and zip, nada, out of luck! Ah, but not Olympia Pizza! Our host was just grand and I was stoked to learn that in addition to pizza there were a number of Greek appetizers and main courses. This made choosing difficult with late night hunger pangs, but it was worth it: The appetizers, especially the variety of dips with pita, along with main courses (We had everything from pizza to Spanakopita) was solid! Heck, we even dared something sweet...a Greek treat which I can't recall the name but it was outstanding. It had been a very long time since I had their food. I should have waited longer. Delivery order so that may have been part of the problem. Order partially wrong but of course didn't realize until too late and delivery person had left. Caesar salad - solid 3/10, very overpriced for heavily drenched lettuce of which a lot was brown. Added croutons and Parmesan at home to try and save with ok results. Pizza - I've had a lot of gas station and convenience store pizza that would beat this. Lukewarm at best, crust was soggy and off tasting. Can't comment on sauce as I couldn't taste any. Extra cheese was where? Cheese tasted like chemicals/preservatives. Flavours were decent - but largely inedible. I hate wasting food but I wouldn't even offer this to a starving person. What a waste of $60 and so called "food". At least I know and never again. Ate dinner tonight at Olympia and was looking forward to the delicious food that I remember from my many years of frequenting the restaurant. Sadly, it was a sorry affair. I am in my senior years and have been coming to your restaurant for over 50 years mostly ordering a small beef souvlaki. However, the dinner menu doesn't cover a small souvlaki any more and the large one is too big for a senior appetite so I shared a large one with my husband. Unfortunately, it came on one plate and we struggled to divide it up. It didn't include much beef, but an awful lot of rice. Absolutely not the value for money that we are accustomed to at Olympia. My son has been driving me nuts for pizza and so I thought what better place to go to than a spot I used to go to as a kid!? I loved Olympia pizza then as I do now. I live in nyc and classic ny pizza are the big @$$ flat pies which you get tired of eating all the time. The pizza here is like deep dish and we asked for it to be crispy so they cooked it longer than normal. My sis and I shared a small Hawaiian (the bomb) and my son tore up a small pepperoni with salami. You cant go wrong ordering pizza from here as soon as it's served up it smells so freaking good. we ordered calamari which was soooo soo soooo good it just tasted fresh. It wasn't greasy at all and it battered perfectly. I grew up eating calamari with tZaziki none of this marinara dip type $hit. We all three cleaned the plate off. We also had Greek salad which was done exactly how a Greek should be served a Greek salad. Again none of this iceberg lettuce garbage that most places serve it. Believe it or not, I dined at this same restaurant in the early 1970's. Yes, that makes me old as a tree.... however, I think it says something about this establishment's staying power that it's still going strong over 50 years later. I went early with a friend to take advantage of Happy Hour pricing and we sat outside on the patio where my dog was welcome. We both ordered a couple of glasses of wine, ridiculously inexpensive. Then we shared a Caesar salad and there was plenty for both of us. My friend chose a pizza with 2 vegetable toppings and I had one with shrimp and artichokes. The toppings were very, very generous and the crust, while not thin, was crispy and delicious. As far as the service went, it was five-star. Our host, Renee, could not have been friendlier or more attentive. When we left, we had already walked one and a half blocks when the busboy, Logan, came charging after us with my dog's water bowl, which I had inadvertently left behind. This is a few steps from my house. I have to say I love the pizza here its so delicious. Very generous on the cheese and the ingredients. We ordered the house special large pizza and love it so much that I am already craving for it even though just had it yesterday. Yes no kidding. It was that good. This place is always busy but again its not that big though. Its been around ever since I remember. My mom said when she was young it was already in the corner. And she used to live in the hood when she was a teenage and would love to eat there the yummy souvalaki. Must be so good or else why would she still remember. Decor is nice and clean. Greek food in Vancouver is usually quite solid, and this place is no exception. Very delicious home-style cooking. Parking is available on the side streets a blocks or two away. Watched the meter maids tag several cars directly in front of the restaurant. Special mention goes to their outdoor patio. Great for the summer months. And the best part? It's on the E side of the building. In the afternoon and evenings, it means the entire area is in the shade! Staff were friendly and professional. Pricing is average, at $12-20 for most dishes. The sangria here is one of the tastiest I've had in a long time - it's just the right mix in terms of flavour. Really liked the pineapple chunks inside too. The only bad thing that happened is that the mixing spoon literally broke apart when I was stirring, so I had to pick wood bits out of the mix. Salad is a bit on the plain side - it's literally just chopped lettuce in this case. Garlic bread - a bit too baked - even the inside was crunchy. Ribs and spaghetti - beautiful. Meat was cooked just right - it peeled off the bones easily, but wasn't tough at all. The spaghetti tasted a lot like Chef Boyardee (this is a good thing). Reminds me of eating at home as a kid. Roast lamb - quantity of meat could've been a bit bigger, especially when compared to some of the competition out there. But it was also cooked just right. Special mention. I've been here a few times now and am careful with what I order. The food can be really hit or miss but my friends like it because it's always relatively quiet in the restaurant so it's easy to talk. On my last visit I had the calamari dinner platter which was calamari, greek salad, and potatoes for $20. I think the website menu says all these house specials come with rice, but this one obviously didn't though rice would've made it too carb heavy. It's little pricey but the calamari was really good, light and crispy, well seasoned so you can eat it without the tzatziki (which is not good, oddly heavy). The potatoes were just okay and the salad was lackluster. In the past, I remember enjoying the beef souvlaki and moussaka, but found the pizzas not to my taste at all. We were a party of two last night, at a small table, and barely started our first course when the server announced the main course 'had come up' and wanted to cram everything on the table at once. We declined, preferring to enjoy our food and not be rushed. when we were done, the main course was dumped down, totally cold, and we were left with no water or the drinks we had ordered. Well it has been a few years since I've been to this place. An the pizza and souvlakia hasn't seem to change. Like most of my review on here I have the habbit of doing my may have dishes and I do my weigh in based on these dishes. What's the point of reviewing food if you don't have a bench mark. For me the best greek bench make has been these three dishes calamari, tzatzik/homous and chicken souvlaki. On their own many can say that the ate so easy to do but it's surprising how many good attempts fail. For the Olympia I ordered the following Calamari, Chicken souvlakia and an iced tea. My partner had the feticini with meat sauce (I was kind of laughing on this one but I sill love him;) ) The calamari was perfectly cooked and the taziki was rich with no hunt of mayo (a review that I should have written about a Greek place cutting corners). It was perfectly seasoned and at the table within 5 minutes, not giving it the opportunity to become squid rubber. My main course was a little slow but well worth the wait. As many have been exposed to bad souvlakia in this city I mine was perfectly done and moist and juicy. As for the pasta... Lets say just eat Greek food at this Greek restaurant. I was trying to go to Spin on Broadway only to realize a Thai food restaurant took over that location. Hence, we ended up here after wondering around a short bit. We were seated right away. However, the table we were seated had salt all over the table. We flagged the hostess' attention to wipe down our table. We ordered calamari, moussaka and a small order of beef souvlaki. Calamari and pita arrived first. Calamari was perfectly fried. I noticed the dipping sauce was in a take out sauce container. It made the dining experience feel very casual. Moussaka and beef souvlaki arrived after and tasted heavenly! Each bite of the moussaka was buttery. The beef souvlaki was beautifully seasoned. Plus, we received another serving of pita and garlic bread to go with our entrees. There was too much food! I think we were served dinner portions during lunch. We definitely did not leave hungry. We ordered an Olympia pizza and a beef souvlaki and they were adequate to share among the three of us. Pizza crust had the right amount of crunchiness, served with fresh ingredients. Beef could be a little more tender but the sides were delicious. The blaclava cake had the right amount of sweetness and not too sweet. I think this Olympia Pizza has been here for like 100 years! Ok maybe not 100 years but I remember coming here a ton of years ago! Anyways what's old is new again right? It was super hot in the restaurant. I don't think they have air con... Sorry but ceiling fans won't do on a night like this! We talked to the waitress and she was able to seat us outside on the patio. Thank goodness! We just shared a main course (lamb chops) and 2 appies. Overall, the food is pretty decent, and the portions are generous. Our waitress was really good. She came by often to fill our water and ensure we were enjoying our experience. I don't know I'm not a big Greek