One of my favorite coffee spots when I'm looking for somewhere to work during the week. The coffee is consistently great and I really love the overall vibe here. My go to is the sunburn with cardamom cream. Perfection. They also carry Neighbor Bakehouse pastries. The space has a cozy, understated feel that makes it easy to settle in and get some work done without feeling like you're sitting in a traditional office or overly busy coffee shop (while it does get busy). I've spent quite a few work days here and it's always been a comfortable place to bring my laptop, grab a coffee and get things done. On one side of the cafe, it's a section that sells clothes by the brand, Yardsale. The staff are friendly and the service is always great. The coffee is definitely the main draw for me, but the atmosphere is what keeps me coming back. 5 stars for friendly staff and beautiful space, but only 2-3 stars for the seasonal Iced Banana Latte. I was expecting at least some banana flavor given it costs $9.00 ($9.78 with tax!), so I was really disappointed in the drink. It tasted like a plain regular, sweet latte. I wish I had read the other recent Yelp reviews before I ordered it. Maybe they should've used banana milk or banana puree. Though I bet I'd bump my review up to 4 stars had I tried their chocolate chip cookie slice. It looked really good. However, I noticed that strangely, the printed menu says the cookie slice is $5.88, but the display case says it's $5.00 (pics attached). Maybe a price hike is coming... This place is really popular, so if you come on a weekend morning, be prepared to wait outside (it's very sunny) in line for a while. There is one large communal table where people were working on laptops. Free Wi-Fi is available. There's seating by the windows in the front. Ok let's start by saying, the gluten free goods are really good. The cookie and the brownie are a 10/10. Especially the brownie. Pretty amazing and fudgy. I'd come here again for that. Cute space and good service. I must mention I came here on a weekday, and although the place was full, there wasn't any lines to order (like when we tried on the weekend and left because the line was wrapping outside) If you truly like coffee, this isn't the place to come and definitely not worth your money. Since it's pretty crazy to come here on the weekends, I ordered two drinks. A regular cappuccino and a iced "banana latte" The cap tasted like water. Not creamy and nutty like it should be. And the "banana latte" tasted like sweet milk with no banana or coffee flavor - the topping also didn't taste good. Like it was salty crumbs but didn't go with the drink. Came here on Labor Day morning and it was understandably packed, waited about 30 min to order + get our drinks We both got the banana latte and unfortunately they were both ... a bit awful. There was no banana flavor or coffee flavor at all - it just tasted like sweet milk with a bare hint of caramel and the occasional hard bit of banana "dust". For $9, i was hoping for both good coffee flavor and banana flavor but we effectively paid for just cold sweet milk and neither of us drank more than a third. If you'd handed me the drink without telling me it was a latte I wouldn't have guessed there was coffee in it at all lol I know this shop is new and maybe working out some kinks but overall for the money/time spent we were both disappointed read more

Came here a little after 1pm on a Saturday. There was a line out the door when we arrived but the wait wasn't too bad. The shop is open and spacious with high ceilings. With the open windows and warm, sunny day, it made for a very lively afternoon. I ordered an Iced Latte with Vanilla Foam and oat milk, and my bf ordered an Iced Hojicha Latte. I really wanted to try their Banana Latte but they were out of it, which is understandable since it was a little later in the day. The coffee was good and the foam was decent. The hojicha was either completed unsweetened or very subtly sweet, so you can really taste the hojicha. It was nice but we would probably to ask for a little sweetener next time. Came here on a Monday morning to work for a bit! It was pretty lively inside but there was only a short line to order and get my drink. I got a hot matcha latte with almond milk, picture is misleading because the green color in the foam was really light but underneath it, the matcha was decently strong and a solid drink. Had trouble with the wifi on my laptop, but enjoyed the vibe here with lots of people working at the big community table inside and others just enjoying their morning. I've been following their TikTok journey of opening their coffee shop since the beginning of summer and was so stoked to check out the space! It was a busy Sunday morning but the line moved quickly! I loved how they had a staff member coming around and giving samples and getting to know their customers. They were so transparent and friendly! For pastries we ordered the infamous gluten free cookie (1/4) and the cardamom bun. The cookie was delicious and tasted even better when we dipped it in our drinks. The cardamom bun didn't have too strong of a flavor but the texture was quite nice. Onto the drinks. I wasn't exactly blown away by the drinks but they were very nicely made! We got their speciality drinks. One called suburnt, another with hojicha and their seasonal special peel latte. The sunburnt drink tasted amazing with the espresso shot doused with tonic water and a hint of citrus! The other 2 drinks were okay. I would say it was on the milkier side and I wasn't able to taste the true profile of the espresso or hojicha. I also got a cappuccino but it was also surprisingly not as strong as I thought it would be. I know they just opened so I hope to visit again soon to see if there are any improvements to their drinks! read more

