I've been following their TikTok journey of opening their coffee shop since the beginning of summer and was so stoked to check out the space! It was a busy Sunday morning but the line moved quickly! I loved how they had a staff member coming around and giving samples and getting to know their customers. They were so transparent and friendly! For pastries we ordered the infamous gluten free cookie (1/4) and the cardamom bun. The cookie was delicious and tasted even better when we dipped it in our drinks. The cardamom bun didn't have too strong of a flavor but the texture was quite nice. Onto the drinks. I wasn't exactly blown away by the drinks but they were very nicely made! We got their speciality drinks. One called suburnt, another with hojicha and their seasonal special peel latte. The sunburnt drink tasted amazing with the espresso shot doused with tonic water and a hint of citrus! The other 2 drinks were okay. I would say it was on the milkier side and I wasn't able to taste the true profile of the espresso or hojicha. I also got a cappuccino but it was also surprisingly not as strong as I thought it would be. I know they just opened so I hope to visit again soon to see if there are any improvements to their drinks!

Finally got a chance to try Double Black! I've been seeing the Salted Caramel Banana Latte all over my TikTok because I follow (and love) Violet Witchel! This latte is only offered for a limited time as a collaboration, so make sure to swing by and grab it! Heads up, this latte is $9. The rest of the beverages are less. Important thing: All of their beverage flavors are gluten free, and they have an entire gluten free pastry menu! Didn't try any this time, but I will be sure to when I come back. I ordered my coffee to go, but I definitely wouldn't mind hanging back for a bit next time and reading my book. The natural sun light that peeks through the windows in the morning was heavenly! Till next time!!

One of my favorite cafes in the city!! I've met the founders when they did a pop up stint in New York, they are both from the Bay Area and down to Earth. I usually order any variation of the below- Cold Brew with Cardamom or Black Sesame cold foam Matcha Latte with Black Sesame cold foam While their cold foams are not that flavorful / strong, I still find their drink offerings unique compared to other cafes in the city. I can't wait to try their specialty banana latte!!

This place is amazing!! I'd been meaning to try it since I saw it open, and I'm so glad I finally did. The coffee was incredible, and I'll definitely be back to try the matcha. The GF cookie was also to die for! On top of that, the service was friendly and quick, even with an insanely long line. The vibes inside were amazing too. I'll absolutely be returning!

Soft opening menu. No charge for alternative milks!

$20 Chocolate Chip Cookie?! Sounds like the most SF thing after avocado toast... *Rolls eyes* And, I'm here for it! Just not today tho...since I was going to the dentist afterwards. After months of delay (red tape), Double Black is finally open. You can sip on coffee while browsing their Yardsale's outdoor equipment and apparel. Hours: Open everyday from 8 am - 5 pm. M E N U Coffee (Bird & Bear), espresso (Linea), tea, matcha, seasonal drinks, cookies, and pastries. No decaf available. Alternate milks are no charge. For drip coffee, the first refill is free. Dine in orders are served in ceramic cups and glasses. D R I N K S * Iced Latte w/ vanilla syrup ($7.25) Light and milky, didn't taste the vanilla. * Black Diamond: Hōjicha w/ black sesame, cold foam ($7) I appreciate that the hōji is hand-whisked to order but sadly, this was watery and flavorless. It had none of the nutty, roasty notes I anticipated. S E R V I C E Friendly and prompt. A M B I A N C E Bright and airy with high wood beam ceiling, exposed brick wall - modern mountain lodge meets living room vibes. Free WiFi. Restroom available. Overall, Double Black is a beautiful gathering space for those who live in the hood. Considering the highly competitive coffee and matcha/hōji scene in the city with a new shop opening up every week, the drinks I tried were underwhelming and watered down (2 stars). Plenty of room for improvement tho!

wow, this place is gorgeous! such a fun little spot in a cool neighborhood. all the staff members were friendly and welcoming. we got the Black Diamond, which is a hojicha with black sesame. we were honestly disappointed as it tasted just like watered down milk with no taste of hojicha or black sesame. i know this place is new and still working out working out the kinks, so i would come back in the future and try something else. bonus - lots of dogs walking in and out of the cafe, super cute!

Regular Milk Latte ($6.79, July 2026)

A light and airy cafe sharing space with a clothing store. The menu consists of drinks and pastries, including seasonal specials and gluten-free options. Prices are comparable to other places in San Francisco; for instance, a regular milk latte cost me $6.79 pre-tip. The shop is lively and popular, even on weekdays. The employees are professional and work hard to move the line fast. The indoor seating consists of a communal table and seats for solo, duo or even up to three to sit, which encourages conversation. There are paid parking meters on Cole Street and two-hour residential parking in the perimeter. Overall, a cute new addition to Cole Valley.

Great airy space in the heart of Cole valley. I got a cold brew w black sesame cold foam; very mild in acidity and not an overwhelming flavor from the black sesame. The giant cookie also looked soooo good, would definitely try next time and share w at least 5 other friends.