food fan. And pizza is not my fav for dinner so I don't know if I would be coming back in the near future, but I do respect this restaurant and the food and staff. One of our favourite Greek restaurants in the city! We've dined in before, but like getting take out every now and then when passing through the area. They give you a 10% discount on takeout and it's usually about 20 minutes for it to be ready. Lots of street parking in the area although it can be busy and it's mostly metered. The calamari is the favourite, but we also enjoy the chicken and lamb souvlaki. The rice is the best and love how the lemon flavour in the potatoes. We tried the BBQ Ribs this time and upgraded the pasta to baked pasta - way too much food! Our order came with pita bread and garlic bread and it's best to eat those the same day or else they get rock hard. Good value for the food and it's all delicious! Came here on a Saturday night with my partner and my uncle and we had a blast. Pitchers of beer were on special so we shared lager around the table. We started with the calamari which was delicious and a perfect size for 3 people as an appetizer. My uncle and I both had the lamb souvlaki - unbelievably tender - paired with rice, lemon baked potato, and of course, the perfect Greek salad. Something else I loved was that they offer small and large portions for most of their menu - much appreciated! My partner had the chorizo and mushroom pizza which he says had a perfect cheese to crust to sauce ratio. None of us had leftovers because we couldn't help but finish everything on the plate! This restaurant tries hard; but there is only so far you can go with tons of complimentary bread baskets to fill up on while all the plates are loaded with rice, a small portion of greek salad and ordinary potatoe wages that were advertised as lemony Greek potatoes but there was nothing lemony about them. The avgolemono lemon egg drop drop soup with chicken and rice was decent ($5.95), the fasolada soup was so-so, both needed a lot Of lemon on the side to make it work. Dolmathes appetizer consisting of stuffed grape leafs with rice and ground beef over hollandaise ($8.95) was overpriced for the portion and tasted so-so. Our plates, the large chicken souvlaki skewer ($18.95) was very skimpy on the chicken and filled with starch. Steak and lasagna was decent and nothing Greek about it. I'm going to get my bias out of the way first: I think Olympia Pizza is the best pizza place in Vancouver, hands down. Its how they make the pizza, it's all in the layering. I usually order the pepperoni and green peppers pizza; the entire pizza is layered twice over with a slab of pepperoni and then finished off with a generous helping of thick mozzarella. No piece meal circles of meat here. Do yourself a favor and order a pizza here. You can't go wrong with an order of hummus or chicken skaras either, but treat yourself with a pizza. It seems that we have a lot of neighbours who grew up in this neighbourhood and never left. When we speak to them about food they always speak very highly about Olympia Pizza which has been a fixture in this part of town since the 60's. We decided that it was high time we pay them a visit. Unlike a lot of restaurants from their era, it appears that they have made an effort to have the decor at least match the present millenium. We were seated immediately at the last available table which was nice for a Friday at 7:30 but the service wasn't quite as swift for the rest of the evening. It is also really loud in there but that was not unexpected. As soon as I saw the nice selection of greek food on the menu I decided quickly on the souvlaki dinner. My husband opted for a 3 topping pizza. My dinner, which had the souvlaki on a bed of rice pilaf and greek salad, tzatziki and a pita was a lot of food and a whole lot of delicious! I was able to cajole a slice of pie from my better half and was not quite as enamored. Given my never-ceasing obsessive love of cheese I can't even believe that my brain can formulate this thought but I really think the pizza had too much cheese on it. The overabundance of cheese threw off the balance of sauce and toppings and put a lot of strain on that really good crust. This is not however a mortal sin and we will definately be back to give it another try. read more

Olympia pizza is a simile for me. It is like (or as) an old friend that you've spent many amazing times with, but most days are failry average. I've experienced heavenly meals which have almost brought me to tears-food I am sure that Jesus himself prepared. And then due to myself setting the bar so high, many meals have been cooked by the hands of mere mortals. The service has always been friendly and i've never had to wait in line. I especially enjoy the Greek music. Keep your ears open for the Nickleback cover "how you remind me". Let it be known that I am not a Nickleback fan. In my opinion, Olympia has the potential to be the best greek house in all of Vancouver. The only thing they lack is consistency. That's the only reason I can't give them 5 stars.