Finally got a chance to try Double Black! I've been seeing the Salted Caramel Banana Latte all over my TikTok because I follow (and love) Violet Witchel! This latte is only offered for a limited time as a collaboration, so make sure to swing by and grab it! Heads up, this latte is $9. The rest of the beverages are less. Important thing: All of their beverage flavors are gluten free, and they have an entire gluten free pastry menu! Didn't try any this time, but I will be sure to when I come back. First time. Just picked up a cappuccino and it was good. The large cookie was sold out... think mini pizza size. Service was efficient. Casual atmosphere that truly reflects the current day and age of coffee shop vibes. Finding a seat can be a bit of a challenge as there are many individuals working and just hanging out. Nice retail clothing setup, but it seems to be forgotten amongst the coffee shop vibe. When visiting, keep in mind that parking can be a challenge. This spot overall is a great addition to Cole Valley. It has only been open for a few weeks, so they are still working out the kinks but they seem to genuinely welcome feedback and want to make it an amazing place. I'd say they are not quite there yet. Cold brew with vanilla cold foam - good but not very sweet, would recommend adding sweetener. Latte with black sesame - good and just sweet enough. There is always sediment in the bottom of a black sesame latte, so I'm used to that but this sediment was kind of chunky. A little too chunky. Regular latte - Good but a bit on the weak side. Also they seem to use A2 milk for everything (plant milks also available), which to me tastes like sad milk. It's great that they have this option for lactose intolerant peeps but I'd love an option for normal cow milk because it has a lot more flavor. They have a mix of regular pastries and gluten free. The GF mochi muffin was delightful. The space is huge but the seating is somewhat limited at half of the space is taken up by a store of kind of boring merchandise. It is supposed to be ski gear (I think?) but there are just a few neutral colored shirts, baseball hats and a bag. Not especially compelling. It seems to draw in a lot of tik tok people who want to document their whole experience, so if that is your kind of thing, have fun. It's probably good for the other businesses in the neighborhood to bring in some fresh energy. read more

Highly anticipated and excited to try this new coffee venture by Yardsale. Arrived during their soft opening a few minutes before 8 am. A very nice space, well-appointed with lots of light and various seating areas. We tried the drip coffee and the cold brew with vanilla bean foam. You could tell they are still refining their service, but overall it was a very pleasant experience. Only downside was the vanilla bean foam--an odd consistency that was somewhere between sugary milk and lightly frothed egg whites--definitely not the proper integrity of cold foam intended for cold brew. read more

Really disappointing experience at Double Black. We came in about 10 minutes before closing hoping to grab a drink, and the staff was still taking orders, so they took ours. They ended up completely forgetting one of our drinks. By the time we realized and let them know, they had already started closing down. Instead of simply making the drink we had ordered and they had forgotten, they told us they could only make us something without coffee because the espresso machine had already been shut down and "would take a while to close down" again. I completely understand not wanting to make new drinks after closing, but we had ordered before closing and the only reason we were still waiting was because the staff forgot our order. In that situation, I would have expected them to acknowledge the mistake and make the drink, even if it was a little inconvenient. Instead, the inconvenience of their mistake was put entirely on us. For a brand-new coffee shop, this was a pretty terrible first impression. Unfortunately, we won't be coming back. Wish Yelp allowed 0 stars. read more

I ordered a banana cold foam iced matcha latte w/ oat milk and a pump of vanilla (no ice cubes so the foam sunk to the bottom) and it was def worth the wait. The flavor is light and buttery, I liked that it's not bitter whatsoever. I also tried the hazelnut croissant and it was like I was eating food for the very first time it was so good! I loved that there were to hazelnuts on the top (before I got to them). I would recommend visiting and supporting a Bay Area shop. I had pretty high expectations for Double Black Coffee after seeing all the TikToks they posted leading up to their grand opening. We went in on a weekend expecting a line, and ended up waiting about 30+ minutes. As we got closer to the bar, we were greeted that they had run out of oat milk. I was honestly surprised, especially since it's one of only two alternative milk options and they've already been open for more than a month. Running out during regular opening hours was definitely disappointing. We ordered a latte with vanilla (which is an additional charge) and a hojicha latte. Both drinks were fine, but unfortunately nothing particularly special or memorable. The highlight for us was definitely the cookie. The full 9-inch cookie seemed a little too big and pricey, so we went with the quarter-size portion instead--and it was delicious. Tried to banana latte for almost $10, had maybe a suggestion of a banana flavor and was probably 90% milk. Also tried the matcha latte and was sooooooo disappointed to see that the matcha was premade rather than hand whisked :/ for almost $8 it would be great if they could spend 15 seconds to hand whisk the matcha. What a great addition to Cole Valley! I'm so happy Double Black was finally able to open after all the permitting process hurdles they chronicled on TikTok. I waited to go for about 2 weeks after they opened, hoping to avoid the long lines, but they are massively popular, even on a Friday afternoon. My latte was good, the staff was friendly, and best of all, this café was designed with plenty of seating. This is important to me--that they are offering the community a third place to meet up, relax with a book, or bring a laptop to get a little work done. Ambiance and vibes of the cafe were SO beautifully crafted. I would say, quality of the coffee was good but I took a star off for their cold foams. Sf has some steep competition with flavors, and the cold foams didn't have that punch of flavor. They should consider creating stronger banana, cardamom, etc. formulas read more