Highly anticipated and excited to try this new coffee venture by Yardsale. Arrived during their soft opening a few minutes before 8 am. A very nice space, well-appointed with lots of light and various seating areas. We tried the drip coffee and the cold brew with vanilla bean foam. You could tell they are still refining their service, but overall it was a very pleasant experience. Only downside was the vanilla bean foam--an odd consistency that was somewhere between sugary milk and lightly frothed egg whites--definitely not the proper integrity of cold foam intended for cold brew.

I ordered a banana cold foam iced matcha latte w/ oat milk and a pump of vanilla (no ice cubes so the foam sunk to the bottom) and it was def worth the wait. The flavor is light and buttery, I liked that it's not bitter whatsoever. I also tried the hazelnut croissant and it was like I was eating food for the very first time it was so good! I loved that there were to hazelnuts on the top (before I got to them). I would recommend visiting and supporting a Bay Area shop. I hope they become a longstanding cafe for the Cole valley / haight area.

the newest cafe in Cole valley (wise choice to open up there) and I absolutely adore it and the play on skiing! met the owner too and told us about his experience on shark tank and how their brand started! so cool and he is so friendly! 10/10 recommend. matcha latte itself was one of the better ones but on the sweeter end! yummy pastries

I'm always hunting for spots like this because I have a weakness for those over-the-top, Instagram-worthy desserts that look like diabetes in a dish. Like most places in this genre, A Buttercup is small, modern, and minimalist with limited seating. If you plan to go, aim for off-hours unless you enjoy waiting in line for sugar. The decor is cute and trendy, perfect for photos if that's part of your dessert ritual. As they say, "you eat with your eyes first," and when it comes to presentation, this place definitely gets an A+. The desserts look stunning and set high expectations. Unfortunately, that's where things started to crumble. It's like going to see your favorite artist live. You've watched the videos, memorized the songs, and paid for the experience. But instead of the electric performance you imagined, you get someone lip-syncing and barely connecting with the crowd. That was this place in dessert form. We ordered the Mango Bingsoo on our first visit, and when it arrived, we were surprised by how small the portion was. The guy next to us even looked over and said, "Whatever that is, I'm getting that next time." He shouldn't have. The Bingsoo looked great but was bland, and the "snow" was more chunky ice than soft shave. The Thai Tea Roti was also not what I expected. It came with Thai tea ice cream and sauce alongside a roti that was fried to a crunch. Interesting idea, just not the best execution. The sauce and ice cream needed a stronger Thai tea flavor to balance the crispy roti, and the flavors never quite came together. Overall, A Buttercup nails the aesthetics but misses the flavor. If you're here for the photos, you'll be happy. If you're here for the taste, you'll leave with a full camera roll and an unsatisfied sweet tooth.

Service was nice and prompt. We ordered one of their new items. The salted duck egg bingsoo, as well as a Thai tea lava cake. The Thai tea lava cake was rich and cocoa-y, pairing so well with the Thai tea ice cream. The star of the show, however, was definitely the shaved ice. The portion size was nice and large, and the mochi on top was so soft and chewy. The salted duck egg topping tasted like the filling in the lava egg yolk buns from dim sum, so earthy and rich and sweet with a perfect umami hit. It paired perfectly with the milky, not too sweet shaved ice. I love salted duck yolk everything and this is yet another item to add to that list! Naya is a bit pricy but so worth it for that bingsoo.

Overall, the desserts were solid, but I did feel they were a little pricey for the portion size, especially the bingsoo. I'd come back if I was craving dessert late at night, but I'd probably avoid the busiest hours.

We originally went to the location near Union Square, thinking we'd be able to grab pastries and hot chocolate, only to realize it's primarily a retail shop with chocolate bars and merchandise. We ended up making our way to the Valencia Street location, and I'm so glad we did. We learned that it used to be the original factory before they outgrew the space. Production has since moved a few blocks away, and now this location offers classes, a café, and plenty of chocolate treats. While we were there, a chocolate-making class was in session, and it was fun to watch part of it. The instructor even came over to chat with us and answer a few questions, which was such a nice personal touch. We ordered the brownie bite flight along with a hot chocolate, and both were fantastic. The brownie flight was rich, flavorful, and a fun way to sample different chocolates. The hot chocolate came with a tiny cookie that was absolutely delicious. At first, we were a little disappointed because we thought our hot chocolate was supposed to come with a marshmallow and didn't see one. When we mentioned it, the instructor smiled and showed us a toppings station we had completely missed. There were homemade marshmallows, flavored sugar cubes, and other little extras you could add yourself. He even encouraged us to take a few extra marshmallows, and they were some of the best I've ever had. One thing to know before you go is that Dandelion Chocolate focuses on high-quality chocolate that isn't overly sweet. If you're expecting the sugary milk chocolate flavor of a candy bar, this is a different experience. The chocolate has a richer, more complex flavor, and we really enjoyed trying something different. Between the friendly staff, delicious treats, and unique experience, I'd definitely recommend adding it to your itinerary--just make sure you head to the café location if you're looking for food and drinks!

The japanese milk coffee was less bitter/strong compared to typical coffee ice cream, probably hence the milk. I think I would've enjoyed a stronger aroma of coffee flavor more, but it was still yum! The genmaicha is like a green tea with toasted rice, so it had a nutty flavor to it. I really don't think you're going to go wrong with any flavor because they all tasted so amazing to me.
